Georgia’s 2023 title odds dropped sharply as preseason bettors hammered Alabama

Bettors are fading the Bulldogs.

Georgia winning the 2022 National Championship did little to inspire confidence in bettors that the Bulldogs could repeat in 2023. Likewise, it’s not stopping the money from rolling in on the runners-up.

Not only have bets on Alabama to win next season’s national championship far exceeded bets on Georgia, but other schools are also seeing more action at multiple sportsbooks. In fact, Georgia doesn’t rank in the top 10 of bets received at Tipico. Ohio State, USC, Florida and Clemson have all received more action.

In the immediate aftermath of this year’s title game, Georgia and Alabama opened in a tie for the best odds to win the 2023 title at +200. Ohio State was a distant third at +800. As of Friday, Alabama’s odds stand alone as the favorite at +180, followed by Ohio State at +320, then Georgia, which moved up to +330.

The Bulldogs are getting a little more respect from bettors at Caesars, but that’s relative. Since being tied with Alabama as +325 co-favorites in January, Georgia has fallen to +400 and third-shortest behind Alabama and Ohio State.

In part spurred by a $100,000 bet on June 30, the Tide’s odds dropped to +180 at Caesars and Ohio State is second-shortest at +375. In addition to the Buckeyes, Texas A&M, LSU and USC have also been ticketed more than Georgia. And the Aggies join Alabama and Ohio State in having more money wagered.

Georgia has moved to third-shortest at most other sportsbooks too, though they remain in a tie for second at BetMGM with +350 odds.

The college football win totals are starting to be released – at least the early versions. Where are the values for each team? Which ones appear to be off?

Caesars Sportsbook and BetMGM have released every college football team’s win total, line, and odds to win the conference.

It seems like five years ago, but back in early March we put together our annual piece trying to predict what the early lines would be.

One key note, below are NOT our predictions for each team. Those will come this summer when we make a call. These are the projections of where we thought the win total lines were going to be set, followed by the Caesars line, and followed by the BetMGM conference championship odds.

Also, this is all based on the regular season only – bowl games and conference championships don’t count.

College Football Future Win Total Projections For All 130 Teams: Spring Version

We’re still months away from the start of the college football season, but where should Vegas set the early win projections for every team?

Spring football is just getting going, the transfer portal is still a factor, and we’re still several months away from the start of the college football season, but where should Vegas be setting the early win projections for every team?

Contact/Follow @ColFootballNews & @PeteFiutak

The line doesn’t lie.

With a whole lot of factors still to be figured out – how the depth charts will shake out, which new players will rise up, where are the key injuries, etc. – where should the win total bar be set for every college football team?

The idea is to get it as close to the pin as possible, set the line for the market, and then let the investment public make the call.

Returning talent, schedules, when the big games come, here’s where the oddsmakers should be setting the win total lines. Once they’re released for real, then it’s about trying to find where the discrepancies are and where the value might be.

One note, the win total line projections are based on the regular season only – bowl games and conference championships don’t count.

As we do this, two things to note.

1) The 3 Key Games are NOT the biggest games on each team’s schedule – these are the 50/50 games on the slate that could go either way. Of course giant rivalry battles are the ones that truly matter, but for the most part, the Key Games are going to be the ones everyone has to figure out to get the right totals.

2) These are NOT our predictions for each team. Those will come this summer when we make a call. These are the projections of where we think the win total lines are going to be set.

College Football Futures: National Championship Best Bets

Previewing the College Football Playoff futures including National Championship best bets.

The College Football Playoff kicks off Dec. 28 with the semifinals. Top-ranked LSU Tigers (13-0) faces the No. 4 Oklahoma Sooners (12-1) in the Peach Bowl at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, and the second-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes (13-0) will battle the No. 3 Clemson Tigers (13-0) in the Fiesta Bowl at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Ariz.

Below is my best bet and rationale for who will be crowned the national champion on Jan. 13.

CLEMSON +200

It’s amazing how relatively under-the-radar defending champion Clemson has flown in 2019. A bonafide dynasty, the Tigers have played in four of the five College Football Playoffs, winning two titles in their three Championship Game appearances, including last year’s 28-point blistering of the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence. (Photo Credit: Jamie Rhodes – USA TODAY Sports)

Tigers quarterback Trevor Lawrence received Burrow-esque hype following Clemson’s 2018 title run, but has been largely missing from the national conversation because of a shaky start to 2019 –  he threw eight interceptions in his first seven games. However, he finished strong with 20 passing touchdowns and NO interceptions and ended up with 41 total touchdowns. While LSU’s Joe Burrow is getting all the buzz heading into the CFP, make no mistake, Lawrence should be the No. 1 pick whenever he enters the NFL Draft, presumably in 2020.

Led by coach Dabo Swinney and defensive wizard Brett Venables, Clemson has the best coaching staff in the Playoff. No other coach in the CFP has a national championship appearance or title. The Tigers have been here before and the moment will not be too big for them. Despite all the defensive players drafted back in April, Clemson’s defense is still stout, allowing the least passing yards per game (138.5) in the country, and ranking ninth in rushing yards allowed (106.2 YPG).

Another random tidbit that I cannot explain but thought was worth mentioning: The No. 1 seed in the CFP has never won the national title. I don’t know if that’s because the top team is really feeling themselves during the extended break, grows complacent or the opening-round matchup against the No. 4 team isn’t difficult enough to get them ready for the title game. Whatever the case is, Clemson entering the CFP as the 3-seed only makes me feel better about my CLEMSON +200 ticket.

New to sports betting? Every $10 wagered on Clemson to win the National Championship would profit $20 if the Tigers prevail.
