ChatGPT ranked the top 15 Rams players of all time. How did it do?

We asked ChatGPT to rank the 15 best players in Rams history and it put Aaron Donald way too low

Ranking any franchise’s all-time best players will always be subjective. There are so many factors to consider, whether it’s championships won, individual stats, awards or postseason success – among many other things to consider.

One way to take the human element out of the selection process is by deferring to artificial intelligence. Even still, it’s hard for AI to rank the 15 best players in Rams history without ruffling some feathers and angering fans.

We asked ChatGPT, the viral language model AI chatbot, to rank the top 15 players to ever wear a Rams uniform and the result was perfectly reasonable. We don’t know what ChatGPT used as the basis for its rankings, but what we can say is the chatbot’s data only goes back to 2021 so it doesn’t have any knowledge of events that occurred from 2022 on.

That undoubtedly hurt Aaron Donald’s placement on the list, considering he won a Super Bowl in 2022. Cooper Kupp probably wouldn’t have made the top 15 regardless, but he also won a ring and was named Offensive Player of the Year after the 2021 season.

Here’s how ChatGPT ranked the Rams’ top 15 players, with Roman Gabriel and Torry Holt receiving honorable mentions.

  1. Merlin Olsen
  2. Marshall Faulk
  3. Eric Dickerson
  4. Deacon Jones
  5. Jack Youngblood
  6. Kurt Warner
  7. Isaac Bruce
  8. Jackie Slater
  9. Tom Mack
  10. Orlando Pace
  11. Elroy “Crazy Legs” Hirsch
  12. Rosey Grier
  13. Lawrence McCutcheon
  14. Aaron Donald
  15. Bob Waterfield

So, what do you think? The Rams have had so many legends wear the horns, so separating even the top 10 is difficult. Olsen, Jones and Youngblood are all considered all-time great defensive linemen, while Faulk and Dickerson are two of the best running backs to ever play in the NFL.

Warner didn’t spent a ton of time with the Rams but he won a Super Bowl and MVP and was the quarterback of one of the best offenses in NFL history. Bruce was a major part of that offense, too, as was Pace at left tackle.

The most glaring issue with ChatGPT’s list is Donald’s placement. He should be much higher than No. 14, especially after winning a ring. He’s a three-time Defensive Player of the Year and is considered one of the best defenders in league history.

Top 10 Notre Dame women’s basketball players according to ChatGPT

Does the bot know women’s basketball?

I asked AI information bot ChatGPT to list what it believes are Notre Dame’s top 10 men’s basketball players. It only makes sense for me to give the women equal treatment. Plus the women have both a better recent past and future than the men. You know people want to know who’s made the program so special.

Please note that ChatGPT’s knowledge cuts off at September 2021, so you won’t find [autotag]Olivia Miles[/autotag] on this list. Heck, she probably wouldn’t have made it anyway since she just completed her sophomore season. She still has a legacy to complete.

Here is ChatGPT’s disclaimer regarding the list:

“As a language model, I do not have personal opinions or beliefs, and my responses are generated based on data and information available to me. However, I can provide you with a list of some of the most notable Notre Dame women’s basketball players, based on their achievements, accolades, and impact on the program.”

It also says this:

“Please note that this list is not exhaustive and is subject to personal opinions and interpretations. There have been many talented and accomplished players in Notre Dame women’s basketball history, and different people may have different criteria for their top 10 selections.”

With that out of the way, let’s see who the information bot has deemed worthy of making this list and what it had to say about each player:

Top 10 Notre Dame men’s basketball players according to ChatGPT

Let’s see what AI knows about Irish men’s hoops.

For the past few months, I’ve heard quite a bit about the AI information bot known as ChatGPT. It was the subject of an episode during this past season of “South Park”. More importantly, I’ve heard how it’s such a game-changer that writing jobs are done for. We’ll see about that as I’m not too worried about it, but then again, I’m sure newspaper employees said the same thing about the internet in the mid-1990s.

When our editor Nick Shepkowski decided to ask ChatGPT what it thought Notre Dame’s 10 best football players were, I decided to follow suit and ask the same question but for the 10 best men’s basketball players instead. Keep in mind that even the bot knows this list is subjective:

“Please note that there are many other outstanding players who have played for Notre Dame and could also be included on this list.”

So keep that in mind as you go over the following list, which also includes ChatGPT’s description of each player:

ChatGPT ranks the top 10 Big 12 quarterbacks of all time

Open Source AI ChatGPT ranked the top 10 Big 12 quarterbacks of all-time. Four of them were Oklahoma Sooners.

Over the life of the Big 12 conference, it’s become synonymous with high-scoring offenses and high-level quarterback play.

There have been Heisman trophy winners and first-overall picks, and the conference that’s been at the forefront of the aerial assault that’ taking college football by storm.

We’ve all spent time ranking quarterbacks, but for this version, we thought it’d be fun to let the computers do it. Using Open AI’s ChatGPT, we simply asked, “Who are the best Big 12 quarterbacks of all time?”

Its response?

These quarterbacks have all made significant contributions to their respective teams and have impressive statistics and accomplishments. However, it’s important to note that there have been many other great quarterbacks in the Big 12 who could also be considered for this list. – ChatGPT

Their top 10 is pretty solid. There are certainly arguments to be made for several others that made significant impacts or even won a Heisman trophy, but not bad from a computer-generated AI.

Here’s a look at the rankings.

ChatGPT ranks Michigan football 10 best players of all time

Did AI get it right? #GoBlue

ChatGPT and artificial intelligence have been all the rage of late, despite the many cautionary tales throughout history. Movies such as “Terminator” have built franchise on AI’s threat to destroy humanity while movies like “AI” introduce the more human element.

While there are certainly nefarious uses of such technology, what about using it for a more innocuous sort, such as asking it who are the best Michigan football players of all time?

So we did, and while it claimed to issue a top 10 in no particular order, we still took it as an in-order ranking (it did issue the players numerically). There are certainly some snubs we feel should have made the cut, but here are the former Wolverines that artificial intelligence believes are the best to ever don a winged helmet.

ChatGPT ranks Penn State football’s top 10 players of all-time

ChatGPT ranks the top 10 players in Penn State history. Did it get it right?

The storied history of Penn State football is full of all-time great players not just in program history, but in the history of the sport of football. Coming up with a list of the top 10 players of all time is always an interesting exercise because the opinions you have on the subject may change by the day. Do you lean more toward the defensive standouts or give preference to some of the top offensive players of all time?

In an ever-evolving world of artificial intelligence and analytical analysis, what if you just let a computer do the ranking for you? It may not be a perfect science, but out of curiosity, I turned to ChatGPT, a language model trained by OpenAI, and asked the AI interface to rank the top 10 players in Penn State football history for me.

The results were not too bad, although I do have some different opinions on the ranking. But let’s take a look at how ChatGPT ranked the top 10 players in Penn State’s football history.

The Microsoft Bing AI chatbot having disturbing conversations with users, explained

Bing’s AI chatbot has been saying some disturbing stuff lately. Yikes.

Welcome to FTW Explains, a guide to catching up on and better understanding stuff going on in the world. Have you seen headlines, tweets and stories about a Bing chatbot that’s having some very weird conversations with users? And wondering what’s up with that? We’re here to help.

As you may have seen, ChatGPT is very much a thing these days that people are having fun with — that uses artificial intelligence to craft answers to questions or requests.

But now, Microsoft’s search engine, Bing, is using an AI chatbot that users have been trying out. And that results have been, uh, pretty disturbing.

Let’s dive in:

We asked ChatGPT to predict the outcomes of college bowl games and things got weird

Is Texas back? Is the Mayo bath good? Who wins the CFP? We asked ChatGPT to predict all the answers.

The second ChatGPT went viral, the obvious question for bettors was how to best use this to beat the sportsbook.

The answer is also pretty obvious: It can’t. At least not yet.

Among the listed limitations of the truly impressive artificial intelligence app are three that any bettor thinking of using it should be weary of:

  1. May occasionally generate incorrect information
  2. May occasionally produce harmful instructions or biased content
  3. Limited knowledge of world and events after 2021

Any one of those would be bad enough. All three are a recipe for disaster….right? Maybe we should just find out anyways. And while we’re at it, let’s ask the bot some of bowl season’s biggest questions.

Surely nothing can go wrong!
