Russell Wilson is problem No. 1 for Bill Belichick and his Patriots

Patriots coach Bill Belichick has great respect for Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson calling him problem No. 1 for England on Sunday night.

The New England Patriots come to town Week 2 to square off against the Seattle Seahawks in primetime at CenturyLink Field. While there won’t be fans in the stands, there will be plenty of great action to watch on the field, namely, two quarterbacks doing what they do best.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick is preparing for just his second game with new signal-caller Cam Newton at the helm. But there is also another quarterback Belichick needs to keep a close eye on . . . Seahawks QB Russell Wilson.

“We’ve had a lot of trouble with him every time we’ve played him,” Belichick told reporters via conference call on Monday. “They beat us here in 2016. It came down to the final play, but they hung up a lot of points on us, 30-some points. He’s had a variety of backs, a variety of receivers, tight ends, offensive linemen. Each time we play them, it seems like it’s quite a different group from the time we’ve played them before, ’12 to ’14 to ’16 to now.”

Belichick and the Patriots have their work cut out for them Sunday night, as Wilson is red-hot, coming off a Week-1 win in Atlanta and earning himself the NFC’s Offensive Player of the Week honor for his efforts.

“He’s very resourceful and he has the ability to do so many things that if you take one thing away from him, he can still kill you doing other things, so that’s the mark of a great player, and he can make the other players around him better,” Belichick continued. “He consistently does that with all of them, so he’s problem No. 1.”
