Notre Dame-No. 16 Syracuse: Will Irish pull minor upset?

Who wins on Saturday at Syracuse?

Notre Dame travels to No. 16 Syracuse in a game that has gotten a lot more compelling than it appeared a few short months ago.  Notre Dame entered the year ranked in the top five and although we know that was a mistake by voters now, this is a team that certainly possesses top-25 talent although they haven’t met it with any consistency.

Syracuse on the other hand entered the year trying to save Dino Babers job as his seat appeared as warm as any in the nation.  All the Orange have done is start the season 6-0 before giving up a fourth-quarter lead last week at No. 5 Clemson.

What will happen this Saturday as Notre Dame heads to upstate New York for just their second trip to Syracuse’s dome since it opened in 1980?

Here is what the Fighting Irish Wire staff sees happening.

College Wire regional editor Patrick Conn makes his Week 1 predictions

Regional editor Patrick Conn breaks down his selections this week, who has the edge in the Notre Dame-Ohio State showdown?

While some teams kicked off the season in week 0, week 1 is the official starting point for the rest of the college football landscape. There are some key matchups this week that will set the tone for the 2022 campaign.

The trio of big matchups will begin on Saturday when the Oregon Ducks and Georgia Bulldogs meet in Atlanta at 3:30 p.m. ET. The next features the Utah Utes heading into the Swamp to meet the Florida Gators at 7:00 p.m. ET. The final matchup features two top-five ranked teams.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish head into Columbus to take on the Ohio State Buckeyes. Former Buckeyes linebacker [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] will lead the Irish into this showdown in hostile territory.

College football expert picks and predictions for conference championship week

Our writers pick all of the Power Five and important conference championship games for this weekend.

Every year (and every week of the CFB season) we have a little friendly competition among our writers for world domination when it comes to picking Big Ten and some of the bigger college football games.

We’ll bring you our expert picks and predictions on all the league games against the spread, and straight-up throughout the season. Also, as an added bonus you didn’t know you even craved, we’ll throw in six of the top games across the college football slate for the week. This week though, we’re taking a look at all of the Power Five conference championships and what we might see from Cincinnati in the AAC Championship game.

So let’s get rolling on our last picks before all the bowl games are decided. As a reminder, if there’s an asterisk next to the pick, that means the team will win, but not cover.

EXAMPLE:
– If you think Ohio State will win minus -3.5 over an opponent: OSU
– If you think Ohio State will win outright: OSU
– If you think Ohio State will win, but NOT cover: OSU*

Here are our expert picks for conference championship week, but first, our results after Week 13.

ESPN FPI Projects Notre Dame-Virginia Tech

What gives you the most hope for Notre Dame’s chances on Saturday night?

I’ve long discussed my love-hate relationship with ESPN’s Football Power Index here and that continues yet another week.  In short, I love there being more information and samples that help project what may happen, but hate that development, such a huge part of college football, doesn’t get represented.

With that in mind I present to you the latest Notre Dame FPI game projection as we’re a day away from the Irish and Hokies doing battle at Virginia Tech.

ESPN FPI currently gives Notre Dame a 53.1% chance to win at Virginia Tech.

If you’re looking for hope Notre Dame fans, there a little bit more is as the formula likes the Irish by a hair more than a coin-flip.

If you’re stuck in believing the Irish are doomed, you may be happy to know ESPN’s FPI favored Wisconsin over the Domers two weeks ago and Notre Dame last week against Cincinnati.

Big Ten and big game college football expert picks, odds for Championship Week

It’s Championship Week and our experts pick against the spread and straight-up for all Big Ten and conference championship games.

Off to so-called “Championship Week” in the world of Big Ten football, and it looks like everything is on for the Big Ten Championship Game between Ohio State and Northwestern. Some of the other games were not so lucky, hitting the chopping block because of coronavirus outbreaks.

Despite it all, we’ll continue to keep grind along to a finish here in hopes that safety rules the day. There are in fact, three more games that won’t happen in the conference because of COVID-19 outbreaks and so the slate is a little thin in the Big Ten.

There are other conferences playing championship games though, so we have those to look forward to as well.

As we do each week during Big Ten football season, we’re bringing you our expert picks and predictions on all the league games against the spread, and straight-up. Also, as an added bonus you didn’t know you even craved, we’ll throw in six of the top games across the slate of all the college football games for the week. We’re the judge and jury on that one.

As a reminder, if there’s an asterisk next to the pick, that means the team will win, but not cover. We get our odds from BetMGM. In the event of a tie, George Washington settles it via the old coin-flip.

INSTRUCTIONS: Make your pick against the spread. For example …
– If you think Ohio State will win -3.5 over Michigan: OSU
– If you think Ohio State will win outright: OSU
– If you think Ohio State will win, but NOT cover: OSU*

Here are our expert picks for Week 7, but first our results after six weeks of play.

RESULTS SO FAR

@PhilHarrisonBW: 55-26 SU, 38-43 ATS
@MarkRussell1975: 53-28 SU, 41-40 ATS
@DanRuppert: 55-26 SU, 46-35 ATS

Big Ten and big game college football expert picks, odds for conference Week 7

It’s time for our Big Ten and big game college football predictions and odds for conference Week 7. Who is on upset alert?

Off to Week 7 in the world of Big Ten football, and it looks like Ohio State is back at it after pausing because of a mild coronavirus outbreak.

As we get further along in these games, it’s becoming more and more likely that a game gets canceled because of too many coronavirus positive tests, but we’ll continue to keep grinding along in hopes that safety rules the day. There are in fact, two more games that won’t happen in the conference because of COVID-19 outbreaks at Minnesota and Michigan.

It’s called our Pick Six and becoming increasingly hard to find meaningful games when a handful are canceled every week.

As a reminder, if there’s an asterisk next to the pick, that means the team will win, but not cover. We get our odds from BetMGM. In the event of a tie, George Washington settles it via the old coin-flip.

OK. It’s time for Week 4 in the Big Ten, one in which the No. 3 team in the country will be sitting home because of Coronavirus concerns with an outbreak within the Maryland football program. Yes, Ohio State now has a bye-week for the game against Indiana the following weekend.
