Saints promote Shane Lemieux to the 53-man roster, put Erik McCoy on I.R.

The Saints reported a couple of roster moves on Wednesday, with Erik McCoy going on injured reserve and a replacement coming up from the practice squad:

The New Orleans Saints reported a couple of roster moves on Wednesday, with starting center Erik McCoy going on injured reserve and a possible replacement coming up from the practice squad. McCoy is expected to be out six to eight weeks recovering from sports hernia surgery.

Veteran backup Shane Lemieux was promoted to the 53-man roster in McCoy’s place but don’t expect him to start. It’ll probably be Lucas Patrick filling in at center again this week. Look for Lemieux to dress out as an emergency option should something happen to Patrick, too.

These weren’t the only moves the Saints made. With Lemieux creating an opening on the practice squad, they signed journeyman Chris Reed after a round of free agent tryouts earlier this week. Reed has pro experience at both guard spots and tackle.

Still, the Saints’ offensive line is a mess. Right guard Cesar Ruiz is managing a knee issue and if he can’t dress out against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday then all five of last year’s starters will miss this game. Hopefully they can get by with whoever is healthy enough to play.

Saints add offensive line depth, signing Chris Reed to the practice squad

The Saints have signed offensive line depth due to the Erik McCoy injury, bringing in Chris Reed to the practice squad:

The New Orleans Saints have added some offensive line depth to the team due to the injury to Erik McCoy in Week 3, as they have signed offensive lineman Chris Reed to the practice squad, per NewOrleans.Football’s Nick Underhill. This signing comes after Reed came in for a tryout with four other offensive linemen to see if the Saints could add some depth to the roster, or potentially even an eventual starter.

Reed has played in the league for eight seasons across various teams but has had trouble sticking with any in recent years. The Minnesota Vikings are his most recent team in 2022 and 2023, but before that he got regular starting time with the Indianapolis Colts and Carolina Panthers. 2020 and 2021 are his last two seasons with more than one game started, with 14 in 2020 and 6 in 2021. 2020 was a phenomenal year for him statistically, as he put up 892 offensive snaps, giving up only 1 sack, 19 pressures, and had only three penalties.

Primarily his position is guard, with 1,831 snaps at left guard and 388 at right guard in his career, however in 2022 he took up playing center some, and had 124 snaps allowing only 2 pressures with no sacks, and 2 penalties. We will see ultimately which position he ends up at with the Saints, and whether or not he ends up making a start at some point this season.

Starters highlight Vikings inactives vs. Bengals

Multiple starters highlight the Vikings inactive list against the Bengals

The Minnesota Vikings have announced their inactives for Saturday afternoon’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

  • RB Alexander Mattison
  • RT Brian O’Neill
  • WR Jalen Nailor
  • S Lewis Cine
  • TE Nick Muse
  • G Chris Reed
  • QB Josh Dobbs (emergency QB)

Mattison, O’Neill and Nailor were all ruled out earlier this week due to their injuries suffered against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Muse has yet to be active for a game this season. The reason for having Muse on the roster and not the practice squad seems to be tied to not wanting to lose him to another team.

Reed was a late add to the injury report due to an illness. With the return of both Ed Ingram and Dalton Risner, the Vikings should be okay without him. Hakeem Adeniji will dress in his place.

Dobbs was demoted to third-string quarterback earlier this week and will only be called upon in an emergency situation.

Cine continues to be inactive which is very frustrating to many. Time will tell if Cine will develop into a contributing player.

The game kicks off at noon CST.

Vikings Wednesday injury report adds one name

The injury report on Wednesday showed one added name for the Minnesota Vikings.

The Minnesota Vikings held their first practice of the week, as they did a walkthrough on Tuesday. The injury report did add one name to it with one other player seeing improvement.

  • RG Ed Ingram (hip): Full
  • WR Justin Jefferson (chest): Limited
  • LG Dalton Risner (ankle): Limited
  • RT Brian O’Neill (ankle): Did not practice
  • WR Jalen Nailor (concussion): Did not practice
  • RB Alexander Mattison (ankle): Did not practice
  • G Chris Reed (illness): Did not practice

Reed was the addition to the report with an illness. That could mead a lot of things but also will be worth monitoring moving forward.

Ingram taking a step forward is a really important distinction to his status on Sunday. With O’Neill still nursing his ankle injury, if Ingram returns, could Blake Brandel start at tackle or will it be Quessenberry?

Thursday afternoon will see the final injury report released and that will tell us who will and won’t play on Saturday.

Vikings inactives include Akayleb Evans, Lewis Cine to play

After a four week absence, Lewis Cine returns for the Minnesota Vikings as they take on the Chicago Bears on Monday night football.

The Minnesota Vikings have released their inactives for Monday night’s game against the Chicago Bears.

  • CB Akayleb Evans
  • TE Nick Muse
  • ILB Nick Vigil
  • G Chris Reed
  • OT Hakeem Adeniji
  • QB Jaren Hall

Evans is out for the second consecutive game. It’s the smart call with the bye week next week.

Muse is inactive for the 12th-consecutive game and Adeniji is inactive once again as well.

Vigil is inactive due to the health of Brian Asamoah II who returns after a four-game absence.

Hall is the emergency third quarterback and will be behind both Josh Dobbs and Nick Mullens.

The big thing here is that Lewis Cine is active for the first time since the October 29th game against the Green Bay Packers.

The game kicks off at 7:15 p.m. CST.

Vikings make two roster moves on Monday

The Vikings needed to make a roster move after Sunday’s game saw a season-ending injury

After their loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday night, the Minnesota Vikings made two roster moves.

  • DE Dean Lowry was placed on injured reserve
  • G Chris Reed was activated from the non-football injury list

Lowry suffered a pectoral injury on Sunday night that will require surgery. That surgery will make him miss the rest of the season.

The Vikings already don’t have a great defensive line and losing a player will hurt. They do have T.J. Smith and Sheldon Day on the practice squad to help fortify the unit.

Reed needed to be activated before Wednesday as his practice window was closing. He will be a nice addition to the depth on the roster, especially having another player who can play center in a pinch.

Vikings make 5 roster moves, distictions for Week 11 vs. Broncos

The Vikings made several moves, including elevating Anthony Barr

The Minnesota Vikings are set to take on the Denver Broncos on Sunday night in the Mile High City.

The final injury report left the Vikings with a lot of questions on who would be playing on Sunday night. On Saturday, the Vikings made five different roster moves and distinctions. Here are the moves the Vikings made ahead of Sunday.

Vikings injury report: Mattison improves, Dobbs remains

Thursday’s injury report showed improvement

The Minnesota Vikings released their injury report for Thursday and it showed a little bit of improvement.

  • CB Akayleb Evans (calf): Did not practice
  • RB Alexander Mattison: (concussion): Limited
  • ILB Brian Asamoah (ankle): Limited
  • TE T.J. Hockenson (ribs): Limited
  • QB Nick Mullens (back): Limited
  • QB Josh Dobbs (ankle): Full
  • QB Jaren Hall (concussion): Full
  • DE Dean Lowry (groin): Full
  • WR K.J. Osborn (concussion): Full
  • G Chris Reed (foot): Full

There were three changes from yesterday’s report. Greg Joseph was removed after missing practice on Wednesday due to a personal matter. Hall improved to a full participant and Mattison improved to a limited participant. Both players are hoping to be removed from concussion protocol before Sunday’s game.

The biggest concern is Evans still not practicing with his calf injury. If he is unable to go, we would be seeing a substantial amount of both Andrew Booth Jr. and Mekhi Blackmon. We also would likely see Joejuan Williams get elevated from the practice squad.

Friday’s injury report will hopefully have more clarity and less names.

Vikings initial Week 11 injury report includes Josh Dobbs

The initial injury report includes quarterback Josh Dobbs

The Minnesota Vikings have released their initial injury report for Sunday night’s game against the Denver Broncos and it’s relatively deep. The Vikings did not practice on Wednesday but held a walkthrough.

  • CB Akayleb Evans (calf): Did not practice
  • K Greg Joseph (not injury related-personal matter): Did not practice
  • RB Alexander Mattison: (concussion): Did not practice
  • ILB Brian Asamoah (ankle): Limited
  • QB Jaren Hall (concussion): Limited
  • TE T.J. Hockenson (ribs): Limited
  • QB Nick Mullens (back): Limited
  • QB Josh Dobbs (ankle): Full
  • DE Dean Lowry (groin): Full
  • WR K.J. Osborn (concussion): Full
  • G Chris Reed (foot): Full

The biggest additions to the list are Evans, Mattison and Dobbs. Evans suffered his injury on Sunday against the New Orleans Saints. The team has some hope that Mattison will play on Sunday despite not participating in the walkthrough. Dobbs’ ankle is a new injury that wasn’t reported before.

Lowry did see improvement from last week being listed as a full participant. He looks to be on track to play against the Broncos. Asamoah still hasn’t improved from last week. His injury paired with Hicks being hurt explains the Anthony Barr signing.

Thursday’s injury report will tell us more about who will play on Sunday.
