LOOK: Fans react to news of Alabama moving on from Eli Gold

Eli Gold will not be brought back as the voice of Alabama football and fans are sharing their thoughts.

Eli Gold has been the voice of Alabama football for the last 35 years, but that run has come to an end, as Chris Stewart of the Crimson Tide Sports Network is expected to take over the radio broadcast.

The news comes just over a month after legendary head coach Nick Saban announced his retirement, but Gold made it clear that he is not retiring. It seems as if the university has decided to move on from Gold beginning with the 2024 season.

Fans were quick to take to social media to share their thoughts on the news and remember their favorite moments from his time in the booth.

Eli Gold will no longer be on the radio broadcast for Alabama Football

After 35 years as the voice of Alabama Football, Eli Gold will no longer be calling Crimson Tide games on the radio.

For the last 35 years, Crimson Tide fans have found comfort and excitement in the voice of Eli Gold. The native of Brooklyn has been the voice of Alabama football since 1988, but he will be stepping down from the role, according to a report by Nick Kelly and Chase Goodbread of the Tuscaloosa news.

Gold, now 70 years old, departs from the program not too long after legendary head coach Nick Saban announced his retirement. Gold still plans on staying on the radio, he just won’t be on the call for the Tide.

According to Kelly and Goodbread, Gold will be active over the airwaves, as he will be calling games for Nashville’s professional arena football team, the Kats, in the spring and summer

The 2022 season was spent with Chris Stewart on the radio call in place of Gold after he had to step aside due to medical reasons. It was later revealed that Gold had battled cancer. Last season, in 2023, Gold was back on the call for Alabama’s home games, but it was Stewart who broadcasted when the team played on the road.

When speaking with Michael Casagrande of AL.com, Gold made it clear that he is in good health and that this was not his decision.

“Well, the university has chosen not to bring me back,” Gold said. “This is not, with a capital N-O-T, not at all health-related. I am very healthy. Everything is wonderful. I am healthy as a horse.”

Additionally, Gold has stated that he is not retiring and had plans on calling Alabama’s A-Day spring game and the upcoming season.

“I was originally told that I was going to do A-Day and they have now reconsidered on that,” Gold said, “and they’re just going to make a clean break. But they will honor their contract through the end of June.”

Stewart’s voice should be familiar to Alabama fans, as he is the play-by-play broadcaster for basketball on the Crimson Tide Sports Network. The Tuscaloosa News report states that Stewart is “likely to take over the role” left behind by Gold.

How to watch, wager, and stream Week 17’s Saints vs. Buccaneers showdown

Here’s the big one. The New Orleans Saints (7-8) could be eliminated from playoff contention with a loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (8-7) on Sunday if a couple of other games don’t break their way — too many early-season defeats to rival teams in the wild-card race have set the Saints too far behind the eight ball.

The stakes couldn’t be higher, and we’ve got everything you need to know about the game. Here’s how you can watch, wager, stream, and listen in through the radio:

Saints vs. Bears: How to watch, listen and stream Week 9 game

Week 9 is here, with the New Orleans Saints (4-4) looking to continue their yearslong win streak against the Chicago Bears (2-6) in front of a home crowd on Sunday afternoon. The Saints haven’t lost to the Bears since 2008, and they’re undefeated in New Orleans against Chicago dating back to 1991.

But this isn’t a matchup they can take lightly. The Saints have lost winnable games this season due to mental mistakes and playing too much poor football. Here’s everything you need to know so you can tune in for Sunday’s game:

Colts vs. Saints: How to watch, stream and listen in Week 8

Here’s all the game information for the Week 8 matchup.

The Indianapolis Colts (3-4) are set to host the New Orleans Saints (3-4) on Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium.

This Week 8 matchup will be a crucial one for both sides. Both teams are currently looking to avoid a three-game losing streak. The Colts have lost three of their last four games while the Saints have lost four of their last five.

Here’s all the information you need heading into this Week 8 matchup:

The New Orleans Saints are on their way to Indianapolis to take on the Colts in the Week 8 matchup. Both teams are 3-4 and desperately need to walk away from this weekend with a victory to set their season straight.

The Saints are still only a game back from first place in the division, while the Colts have some extra room to make up before catching the Jacksonville Jaguars. This is the Saints third straight game against the AFC South, coming off of two straight losses. The Colts have not yet faced an NFC South team this season.

Indianapolis coming off of a 39-38 loss, while the Saints offense is struggling to score at all.

Here’s how you can tune into the Week 3 matchup on Sunday:

Chiefs celebrate 30 years of play-by-play announcer Mitch Holthus

The #Chiefs celebrated Mitch Holthus’ 30-year anniversary behind the microphone in Kansas City on Tuesday.

Kansas City Chiefs football isn’t nearly as exciting when it is not being called by world-renowned radio broadcaster Mitch Holthus. His iconic “Touchdown Kan-sas City” tagline is beloved by Chiefs fans everywhere, and the team celebrated 30 years with Holthus on the microphone on Tuesday.

Some of the most memorable plays in Chiefs history were narrated by Holthus’ golden voice, and with any luck, fans in Kansas City will continue hearing his broadcasts for another 30 years.

Holthus is a native of Fort Lewis, Washington but attended college at Kansas State in Manhattan. Originally known as the “Voice of the Wildcats”, Holthus started his career with the Chiefs in 1994 and is the longest-tenured play-by-play broadcaster in team history.

Kansas City would be lost without Holthus’ excitement on gameday, and the 30-year milestone he achieved with the team on Tuesday is plenty to celebrate for fans who can’t get enough of his archetypal calls.

Broncos Wire discusses Sean Payton, fantasy football and more on SiriusXM

Broncos Wire’s Brandon Walker discussed Sean Payton, Russell Wilson and more Broncos topics on SiriusXM Fantasy Sports Radio.

Broncos Wire contributor Brandon Walker recently joined Josh Wagner and his crew on SiriusXM Fantasy Sports Radio for a discussion about the 2023 Denver Broncos on the High Stakes Fantasy Advantage show.

At the beginning, the topic centered on head coach Sean Payton’s Denver arrival and how he may be able to restore quarterback Russell Wilson to his former play.

After that, the topics shifted to fantasy football. The hosts asked about running back Javonte William’s stunning progress from his devastating knee injury in 2022, wide receiver Jerry Jeudy’s evolving role in the Broncos’ offense, the decline of targets going to veteran receiver Courtland Sutton, and how second-year tight end Greg Dulcich may become a quintessential target for Wilson in 2023.

Jerry Jones says Cowboys playoff run won’t impact Mike McCarthy’s job security

Jerry Jones says the Cowboys’ upcoming playoff run won’t impact Mike McCarthy’s job security, which could influence the Sean Payton sweepstakes:

You would think back-to-back losses in critical situations might doom Mike McCarthy, but the Dallas Cowboys head coach appears to be safe regardless of how this year’s playoff push goes down. That’s big news with all of the buzz surrounding former New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton, who has been linked to the Cowboys for years and is finally available for a trade.

What leads us to believe McCarthy is safe? Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said as much. Jones was emphatic in his support of his head coach during his weekly radio spot on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas-Fort Worth.

“No. I don’t even want to,” Jones paused when asked whether a first-round exit may put McCarthy’s job in jeopardy, continuing: “No. That’s it. I don’t need to get into all the plusses or minuses. I’ve got a lot more to evaluate (McCarthy) on than this playoff game.”

So that’s what he’s saying. We’ll see if his actions line up later. The Cowboys are scheduled to kick off with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers next Monday night with everyone watching, and they’re hoping to advance to the next round for the first time since 2018’s playoffs. If they win, it will have been just their third playoff victory over the last decade.

But as Jones pointed out, he’s considering more here than playoffs success. McCarthy has guided the Cowboys to double-digit wins in back-to-back seasons for the first time since Troy Aikman was their quarterback, which is impressive. Poor luck in the playoffs won’t undo that.

Still, you have to question how committed Jones may be to that stance with Payton finally available after all these years. If things don’t go his way in the wild-card round, he might get desperate and reverse course. Maybe. We’ll have to wait and see how this plays out, but for now it doesn’t look like the Cowboys will be big players in Payton’s sweepstakes.
