Everything the College Football Playoff committee said about Ohio State after latest rankings

What do you think about what the CFP committee said this time around after the latest rankings? #GoBucks

Well, here we are, less than a week removed from Ohio State football’s third-straight loss to Michigan. Being that it’s Tuesday late in the season with just the conference championship games to go, it also means we have to suck it up and see how far the Buckeyes fell in the latest College Football Playoff rankings.

There’s still one set of rankings to go after this weekend, but it doesn’t look good for the Buckeyes, who fell to No. 6, behind another one-loss team, Oregon.

As always, the CFP committee seems to prioritize what it wants to use as the rationale for rankings when they simply believe they should be based on the eye test. However, at least it faces the music after each rankings reveal to discuss what into the decisions to place teams in the order that they appear.

That’s exactly what happened on the conference call following the latest rankings, and since we are are part of all that fun, we like to bring to you what Executive Director Bill Hancock and committee chair Boo Corrigan had to say about the process of ranking teams.

Here is everything they said about Ohio State following the fifth set of rankings that have set the baseline for what we’ll see after all the dust has settled this weekend.

We got a look at the third release of the College Football Playoff Rankings of the 2023 season, and this time Ohio State tumbled a spot from the top perch down to No. 2 behind the Georgia Bulldogs.

It was thought to be trending that way with almost everyone in the media pointing towards UGA’s win over two top ten type opponents the last two weeks, and that’s exactly what happened. Behind the Buckeyes in the second slot was Michigan (3), followed by Florida State (4), Washington (5), Oregon (6), Texas (7), Alabama (8), Missouri (9), and Louisville (10) rounding out the top ten.

One of the great things (we think) about these rankings is that the committee is held accountable with a press teleconference afterwards to discuss all the conversations and logic that went into ranking teams where we saw. In other words, they do ask how the sausage was made, and we get to see the ugly guts.

We’re a part of those conversations and like to bring you everything Executive Director Bill Hancock and Committee Chair Boo Corrigan say about Ohio State when questioned.

Here’s how the conversation about the Buckeyes went after Week 11 of the 2023 college football season from the committee.

We all got a look at the second release of the College Football Playoff rankings on Tuesday, and YOUR Ohio State Buckeyes are still No. 1 in the eyes of the folks that determine these sort of things.

Not everyone agrees, of course. There are five undefeated Power Five teams that all have a argument for being int that top spot (Ohio State, Georgia, Michigan, Florida State, and Washington), and several one-loss teams that look to be playing at a high level as well (Alabama and Oregon). But like a lot of things these days, everyone has an opinion.

The committee has a hard job, but at least the chair of the committee, Boo Corrigan, and the Executive Director, Bill Hancock, meet with the media after the rankings are released on a conference all to discuss what went into making the sausage and to add a layer of transparency.

We are a part of those, and we bring you all of the comments that the duo has about Ohio State. Here’s the discussion that occurred on that call Tuesday night that have a scarlet and gray hue.

Everything the College Football Playoff committee said after the second 2022 CFP rankings release

Find out everything the CFP committee said about the second release of the 2022 College Football Playoff rankings Tuesday night.

We’re in the part of the college football season where we get to debate rankings that really mean something. Of course, we’re talking about the College Football Playoff rankings that don’t come out until we’re more than halfway through the season.

We got a peek at the first release last Tuesday for a baseline to begin all of our arguments and forecasts, and now, we know what the second installment of the CFP rankings is thanks to the reveal on ESPN.

One of the things that the CFP committee has done since its inception is to be available to provide commentary and answer questions on how the ranking process went and what went into it. It was the same after Week 2 of the rankings when College Football Playoff Selection Committee chair, Boo Corrigan, made himself available on a call for the media.

In case you missed any of it, here’s everything Coorigan said on Tuesday night.

The list of teams affected by CFP’s expansion decision

These teams will be impacted most by no CFP expansion.

On Friday, the College Football Playoff committee announced there would be no expansion to the playoff field. After months of discussions surrounding a field that could expand to eight or even 12 teams, nothing came of it.

“The Board of Managers has accepted a recommendation from the Management Committee to continue the current four-team playoff for the next four years, as called for in the CFP’s original 12-year plan. At the same time, the Board expects the Management Committee to continue its discussions of a new format that would go into effect for the 2026-27 season,” the report stated.

“Even though the outcome did not lead to a recommendation for an early expansion before the end of the current 12-year contract, the discussions have been helpful and informative. I am sure they will serve as a useful guide for the Board of Managers and for the Management Committee as we determine what the Playoff will look like beginning in the 2026-2027 season.”

With the big question of who would benefit most from the expansion, we are left wanting more teams for a true playoff. At this point, it feels more like a College Football Invitational. There are arguments to be made for and against having more teams involved.

The negative impact of Friday’s decision has to do with the teams that have yet to make it to the annual tournament. The lower tier teams at the Power Five level. Not to mention the Group of Five, although Cincinnati finally broke through in 2021.

Here are the top teams that will be impacted most by this decision.

National analyst calls out ‘incompetent’ CFP committee for Clemson being unranked

A national analyst took to social media and called out the College Football Playoff selection committee after its latest rankings were unveiled Tuesday night.

CBS Sports college football analyst Danny Kanell took exception to Clemson (7-3, 5-2 ACC) being unranked, with Mississippi State (6-4, 4-3 SEC) being ranked No. 25.

Kanell pointed out that one of the Bulldogs’ losses came at the hands of what is now a 5-5 Memphis team back on Sept. 18, while the Tigers’ three losses came to Georgia, Pittsburgh and NC State — teams that are currently ranked No. 1, No. 18 and No. 20 in the CFP rankings, respectively.

“This committee and this process proves itself over and over to be the absolute worst way to determine a champ. #incompetent,” Kanell wrote in a post on Twitter.

Clemson returns to action Saturday at Death Valley against Wake Forest (9-1, 6-0 ACC), which is now ranked No. 10 in the CFP rankings.

Everything the CFP Committee said after the third release of the College Football Playoff Rankings

CFP Committee Chair Gary Barta tried his best to speak to why the CFP Rankings look as they do. Here’s everything he said.

Here we go again. We got our third look at the CFP Rankings Tuesday evening and again got to witness College Football Playoff Selection Committee Chair Gary Barta do a song and dance with some of the questionable decisions the group made.

After appearing on ESPN and trying to justify ranking some teams with very similar resumes ahead of another because of the head-to-head and not others, he then made himself available as the spokesperson for the Committee. We don’t really know if he felt the same way as some of his colleagues, but he is always tasked with speaking from the group.

And … in case you missed anything he said, we bring it all to you here, so grab a beverage and some popcorn, and let’s go. Here’s everything Barta as the mouthpiece of the CFP Committee said during his media appearance on Tuesday night.
