Cam Taylor-Britt, Travis Kelce involved in Bengals vs. Chiefs spat

Some Bengals vs. Chiefs trash talk made the rounds ahead of the NFL playoffs.

The Cincinnati Bengals didn’t get another shot at the Kansas City Chiefs this season because they fell short of the playoffs at 9-8.

Along the way, fans pointed out on social media that the Chiefs didn’t play starters during their Week 18 loss to the Denver Broncos, which let their AFC West rival slip into the playoffs instead of the Bengals.

While the No. 1 seed resting starters before a postseason run isn’t all that unusual, the fan feedback eventually worked its way to Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.

Kelce had a few things to say about it.

“I ain’t scared of [expletive] nobody,” Kelce said on the “New Heights” podcast.. “I wanted them in the [expletive] playoffs. I want to slay every dragon one by one, like Mortal Kombat. I don’t even want this to be like we play the lowest seed. Just give me the best teams. AFC, NFC, give me all of them, Mortal Kombat-style. I’ll go through every [expletive] one of them just giving them my best [expletive] effort. I ain’t scared of a single soul, man.

Bengals cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt then caught wind of that and sent a reply during his Instagram stories:

It’s all silly noise, really. But if nothing else, it shows that this rivalry is alive and well, no questions asked.

Referee explains lack of penalty on controversial pick-six

Did the refs miss a call early in Sunday’s game?

Sunday’s game got off to a bad start for the Pittsburgh Steelers. On the team’s first offensive drive, quarterback Russell Wilson threw a pick-six and spotted the Cincinnati Bengals.

However, on the play, Bengals cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt appeared to pull Steelers wide receiver George Pickens down by the helmet before the ball got there, allowing for the interception. It definitely seemed there should have been a flag thrown but there wasn’t.

After the game, referee Shawn Hochuli addressed the play and offered a pretty flimsy excuse for the no call.

“We ruled the receiver stumbled right off the line and then there was incidental contact that brought him down,” Hoculi said. “If there was a potential grab or hold, that was at an angle that we wouldn’t have seen. But our ruling, again, was that he stumbled off the line and then incidental contact occurred.”

Not sure if anyone buys this but ultimately it didn’t impact the outcome of the game.

Steelers fans react to penalty-filled Week 13 Steelers’ victory

Fans react to the penalty-filled Week 13 game, where the Steelers overcame miscues and missed calls to secure a win over the Bengals.

While the Pittsburgh Steelers dominated on offense in their Week 13 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals, one negative aspect could not be ignored: penalties. A total of 29 penalties were committed by both teams, with 20 being accepted.

The Pittsburgh Steelers players most responsible for their team’s penalty woes were found on both sides of the football, as none other than WR George Pickens and CB Joey Porter Jr. stood out.

Pickens was responsible for 30 penalty yards, while Porter gave the Bengals 57 yards on significant pass interference and defensive holding penalties.

The officiating, however, was not without controversy. The Cincinnati Bengals were essentially gifted a pick-six on a missed call, where CB Cam Taylor-Britt swung Pickens by the helmet to the ground, positioning himself perfectly with no penalty called.

With this in mind, fans of the Pittsburgh Steelers, while satisfied with their team’s victory in Week 13, were understandably frustrated by the penalties. Whether minor, flagrant, or a no-call, here are some of the best fan reactions to the penalty-filled game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cincinnati Bengals.

Report: Calvin Austin III ruled OUT in Week 13 against Bengals

WR Calvin Austin III has been ruled out of the Steelers Week 13 contest against the Cincinnati Bengals after multiple big hits.

The Pittsburgh Steelers’ injury woes continue to mount. WR Calvin Austin III, who has been instrumental in the Black and Gold’s deep passing attack, has been ruled out of Week 13’s matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals with a head injury.

To kick off the Steelers’ first drive of the game, the speedy wideout took a huge hit from Cincinnati Bengals LB Akeem Davis-Gaither, resulting in a pass interference penalty. Austin, who is listed at 5’9″ and under 170 lbs, is not a big receiver by any means and needed time on the sideline to recover from the hit.

However, Bengals CB Cam Taylor-Britt once again delivered a hard hit on Austin following a routine catch, resulting in the Steelers receiver’s injury.

While Austin’s injury couldn’t have come at a worse time for the wideout, who was in the midst of back-to-back impressive performances, the Pittsburgh Steelers offense continued to steamroll over the Cincinnati Bengals defense, with Russell Wilson carving up the opposing secondary in Week 13.

Officials gift Bengals a pick-six after missed call on George Pickens

Officials missed a blatant penalty in Week 13 as Bengals CB Cam Taylor-Britt grabbed George Pickens’ helmet, setting up a pick-six.

Officials made their presence felt early in Week 13’s contest between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cincinnati Bengals. While much of the discussion leading up to the game centered on the necessity for the Black and Gold offense to score early and often to keep pace with Cincinnati’s threatening offense, the black-and-white-striped referees heavily influenced the contest within the first five minutes.

With 11:56 remaining in the first quarter, Bengals CB Cam Taylor-Britt pulled on Steelers WR George Pickens‘ helmet, knocking the wide receiver to the ground and positioning himself for a routine pick-six.

The referees missed this obvious penalty, which could have been flagged as illegal contact, holding, or illegal hands to the face. This allowed the dangerous Bengals team to seize all the momentum. Pickens would ultimately score a touchdown on a later Pittsburgh drive, giving his team a much-needed breath of life on offense.

Bengals call out Cam Taylor-Britt’s struggles, but won’t give up on him

The Bengals are waiting for Cam Taylor-Britt to break out of his slump.

The Cincinnati Bengals aren’t going to give up on cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt.

That much Bengals fans should know. But things have been bad for Taylor-Britt this season, bordering on completely horrific.

Let the numbers tell it: CTB has allowed 565 yards and seven touchdowns this season on 56 targets, according to Kelsey Conway of the Cincinnati Enquirer. He’s been pulled multiple times out of the rotation.

Even so, the Bengals can admit the struggles while offering some public encouragement.

“I hate to say that about any of our guys,” Anarumo said, according to Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic. “Certainly, those stats aren’t what you want. If we just tackle the guy on a 5-yard out — they tempoed us and he should have gotten up there and pressed him and it doesn’t even happen but we didn’t. We are never going to give up on a guy like that. He’s got the great want-to and he’s doing everything he can. But we’ve got to do it better, that’s for sure.”

The reason for the sudden implosion of CTB, after he appeared on his way to bona fide No. 1 status, is hard to say. But it’s left the team in a terrible bind with Dax Hill out for the season and DJ Turner still developing. Hence, moves like hosting Xavien Howard on a workout and offering him a contract he didn’t accept.

As things stand now, CTB will remain out there, though whether it’s the encouraging version from his first two seasons or the struggling version from this year is impossible to say.

Joe Burrow dominates early, but Ravens rally for a 41-38 win over Bengals in overtime

Joe Burrow dominates early, but Ravens rally for a 41-38 win over Bengals in overtime

After a week of pundits and experts questioning Joe Burrow’s demise, the former LSU star put the NFL back on notice with a dominant, five-touchdown performance against the Baltimore Ravens at Paycor Stadium.

Still, it wasn’t enough, as Lamar Jackson and company rallied from a late fourth-quarter deficit to force overtime with a 56-yard field goal from Justin Tucker. In overtime, the Bengals recovered a Lamar Jackosn fumble but were unable to win it after Evan McPherson missed a 56-yard field goal of his win.

Baltimore used a big Derrick Henry run to get into field goal position, and Justin Tucker’s 24 field goals gave the Ravens their third straight win.

At one point in the fourth quarter, Burrow was 27-for-34 for 353 yards and five touchdown passes, while former college teammate Ja’Marr Chase had nine catches for 174 yards and two scores against a Ravens secondary full of first-round picks and high-paid defenders.

Burrow finished 30-39 passing for 392 yards, five touchdowns, and one costly interception. His MVP counterpart, Lamar Jackson, was 26-42 passing for 348 yards and four touchdowns. Jackson also had 12 carries for 56 yards on the day.

After a slow start, Derrick Henry finished things with a bang, rushing for 91 yards on 15 carries, with one rushing touchdown.

What’s going on with Bengals CB Cam Taylor-Britt?

The situation with Cam Taylor-Britt has Bengals fans confused.

Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt has had a brutal few weeks.

He backed up his trash talk with a stunning interception against the Chiefs, then got torched by the Commanders in primetime after more comments caught fire in the media.

Then, in Carolina, he was routinely targeted and coughing up big gains before giving way to DJ Turner on the snap counts. He was later the guy closest in coverage on a Panthers touchdown.

While it was easy to pass off Taylor-Britt suddenly working out of the rotation as coaches just wanting to find a way to get a former second-rounder like Turner playing time, that’s just not the case.

Here’s coordinator Lou Anarumo on Monday, courtesy of Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic:

So, that all but confirms the Bengals are more than willing to get a player off the field amid struggles, even if he’s supposed to be the No.1 cornerback.

That would likely, then, apply to former first-rounder Dax Hill in his first season at corner, too.

For his part, Turner looked good in his big opportunity. So while there’s no reason to think CTB won’t bounce back on track, we could see more of a rotation than in the past.

For now, accountability is a theme for the struggling defense and CTB is the proof.

Zac Taylor slams door on Cam Taylor-Britt bulletin-board material saga

No more Cam Taylor-Britt bulletin-board material for the Bengals.

Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt will have nothing but praise for upcoming opponents this season.

That much we can confirm based on head coach Zac Taylor’s reaction to Taylor-Britt’s comments directed at Washington.

“That’s not what we do,” Taylor said after the Monday night loss. “We praise our own team. We praise the other team. We don’t take shots like that. That team hasn’t punted in two weeks.”

Taylor-Britt revealed after the loss that Taylor had already spoken to him about the topic behind closed doors, saying “just don’t speak on the other teams,” as noted in this interview with CLNS Media’s Mike Petraglia:

While Taylor Britt’s “nice college offense” quip that got a response from Commanders coaches perhaps wasn’t meant as a slight, he needed to foresee that the media machine would run with it and the other team would use it as motivation.

To his credit, CTB had some pregame trash talk before playing the Chiefs, too, and reeled in perhaps the best interception of the entire season.

Either way, don’t expect anything else from CTB anytime soon.
