How crazy is it to try predicting a college football game months in advance when 1) there wasn’t any spring ball, 2) there aren’t any real depth charts to go off of, 3) no one has ANY clue how to get sports going again, and 4) we don’t even know what the 2020 season is going to be?

Just crazy enough to potentially get some fantastic values on the early lines.

You can bet now at BetMGM on a whole lot of college football games – including going really insane looking at lines in November – with the possibility of hitting something big.

We’ll be diving in a whole lot deeper when we do this for real just before the season – crossing fingers that there is one. But for now …

Michigan vs Washington Game Preview: Preseason Version

Why Michigan Will Win

The running attack won’t go off, but it should be effective enough to at least control the game.

Michigan might have lost some key guys to the next level, but the ground game that started to blast away over the second half of last season should be able to keep it all going despite the talent on the UW defensive line.

At the very least, even if the numbers aren’t massive – the Huskies should be able to keep the Wolverines from going off on the ground – there should be just enough pop to ease in new starting quarterback Dylan McCaffrey – assuming he beats out Joe Milton.

Zach Charbonnet just needs to come up with positive yards on first downs, and he should be able to do that.

Washington has to break in a new starting quarterback, too, but Jacob Sirmon  gets to deal with a reloaded Wolverine defense gets back just enough to be terrific right away.

However …

Why Washington Will Win

Michigan loses a whole lot of key parts to last year’s puzzle.

The running game will be good, but now it has to go on without Cesar Ruiz, Jon Runyan, Ben Bredeson, and Michael Onwenu on the line. This foursome helped the offense turn things around a bit with a big attitude over a long stretch.

It’s Michigan. The pass rush will be fine, but Michael Danna, Josh Uche, and Khaleke Hudson are dong from the front seven.

For Washington’s side, there’s a strong group returning on defense, especially for a young secondary with a whole lot of talent. Overall, it’s going to be a young team returning, but …

What’s Going To Happen

Jimmy Lake will get his first win as the new Washington head coach thanks to a jacked up D that’s going to spend most of the day in the Michigan backfield.

The Washington offense might sputter a bit too often with a rebuilding offensive line and with Sirmon working with a whole lot of new parts to the receiving corps, but the home atmosphere and several big stops by the Dawg secondary will be enough to help pull this off.

North Carolina vs UCF Game Preview: Preseason Version

Why North Carolina Will Win

The big story around North Carolina football is how Mack Brown is crushing and killing everything in his path on the recruiting trail. But for now – at least the start of the season – he’ll have to make due with what should be one of the most talented and strongest Tar Heel team in years.

QB Sam Howell leads a fantastic-looking passing game with a whole bunch of weapons to play around with. The line that went through a youth movement last season gets back four starters, and the defense gets back eight starters along with the depth that’s been missing for a bit.

This is going to be an explosive, dangerous team that should be able to keep up the pace with the high-powered UCF offense, but …

Why UCF Will Win

Gabriel Davis might be off being a Buffalo Bill, but all the other main men for the passing game are back. Spreading the ball around won’t be a problem, the rushing tandem of Otis Anderson and Bentavious Thomas. should be excellent, and Dillon Gabriel appears to be the next great UCF passer.

The defense that took a bit of a step back last season is going to be a killer. 11 of the top 12 tacklers are expected back, there’s tremendous speed across the front seven, and the pass rush should be in place to bother Howell all game long.

And …

What’s Going To Happen

It’s at UCF. The program tends to enjoy making big statements in home games when everyone is watching.

North Carolina has a strong team coming back, but UCF will keep the pressure on offensively with explosive big plays, and the defense will come away with three key takeaways to overcome a massive day from the Tar Heel O.

Wisconsin vs Indiana Game Preview: Preseason Version

Why Indiana Will Win

It’s a dangerous Indiana team with the type of passing game that should test the Badger secondary, but will balance out the attack with RB Stevie Scott.

On the other side of the ball, against a Wisconsin team with a rebuilding offensive line that loses three starters – all in the interior – and has to deal with a Hoosier defensive front that should be the best yet in the Tom Allen era.

[lawrence-related id=511933]

Experience across the board isn’t a problem, there’s enough talent among the starting 22 to be ready right away, and QB Michael Penix will be back and healthy.

Everything is in place for a breakout moment for the program on a Friday night, but …

Why Wisconsin Will Win

The Badgers are loaded again.

Losing Jonathan Taylor is hardly a plus, and C Tyler Biadasz and the interior of the line really will be an early concern. Throw in the loss of top WR Quintez Cephus, and it might take a little bit to get everything going.

But everything else is in place.

The defense is a killer with everyone back in the secondary, the line big and deep, and with just enough talent back at linebacker to make up for the loss of Zack Baun and Chris Orr.

What’s Going To Happen

Watch out. Indiana has enough in all phases to come up with a sharp, good performance to throw a major scare into the defending Big Ten West champ. But the Badger running game will do what the Badger running game does and take over as the game goes on.

Penix will be a problem, but the Wisconsin secondary will come up with just enough stops in the second half to survive a whale of a Big Ten opener.

Oklahoma State vs Oregon State Game Preview: Preseason Version

Why Oklahoma State Will Win

There isn’t another team in the Big 12 that returns more loaded with offensive weapons.

The offensive line gets enough parts back to make all of the stars shine. QB Spencer Sanders returns, Tylan Wallace and five of the top six receivers are expected back, and then there’s that 2,000-yard rusher to work around. Chuba Hubbard tore off 221 yards and three touchdowns in last year’s 52-36 win over the Beavers.

On the flip side, Oregon State lost leading receiver Isaiah Hodgins to the Buffalo Bills, No. 2 receiver Noah Togiai has to be replaced at tight end, and QB Jake Luton is off trying to push out Gardner Minshew at Jacksonville.

It’s going to be a shootout, and the home team is much better equipped. However …

Why Oregon State Will Win

There’s a whole lot to like about the Oregon State defense.

All-around playmaking linebacker Hamlicar Rashed it back along with seven of the team’s top eight tacklers. Almost all of the sacks from last year return, and in all, eight starters are expected back on a defense that should be one of the most improved in the Pac-12.

It’s not like the Beavers don’t have any offensive parts to keep up the pace.

Jermar Jefferson should have a huge rushing season behind a solid line, the receiving corps is good enough to overcome the loss of of Hodgins and Togiai, and former Nebraska Cornhusker Tristan Gebbia – if he wins the job – will add a dual-threat element missing from the attack last year.

What’s Going To Happen

Oklahoma State was able to roll last season, but Oregon State is going to be a whole lot stronger.

Jonathan Smith has been able to build up the Beaver talent level on both sides, and the athleticism is there to keep pace in what should be an offensive show.

Oklahoma State, though, will be too good.

The defense will be just okay, but the explosion from this offense will show up when it needs to put the game away.

Clemson vs Georgia Tech Game Preview: Preseason Version

Why Clemson Will Win

So you know all those Clemson Tigers who got picked over NFL Draft weekend? What, there didn’t seem like there were that many from a national championship-caliber program? That’s because a whole lot of them came back.

Four of the top five tacklers might be gone, but the defensive line returns most of the parts, enough of the top receivers are back, and the backfield tandem of QB Trevor Lawrence and RB Travis Etienne is still hanging around.

Georgia Tech might be returning enough experience to be better, but it still has to figure out how to move the ball. It’s not like the team suddenly figured it out late last season. Stop the run, stop the Yellow Jackets.

Why Georgia Tech Will Win

There’s a whole lot returning.

It might still be a little while longer to make the full transition from the Paul Johnson option attack days to what head man Geoff Collins is trying to do, but at least there’s experience.

A few Power Five-sized offensive linemen are transferring in, 20 of the top 21 tacklers from last year are expected to be back, QB James Graham returns along with most of the top rushers, and the top three pass catchers are there.

But …

What’s Going To Happen

Is all the Georgia Tech experience enough to actually beat the big dog in the season opener? No, but it might be just enough to keep it relatively close …

For a while.

Clemson is pretty good at the whole make-a-statement thing. Including last year’s win over Georgia Tech, it has won its last three openers by a combined score of 156 to 24.

The Tigers pull away big after a competitive first quarter.

Arizona vs Hawaii Game Preview: Preseason Version

Why Hawaii Will Win

Seriously … how much better do you think the Arizona defense is going to be with no offseason to get better after finishing dead last in the Pac-12 in total defense, scoring defense, and sacks?

Eight starters are expected to return, but there’s still a whole lot of work to do against a Hawaii team that’s still going to wing it all around the yard under new head coach Todd Graham.

The Rainbow Warriors might have lost QB Cole McDonald early to the NFL’s Tennessee Titans, but Chevan Cordeiro is back along with seven other starters. The machine doesn’t stop.

Why Arizona Will Win

Seriously … how much better do you think the Hawaii defense is going to be with no offseason to get better after finishing dead last in the Mountain West in tackles for loss and after giving up 431 yards and 32 points per game?

Five starters have to be replaced on the Rainbow Warrior D, and despite the loss of QB Khalil Tate and RB JJ Taylor, the Arizona offense should be solid from the start with a young line potentially emerging fast and a decent group of receivers for QB Grant Gunnell to play around with.

What’s Going To Happen

It was one of the best games of last season, and it happened right out of the gate.

Hawaii couldn’t stop giving the ball away, Khalil Tate went off late, and the two come up with a wild and crazy firefight that came down to the final few inches. The Rainbow Warriors held on for a 45-38 win, and now the script will be flipped.

It’ll be another offensive show, it’ll be another slop-fest full of mistakes, and it won’t be anything too pretty except for the up-and-down action. Arizona has lost three of its last four openers, but Kevin Sumlin gets a home win to kick things off.

Notre Dame vs Navy Game Preview: Preseason Version

Why Navy Will Win

Considering the lack of preparation this offseason on all sides, Navy being able to do what it does with its precision and timing might not be that much of a problem. In the Week 0 game, it should be able to grind down the clock enough to keep the score low, control drives, and keep the tempo of the game on its side.

Eight starters are back on a defense that got gouged in last year’s 52-20 loss, but the Irish have a whole slew of parts they have to replace. Six Notre Dame players were selected in the NFL Draft, and that doesn’t count RB Tony Jones, DE Jamir Jones, WR Chris Finke and S Jalen Elliott. However …

Why Notre Dame Will Win

The Irish offensive line should be able to hammer down the Navy defensive front.

Yeah, Notre Dame just lost a ton of talent, but OT Liam Eichenberg and four starters are expected back on an offensive line that might be a killer. The Navy defensive front loses its 300-pounders from last year and – like normal – has a slew of 250-pounders trying to hold up.

The Irish only ran for 105 yards and were held to just over three yards per carry – and won by 32. Ian Book might not throw for five touchdowns again, but the offense should be able to keep it simple, and …

What’s Going To Happen

The experience of the Notre Dame linebacking corps should be able to take over early on.

How do you stop the option? Discipline, and the Irish have the linebackers who can make up for the losses on the defensive front.

This will be a strong Navy team again, but the difference will be on the offensive fronts. The Midshipmen have to replace three starters – and QB Malcolm Perry – and the Irish will have the bulk to to take over early on.
