Clemson vs Georgia Tech Game Preview

Why Georgia Tech Will Win

The Yellow Jackets gave the Tigers a rough time last year.

They lost 14-8, but the defense was strong, and there were chances to pull off the shocker.

Even with Jahmyr Gibbs off to Alabama, the running backs are good enough to at least give it a shot against the amazing Clemson defensive front. If they can do anything, veteran QB Jeff Sims might be able to do just enough to keep the chains moving.

There won’t be a whole lot of big things happening against the Tiger D, and it’s up to the Tiger O to prove it can do a whole lot more after a rocky season.

The Yellow Jackets have a good enough linebacking corps to hold up against the Clemson ground game, and there’s still a big Prove It factor for QB DJ Uiagalelei and a passing attack that couldn’t move the chains.

The Tiger offense has to start working much, much better, or else …

Week 1 CFN College Football Expert Picks

Why Clemson Will Win

It probably won’t matter. The Clemson defense will clean up any messes the other side makes.

It’s not hyperbole to suggest that the Tiger D – at least the line – will be the best in America after finishing eighth overall. It produced even with a slew of injuries up front.

Georgia Tech doesn’t have a high-powered passing game – even though Sims is just that good – and it’s going to be a grind to generate any points.

Clemson doesn’t have to go off for 45 to win this. As long as DJ Uiagalelei is hitting his third down throws and not turning it over, the other side will take care of the rest.

However …

Week 1 Schedule, Predictions, Game Previews, Saturday

What’s Going To Happen

The Clemson passing game is going to show up.

You don’t think this bunch is a tad bit peeved after hearing for seven months about how awful things were through the air against everyone but UConn?

It might not be anything amazing quite yet, but there will be plenty of points – along with real, live downfield completions.

The ground attack will be fine, the defensive front won’t allow a thing, and the team will build on the strong end to 2021 with a dominant performance.

All of the CFN Fearless Predictions

Clemson (1-1) vs Georgia Tech (1-1) Game Preview

Why Georgia Tech Will Win

Does Georgia Tech really have a passing game now?

It’s not the running team of the Paul Johnson days as it tries to balance things out a bit, but it’s still going to try to get things done on the ground. However, that’s not going to happen against the Clemson defense.

Jordan Yates, though, started throwing well with a great performance against Kennesaw State last week to go along with a few big things from the ground game. Basically, Georgia Tech did what it’s supposed to do against an FCS team – it worked on things.

The O had a bad day in the loss to Northern Illinois, but the defense was great and it did the job against Kennesaw State. The secondary has been solid, the D has been great on third downs, and …

Week 3 College Football Expert Picks

Why Clemson Will Win

Clemson isn’t Northern Illinois or Kennesaw State.

Blowing out South Carolina State doesn’t matter after the loss to Georgia, but the running game got to stretch its legs.

A problem last year – at least by Clemson’s standards – the ground attack went nowhere against a Georgia D that’ll stuff everyone, and then it went off against the Bulldogs of South Carolina State with close to seven yards per pop.

Okay, so it would be nice if DJ Uiagalelei was a little sharper, but that’s nitpicking. The offense should be able to grind away on a Georgia Tech defense that was fine in the first two games but is about to get hit hard.

Clemson still wants and needs to get the running game to a dominant level, and it’s going to give it another push this week.

Week 3 College Football Schedule, Predictions, Game Previews

What’s Going To Happen

It’s one of the biggest discussion points ever since the loss to Georgia – can Clemson get back to the College Football Playoff?

It’s considered a foregone conclusion that the Tigers will rip through the rest of its relatively light schedule, go 12-1 with an ACC title, and then the CFP committee will have a big discussion and decision.

It starts here. Don’t just assume Clemson is going to come out of the tunnel and destroy every ACC thing in its path. It’s in a strange position of having no margin for error as it still tries to go forward with a slew of new starting skill parts, and …

The defense will take care of everything.

It’s not going to be 73-7 like last year, but the points will come. It might be ragged, but the offense will be just fine, the amazing defense will stuff everything Georgia Tech tries to do, and it’ll feel and seem like business as usual.

Just watch, though, for how well Clemson runs and how sharp Uiagalelei is.

Georgia Tech is coming off a 46-27 win over Louisville last week after dropping their previous two games to UCF and Syracuse. They’ll be looking to bring some of the same energy as last week when they face the #1 Clemson Tigers.

Clemson has been rolling this year, coming off a 42-17 win over #7 Miami last week, we don’t see them stopping anytime soon. Trevor Lawrence has looked fantastic all year and will look for another win today against the Yellow Jackets.

Clemson (4-0) vs Georgia Tech (2-2) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on college football, go to BetMGM

Why Clemson Will Win

Alabama’s defense has struggled, Georgia’s offense is just okay, Notre Dame hasn’t been sharp, and Oklahoma and LSU are already out of the national title hunt.

Give credit to Clemson for making the dominant look routine.

The Tigers haven’t dealt with any real drama on the field so far with an ultra-efficient offense that’s explosive, tough, and brutally effective.

Georgia Tech isn’t sharp enough.

It commits too many penalties, has too many empty tripes, and the special teams have suffered a few meltdowns.

To make this simple, the Georgia Tech run defense isn’t good enough – it allowed over 240 rushing yards in two of the last three games and seven scores.

CFN Experts Picks: NFL

Why Georgia Tech Will Win

The defense has been doing a great job of taking the ball away.

Forget for a moment the five turnovers against both UCF and Syracuse, the defense came up with three takeaways in the wins over Florida State and Louisville, and three combined against UCF and Syracuse.

At home, the Yellow Jackets have to pound away and rumble for over 200 yards on the ground just to be in the discussion. They’re averaging over five yards per carry, and they have to keep it rolling by owning third downs, controlling the clock, and forcing turnovers and capitalizing on them.

CFN Experts Picks: College Football

What’s Going To Happen

Georgia Tech will have its moments of pesky with a few big shots down the field to at least have a little bit of fun, but Clemson will be emptying the bench in the fourth quarter yet again.

How crazy is it to try predicting a college football season months in advance when 1) there wasn’t any spring ball, 2) there aren’t any real depth charts to go off of, 3) and we don’t even know what the 2020 season is going to be?

Just crazy enough to potentially get some fantastic values on the early lines.

You can bet now at BetMGM on a whole lot of college football games – including going really insane looking at lines in November – with the possibility of hitting something big.

We’ll be diving in a whole lot deeper when we do this for real just before the season. But for now …

Clemson vs Georgia Tech Game Preview: Preseason Version

Why Clemson Will Win

So you know all those Clemson Tigers who got picked over NFL Draft weekend? What, there didn’t seem like there were that many from a national championship-caliber program? That’s because a whole lot of them came back.

Four of the top five tacklers might be gone, but the defensive line returns most of the parts, enough of the top receivers are back, and the backfield tandem of QB Trevor Lawrence and RB Travis Etienne is still hanging around.

Georgia Tech might be returning enough experience to be better, but it still has to figure out how to move the ball. It’s not like the team suddenly figured it out late last season. Stop the run, stop the Yellow Jackets.

Why Georgia Tech Will Win

There’s a whole lot returning.

It might still be a little while longer to make the full transition from the Paul Johnson option attack days to what head man Geoff Collins is trying to do, but at least there’s experience.

A few Power Five-sized offensive linemen are transferring in, 20 of the top 21 tacklers from last year are expected to be back, QB James Graham returns along with most of the top rushers, and the top three pass catchers are there.

But …

What’s Going To Happen

Is all the Georgia Tech experience enough to actually beat the big dog in the season opener? No, but it might be just enough to keep it relatively close …

For a while.

Clemson is pretty good at the whole make-a-statement thing. Including last year’s win over Georgia Tech, it has won its last three openers by a combined score of 156 to 24.

The Tigers pull away big after a competitive first quarter.
