Jets offensive PFF grades from 30-0 loss vs. Dolphins

Jets offensive PFF grades from 30-0 loss vs. Dolphins

The New York Jets laid a big egg Sunday. After a 30-6 win over the Houston Texans in Week 14, all seemed right in the world again. Then Week 15 happened. The Jets had the doors blown off in Miami, losing 30-0 and seeing their playoff hopes officially fade away.

The grades are in from Pro Football Focus and we’ll take a look at some of the offensive grades from Week 15.

Instant analysis as Jets’ season comes to poetic end after 30-0 loss to Dolphins

So much for any sort of momentum the Jets built after their 30-6 win in Week 14. The playoff drought continues.

So much for any sort of momentum the Jets built after their 30-6 win in Week 14. So much for any chance of Aaron Rodgers returning this season. So much for any little chance the Jets had at the playoffs. It’s all gone after the Jets were embarrassed in Miami after a 30-0 loss to the Dolphins to fall to 5-9 on the season.

With three games left, the Jets are very likely going to finish with a worse record than last year’s 7-10 finish. With how bad things went this season, Week 15 was almost a prophetic way for the Jets to officially extend their playoff drought to 13 seasons — the Browns and Texans winning knocked the Jets out.

Here’s your instant analysis, as much as we can pull from a 30-0 loss.

Jets Week 15 injury report: Jason Brownlee out, Carter Warren doubtful

WR Jason Brownlee is out and offensive tackle Carter Warren is doubtful for Week 15 against the Dolphins.

The Jets released their injury report and game statuses Friday for their Week 15 matchup against the Miami Dolphins. Two players — QB Aaron Rodgers and WR Jason Brownlee — are listed as out. With Rodgers practicing, he has been listed on the injury report but has yet to be activated from injured reserve. The Jets have until Wednesday to do so.

Rodgers was listed as a limited participant Thursday and Friday and was even starting to push his practice habits a little. Brownlee did not practice all week with an ankle injury.

Offensive tackle Carter Warren is doubtful for Sunday with a hip injury. After missing Week 14 against the Houston Texans, Warren did not practice all week, likely causing him to miss another game. Max Mitchell would get another start at right tackle if Warren cannot go…if Mitchell plays himself. Mitchell is questionable with a neck injury. He was limited all week.

Also listed as questionable for the Jets: DE John Franklin-Myers (ankle), FB Nick Bawden (knee), C Joe Tippmann (shoulder) and DE Will McDonald (knee). Franklin-Myers, Bawden and Tippmann all practiced in full Friday while McDonald was a late add Friday with a knee injury and did not practice.

Quarterback Zach Wilson was on the report with a knee injury but practiced in full all week. He is good to go for Sunday.

For the Dolphins, safety DeShon Elliott (concussion) and guard Robert Hunt (hamstring) are both out. Wide receiver Tyreek Hill highlights the questionable Dolphins as he did not practice all week with an ankle injury.

Also listed as questionable for the Dolphins: RB De’Von Achane (toe), OT Terron Armstead (knee/ankle), OL Liam Eichenberg (calf), FS Jevon Holland (knees), CB Xavien Howard (hip), OT Austin Jackson (oblique) and OLB Andrew Van Ginkel (oblique). All were listed as limited participants Friday.

Jets’ playoff elimination scenarios for Week 15

The Jets’ very slim playoff hopes could officially end with the right results Sunday.

Their playoff hopes are already hanging on by a thread and now there are actual scenarios that can play out that would officially eliminate the Jets from playoff contention in Week 15.

The good news for the Jets is that just a standalone loss to the Dolphins Sunday would not eliminate them. But if the right combination of results happens with a loss to Miami, then the season would officially be over for New York.

Courtesy of NFL Playoff Scenarios, 12 potential scenarios would eliminate the Jets. All 12 involve the Jets losing and then a combination of wins or ties by other teams.

Here are those 12 scenarios:

1. Jets loss + Bills win + Colts win
2. Jets loss + Bills win + Steelers win
3. Jets loss + Bills win + Texans win/tie
4. Jets loss + Bills win + Bengals win/tie
5. Jets loss + Bills tie + Broncos win + Chargers win
6. Jets loss + Colts win + Bengals win + Texans win/tie
7. Jets loss + Browns win/tie + Colts win + Bengals win
8. Jets loss + Browns win/tie + Steelers win + Texans win
9. Jets loss + Browns win/tie + Steelers win + Texans tie + Broncos win + Raiders win
10. Jets loss + Browns win/tie + Steelers tie + Bengals win/tie + Texans win/tie
11. Jets loss + Browns win/tie + Steelers tie + Bengals win/tie + Broncos win + Raiders win
12. Jets loss + Steelers tie + Texans win/tie + Broncos win + Raiders win

The games involved in these scenarios:

Jets at Dolphins, 1:00 Sunday
Cowboys at Bills, 4:25 Sunday
Steelers at Colts, 4:30 Saturday
Texans at Titans, 1:00 Sunday
Vikings at Bengals, 1:00 Saturday
Broncos at Lions, 8:15, Saturday
Chargers at Raiders, 8:15 Thursday
Bears at Browns, 1:00 Sunday

Since the Steelers and Colts play Saturday, as long as there is a winner in that game, the scenario simply becomes a loss plus a Bills win Sunday would eliminate the Jets. The bottom line is the Jets have just about no chance and any faint hope could end Sunday.

Idea of first Black Friday game in New York helped Jets land historic game

Football and shopping together in New York makes perfect sense on Black Friday

The Jets will host the Miami Dolphins in the first ever game to take place on Black Friday. The game is set for a 3:00 kickoff and will be streamed on Amazon Prime Video.

Amazon ended up liking the idea of having the game in New York, the No. 1 retail location in America, on a day that is all about shopping. That plus the addition of quarterback Aaron Rodgers helped make the Jets a very viable option for this game.

The league was also considering Steelers at Bengals for the game. In fact, the Bengals offered to be featured annually on Black Friday, just like the Lions and Cowboys traditionally play on Thanksgiving.

In the end, the Rodgers effect came through again for the Jets and is why they will help make history in the NFL as the first home team for a Black Friday game.

Jets will host Dolphins in NFL’s first Black Friday game

Jets-Dolphins on Black Friday

The New York Jets will help the NFL make history this season as they will take part in the league’s first game ever on Black Friday.

The league announced Wednesday a matchup between the Jets and the Miami Dolphins at MetLife Stadium at 3:00 eastern on November 24. The game will be streamed on Amazon Prime Video.

With Aaron Rodgers joining the Jets, the national exposure for the team was going to increase tremendously. We now know at least one such national exposure for the Jets and it will come against Tua Tagovailoa and the Dolphins in a matchup of two potentially strong offenses and two really strong defenses.

The Jets and Dolphins split their season series in 2022, with each team winning at home.

The full schedule will be released Thursday night.

We have reached the final week of the 2022 NFL season with games only on Saturday and Sunday in Week 18. In Week 17, only 4 underdogs won their games outright, but 8 dogs covered the spread.

Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s NFL odds and lines, and tab the best NFL Week 18 underdog bets to cash in on among SportbookWire’s NFL expert picks and predictions.

Of my 3 best underdog picks last week, 2 were correct. The Denver Broncos covered the spread against the Kansas City Chiefs and the Cleveland Browns beat the Washington Commanders outright. The Tennessee Titans did not cover against the Dallas Cowboys.

With last week, my picks are 24-27 on the season.

NEW YORK JETS (+115) at Miami Dolphins – 1 p.m. (FOX)

In a battle of 2 teams with 5-game losing streaks, I like the Jets. QB Mike White starts for the Jets, but the Dolphins aren’t sure who will start for them. QB Tua Tagovailoa is still recovering from a concussion and backup QB Teddy Bridgewater hurt his finger and couldn’t throw the ball to start the week.

The Dolphins have allowed 27.4 points per game in their losing streak. But that is paired with a Jets team that has averaged only 12 in their losing streak.

Something has to give and the New York defense will take advantage of the quarterback issues for Miami.

CLEVELAND BROWNS (+120) at Pittsburgh Steelers – 1 p.m. (CBS)

The Browns have won 4 of their last 6 games and the defense has allowed only 14.0 points per game in that stretch.

The Steelers only average 17.5 points per game. They have won 3 straight and 5 of 6 but are only averaging 18.3 points per game in that stretch.

The Browns can spoil the Steelers streak of consecutive seasons without a losing record.

TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS +4 (-109) Atlanta Falcons – 1 p.m. (FOX)

Tampa Bay coach Todd Bowles is not planning on resting his starters although they could get pulled early. They have the No. 4 seed locked up but need to play better before the playoffs start and likely don’t want to end the regular season with a losing record.

The Falcons have only 2 wins in their last 8 games and those 2 wins came against a 3-win Chicago Bears team and a 4-win Arizona Cardinals team. They beat the Cardinals 20-19 last week on a last-second field goal and have not won a game by more than 3 points since Week 6.

Oddsmakers think little of Jets in sudden matchup vs. Dolphins

The Jets enter Week 6 as underdogs against the Miami Dolphins.

The Jets were thrown a bit of curveball for their Week 6 matchup, as Gang Green will now face the Dolphins instead of the Chargers due to the NFL reshuffling it’s schedule after a number of positive COVID-19 tests.

New York has allowed 161 points through five weeks and is set to face a Miami team that just put up 43 points on San Francisco. The 49ers beat the Jets, 31-13, in Week 2 with a number of backups filling in for injured starters.

Coming into the season, the Jets and Dolphins were projected to be neck and neck for last place in the AFC East. Instead, the Dolphins are 2-3 and they were competitive in their losses against three potential playoff teams in the Patriots, Bills and Seahawks. On the other hand, the Jets have held a lead in just one game this season, and they didn’t maintain it.

After ditching Adam Gase for Brian Flores, the Dolphins are at a much better place from a personnel and coaching standpoint than their division counterparts. So it’s no surprise that oddsmakers view Miami as eight-point favorites this week, according to BetMGM.

The total over-under for Sunday’s game is set at 47.5 points with the Dolphins holding at -106 and the Jets holding at -115. New York possesses a money line of +305 at an eight-point disadvantage. Against the spread, both teams hold the same odds at -110.

Last season, the Jets were fortunate enough to split the season series with Miami. In early December, New York barely eeked out a 22-21 victory on a Sam Ficken game-winning field goal, which was set up by a questionable call. The Jets will need some of that luck to carry over on Sunday.
