The Baltimore Ravens are a team that values tight ends quite a bit. After selecting both Hayden Hurst and Mark Andrews in the 2018 draft to pair with Nick Boyle, Hurst was traded during the 2020 offseason and the team hasn’t been able to find a replacement for him ever since. However, they’re trying to do just that in 2022, selecting Iowa State tight end Charlie Kolar.

Kolar is a huge player for his postion, standing at 6-foot-6 and weighing around 255 pounds. He can run a multitude of routes, and put together an impressive college career with the Cyclones that inlcuded 168 catches for 2,181 yards and 23 touchdowns.

Kolar should be able to fill in nicely behind Andrews and Boyle. He offers a very intriguing skillset, and with how much the Ravens’ offense values tight ends, could make an immediate impact during his rookie season as a target for quarterback Lamar Jackson.

The Baltimore Ravens continue their run of picks in the fourth round, and have now made half of their six selections. Offensive tackle Daniel Faalele and cornerback Jalyn Armour-Davis were the team’s first two picks, and next at No. 128 overall they selected Iowa State tight end Charlie Kolar.

Kolar is a big target, and should be another receiving option for Lamar Jackson. Baltimore has needed a quality third tight end ever since Hayden Hurst departed, and Kolar has the potential to be a very good player behind Mark Andrews and Nick Boyle in the Ravens’ tight end room.

Ravens build up trenches early in 7-round mock draft by CBS Sports

The Ravens built up their depth in the trenches early in the latest seven-round mock draft by CBS Sports

The Baltimore Ravens have done an extremely solid job of upgrading certain parts of their roster during the 2022 offseason. They added safety Marcus Williams, offensive tackle Morgan Moses and defensive lineman Michael Pierce while also bringing back fullback Patrick Ricard, inside linebacker Josh Bynes and defensive lineman Calais Campbell. However, with the 2022 NFL draft coming up there are other areas that Baltimore can shore up with the 10 projected picks that they have.

In his latest full seven-round 2022 mock draft, Josh Edwards of CBS Sports utilized all of the Ravens’ 10 selections to address some of the holes remaining on their roster, including in the trenches. Edwards goes very offensive line and defensive line heavy on the first two days of the draft, starting off with University of Northern Iowa offensive lineman Trevor Penning at No. 14. Edwards explains that there has been buzz that Penning won’t make it past Baltimore’s selection.

“Baltimore traded away Orlando Brown Jr., and Ronnie Stanley has battled injuries of late. Considering the ground game is the foundation of the Ravens offense, the franchise would be wise to invest in the position and have some options down the road. There is a lot of buzz that the Northern Iowa product is not going to make it beyond this pick.”

Penning is a very powerful player, but many view him as a trade-back candidate for the Ravens due to his lack of refined technique that could be a problem at the next level. He’s still a first-round prospect, but he might not be one that the team considers if they make a selection at No. 14.

On day two of the draft in the second and third rounds, Edwards selects Connecticut defensive lineman Travis Jones at No. 45, Oklahoma edge rusher Nik Bonnito at No. 76, and UCLA offensive lineman Sean Rhyan at No.100.

Day three of Edwards’ draft has Baltimore filling out the rest of their needs, starting in the fourth round where the team selected cornerback Martin Emerson out of Mississippi State at No. 110, Mississippi State wide receiver Makai Polk at No. 117, tight end Charlie Kolar out of Iowa State at No. 128, cornerback Alontae Taylor out of Tennesee at No. 139, and BYU running back Tyler Allgeier at No. 141. Finally, with the 196th overall pick the Ravens round out their draft with inside linebacker Jeremiah Gemmel out of North Carolina.

Positionally, Edwards valued the trenches early while filling out the rest of the draft with other needs. Emerson and Taylor make for a nice mid-round cornerback duo, while Kolar, Allgeier and Gemmel represent smaller needs with good value in the later portion of the draft.

The players selected by Edwards would also give the Ravens some flexibility for other free agent signings after the draft. Edwards only selects on edge rusher for Baltimore, so a potential free agent such as Jadeveon Clowney could be in the cards for this scenario.

Colts stockpile talent in ESPN’s 7-round mock draft

Here’s a look at the 7-round mock draft for the Colts from ESPN.

The 2022 NFL draft is just around the corner and analysts across the league are putting in work trying to figure out which players are the best fits for every team in the NFL.

The Indianapolis Colts have made it clear what types of players they like at certain positions. Whether it comes down to a certain physical build, skill set or athletic mold, the last five drafts have given us plenty of insight as to how Chris Ballard targets players.

Over at ESPN, draft analyst Jordan Reid conducted a seven-round mock draft for every pick.

Here we are going to take a look at the Colts’ haul in his mock draft:

Lions 2022 NFL draft: A tight end for every round

The latest in the “prospect for each round of the 2022 NFL draft” series focuses on tight ends, a definite need for the Detroit Lions

It doesn’t get brought up very often in the list of Detroit Lions needs this offseason, but tight end definitely merits inclusion. The Lions bring back Pro Bowler T.J. Hockenson, who should be healthy and ready to roll once again. Free agent signee Garrett Griffin can handle the veteran blocking TE role, at least that’s the expectation. Griffin is on a one-year, veteran-minimum contract so that certainly doesn’t mean anything for the long-term team building.

The rest of the depth chart consists of undrafted rookies from a year ago (Brock Wright, Shane Zylstra) and some castoffs (Matt Sokol, Jared Pinkney) who have collectively never caught a single NFL pass. While the Lions subsisted a year ago by using an extra offensive tackle (primarily Will Holden, still unsigned) as a blocking tight end, it would be nice to get some youthful potential with experience at the position into the Lions pipeline. Hockenson is the only tight end under contractual control after 2022.

As with the rest of this series of identifying potential prospects of interest in each round of the draft, the purpose here isn’t to advocate for any one player. It’s to show the different options that could be available for Lions GM Brad Holmes and his staff to consider, and what caliber of player and positional depth looks like in this class.

Lions 2022 NFL draft: A safety for every round

Lions 2022 NFL draft: A wide receiver for every round

Tight end is a little tougher. There isn’t a prospect worthy of consideration with any of the Lions’ first three picks (2, 32, 34). To keep the same format, consider the second-rounder listed here as the Lions’ pick at the top of the third. It seems very unlikely any tight ends are drafted by any team in the first 50 or so picks this year.

Colts’ pre-free agency 7-round mock draft

Before free agency starts, here’s a 7-round mock draft for the Colts.

Monday marks the start of the legal tampering period, which means the Indianapolis Colts will unofficially begin negotiating with players set to become free agents when the new league year begins on Wednesday.

What better time to do a mock draft than just before everything will change in a few days?

The Colts lead the NFL in salary-cap space but that won’t change their plans of building through the draft. It’s a core concept that general manager Chris Ballard believes is the key to sustained success even if the Colts have struggled to stay consistent in recent seasons.

How free agency goes will undoubtedly determine how the draft goes. We still have no idea who the quarterback will be and that may change the entire landscape of the draft for the Colts. Fortunately, the Colts added a few more picks after trading away Carson Wentz to the Washington Commanders.

But we’ll still do our best with what we know entering Monday’s offseason mile marker.

As the Colts enter free agency, here’s a seven-round mock draft using Pro Football Network’s mock draft simulator:

Titans select EDGE, TE in Draft Wire’s 3-round mock

Another mock draft has the Titans taking an edge rusher in Round 1.

In the latest three-round mock draft from Draft Wire’s Luke Easterling, the Tennessee Titans take an edge rusher and tight end with their first two selections in the 2022 NFL draft.

In Round 1, Easterling has Tennessee taking Michigan EDGE David Ojabo. Here’s his take on the pick for the Titans:

“Even if the Titans are able to re-sign Harold Landry, they could still use a younger edge rusher on the opposite side if Bud Dupree can’t be counted on long-term. While his Wolverine teammate Hutchinson stole the headlines, Ojabo had a dominant 2021 campaign of his own, and would be a steal this late.”

While Ojabo is no doubt an intriguing prospect after tallying 11 sacks last year, chances are the Titans won’t be in the market for an edge rusher this early — and perhaps not at all — if Harold Landry in retained.

Easterling’s second pick for the Titans is Iowa State tight end Charlie Kolar, who, in our opinion, is a much more realistic pick for Tennessee.

The Titans need an upgrade at the tight end spot, and preferably with a player who is more well-rounded than the one-dimensional options they had in 2021.

Kolar showed his receiving chops last season with 62 catches for 756 yards — both career-highs — and six touchdowns. He isn’t a flashy or explosive option by any means, but is a good outlet in the short-to-intermediate area.

The 6-foot-6, 255-pound tight end has some work to do as a blocker, but The Draft Network calls him an “active and willing participant,” which is a good start for Kolar entering the next level.
