Welcome to Lumen Field: Seahawks’ CenturyLink gets new name

CenturyLink Field has undergone its fourth name change – the Seattle Seahawks’ stadium will now be known as Lumun Field.

CenturyLink Field, home of the Seattle Seahawks and the Seattle Sounders FC, has undergone its fourth name change – this one just in time for the Seahawks’ prime-time, Thursday-night matchup against the Arizona Cardinals. The stadium will now be known as Lumun Field.

The name change comes after CenturyLink’s September rebranding to Lumen Technologies.

“Through a shared vision and commitment to serving the Seattle community, we are proud to enter a new era of world-class sports and entertainment with Lumen Field,” Chuck Arnold, President, Seattle Seahawks and First & Goal Inc. said in the press release. “For nearly two decades, the stadium has made its mark as a premier Seattle venue, and a place for the community to experience thrilling victories, establish sacred traditions, and witness unforgettable moments together. We are excited to build upon that legacy and experience amazing things at Lumen Field for years to come.”

The rebrand to Lumen Field is covered under the existing naming rights agreement which extends through 2033. The new signage is expected to be completed by the start of the 2021 Seahawks season.

Seahawks announce no fans will be allowed Week 11 vs. Cardinals

After discussion with local public health experts, the Seattle Seahawks have decided not to allow fans at the Nov. 19 game against Arizona.

The Seattle Seahawks released a statement on Tuesday announcing that fans will not be permitted to enter CenturyLink Field for the Nov. 19 game against the Arizona Cardinals due to a surge in COVID-19 cases in Washington state.

“Through ongoing collaboration with local public health and government officials, we have decided we will continue without fans in attendance at our home game on November 19 vs. Arizona,” the team’s official statement reads. “Should they determine conditions have improved enough for us to host fans in a limited capacity in December, we will announce those plans at a later date.”

None of the Seahawks’ four home games thus far have had fans in the stadium (all four have been wins). The Bills, Patriots, Jets, Giants, Raiders, Chargers, Rams, Bears, Packers, and 49ers also have yet to allow any fans or family to attend home games this year.

The Seahawks have three home matchups scheduled in December. They have not ruled out the possibility of letting fans attend those games in a limited capacity, but unless the rate of infection slows quickly, it is looking more and more unlikely that the 12th man will step foot into CenturyLink Field this season.

No fans allowed at CenturyLink Field when Seahawks host 49ers Week 8

As COVID-19 cases rise around the country, the Seattle Seahawks have decided no fans will be allowed in the stadium Week 8 against the 49ers.

The Seattle Seahawks made a difficult decision Thursday morning, announcing that the team’s next scheduled home game will be played without spectators in the stands due to continued concerns over the spread of the coronavirus.

The Seahawks issued the statement via their Twitter account.

“We have made the decision that our November 1 home game will move forward without fans in attendance,” the tweet read. “We will continue to keep fans updated on future decisions.”

The Seahawks are still set to host the 49ers on Sunday, November 1 at 1:25 p.m. PT at CenturyLink Field, however, the stands will be empty.

The following home games remain on Seattle’s schedule following the bout with San Francisco Week 8:

Week 13 – December 6 vs. Giants

Week 14 – December 13 vs. Jets

Week 16 – December 27 vs. Rams

When Brian Schottenheimer’s radio cuts out, it’s time to start snacking

Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer had a humorous response to his communication with Russell Wilson cutting out.

Late in the fourth quarter of the Seattle Seahawks’ Week-4 victory against the Miami Dolphins, offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer lost his radio communication with quarterback Russell Wilson one play into an offensive drive. Wilson then called his own plays on the possession, which led to a touchdown pass to David Moore.

Schottenheimer stated that his first reaction was to scramble to get the system back online as soon as possible but eventually he settled in while patiently waiting.

“The headset goes out and so of course, you initially yell at the guys that run the communication system,” Schottenheimer told reporters on Thursday. “You yell at them and say ‘what’s going on?’ Then you ask guys downstairs if there’s any communication. Then you start thinking about food. So I had these honeybee snacks, these energy snacks, all game. I heard the key lime pie was out.

“True story … I was eating my honeybees waiting for (the headset) to come back on.”

Schottenheimer got a rare chance to just watch the game without having to call any plays and likened himself to a typical fan in that sequence of events.

“I’m like everybody at that point,” he said. “I’m cheering on the guys and it doesn’t surprise me at all. We got great players. Russ is in command of things. It was cool to see those guys do that.”

The Seahawks play the Minnesota Vikings at CenturyLink Field tomorrow at 5:20 p.m. PT.

Jamal Adams alleges Cowboys players said he struggles in coverage

Seattle Seahawks safety Jamal Adams has an insider tip that Dallas Cowboys players have privately commented that he struggles in coverage.

[jwplayer XGQeKGws-ThvAeFxT]

Seattle Seahawks safety Jamal Adams is going into Week 3’s matchup against his hometown team, the Dallas Cowboys, with a chip on his shoulder. Adams alleges that a few Dallas players privately commented that he does not fare too well in coverage.

“I’ve seen a couple things, they said I struggle in coverage, so I can’t wait,” Adams said Thursday. “I got a little text from one of my buddies back home. He has the inside scoop on that. So, looking forward to it.”

However, Adams refused to reveal the identity of his insider when reporters pressed him about it but stated that he is always given the news in Dallas.

“I can’t tell you that, man,” he confessed. “C’mon. I can’t give you the nuggets like that, man. I grew up with a couple guys who are still my brothers, best friends to this day. We talk every day, group messaging. What goes on in Dallas, it always comes back to me. I always find out the scoops. So just a little edge, a little chip on my shoulder to go out there and continue to do what I’m doing. Obviously, things happen. It’s part of the game. And hey, just looking forward to the matchup.”

Adams made it clear that he is well aware of the explosive potential of the Cowboys offense but is ready to step up to the challenge.

“We’ve got our hands full,” Adams said. “It’s going to be exciting. It reminds me of Atlanta in a sense of what type of explosion they have at receiver, if that makes sense. Not comparing them, but just saying that they have some explosive guys on their side that can make a lot of plays. So we have to do a good job of doing our thing and plastering them and covering them.”

The Seahawks will play the Cowboys on Sunday, Sept. 27 at CenturyLink Field at 1:25 p.m. PT.

Seattle Seahawks vs. Dallas Cowboys: Week 3 keys to victory

The Seattle Seahawks are set to host the Dallas Cowboys Week 3 at CenturyLink Field – here are the keys to victory for each team.

[jwplayer XGQeKGws-ThvAeFxT]

The Seattle Seahawks (2-0) are set to host the Dallas Cowboys (1-1) Week 3 at CenturyLink Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:25 p.m. PT Sunday afternoon. Here are the keys to victory for each team.

Cowboys’ keys to victory

The Cowboys head north Week 3 after an incredible comeback win over the Falcons but had better not let their guards down in Seattle. Even in a stadium with no fans, the confines of CenturyLink Field can be suffocating for the visiting team.

While the Seahawks’ defensive line is a work in progress, Dallas will have to show it means business from the get-go. Quarterback Dak Prescott, who threw for 450 yards against Atlanta, will want to test Seattle’s pass-rushing abilities but won’t stand a chance unless his offensive line is able to tighten things up quickly.

Seahawks’ keys to victory

The Seahawks are coming off a wild, Week-2 win over the Patriots on the national stage and appear to be firing on all cylinders.

Seattle has been letting quarterback Russell Wilson cook and he’s likely going to do just that against the Cowboys but faces a similarly shaky offensive line as Dallas. His big guys up front have got to rein in their penalty count or it may be a long day in the kitchen for Wilson Week 3.

Seattle’s defense is not off the hook however, the Seahawks will still need some big plays to seal the deal.

Matchup to watch: Dak Prescott  vs. Seahawks secondary

The Seahawks aren’t going to let Prescott put on an air show all day in Seattle. The Seahawks need to see they got what they paid for in their secondary this season.

Who wins?

Seattle will advance to 3-0 on the year slipping by the Cowboys at home, showing Dallas the NFC West means business in 2020.

Seahawks 34, Cowboys 27.

Air quality concerns linger for Seahawks vs. Patriots Sunday

Air quality concerns still linger for the Seattle Seahawks when they take on the New England Patriots Sunday night at CenturyLink Field.

In the midst of wildfires raging all over the west coast of the United States, speculation has risen over whether air quality will be a factor in the Seattle Seahawks’ Week 2 game against the New England Patriots at CenturyLink Field.

Coach Pete Carroll told reporters Wednesday he is in communication with the NFL to determine how things will turn out on Sunday. He expressed hope that the game would proceed without complications.

“We’re in direct connection with [the NFL] and they are monitoring what’s going on as we are as well,” Carroll said. “Hopefully we get a good shift in the weather here by the weekend. It looks it could change tomorrow some and into the weekend, but we’re very cognizant of it and we’re working to figure it out.”

The Seahawks did move practice indoors on Wednesday to be safe and will likely do the same on Thursday.

Early weather reports indicate the Seattle area should be experiencing an improvement in air quality by the end of the weekend . . . just in time of the “Sunday Night Football” matchup.

We will keep you up to date on this story as it develops.

Russell Wilson is problem No. 1 for Bill Belichick and his Patriots

Patriots coach Bill Belichick has great respect for Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson calling him problem No. 1 for England on Sunday night.

The New England Patriots come to town Week 2 to square off against the Seattle Seahawks in primetime at CenturyLink Field. While there won’t be fans in the stands, there will be plenty of great action to watch on the field, namely, two quarterbacks doing what they do best.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick is preparing for just his second game with new signal-caller Cam Newton at the helm. But there is also another quarterback Belichick needs to keep a close eye on . . . Seahawks QB Russell Wilson.

“We’ve had a lot of trouble with him every time we’ve played him,” Belichick told reporters via conference call on Monday. “They beat us here in 2016. It came down to the final play, but they hung up a lot of points on us, 30-some points. He’s had a variety of backs, a variety of receivers, tight ends, offensive linemen. Each time we play them, it seems like it’s quite a different group from the time we’ve played them before, ’12 to ’14 to ’16 to now.”

Belichick and the Patriots have their work cut out for them Sunday night, as Wilson is red-hot, coming off a Week-1 win in Atlanta and earning himself the NFC’s Offensive Player of the Week honor for his efforts.

“He’s very resourceful and he has the ability to do so many things that if you take one thing away from him, he can still kill you doing other things, so that’s the mark of a great player, and he can make the other players around him better,” Belichick continued. “He consistently does that with all of them, so he’s problem No. 1.”

Seahawks monitoring air quality ahead of Sunday night against Patriots

The Seattle Seahawks are monitoring air quality ahead of Sunday night’s matchup against the New England Patriots in light of local wildfires.

The Seattle Seahawks still have another day to decide whether or not the team will practice outside along the shores of Lake Washington or head inside away from the stifling wildfire smoke.

Due to fires in state as well as in Oregon and California, Washington has been covered in a layer of dense smoke for nearly a week now. Air quality indexes have rated the air-borne toxins from unhealthy to downright hazardous, forcing most people in the area to remain in their homes.

Coach Pete Carroll is watching the forecast carefully before deciding how to practice this week.

“I’m going to wait until Wednesday see what it is, because it can change pretty quickly,” Carroll said during his Monday press conference. “We are concerned about it, and I don’t know what that means as far as what the likelihood is of practicing outside. I don’t know, we’ve got to wait and see what the numbers are. We’re going to take care of our guys first, so whatever’s best, we’ll do that.”

Initial forecasts had predicted cleansing rains for Tuesday, however, there doesn’t seem to be much improvement in the air as of this post. The latest models are now pointing towards the end of the week for clearer air.

“We won’t practice outside just to practice outside,” Carroll continued. “If it’s better inside, we’ll do that. We did that on Friday last week to take advantage of a better setting here, and we’ll just see how it goes.”

The Seahawks have an off day Tuesday and will return to (an indoor or outdoor) practice Wednesday morning.
