Slow your Bol: Nuggets – Pistons trade is off after failed physical from Bol Bol

Former Oregon Ducks big man Bol Bol failed his physical with the Detroit Pistons, voiding the trade and returning him to the Denver Nuggets.

Former Oregon Ducks big man Bol Bol is not headed to the Motor City after all. According to a tweet from Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Detroit Pistons failed Bol on his incoming physical with the team, which allowed them to void the trade.

After one injury-shortened season in Eugene, Bol was the 44th overall pick of the 2019 NBA draft, and was traded one day later to Denver for a future second round pick.

Now he’ll remain with Denver for the time being, a team that has had little use for him this season. Bol has only appeared in 14 games for Denver this year, playing less than five minutes per game.

It is unclear at this point why exactly Bol did not pass his physical, but it stands to reason this could impact Denver’s ability to trade Bol again this season – which is a bummer for Bol who would have had a much better opportunity to see the floor in Detroit.

Trade to Pistons should create more opportunities for Bol Bol

The Pistons acquired Bol Bol on Sunday, which could jumpstart the former Duck’s young NBA career.

The Denver Nuggets are moving on from center Bol Bol, sending the former Oregon Duck to the Detroit Pistons in exchange for Rodney McGruder and a future second round pick – according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Bol was initially drafted by the Miami Heat with the 44th overall pick in the 2019 NBA draft, and was traded to Denver one day later for cash and a future second round pick.

He signed a two-way deal with Denver and appeared in seven games as a 20-year-old rookie, playing 12.4 minutes per night and scoring 5.7 points with 2.7 rebounds and an eye-popping 44.4% mark from three.

However, the Nuggets had little use for Bol after that. He played in 32 games in 2020-2021 and appeared in just 14 games this season.

Across those final 46 games on the Nuggets, Bol played just 5.2 minutes per game, and it is not a surprise to see Denver move him somewhere where he can actually get on the floor.

Detroit is rocking with former Washington star Isaiah Stewart at center, with Saddiq Bey playing the four. Veteran Kelly Olynyk remains out with a knee injury, however, and Luka Garza, Trey Lyles, and Micah Potter isn’t exactly a powerhouse group of depth options for the Pistons.

Bol’s length, athleticism, and outside shooting have long made him an intriguing NBA prospect, and a rebuilding team like Detroit is a perfect place for him to gain valuable reps.

Alongside Cade Cunningham, Bol could blossom into a very solid NBA player in time.

Nuggets fans absolutely loved Bol Bol’s two-handed jam in garbage time

Bol logged only three minutes, but earned perhaps the best reaction of the night after a powerful dunk in the closing seconds.

Denver Nuggets center Bol Bol logged just three minutes of work on Monday but the 7-foot-2 center earned perhaps the best reaction of the night from his teammates and those fans on hand in the Mile High City.

With Michael Porter Jr. going off for a game-high 31 points, and Nikola Jokic adding 24 points, 15 rebounds and five assists, the Nuggets cruised to a 120-96 win over the Memphis Grizzlies. The win marked their sixth in seven games, which have all been without Jamal Murray.

As the Nuggets emptied the bench, head coach Michael Malone inserted Bol into the game. He made the most of his short stint on the floor and jammed down a powerful, two-handed slam, which got the crowd and his teammates hyped up.

While Bol has played mostly in mop-up duty this season, he is still capable of putting up a few highlight-worthy plays. His blend of size and ability to shoot gives him the tools to make some unbelievable plays, and that was once again the case on Monday.

NBA fans lost it over this gorgeous Bol Bol step-back 3-pointer

This was Harden-esque.

Bol Bol is must-see TV whenever he hits the court for the Nuggets – but NBA fans have only been able to catch short glimpses of 7-foot-2 center midway through his second season.

The 21-year-old has only appeared in 27 total games for the Nuggets and was reportedly in trade talks leading up to last week’s deadline, but on Sunday night against the Hawks, Bol showed another flash of potential in a short five-minute stint on the floor.

Bol scored eight points on three shots, and went 2-for-2 from behind the arc – including this dazzling Harden-esque step-back. NBA fans were going wild on Twitter over the highlight.

Report: Nuggets could move Hampton, Nnaji or Bol in Aaron Gordon deal

The Nuggets have reportedly emerged as the leading candidate to acquire Gordon from the Magic ahead of the trade deadline.

After requesting a trade from the Orlando Magic, Aaron Gordon is considered to be a prime candidate to be moved ahead of Thursday’s NBA trade deadline with several teams expected to be in the running to land the seventh-year forward.

Of course, news broke on Monday that Gordon formally requested a trade from the Magic after growing frustration with losses and injuries in recent years. He reportedly wants to join a contender, with the Boston Celtics among those showing interest.

However, according to Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report, the Denver Nuggets have reportedly emerged as the frontrunner to land Gordon as of late Wednesday night. The report, which cited league sources, indicated Denver’s deal is gaining momentum with the Magic.

The Nuggets are reportedly willing to offer guard Gary Harris, a first-round pick and a young player on the roster, either rookie R.J. Hampton, Zeke Nnaji or Bol Bol, for Gordon. Hampton and Nnaji were both first-round picks last year while Bol was a second-round pick in 2019.

Gordon, who has one more year left on his contract, is averaging 14.6 points and 6.6 rebounds on a career-high 37.5% shooting from 3-point range in 25 games this season. He is viewed as a hot commodity on the trade market and could help a prospective team make a playoff run.

In addition to the Nuggets, the Celtics are also discussing a deal that would send the Magic a future first-round pick and a young player, either Aaron Nesmith or Romeo Langford for Gordon. Boston could also have Evan Fournier on its radar in that trade, as well.

With Gordon wanting out of Orlando, the organization appears to be on the verge of trading the 25-year-old as teams around the league look to acquire additional help for the second half of the season.

Report: Bol Bol, Lauri Markannen offered in packages for Lonzo Ball

As trade offers continue coming in for Lonzo Ball, Lauri Markkanen and Bol Bol are two players mentioned in trade packages.

In search of the best potential offer for Lonzo Ball, the New Orleans Pelicans appear to at least have an eye on big men to pair with Zion Williamson long-term. Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer reported on Monday that the Pelicans have had discussions with Chicago on a deal involving Lauri Markkanen and with Denver on a deal with Bol Bol included.

“…There were early discussions centered around swapping Lauri Markkanen for Ball, sources said, yet those talks have not yet seemed close to substantial.

Denver has repeatedly been mentioned by league sources as a Ball suitor, rumored to have offered Bol Bol in those early conversations…”

This is not the first time the Bulls have been mentioned as The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor reported the team has dangled Tomas Satoransky and second round picks for Ball as well.

In theory, Markkanen and Bol would be complementary pieces to Williamson with their ability to stretch the floor. Both, however, would likely need to be packaged for more assets in a trade for Ball.

Markkanen is a player that has struggled to stay on the court and is also set for restricted free agency. Bol has been a high-potential player but is still pretty far away from contributing to a winning team.

Nuggets’ Michael Porter Jr. captured an insane dunk by Bol Bol on video

Nuggets center Bol Bol threw down a crazy dunk on Tuesday after practice in Miami and Porter was there to get it on video.

Ahead of a matchup on the road Wednesday in Miami, the Denver Nuggets hit the court at AmericanAirlines Arena for some practice before playing the Heat.

Once practice was wrapped up, Nuggets center Bol Bol and forward Michael Porter Jr. stayed around and had some fun on the court. Fortunately, Porter decided to document the occasion and take some video of Bol throwing down some dunks.

On one dunk, in particular, the 7-foot-2 Bol pulled off a 360, one-handed windmill jam. The dunk earned some cheers from those still around in the gym, while Porter can be heard snickering a bit in the video.

Bol has often been called a unicorn given his unique skill set at his size.

He has developed a strong 3-point shot and can handle the ball out in transition. Certainly, Bol has thrown down several crazy dunks in practice when no one else is around, but, fortunately, Porter was there to capture this one on video.

Warriors’ James Wiseman jammed down a signature dunk over Bol Bol

Wiseman has thrown down quite a few dunks to this point of the season, but perhaps none were better than his jam over Bol.

Golden State Warriors rookie James Wiseman has thrown down quite a few dunks to this point of the season, but perhaps none were better than his jam on Thursday versus the Denver Nuggets.

During the third quarter, Wiseman found himself in a pick-and-roll sequence with teammate Stephen Curry. Wiseman began to roll toward the basket as Curry was double-teamed, and was hit with the pocket pass in stride at the top of the circle.

From there, the sheer athleticism and ability by Wiseman took over.

Wiseman began to rise up at the bottom of the circle and then proceeded to throw it down with his left hand over the outstretched arms of the 7-foot-2 Bol Bol at the rim.

Wiseman has turned in a few highlight-reel plays this season and the dunk over Bol may be his best one to date. He has emerged as one of the top rookies this season and it stems from his ability to make impact plays on both ends of the floor.

Nuggets’ Bol Bol surprisingly made his first career start on Tuesday

Bol was surprisingly named as a starter ahead of the Nuggets’ matchup on the road versus the Nets.

On Tuesday, Bol Bol was surprisingly named as a starter ahead of the Denver Nuggets’ matchup on the road versus the Brooklyn Nets. Bol was thrust into the starting lineup with Gary Harris out due to personal reasons, and the result was rather uneventful.

Bol, who was the starting small forward, recorded five points, two rebounds and one assist in a season-high 16 minutes during the 122-116 loss. Bol converted on 1-of-2 attempts from 3-point range after getting freed up near the wing.

The news of Bol starting the game came as a bit of a shock considering he had just five appearances to this point of the season, mostly in mop-up duty. He showed some signs of rust, after traveling twice, while he was tasked with guarding Kevin Durant on the court.

The 7-foot-2 Bol hasn’t cracked the rotation this season with the Nuggets but he could eventually have the opportunity if the team elects to change things up, as they did on Tuesday. He gives opposing teams matchup problems given his size and ability to hit outside shots and they could look to take advantage of that this season.
