Pacers: Chris Duarte held out of second game of back-to-back

Duarte was ruled out of playing Sunday on the second night of a back-to-back versus the Hawks.

Indiana Pacers rookie Chris Duarte was ruled out of playing Sunday versus the Atlanta Hawks on the second night of a back-to-back set due to a nagging left big toe injury, the team announced.

Duarte has been battling the injury for much of the past month after initially jamming it on Feb. 13 versus the Minnesota Timberwolves. The game on Sunday marked the seventh that Duarte has missed because of the injury, and 15th overall of the season.

Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle called their back-to-back set particularly tough due to the time zone change coming from San Antonio and the hour lost because of daylight saving time. The Pacers play next on Tuesday as Duarte could be ready to play in that contest.

Duarte last played on Saturday in a win over the Spurs, producing 15 points, eight rebounds and one assist in 33 minutes of work. Carlisle inserted him back into the starting lineup in that contest and had an efficient outing, shooting 5-of-9 from the field.

The 13th pick has emerged as one of the top first-year players, averaging 13.2 points, 4.1 rebounds, 2.1 assists and one steal in 54 games. He ranks sixth among all rookies in scoring, fourth in 3-pointers and sixth in field goals.

Pacers: Chris Duarte finished in double figures in return from injury

Duarte on Tuesday returned from a three-game absence due to a toe injury and scored in double figures during a loss to the Cavaliers.

Indiana Pacers rookie Chris Duarte on Tuesday returned from a three-game absence due to a toe injury and scored in double figures during a loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Duarte produced 11 points, two rebounds, one assist and one steal in 15 minutes of work in the 127-124 defeat. He looked to be a bit rusty in the contest, converting just 4-of-14 shot attempts from the field, including 1-of-4 from 3-point range.

The 13th pick initially suffered the injury on Feb. 13 and then missed the next three games. He returned to play two games but left early on Feb. 28 after aggravating the injury. Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle said the team would be cautious to get Duarte more time to recover.

Duarte has emerged as one of the top first-year players, averaging 13.2 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.1 assists. He was the ninth player in team history to be selected for the NBA Rising Stars game and the first since Domantas Sabonis in 2018.

The final 15 games of the season will be a good opportunity for Duarte and the rest of the team to build positive momentum heading into next season so the team will likely continue to ease him back into action to prevent further injury.

Rick Carlisle: Pacers will be careful with injury to Chris Duarte

Duarte was ruled out of playing Wednesday on the road versus the Magic after aggravating the injury.

Indiana Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle said Chris Duarte will not play Wednesday on the road versus the Orlando Magic due to a lingering left big toe injury.

Duarte initially suffered the injury on Feb. 13 in a loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves. He was sidelined for the three games and missed the NBA Rising Stars game before returning to play on Sunday in a win over the Boston Celtics.

The 13th pick played against the Magic on Monday but eventually left early in the third quarter after aggravating the injury. Carlisle couldn’t offer a potential timetable for his return.

I don’t know what the timetable is going to be with him. He could miss a few games (or) a game. It is hard to say. Toes can be difficult so he is getting a lot of treatment. He did go through some things in shootaround today but we’re going to be careful with it.

Duarte has emerged as one of the top first-year players, averaging 13.3 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists. He was the ninth player in team history to be selected for the Rising Stars game, and the first since Domantas Sabonis in 2018.

The Pacers will continue a four-game road trip on Friday in Detroit before wrapping it up on Sunday with the Washington Wizards so it is possible Duarte can return to play at some point on their East Coast trek.

Rick Carlisle offers update on Chris Duarte after aggravating toe injury

Duarte on Monday was forced to leave early after aggravating a left toe injury in the third quarter in a loss to the Magic.

Chris Duarte left the Indiana Pacers‘ 119-103 loss on the road to the Orlando Magic early on Monday after aggravating a left big toe injury in the third quarter.

Duarte appeared to experience some discomfort after fouling Magic guard Cole Anthony midway through the period. He checked out of the game and went back to the locker room and was eventually ruled out of returning by the team.

Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle is hopeful Duarte can play on Wednesday.

His toe is sore so we’ll hope that in the next day and a half that he can get it feeling better. Sometimes, you get kicked and it hurts a lot and it calms down but I don’t know what is going to happen with that. I did tell him get with the trainers, get treatment and try to get ready for Wednesday and, if not, it’ll be Friday.

Duarte previously missed three games with the injury but returned to play on Sunday in a win over the Boston Celtics. He recorded 11 points and four rebounds in that victory and finished with seven points and four rebounds in 14 minutes versus the Magic.

He has emerged as one of the top first-year players, averaging 13.3 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists. He was selected to compete in the NBA Rising Stars game but missed it due to the toe injury. He was the ninth player in team history to be selected for the showcase game.

The Pacers will face the Magic again in Orlando on Wednesday as the team is hopeful Duarte can suit up in that contest. They continue a four-game road trip on Friday in Detroit before wrapping it up on Sunday with the Washington Wizards.

Rick Carlisle: Chris Duarte close to returning from toe injury

Duarte has missed the past three games for the Pacers after suffering a toe injury on Feb. 13.

Indiana Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle on Friday said rookie Chris Duarte is recovering well from a left toe injury and is close to returning to game action.

Duarte initially suffered the injury on Feb. 13 in a loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves. He logged just four minutes of action in the contest and was eventually ruled out of returning to play. He stayed back in the locker room to receive treatment.

The 13th pick did not practice with the Pacers on Wednesday but eventually made good progress with the injury and was a game-time decision on Friday versus the Oklahoma City Thunder. He attempted to play but was ultimately unable to go.

[mm-video type=video id=01fwjejhw8dq91smy524 playlist_id=01f09kz5ecxq9bp57b player_id=01f1jxkahtwnvzepyp image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01fwjejhw8dq91smy524/01fwjejhw8dq91smy524-0d7eb96a4b8ecf54e9165ff5d6e25cfc.jpg]

Duarte has emerged as one of the top first-year players this year after averaging 13.4 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists. He was the ninth player in team history to be selected to compete in the Rising Stars game and the first since Domantas Sabonis in 2018.

With the Pacers playing on Friday, Duarte could return on Sunday versus the Boston Celtics. They will then face the Orlando Magic for a pair of contests on the road so Duarte figures to be back on the court within the next few games given his recent progress.

Indiana Pacers rookie Chris Duarte did not practice on Wednesday due to a left toe injury, head coach Rick Carlisle said.

Duarte initially suffered the injury on Feb. 13 in a loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves. He logged just four minutes of action in the contest and was eventually ruled out of returning to play. He stayed back in the locker room to receive treatment.

Former Oregon Ducks guard Chris Duarte, now a rookie with the Indiana Pacers, will miss the NBA Rising Stars game at All-Star Weekend with a toe injury, according to a tweet from Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Duarte will be replaced by Golden State Warriors rookie forward Jonathan Kuminga.

The Rising Stars game underwent a new format for this year, with 28 players – 12 rookies, 12 sophomores, and four members of the G League Ignite – divided up into four different teams to compete in three games on Friday, February 18.

Duarte was a part of Team Payton, alongside LaMelo Ball, Scottie Barnes and Davion Mitchell, among others.

Duarte initially suffered the injury in the first quarter of Sunday’s loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves. He missed the rest of the game and has not played since, and is now set to miss the All-Star festivities over the weekend.

Fortunately, Pacers coach Rick Carlisle does not believe the injury is too serious, saying he expects he will be back in action after the All-Star break.

Jonathan Kuminga to replace Chris Duarte in Rising Stars game

Kuminga will reportedly replace Duarte in the NBA Rising Stars game after the Pacers guard suffered an injury this week.

Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga will reportedly replace Indiana Pacers guard Chris Duarte in the NBA Rising Stars game, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Duarte suffered a left big toe injury on Sunday in a loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle said Duarte would miss the final two games before the All-Star break as he has now been reportedly ruled out of playing in the annual showcase game.

The 13th pick was among 12 rookie players selected to participate in the Rising Stars game after averaging 13.4 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists. He became the ninth player in team history to be selected to compete in the game and the first since Domantas Sabonis in 2018.

Kuminga is averaging 7.9 points and 2.8 rebounds on 50.4% shooting from the field in 46 appearances. He is in the midst of his best stretch of the season, averaging 15.7 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists over his last seven games, including three starts.

The seventh pick was viewed as perhaps the top snub from the Rising Stars game. Warriors teammate Klay Thompson even called it a travesty that Kuminga was left out of the festivities given the impact he has made this season.

With Duarte now injured, Kuminga will have the opportunity to participate in the exhibition game on Friday. He will be on Team Gary Payton, along with LaMelo Ball and Scottie Barnes among others.
