Notre Dame legend speaks on son’s recruitment vs. his own

Back in the day when I was Young I ain’t a kid anymore…

Few defensive lineman have come through Notre Dame or the San Francisco 49ers and made the impact Bryant Young made.

At Notre Dame, he helped lead a downright nasty defense and make the middle of the line of scrimmage nearly impossible for opponents to generate anything through.

In the NFL it was more of the same. Young stepped in his rookie year and helped the 49ers to a Super Bowl championship. Years later he was enshrined in Canton, Ohio, in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

So what was recruiting like for Young compared to his son (also named Bryce) who recently signed as part of Notre Dame’s 2024 recruiting class?

The older Young was in attendance at the All-American Bowl to see the younger play on the big stage. He shared a few minutes with NBC during the game to discuss exactly that.

Notre Dame also landed a commitment from 2025 defensive lineman [autotag]Christopher Burgess[/autotag] of Chicago during the game.

Scouts view: Notre Dame newest commit, 2025 edge rusher Christopher Burgess

The Irish get another big time prospect in their 2025 class

Notre Dame football scored a huge recruiting win on Saturday afternoon, as 2025 Illinois defense end [autotag]Christopher Burgess[/autotag] committed to the Irish.

The 6-foot, 4-inch and 240-pound edge rusher is considered one of the best prospects in the country, ranking as the No. 18 defensive lineman and 147th overall recruit according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

The Irish beat out some of the other top schools in the country, who also wanted Burgess as part of their 2025 recruiting class. Notre Dame should be extremely happy with their most recent addition, and so should you. Here is my breakdown of the skill set Burgess will bring to South Bend.

Ohio State football misses on 2025 Illinois defensive end

The Buckeyes miss out on another Illinois defensive lineman

Although Ohio State football is red hot on the recruiting trail, there will be some misses.

One of those happened during the All-American Bowl, as Illinois 2025 defensive end [autotag]Christopher Burgess[/autotag] had a Buckeye hat on the table, but opted to choose Notre Dame.

Burgess visited Columbus over the summer, which saw him land an offer, but Ohio State wasn’t able to close on the impressive edge rusher. He is ranked as the No. 18 defensive lineman and 147th overall prospect in the country according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

It’s unfortunate that the Buckeyes weren’t able to close on Burgess, as they have had multiple misses along the defensive line in Illinois during the past two cycles.

Ohio State missed out on Marquise Lightfoot, Justin Scott and now Burgess. There is not doubt they’ll continue to recruit the state, but will need to have better results in the future.

Ohio State 2025 defensive line target set to announce commitment in early January

The Buckeyes could add an elite end to it’s 2025 class in a few weeks

When looking back at the past two Ohio State football recruiting classes, there is a major need for defensive lineman.

The Buckeyes signed just two during this past early period, but there are potentially still a few that may be added. Regardless of the outcome of the uncommitted targets, Ohio State still needs to bring in multiple high-end lineman in the 2025 class.

One of those targets is Illinois pass rusher [autotag]Christopher Burgess[/autotag], will make his choice on January 6th, selecting from the Buckeyes, Notre Dame, Michigan and Alabama. At 6-foot, 4-inches and 240-pounds, he fits the mold of an impact player at the position that Ohio State needs.

Burgess is ranked as one of the best prospects in the country, ranking as the No. 18 defensive lineman and 147th overall prospect in the country according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Notre Dame 2025 defensive end target will announce commitment in early January

The Irish 2025 class could grow in a few weeks

Notre Dame football is off to a very fast start to its 2025 recruiting class, and it might continue to get more steam in early January.

Illinois defensive end [autotag]Christopher Burgess[/autotag] will be playing in the All-American Bowl on January 6th, where he will make his commitment. The 6-foot, 5-inch and 240-pound edge will make his choice between three Midwest powers (Michigan, Ohio State, and the Irish) along with Alabama.

Burgess is ranked as the No. 18 defensive lineman and the 147th overall prospect in the country according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. The Irish currently have three other defensive lineman committed in the class, and if they were to land Burgess, most likely would be done at the position.

Four-star class of 2025 edge rusher visits Madison

Christopher Burgess Jr., a four-star class of 2025 edge rusher from Chicago, Illinois visited Madison on Saturday.

Christopher Burgess Jr., a four-star class of 2025 edge rusher from Chicago, Illinois visited Madison on Saturday. The soon to be junior at Simeon High School was offered by the Badgers in May and has now made his official visit.

Burgess is a 6-foot-4, 240-pound problem off the edge and he is considered a top 25 defensive lineman in the class of 2025 by 247Sports. His sophomore season highlights from Simeon can be found here.

With Luke Fickell taking over at head coach, defense has remained a focus of the future and Burgess would be a massive commitment if the Badgers can get him. As of right now, only quarterback Landyn Locke (Rockwall, TX) has committed for the class of 2025.

Ohio State offers 2025 Illinois defense end after working out in front of coaches

The defensive end wowed the coaches at camp and earned an offer #GoBucks

Camp season is in full force and for [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag], it gives them an opportunity to get to see and work with prospects up close.

The hands-on approach has helped the coaching staff evaluate prospects like Illinois 2025 defensive end, [autotag]Christopher Burgess Jr.[/autotag] The 6-foot, 5-inch, 260-pound lineman was offered a scholarship after working out at one of their camps on Tuesday afternoon.

Burgess Jr. is ranked as the No. 22 edge rusher and 255th overall prospect according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. The Buckeyes aren’t the only major program after the talented defensive end, as Burgess Jr. already held offers from Alabama, Georgia, Notre Dame, and USC.

Ohio State has continued its recruitment of Illinois and has done a very good job selecting top-end talent in the state. The Buckeyes are recruiting Marquise Lightfoot and Justin Scott of the 2024 class and recently have signed Carnell Tate and Kaleb Brown, although Brown has since transferred out.
