Jets Week 15 injury report: Jason Brownlee out, Carter Warren doubtful

WR Jason Brownlee is out and offensive tackle Carter Warren is doubtful for Week 15 against the Dolphins.

The Jets released their injury report and game statuses Friday for their Week 15 matchup against the Miami Dolphins. Two players — QB Aaron Rodgers and WR Jason Brownlee — are listed as out. With Rodgers practicing, he has been listed on the injury report but has yet to be activated from injured reserve. The Jets have until Wednesday to do so.

Rodgers was listed as a limited participant Thursday and Friday and was even starting to push his practice habits a little. Brownlee did not practice all week with an ankle injury.

Offensive tackle Carter Warren is doubtful for Sunday with a hip injury. After missing Week 14 against the Houston Texans, Warren did not practice all week, likely causing him to miss another game. Max Mitchell would get another start at right tackle if Warren cannot go…if Mitchell plays himself. Mitchell is questionable with a neck injury. He was limited all week.

Also listed as questionable for the Jets: DE John Franklin-Myers (ankle), FB Nick Bawden (knee), C Joe Tippmann (shoulder) and DE Will McDonald (knee). Franklin-Myers, Bawden and Tippmann all practiced in full Friday while McDonald was a late add Friday with a knee injury and did not practice.

Quarterback Zach Wilson was on the report with a knee injury but practiced in full all week. He is good to go for Sunday.

For the Dolphins, safety DeShon Elliott (concussion) and guard Robert Hunt (hamstring) are both out. Wide receiver Tyreek Hill highlights the questionable Dolphins as he did not practice all week with an ankle injury.

Also listed as questionable for the Dolphins: RB De’Von Achane (toe), OT Terron Armstead (knee/ankle), OL Liam Eichenberg (calf), FS Jevon Holland (knees), CB Xavien Howard (hip), OT Austin Jackson (oblique) and OLB Andrew Van Ginkel (oblique). All were listed as limited participants Friday.

Jets Week 14 inactives: Carter Warren out as Jets will have another starting line combination

Two starting linemen from Week 13 are out for Week 14 (and beyond in Wes Schweitzer’s case)

Two starters on the offensive line from last week are out this week against the Houston Texans.

The Jets had placed right guard Wes Schweitzer on injured reserve Saturday. They will now be without right tackle Carter Warren, who was deemed inactive for Sunday.

As a result, the Jets will be starting their 10th different offensive line combination this season in their 13th game.

Also inactive is Jason Brownlee, who was ruled out Friday. Expect Allen Lazard to again see an increased role as a result.

Here is the full list of inactives for Sunday.

Wes Schweitzer out, Carter Warren questionable as Jets set to start 9th straight game with different line combination

With Wes Schweitzer out and Carter Warren questionable, the Jets could start their 9th straight game with a different line combination.

The Jets just can’t catch a break when it comes to injuries on the offensive line. Two players who started Week 13 against the Falcons are hurt and have a game designation for Week 14 against the Texans.

Guard Wes Schweitzer, who had just returned from a calf injury, is out Sunday after seemingly re-aggravating the injury.

In addition, a new injury popped up Friday as rookie Carter Warren was limited Friday with a hip injury. Warren has started the last two weeks between left and right tackle.

With the injuries, Week 14 will mark the ninth straight game with a different offensive line combination for the Jets. The last game the Jets played with the same line as the week before was Week 5 against the Denver Broncos — the combo of Mekhi Becton, Laken Tomlinson, Connor McGovern, Joe Tippmann and Alijah Vera-Tucker had started for the third week in a row before Vera-Tucker suffered his season-ending Achilles injury.

This also could mean the 10th different starting line this season for the Jets. If Warren can’t play, could the Jets put Duane Brown back at left tackle and move Becton to right?

Just like last season, the Jets have been crushed with offensive line injuries. Head coach Robert Saleh praised the work of all the offensive linemen especially after the constant shuffling of the group.

“Last year was carnage, and I don’t know if there’s another word for it, but you know what I do want to say this about our o-line. The guys are working their tails off,” Saleh said. “There’s a lot of guys who are taking the field who just got here, and learning a scheme, and grinding to try to put their best foot forward and put together good tape. So, a lot of credit to those guys.

“Guys moving all over the line of scrimmage. Carter Warren’s going from left to right, you got [Joe] Tippmann going from guard to center. You got Iron Man on the left guard has been getting better every week with Laken [Tomlinson] and then of course, just all the way across the board and it’s credit to them, love the five we have lining up. Think they have a chance to be pretty good. Just need to get them some continuity so they can figure out how to work together and become the group that we think they can be.”

6 Jets to watch in Week 14 vs. Texans

Here are six players from the Jets to watch in the team’s Week 14 matchup against the Texans.

The New York Jets are looking to end a five-game skid in Week 14 against a Houston Texans team that owns a 7-5 record. The big news for the Jets is they are making another change at the quarterback position, going back to Zach Wilson.

After releasing Tim Boyle and bringing in Brett Rypien, the Jets intend to start Wilson for the rest of the season. The idea of Aaron Rodgers returning this season is no longer a thing, so everyone is playing for their job down the stretch.

Ahead of Sunday’s matchup against the Texans, here are six players to watch on the Jets.

Players and personnel decisions Jets should make in season’s final quarter

A look at four players that should either see more playing time or at least a small piece of evaluation in the final five games of the season.

The Jets have five games left in the season and at 4-8, their hopes for the playoffs are all but gone. The team doesn’t even know who their starting quarterback will be for Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans. At this point, the Jets want to try and finish strong for team morale reasons, but it may also be time to start looking ahead to 2024 and what the roster could look like.

Because of that, the Jets have some players who deserve to see more playing time, even if it’s just for 2024 evaluation purposes. We’ll take a look at some of those players and personnel options the Jets should consider looking at in the homestretch of the season.

Jets promote two cornerbacks, place Justin Hardee on IR in group of roster moves Saturday

Jets promote two cornerbacks, place Justin Hardee on IR in group of roster moves Saturday

The Jets called up a pair of cornerbacks Saturday and activated one from injured reserve while placing one on injured reserve.

The Jets called up cornerbacks Craig James and Ke’Montae Hayes from the practice squad. As it turned out, the Jets really needed the depth as they will now be without both of their starting cornerbacks in Sauce Gardner and D.J. Reed, both out with a concussion.

Also on Saturday, the Jets activated rookie offensive tackle Carter Warren from injured reserve while placing special teams ace Justin Hardee on injured reserve with a hamstring injury that will sideline him about 4-6 weeks.

Hardee sustained the injury last Sunday and then aggravated it during practice this week. He underwent surgery Friday.

Jets get fourth-round tackle Carter Warren under contract

Jets now with five draft picks signed.

The Jets announced the signing of their fourth-round pick, offensive tackle Carter Warren.

The No. 120 pick in the draft out of Pittsburgh was the second offensive lineman the Jets took in the draft following second-round center Joe Tippmann out of Wisconsin.

With Warren under contract, the Jets have five of their seven draft picks officially signed. Only their first two picks, No. 15 overall pick Will McDonald IV and Tippmann remain unsigned.

Warren is expected to serve as a depth piece as a rookie but could eventually compete for a starting spot.

Logan Paulsen wonders if Commanders should have drafted a couple of offensive tackles

Paulsen offers his excellent analysis of the Commanders’ draft and questions the team’s decision not to take a true offensive tackle.

Former Washington tight end Logan Paulsen raised a legitimate question with Craig Hoffman Thursday on the “Take Command Podcast.”

Paulsen reminded listeners that Ohio State offensive tackle Dawand Jones was still available when the Commanders went on the clock for the 97th selection late in round three of last week’s 2023 NFL draft.

“My question is, is the risk of that player worth the 97th pick for a guy who has top-five talent, when and if he is in shape and he is ready to play football?”

Paulsen raised the question because the Commanders looking for an offensive tackle had all four top prospects taken by the time they selected at 16. Jones was there at 97 when the Commanders determined to not take the huge offensive tackle, selecting instead Arkansas center Ricky Stromberg.

Paulsen spoke to one of his NFL friends who conveyed to Paulsen that their staff had removed Jones from their board entirely.

“They (Commanders) like bigger centers, and Stromberg is more their type. This is not an indictment of Stromberg in any way. I think Stromberg is an excellent football player. But I tend to value tackle more than I value center.”

Paulsen also questioned the Commanders selecting Utah G/T Braeden Daniels at 118 when Pittsburgh tackle Carter Warren was available and taken two picks later. Prior to his ACL injury last season, Paulsen said Warren was projected by several to be a top 60 pick.

Do you get what Paulsen is saying? Offensive tackles being much more important, carry more value. Therefore, twice Washington could have taken a higher-upside tackle at either 97 or 118 and decided to go with a safer selection both times.

Paulsen continued, “There is a history with big offensive tackles with weight issues in college continuing to have weight issues in the pros. Paulsen expressed that Jones at the Senior Bowl came in at 370 and looked like a top-five offensive tackle.

But Paulsen also said that Jones in the season had gotten up to 420 pounds “and looked enormous.” If he “stays down at 370, it’s a party now. So Paulsen asked does 420 pound Jones have more upside than Braeden Daniels.

He also pointed out Jones was to come in for a 30-visit, but it fell through. Paulsen said he was not altogether certain but willing to wager a lot of money that Jones was again really out of shape, and they (Commanders) wanted to get him on the scales.

Craig Hoffman offered a logical, direct point when declaring, “I’d rather trust Braeden Daniels to put on 15 pounds than Jones to lose 30 pounds…it’s a no-brainer.”

Here is the entire segment; its worth the listen.

Meet the Jets draft class for 2023

Your 2023 Jets picks

The New York Jets have wrapped up their 2023 NFL Draft and wound up with seven picks overall after a couple of trades on Day 3. The Jets added help along the offensive line, getting after the quarterback and a big target late. Here’s the Jets’ draft class for 2023.

Instant analysis of Jets selecting Pitt OT Carter Warren

Thoughts on Carter Warren?

The Jets get their offensive tackle addition in this draft by adding Carter Warren, offensive tackle from Pittsburgh, at No. 120. Warren is the second offensive lineman taken by the Jets in this draft, along with Wisconsin center Joe Tippmann at No. 43.

Carter is already going to be a local fan favorite. He is from Paterson, New Jersey, which is just 20 minutes from MetLife Stadium, and grew up as a Jets fan. He brings a good frame to the Jets’ offensive line. He measured 6-foot-5 and 316 pounds at his pro day. He’ll start as a solid depth swing tackle for the Jets with potential to become a starter down the line.

Warren started all but one game he played in. He missed the final nine games of last season with a knee injury but in total started 39 games. After his selection by the Jets, Warren said he is fully recovered from that knee injury.

Warren is a physical player and a good pass blocker. One of his weaknesses is the number of penalties he accumulated over his college career (11 penalties, including eight false starts, via Dane Brugler of The Athletic). He’s also already 24 years old.

Still, Warren has the tools to develop into a potential starter and be a solid backup early. It’s possible he competes at right tackle as a rookie, but he’ll likely be below Mekhi Becton and Max Mitchell to begin. But there is some potential here with his frame and ability, along with his physicality. This is a solid pick for the Jets.
