Eerie footage shows ‘ghost of the forest’ entering residence

“Look who is silently entering into a home,” reads the social-media description of the video, captured in rural southern India.

A motion-sensor camera in southern India has captured rare nighttime footage of a fabled black panther lurking on the patio of a residence at night.

“Look who is silently entering into a home near Coonoor, Nilgiris,” Kishore Chandran described Thursday via X.

Coonoor is known for its sprawling tea plantations in the Nilgiri Hills.

The term black panther typically refers to a melanistic (all-black) leopard. The animal in the footage appears to be crossing in front of the home’s main door.

Susanta Nanda of the Indian Forest Service shared Chandran’s post under the heading, “Ghost of the forest comes looking…”

In 2022, BBC Earth elaborated on the stealthy creatures: “Black panthers (Panthera pardus) are sometimes referred to as ‘the ghost of the forest’ because their dark fur allows for stealthy attacks in the dead of night.”

(Panthera pardus is the scientific name for a leopard.)

Chandran’s post inspired plenty of commentary.

One of the more popular comments:

“Enthusiasts spend a lifetime combing jungles to get a glimpse of the Black Panther! And here he is… roaming casually at this guy’s house… insane!”

Another observation: “At night, this would look more dangerous than a tiger.”

There were also references to the fictional “Jungle Book” character Bagheera, friend and protector of the ‘man-cub’ Mowgli.

The black panther in Chandran’s post appears to be traveling solo, looking out primarily for No. 1.

Oscars 2023: How many Oscars have Marvel movies won?

The MCU doesn’t have the greatest history when it comes to the Oscars

Over the last decade and a half or so, Marvel has evolved from a company that produces comic books and storylines to an absolute cinematic powerhouse. It’s the most popular movie franchise in the world at this point, with four of the top 10 highest-grossing movies of all time.

So it’d be reasonable for someone to think that, with Marvel being this enormous, the franchise would have to have at least a handful of academy awards from the Oscars at this point.

However, that actually isn’t the case. The MCU hasn’t won many Oscars awards at all. In fact, the only wins the MCU does have from the Academy have come in the last few years and none of them have to do with on-screen performances.

In total, the MCU has been nominated for academy awards 26 different times, including 5 for this upcoming Oscars.

However, the franchise only has a total of three wins from those nominations, all coming from 2018’s Black Panther. The movie took home awards for best production design, best costume design and best original score at the 2019 Oscars.

Things could change this year. Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther 2 has Angela Bassett up for Best Supporting Actress after her performance as Ramonda in the film. Her dazzling performance is the MCU’s best hope for an on-screen Academy Award.

We’ll see how things go, though.

Lupita Nyong’o prepared for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever with this intense underwater workout

If you need a great aquatic workout, look no further.

Editor’s note: There are ZERO SPOILERS in this post.

Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o found an intense way to prepare for her return to the Black Panther series.

With Black Panther: Wakanda Forever playing in theaters, movie fans are beginning to get a glimpse of how filmmaker Ryan Coogler and company helped bring some of the film’s underwater scenes to life.

In the sequel, the antagonistic Namor (Tenoch Huerta Mejía) rules over his sea-hidden kingdom of Talokan. To help bring the sequences in Talokan to life, Coogler’s crew had to figure out the best way to stage the fictional universe in the water.

Movie magic can cover some of it up, but the realistic nature of Takokan’s imagining came down in part to the actors learning to play their characters while fully submerged and swimming.

Nyong’o, who plays Wakandan spy Naika in the series, shared her underwater workout routine on her TikTok page.

“I felt like a crawfish,” Nyong’o joked in the post.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will be one of two major Hollywood films this year to use extensive underwater production.

Avatar: The Way of Water, set for release next month, is poised to set a new benchmark for underwater production, on top of the clear advancements it’ll make in the 3-D space.

Since both productions are housed at Disney, it’s very likely the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever crew shared their insights into the rigors of underwater production, and vice versa.

At the very least, these casts probably learned some great aquatic workout routines to take with them after filming ends.

Last night was an opportunity for the Los Angeles Lakers to exhale after closing out the Portland Trail Blazers with a Game 5 victory to advance to the second round of the playoffs. But it also gave the players, particularly the Los Angeles Lakers an opportunity to grieve yet another untimely loss. The passing of Chadwick Boseman on Friday, as well as the tragic death of Kobe Bryant earlier in the year, were weighing on LeBron James after the game.

James honored Boseman by doing the ‘Wakanda Forever’ salute from the Black Panther movie and he was asked about the gesture, which led to LeBron lamenting the terrible year that it’s been in 2020.

The Lakers have a couple of days now to rest as they will await the winner of the Thunder-Rockets series, which currently stands at 3-2 Rockets. But it’s become clear that the Lakers also need some time to help get right mentally, as they are approaching nearly two full months in the bubble.
