Seahawks WR DK Metcalf still sore, but hoping to play vs. Giants

Seattle Seahawks receiver DK Metcalf is battling a patellar tendon injury that won’t require surgery but his timeline for return is unknown.

Seattle Seahawks fans got quite a scare on Sunday when super-star wide receiver DK Metcalf left the game in the first quarter with what turned out to be a patellar tendon injury.

Fortunately, the MRI confirmed Metcalf would not need surgery but his timeline for return remains a question mark.

“I don’t know about when he can get back, I don’t really have a clue on that one,” Carroll said during his Monday press conference. I know that he is really anxious to try to make his way back. In his mind, he wants to practice Wednesday. I don’t know if that’s even possible. He’s still pretty sore today, but because there is no immediate process to go through as far as surgeries and stuff like that, they have to see how he responds to treatment and see what happens.

“I’m sorry that I don’t have any more specifics for you, that’s why I’m being really vague.”

The Seahawks are scheduled to play the Giants this weekend and Carroll was pressed as to whether or not Metcalf would be ruled out.

“I don’t know that, I’m going to leave it wide open on that one,” Carroll explained. “I know what he wants to do, so I’m going to kind of follow him a little bit on this one. I’m sorry, I can’t call it. Give us a couple of days to let it cool down and see what’s going on. He won’t get extensive work on Wednesday regardless. We are going to take care of him, make sure that we are doing the right thing, and we will just see.

“Unfortunately, we don’t know.”

After injury scare, Darrell Taylor may have a chance to play Week 7

Following an injury scare on the field in Pittsburgh, Seahawks DE Darrell Taylor may have a chance to play Week 7 against the Saints.

Seattle Seahawks defensive end Darrell Taylor was down on the field for nearly 15 minutes before he was carted off the field Sunday night in Pittsburgh. The scare was that Taylor had sustained a significant neck injury during the Week 6 contest.

Less than 24 hours later, coach Pete Carroll had nothing but good news to share Monday afternoon.

“His MRI stuff was clear, his CAT scan stuff was clear, and he does not have a neck injury,” Carroll told reporters. “He got jammed pretty good so we have to see what it’s like, but it may be more in his shoulder as we figure it out. He’s not out of the woods of playing this week so that’s a thrilling response to what it looked like and what everybody could have anticipated. We will see how it goes and he has to have a good week to do that.”

Taylor, and the rest of the Seahawks squad, have an extra day to recuperate this week as their next game isn’t scheduled until Monday night when they’ll host the Saints at Lumen Field.

“We will see what happens, but it was a really good report,” Carroll continued. “I know a lot of people were upset about that, for good reason, whenever they take a guy off like that, the threat is huge. Anyway, he came out great, so we will hope for the best and he may have a chance to go this week.”

Preliminary neck CT scans are clear for Seahawks DE Darrell Taylor

The preliminary neck CT scans on Seattle Seahawks defensive end Darrell Taylor are clear, but there are more tests to be done.

Seattle Seahawks fans can breathe a sigh of relief . . .  the preliminary CT scans on defensive end Darrell Taylor’s neck have come back clear.

Taylor was carted off the field with a neck injury late in the game Sunday night during the Seahawks’ Week 6 contest against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Immediately following the loss, coach Pete Carroll was able to provide an early update from the medical team on Taylor’s tests.

“The preliminary – I’m giving you the preliminary because I usually don’t do this but I want to give you something positive – they were clear,” Carroll told reporters. “The CT scans were clear. So, that’s a really good preliminary report for you.

“There are more tests to be done and stuff like that so we are thrilled about the news.”

Carroll should have further information by his morning radio interview on Monday.

Seahawks defensive end Branden Jackson had quite the scare over the weekend when he was knocked unconscious during Seattle’s mock game at CenturyLink Field.

While Jackson was carted off the field and taken to the hospital straight from the scrimmage, he was able to return to the Virginia Mason Athletic Center to start the work week and attend the team meetings.

Coach Pete Carroll did tell reporters, however, that Jackson would be undergoing further testing just to be on the safe side.

“There’s some concerns that they’re going to check out to make sure we’re really clear on, so it’s going to take us little bit of time,” Carroll said via Zoom on Monday. “We’re going to be very deliberate about taking time. Any time you get hit in the head like that, we’ve got to make sure we take all of the time that it takes and all of the considerations. There’s a lot of stuff we’re going to check him out on. We want to make sure he’s OK.”

Jackson will sit out practice for the next few days while he is monitored closely.

Branden Jackson returns to Seahawks facility after injury scare

Seattle Seahawks defensive end Branden Jackson was able to return to the team facility after the injury scare during the scrimmage on Saturday.

The Seattle Seahawks got a little bit of good news over the last few days with the return of defensive end Branden Jackson. Jackson was carted off the field and taken away in an ambulance on Saturday after losing consciousness following a collision with tackle Cedric Ogbuehi.

Coach Pete Carroll was able to provide an update on Jackson’s situation during his Zoom press conference with reporters.

“He’s back in the building and with us today, was at meetings today,” Carroll said. “We’ve got to check him out and make sure that we understand that nothing was really injured – he’s just recovering from such a big smack, you know that he got nailed with so we’ll see what that means.”

Carroll did say that Jackson will be further evaluated to make sure there is no structural damage and will likely sit out practice for at least the next couple of days.
