Wes Schweitzer out, Carter Warren questionable as Jets set to start 9th straight game with different line combination

With Wes Schweitzer out and Carter Warren questionable, the Jets could start their 9th straight game with a different line combination.

The Jets just can’t catch a break when it comes to injuries on the offensive line. Two players who started Week 13 against the Falcons are hurt and have a game designation for Week 14 against the Texans.

Guard Wes Schweitzer, who had just returned from a calf injury, is out Sunday after seemingly re-aggravating the injury.

In addition, a new injury popped up Friday as rookie Carter Warren was limited Friday with a hip injury. Warren has started the last two weeks between left and right tackle.

With the injuries, Week 14 will mark the ninth straight game with a different offensive line combination for the Jets. The last game the Jets played with the same line as the week before was Week 5 against the Denver Broncos — the combo of Mekhi Becton, Laken Tomlinson, Connor McGovern, Joe Tippmann and Alijah Vera-Tucker had started for the third week in a row before Vera-Tucker suffered his season-ending Achilles injury.

This also could mean the 10th different starting line this season for the Jets. If Warren can’t play, could the Jets put Duane Brown back at left tackle and move Becton to right?

Just like last season, the Jets have been crushed with offensive line injuries. Head coach Robert Saleh praised the work of all the offensive linemen especially after the constant shuffling of the group.

“Last year was carnage, and I don’t know if there’s another word for it, but you know what I do want to say this about our o-line. The guys are working their tails off,” Saleh said. “There’s a lot of guys who are taking the field who just got here, and learning a scheme, and grinding to try to put their best foot forward and put together good tape. So, a lot of credit to those guys.

“Guys moving all over the line of scrimmage. Carter Warren’s going from left to right, you got [Joe] Tippmann going from guard to center. You got Iron Man on the left guard has been getting better every week with Laken [Tomlinson] and then of course, just all the way across the board and it’s credit to them, love the five we have lining up. Think they have a chance to be pretty good. Just need to get them some continuity so they can figure out how to work together and become the group that we think they can be.”
