New Orleans Saints All-Pro returns specialist Deonte Harris gave his stepfather a great Christmas gift on Saturday, announcing from his official Instagram account that he has legally changed his name to Deonte Harty. A sergeant in the Baltimore Police Department, Marlon Harty has been in Deonte’s life since he was 7 years old. Now he’s making a permanent move to honor someone who’s had a profound impact on him.

It’s really cool to see Harty sharing this special moment with his family. He’s had a difficult year, struggling with deaths in the family and his battle with depression, and bottoming out in an offseason DUI charge. He’s serving the final week of an NFL suspension for that arrest now and will rejoin the Saints for their final two regular season games.

And Harty is determined to come out the other side of this stronger. Changing his surname to tighten those familial bonds and illustrate a new direction to take his life is commendable. Saints fans should keep an eye out for No. 11 in next week’s home game with the Carolina Panthers — and be sure to call him Harty from now on, not Harris.

Mardi Gras conflict shifts next New Orleans-hosted Super Bowl to 2025

The 2024 Super Bowl was supposed to be played at the Superdome with the New Orleans Saints hosting but Mardi Gras made a scheduling conflict

The NFL’s expansion of the regular season to 17 full weeks of football has already had a couple of ripple effects, even if teams won’t begin playing that longer schedule until 2021 at the soonest.

One of the new changes has already hit the New Orleans Saints, who were slated to help host Super Bowl LVIII in 2024. With another week of the regular season tacked onto the calendar, that would have put Super Bowl Sunday in the middle of Mardi Gras (conflicting with Bacchus Sunday’s festivities, to be precise).

That’s too heavy of a logistical nightmare to reckon with, so the NFL’s ownership unanimously agreed to postpone New Orleans’ next championship (as hosts, of course) to 2025, when Super Bowl LVIV will be played. Maybe we’ll luck out and the Saints will be playing anyway.

New Orleans has hosted 10 Super Bowls, more than any other city — except for Miami, where 11 title games have kicked off. But this next Super Bowl will be New Orleans’ 11th, tying Miami’s record.

In the past, Super Bowl host cities were decided by a bidding process. Under the new NFL collective bargaining agreement, though, it’s up to the league office to choose qualifiers and then evaluate proposals on how each venue would host the game and everything that surrounds it.

While the NFL has yet to decide who will host Super Bowl LVIII, we do know where the other four championship games will be played. The full list:

  • Super Bowl LV: Raymond James Stadium, Tampa, Fla.
  • Super Bowl LVI: SoFi Stadium, Los Angeles, Cal.
  • Super Bowl LVII: State Farm Stadium, Glendale, Ariz.
  • Super Bowl LVIII: TBD
  • Super Bowl LVIV: Mercedes-Benz Superdome, New Orleans, La.

BREAKING: Kickoff time for Alabama vs. Ole Miss changed

Alabama will take on Ole Miss for week 3 of SEC action, and the time of kickoff has been moved due to a potential hurricane.

The Alabama Crimson Tide are set to take on Ole Miss in Oxford, Mississippi this Saturday, Oct. 10. While the original time was set for 5:00 pm CT, it will now begin at 6:30 pm CT.

The change in time is due to Hurricane Delta, which is set to hit the gulf coast as a category 2 storm. The path is redicted to enter Mississippi and was cause for concern between the two programs.

There was speculation of the date of the contest being moved to either Friday, or even Sunday.

Alabama Football released a new time for the Week 3 matchup via their social media.

Lane Kiffin looks to help Ole Miss improve to 2-1 in his first season as the head coach of the SEC West program and be the first former Nick Saban assistant to defeat the coach – Saban is 20-0 against former assistants.

Roll Tide Wire will keep you updated on all things Alabama football as the season continues.

Watch: Tracy Walker joins CNN to discuss change in the NFL

Detroit Lions safety Tracy Walker joined CNN’s Chris Cuomo to discuss change in the NFL and remembering his cousin Ahmaud Arbery.

Detroit Lions safety Tracy Walker joined CNN’s Chris Cuomo to discuss change in the NFL and remembering his cousin Ahmaud Arbery.

“It definitely means a lot,” Walker said of Roger Goodell’s video condemning racism and the systematic oppression of black people, “because that’s the first step, I feel like. Us all uniting as one to accomplish the common goal we are trying to reach — which is equality.”

When asked if he interpreted Goodell’s message as allowing players to protest on the sidelines of an NFL game, Walker pointed to the message indicating that collectively “we all need to be better”.

“We need change and we all see that,” Walker continued. “We all see that we’ve got to come together and basically unite as one. And like I said, if we don’t buy-in and unite as one, we’re going to continue to still go through this and so I feel like that’s kinda the step we’re taking right now.”

Walker wrapped up the interview talking about his cousin Arbery, focusing on the positives and remembering the person he was instead of how he died.

2020 Matchup Against Oklahoma State Moved

The Big 12 has announced a change in Texas’ schedule. Originally playing Oklahoma St. on Sat Nov. 28th, it has been moved to Fri Nov. 27.

The Big 12 has announced a change in Texas’ schedule, as they have moved the date of the matchup against Oklahoma State. Originally planned to be played on Saturday, Nov. 28th, it has been moved to Friday, Nov. 27.

Since the Big 12’s creation in 1996, this is the latest the Longhorns and Cowboys have played each other. Before this season, the two had only met up in the month of November nine times.

Oklahoma State will be Texas’ fifth different opponent over Thanksgiving weekend since the rivalry with Texas A&M has ended. The other teams have been Baylor, Kansas, TCU, and Texas Tech. It will also be the fifth year in a row the Longhorns will be playing on a Friday, instead of traditionally playing on Thanksgiving Day.

Both teams are projected to have great seasons and this came could have Big 12 Championship implications. Both have offensive firepower coming back with quarterback Sam Ehlinger for Texas and Chubba Hubbard and Tylan Wallace for Oklahoma State. The season finale is in store to be a good one for the Longhorns.
