Bengals lose Cam Taylor-Britt to injury vs. Ravens

Breakout Bengals defender Cam Taylor-Britt ruled out with an injury, too.

The Cincinnati Bengals just couldn’t shake the injury bug on “Thursday Night Football” against the Baltimore Ravens.

Joe Burrow’s wrist injury that had him declared out was the biggest headline item.

But not far behind that was a quad injury suffered by cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt, which quickly had him ruled out, too.

It’s an unfortunate setback for CTB, who has really come into his own as the No. 1 cornerback for the Bengals this year and he had at least one stellar pass breakup on a would-be touchdown before leaving the game.

With CTB out, veteran Chidobe Awuzie will get more run with second-round rookie DJ Turner.

Cam Taylor-Britt chased Stefon Diggs all night during win over Bills

After DK Metcalf, Stefon Diggs was next for Bengals CB Cam Taylor-Britt.

Not too long ago, Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt made a big splash by chasing Seahawks wideout DK Metcalf all over the field in a win.

And he did something similar on Sunday night while the Bengals got the best of the Buffalo Bills to win their fourth straight.

Taylor-Britt wanted every bit of Stefon Diggs all night and got it when he could, as he said after the game.

“That was the whole plan,” Taylor-Britt said, according to Jay Morrison of Pro Football Network. “But they kept running him away. Look at the film. Every play he’s motioning, either to the other side, to DJ [Turner II] or Chido [Awuzie], or he’s motioning in the slot to where I’m not guarding him. If we were in man, I’m following him the whole way. And when I did, he didn’t get the ball.”

Diggs eventually paced the Bills with six catches for 86 yards and a score, but in a battle of attrition, the Bengals ultimately flustered Bills passer Josh Allen into just 258 passing yards with an interception, too.

Considering the challenges the Bengals secondary has faced this year — breaking in two new starting safeties and Chidobe Awuzie suffering an injury — the emergence of CTB as a No. 1 corner has been a welcome boon for the unit.

DK Metcalf takes strange stance after drama vs. Bengals

DK Metcalf made some interesting comments after his run-in with Cam Taylor-Britt.

Last Sunday, when the Cincinnati Bengals beat the Seattle Seahawks, cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt was on the receiving end of a boneheaded play from Seahawks receiver DK Metcalf.

Metcalf threw CTB to the ground after a play, drawing an unnecessary roughness flag that hurt his team.

But with coach Pete Carroll putting all the penalties up on a board as a form of accountability, Metcalf this week didn’t seem too bothered by his name being up there.

“It’s just a board to me, I’m not going to change the way I play,” Metcalf said, per PFT’s Mike Florio. “If you look at the penalties, there’s a taunting, unnecessary roughness, facemask, holding, and I think it was one more in there. I’m doing pretty good if I look at it and judge myself knowing how I play and just try to be consistent and have clean hands or whatever the case maybe, but I’m not going to change who I am as a player or a person.”

Metcalf added this: “I don’t feel like I was a problem or I need to make progress in a certain area. Football is a violent sport and it’s my one opportunity to be violent on game days, I’m just going to continue to do that.”

If nothing else, it’s interesting to see the perspective of recent Bengals opponents when it comes to big moments.

For the Bengals, Metcalf’s flag was a big helper during the victory and the game as a whole was proof that CTB can win bully matchups like this against the likes of Metcalf.

DK Metcalf accepts responsibility for interception, but not penalty

DK Metcalf accepts responsibility for interception, but not penalty

It was not a good day for the Seattle Seahawks offense, or star wide receiver DK Metcalf, on Sunday against the Bengals. After a week off, Seattle’s offense hardly looked like the well-oiled machine many were expecting they’d be. Instead of being able to capitalize on a strong performance from their defense, the offense stalled time and time again.

The biggest culprit was of course quarterback Geno Smith, who took full responsibility for his lackluster play. But we should not be overlooking Metcalf’s performance either. Metcalf only hauled in four passes out of ten total targets, including one where it directly resulted in an interception.

To Metcalf’s credit, he absolutely owned his responsibility on this play.

But where Metcalf did not take accountability was on the play where he was flagged for unnecessary roughness… again. Once more, Metcalf’s inability to stay calm and not let defenders get to him reared its ugly head. Metcalf offered quite the explanation as for why he hit Bengals cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt the way he did.

The explanation of “not hearing the whistle” and therefore not realizing the play is dead, is rather weak in my opinion. Metcalf and Taylor-Britt clearly stop, Metcalf pauses, then continues to go full tilt into a player who has obviously stopped his effort on the play.

I said it in Week 1 and I’ll say it again in Week 6: Metcalf’s in year five of his career. The hothead act has officially worn thin. While this did not cost the Seahawks as dearly as it did in Week 1, it’s still beyond frustrating. Metcalf is still a beloved figure in Seattle sports, rightfully so, but if he keeps this up it’s only going to be a matter of time before the 12th Man starts to sour on him.

Bengals sent Cam Taylor-Britt after DK Metcalf to win bully matchup

Cam Taylor-Britt chased DK Metcalf around and got in his head.

Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt was the star of the show during his team’s win over the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.

The Bengals unleashed CTB in the sense that they sent him all over the field chasing physical star Seahawks wideout DK Metcalf no matter where he went.

After the game, Bengals cornerback Mike Hilton said the Bengals wanted to play bully ball with one of the league’s most physically imposing wideouts.

“The bullies get bullied,” Hilton, said, according to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com. “We know that’s Metcalf’s type of game. He wants to get in corners’ heads. But we knew once we put 29 (Taylor-Britt) on him, all that was dead. He’s not used to guys pushing back and getting physical with him, Once the game plan was for Cam to follow 14 (Metcalf), we knew what time it was.”

CTB’s big day, which included a diving interception, limited Metcalf to four catches for 69 yards.

Also, this 15 yards for the Bengals defense because CTB was under Metcalf’s skin in a big way:

Was this a breakout game for CTB? Maybe. But either way, it’s clear he’s going to be a top fixture of the defense for a long time.

A frustrated DK Metcalf took a blatant cheap shot at the Bengals’ Cam Taylor-Britt

DK Metcalf has to be A LOT more mature than this.

The last reaction you want from your players amidst a poor performance is taking a backbreaking penalty. Someone with the Seattle Seahawks should remind DK Metcalf about how important it is to stay ahead of the chains.

As Seattle battled the Cincinnati Bengals in an underrated heavyweight battle Sunday, Cam Taylor-Britt had the lofty assignment of covering Metcalf. And, from an early account, at least, Taylor-Britt was passing this test with flying colors. Through the first half, Metcalf had one catch for 12 yards and was a complete non-factor.

Rather than respond with a big play for his team, Metcalf decided to let Taylor-Britt get into his head. He wound up taking an unnecessary cheap shot on the cornerback, who notably didn’t even instigate Metcalf outside of just doing his job on the boundary.

Yeah … you can’t do this:

Metcalf is an integral part of what the Seahawks try to achieve offensively. He’s arguably their top offensive playmaker. But that’s the key — he has to make plays to be effective, like anyone. And he has to keep his cool amidst any slow starts against defenders like Taylor-Britt, who are simply punching in and sticking to their assignment.

DK Metcalf loses his cool again, commits another penalty

Seahawks WR DK Metcalf loses his cool again, commits another penalty

Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf is our favorite player in the entire league, but this is getting a little old.

Watch Seattle’s superstar receiver go off on Bengals defensive back Cam Taylor-Britt, shoving him to the ground and earning yet another unnecessary roughness penalty and no doubt another $10,000+ fine from the NFL, too.

Fortunately, Geno Smith hit Tyler Lockett on an absolute gorgeous dime on the next play for a huge gain, so it didn’t cost the Seahawks this time. Still, this is not the kind of thing this team can afford if they’re going to beat a team as good as the Bengals.

Speaking of which, Joe Burrow is definitely back and is currently all the way at the bottom of his bag. Cincinnati leads Seattle 14-7 midway through the second quarter.

Cam Taylor-Britt with pick-six to revive Bengals

The Bengals took the lead late in the second quarter on a pick-six

The Arizona Cardinals defense came up with a goal-line stand late in the second quarter against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.

A Joshua Dobbs pass on the next drive ruined the hard work by the Cardinals’ defense.

Dobbs threw a pass that was picked off by Cam Taylor-Britt, who returned it 11 yards for a touchdown.

The Bengals once led 10-0, fell behind 14-10, then took a 17-14 lead on the PAT.

Talk about a deflating play for Arizona.

Bengals CB Cam Taylor-Britt ruled out due to injury vs. Titans

Another injury for the Bengals, this time Cam Taylor-Britt.

Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt suffered an injury during the Week 4 game against the Tennessee Titans and was eventually ruled out.

Taylor-Britt went to make a tackle on a ball-carrier and took a hit in the helmet by a teammate and needed the help of trainers to leave the field.

The Bengals then announced Taylor-Britt was being evaluated for a concussion before later ruling him out of the game — with the score at 27-3.

With Taylor-Britt out, the Bengals turned to second-round rookie DJ Turner on the boundary opposite Chidobe Awuzie, with Mike Hilton still the starting slot corner. Another corner, DJ Ivey, was on the team’s inactives list.

Bengals’ Cam Taylor-Britt responds after NFL hits him with fine letter

Bengals CB Cam Taylor-Britt got hit with a fine letter this week.

Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt received a fine letter from the NFL this week due to unnecessary roughness during the team’s Week 3 win over the Los Angeles Rams.

The fine is viewable on the NFL’s “accountability” page, though the unnecessary roughness wasn’t actually penalized during the game.

Taylor-Britt seemed to take getting an envelope from the NFL in stride though, taking to social media to post a funny quick meme about the whole thing.

This is the first major fine news for the Bengals this year. A week prior, the biggest news surrounding the team in this area had been the fact multiple Ravens players were fined for their actions against the Bengals.
