Russell Wilson and Bobby Wagner swapped jerseys after Week 10 game

Russell Wilson and Bobby Wagner swapped jerseys after Week 10 game

The Seattle Seahawks may have had a bye week on Sunday, but the 12th Man got to see two of their favorite franchise legends take the field. Only this time, they got to be on the field at the same time.

The Pittsburgh Steelers were taking on the Washington Commanders this weekend, which meant quarterback Russell Wilson was facing off directly against linebacker Bobby Wagner. For Seahawks fans, it surely is a bizarre sight to see Wilson in a Steelers jersey, and Wagner in a Commanders one. But no matter what, it is still great to see them out there competing at a high level.

The Washington/Pittsburgh game was one of the best from Week 10, especially in the morning slate of games. The Commanders held a 24-14 lead in the second half, but the Steelers were not going away quietly. Eventually, Wilson engineered a six-play, 51yard drive which was capped off by a 32-yard touchdown strike to Mike Williams to take a 28-27 lead. Six plays later, Pittsburgh’s defense held on to secure the road victory to remain undefeated with Wilson as a starter.

Afterwards, Wilson and Wagner exchanged jerseys. The two entered the league in the same 2012 NFL draft class, which was infamously given an “F” grade by Bleacher Report at the time. Clearly, neither future Hall of Famers have forgotten that grade.

Wilson completed 14-of-28 passes for 195 yards, three touchdowns against one interception. Wagner recorded seven total tackles.

What was Bobby Wagner’s advice for the Commanders after tough loss to Steelers?

Bobby Wagner and his teammates already looking ahead to Thursday night.

On Sunday, the Washington Commanders lost a heartbreaker to the Pittsburgh Steelers, 28-27, to end their three-game winning streak. It’s good to have a veteran like Bobby Wagner in your locker room when you lose a heartbreaker like that.

After Washington’s loss, which featured several mistakes and some questionable officiating, the future Hall of Fame linebacker spoke to the media after the game and kept things in perspective.

“This is part of the game,” Wagner said when questioned about what he tells younger players who’ve never experienced an NFL loss like the one on Sunday.

“When you lose a game like this, sometimes it’s a blessing to have that Thursday game cause you don’t have to wait as long to get back on the field and right some of those wrongs, and so, understand where we’re at, understand the things that we’re doing we can fix and it’s on us to fix them.”

It was a difficult loss for the Commanders, who came into Week 10 as winners of three in a row and seven of eight. However, those tough losses can sometimes benefit teams later in the season.

Washington has a date on Thursday Night Football in Philadelphia against the Eagles.

Commanders’ players react to Marshon Lattimore trade

Commanders’ players are all excited about the addition of Marshon Lattimore.

Washington general manager Adam Peters made a significant move on Tuesday, trading for four-time Pro Bowl cornerback Marshon Lattimore. With the trade, Peters sent a message to his team that he believes the 7-2 Commanders can contend for the Super Bowl this season.

Lattimore met with the media on Wednesday and expressed excitement about playing for the Commanders and reuniting with some of his college teammates, including Terry McLaurin.

Washington players are also happy about the addition of Lattimore and what it means going forward. They understand Lattimore is an elite player in a position of need, and Peters paid the price to help the current playoff push.

On Wednesday, several players, including Jayden Daniels, Bobby Wagner and Noah Brown, reacted to Lattimore’s addition. McLaurin, Brown, and Jalyn Holmes were teammates with Lattimore at Ohio State.

Watch: NBA superstar Steph Curry gifts Jayden Daniels his jersey

Steph Curry gifted his jersey to Jayden Daniels after Monday’s game between Warriors and Wizards.

Washington superstar rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels attended his first Washington Wizards game as the Commanders quarterback on Monday night. As you might expect, when the Wizards showed Daniels, alongside his mother, linebacker Bobby Wagner, and minority owner Mark Ein, the crowd went crazy.

Daniels being in attendance was such a big deal that the official NBA X account posted the video of him in the crowd.

A noted basketball fan, Daniels was into the game and rooting for the hometown Wizards against the legendary Steph Curry and four-time NBA champion Golden State Warriors.

Golden State would win, as Curry led the way with 24 points. Afterward, Daniels would meet Curry, and the two would speak. The NBA superstar took off his jersey, signed it, and gifted it to the NFL’s hottest young quarterback.

The star quarterback has helped lead the Commanders to a 7-2 start, their best start since 1996.

Commanders DC explains what makes LB Bobby Wagner so special

Bobby Wagner has been terrific on and off the field for the Commanders.

It is not unusual to find employees who are more interested in their day off than the energy they spend on working days.

That is not the case with Commanders’ linebacker Bobby Wagner.

Thursday, during his time with the local media, defensive coordinator Joe Whitt Jr. expressed that Tuesdays are a player’s day off. However, not for Wagner. Wagner, on his own, volunteers to come in and spend time studying the next opponent.

“He studies more than anybody,” said Whitt. “Bobby’s in there (film room) as long as we are on players’ day off Tuesday. When we coaches are talking run game or pass game, I can go in there and talk to him.”

Is this a simple, quick run-through of the opponent’s last game? Oh no, Whitt expressed that Wagner makes a day of it.

“He’s there the whole day, watching film on his own. Then he makes the linebackers come in part of the day and watch with him.”

“That’s what makes him special. That’s why he is going to have that jacket on, when he gets finished playing.”

Whitt talked about Wagner really being a coach on the field. For instance, when the Bears were in uptempo, four different times, Wagner went ahead and called the defense without waiting for Whitt. Whitt said each time, Wagner made the right defensive call. Whitt also expressed he has enough confidence in Wagner that he had previously given the green light to Wagner to make some calls if the game speed demanded it.

The Commanders’ defense has improved in recent weeks, and Wagner really is another coach on the field—and it shows.

Gimme Him: One player Giants would steal from Commanders

The New York Giants would immediately strengthen the interior of their defense by stealing this player from the Washington Commanders.

The New York Giants (2-6) will host the Washington Commanders (6-2) at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey this Sunday afternoon.

That, of course, provides those of us here at Giants Wire the opportunity to hypothetically steal from the Commanders’ roster in search of depth and/or talent upgrades for Big Blue for the second time this season.

Back in Week 2, we “stole” quarterback Jayden Daniels, so he’s eliminated as an option for this exercise.

Over the years, wide receiver Terry McLaurin has been the easy steal but that’s no longer a position of need. Other options include offensive tackle Cornelius Lucas, center Tyler Biadasz, and safety Jeremy Chinn.

Ultimately, we’re going to take linebacker Bobby Wagner away from the Commanders, weakening their defense while strengthening the Giants’.

While the Giants don’t necessarily “need” Wagner thanks to the pairing of Bobby Okereke and Micah McFadden, he would arguably be an upgrade over either of those players based solely on 2024 performance.

Wagner has the sixth-highest overall grade for middle linebackers this season (83.7) and excels as a run defender. He also grades out highly as a pass rusher and while he’s below average in coverage, he wouldn’t be considered a downgrade compared to McFadden in that area.

Wagner and Okereke lining up behind nose tackle Dexter Lawrence would be a dream come true for defensive coordinator Shane Bowen.

What are your thoughts, Giants fans? Would you pick Bobby Wagner or would you steal an entirely different player from the Washington Commanders?

Commanders activate rookie linebacker Jordan Magee

The Commanders activate rookie linebacker from IR.

Jordan Magee is planning on making his NFL regular season debut on Sunday.

Wednesday afternoon, the Commanders made the decision: they have activated the rookie linebacker out of Temple.

Unfortunately, Magee injured his knee in the first week of the preseason against the Jets. At the time, the Commanders announced that he would need a procedure, but his injury was not season-ending.

So, Magee is brought on to the roster in preparation for the Week 8 home contest against the Bears. To make room for Magee, the Commanders released Jamin Davis, who was in his fourth season with Washington.

Upon watching Magee’s highlight film prior to the draft, analyst Daniel Jeremiah summed up his analysis of Magee with, “He’s instinctive, twitchy and tough.

The NFL permits a 21-day workout window for players returning from the Injured Reserve list. Magee’s 21-day window was coming to a conclusion. The Commanders determined to work out Magee testing the knee as often as they could. Had the Commanders chosen not to activate Magee on Wednesday, the league rules state Magee would have been out the remainder of the regular season.

The Commanders list Magee as 6-foot-3, 226 pounds. He was clocked with 4.55 speed and was selected 139th overall in the 2024 NFL draft. He will wear No. 58.

Frankie Luvu and Bobby Wagner have been the starting linebackers this season. Magee now joins Nick Ballore, Dante Fowler Jr (listed as LB) and Mykal Walker in the linebackers group on the active roster.

There is not currently a linebacker listed on the practice squad. With Magee leaving the injured reserve, those remaining on Injured Reserve are DT Jonathan Allen, WR Jamison Crowder, DE Javontae Jean-Baptiste and DT Norell Pollard.

Seahawks legend Bobby Wagner opens delicious store in Renton

Seahawks legend Bobby Wagner opens delicious store in Renton

Former Seattle Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner will always ties to the organization and local community. Having spent the first 10 seasons (2012-2021) of his career with the organization, it was a sad day when the Seahawks initially moved on from Wagner in 2022. He’d spend the 2022 campaign with the division rival Los Angeles Rams before making a surprising and triumphant return to the defense via a one-year contract in 2023.

Wagner was outstanding for the Seahawks this past season. He was named to his ninth career Pro Bowl after miraculously racking up a career-high number of tackles (183) in his 12th career campaign. The Seahawks went through a bit of a regime change after parting ways with Pete Carroll this offseason, and Wagner moved on to sign a contract with the Washington Commanders, where he’ll play this season.

That doesn’t mean Wagner won’t keep ties with the local community. On Thursday, the former Utah State standout took to social media to announce that he is opening a Crumbl Cookies location in Renton Landing on Friday.

John Schneider’s former second-round selection from the historically great 2012 NFL Draft will stay connected to the local community via his new business venture. Wagner’s Crumbl at The Landing, which is within walking distance from Seahawks headquarters, will join the 20-plus stores throughout the state, with Crumbl becoming the go-to for gourmet cookies. Additional locations include Woodinville, Lakewood, Tacoma Central, and others.

Stop by Wagner’s new Crumbl location if you’re in the Renton area. You may even get an autograph!

The Commanders have one of the NFL’s oldest rosters in 2024

This is due to GM Adam Peters needing to improve a bad roster in the short term.

Rebuilding teams don’t often have older rosters. That’s not the case with the 2024 Washington Commanders. Of course, if you’d ask general manager Adam Peters and head coach Dan Quinn, this isn’t a rebuilding project; the Commanders are recalibrating.

Remember when Peters was introduced to the Washington media in January alongside owner Josh Harris? Someone asked Peters what he thought of the roster he inherited. He hesitated, saying he believed the Commanders had a “few cornerstone pieces on the roster,” but there was “a lot of work to do.”

The cornerstone pieces Peters referred to were Terry McLaurin, Jonathan Allen, Daron Payne and Sam Cosmi. He didn’t say that, but it was fairly obvious.

In March, Peters showed everyone what he thought of the roster he inherited when he signed over 20 outside free agents. In April, the Commanders added nine draft picks and 12 undrafted free agents. Washington continued to add free agents in the offseason and, on Tuesday, finalized its initial 53-man roster.

In finalizing his 53-man roster, Peters gutted the 2023 draft class, leaving Washington with only two players from its seven-player class.

So, back to the age of Washington’s “recalibrating roster.” According to Jimmy Kempski of the Philly Voice, the Commanders have the NFL’s eighth-oldest roster at 26.64 years old.

No one should panic here. First, this will change daily. This was the average age of the initial roster for all 32 teams. This offseason, Peters signed numerous players to short-term deals to field a competitive team and build depth. The previous regime’s poor draft classes left the Commanders with little depth.

Washington added nine picks in the NFL draft and two undrafted free agents. They kept other UDFAs on the practice squad. If the Commanders’ rookie class is successful, that’s the future core of the franchise. Many of the players Peters signed in March likely will not be here in 2025. Peters built the roster in the short term with a long-term view. He didn’t commit to any long-term contracts that would hamper Washington’s salary cap in the future.

For the first time in years, the Commanders are surrounded by real optimism, thanks to numerous smart offseason moves.

Commanders rookie linebacker Jordan Magee injured his knee against the Jets

The promising rookie was injured in the preseason opener.

While he didn’t receive the headlines of some other members in Washington’s 2024 rookie class, fifth-round linebacker Jordan Magee had everyone’s attention in the spring.

A multi-year starter at Temple, Magee was what head coach assistant general manager Lance Newmark called an “organizational pick” because everyone who watched him wanted him.

Shortly after arriving in Ashburn, Magee impressed his coaches and teammates, including future Hall of Fame linebacker Bobby Wagner.

Unfortunately, Magee injured his knee in Saturday’s preseason opener against the New York Jets. Head coach Dan Quinn gave injury updates in his Monday press conference and mentioned Magee.

“One other setback we had was Jordan Magee; he had injured his knee in the game; we’re going to get some more testing and that kind of stuff, so that was a bummer for sure,” Quinn said. “I thought he was off to a good start; I’m hopeful, but we’ll see what the rest of the day and tomorrow looks like as well, but he’ll be out this week for sure.”

That’s certainly a bummer for Magee. He was listed as the backup at middle linebacker to Wagner on the depth chart. The team could be waiting for Magee’s MRI results before determining how long he could be out.

He was set to play a significant role on special teams this season.
