Formula 1 star Lewis Hamilton dedicates his pole position to Chadwick Boseman

Big shouts to Hamilton for this one.

Saturday morning has already brought a number of tributes and dedications to Chadwick Boseman after his tragic death was announced on Friday night.

One of the most notable ones so far was from Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton. Hamilton learned the news when he woke up on Saturday morning and was devastated like the rest of us.

On Saturday morning he paid tribute to Boseman after taking his 93rd career F1 pole at Spa for the Belgian Grand Prix. After he finished, he said he dedicated the pole to Boseman and did the Wakanda salute in his honor. In a post on Twitter, he talked about the legacy Boseman left and called him a “true superhero.”

He also gave Boseman a shoutout on his radio during his run. “That one was for Chadwick. Chadwick Boseman, man. Rest in peace.”

Shoutout to Hamilton. What a tribute.

‘Black Panther’ star Chadwick Boseman dies at 43 after battle with Cancer and fans everywhere collectively mourned

This is unreal.

Chadwick Boseman has left this world far too soon. The “Black Panther” star passed away at just 43 years old after a four year battle with colon cancer.

Boseman meant so much to so many. His work was so important. It meant so much — specifically for Black people in America. He constantly took on iconic roles playing prominent Black figures, some fictional and some not.

His most prominent role was in the 2018 Marvel film “Black Panther” as T’Challa, the king of Wakanda. Finally, we got a superhero movie with a majority Black cast and an African protagonist. It was also written and directed by a Black director in Ryan Coogler. And Boseman was the one at the center of it all.

It didn’t stop there, though. He also played Jackie Robinson in “42,” Thurgood Marshall in “Marshall” and James Brown in “Get on Up.” All historic and prominent Black icons. All roles Boseman took on — some while battling cancer. That’s just incredible strength from a man who undoubtedly became an icon in his own right.

His passing was announced via his Twitter account on Friday night.

Everyone collectively mourned.

Some remembered the inspirational messages he left for us.

And some remembered the iconic roles he played.

Others remembered the moments of pure joy that he gave people — both on and off the screen.

After remembering everything he gave us, some put his legacy into perspective. This tweet captures that, perfectly.

Well said. Rest in peace, Chadwick Boseman. Gone too soon, but never forgotten.

Look: Georgia football RB D’Andre Swift the Captain America of NFL Draft

ESPN labeled Georgia football star running back D’Andre Swift as Captain America of the 2020 NFL Draft.

Georgia star running back D’andre Swift got some love from Marvel today when ESPN released a promotion of 2020 NFL Draft prospects as Marvel characters on Twitter.

The promotion also features Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts as Thor, Clemson safety Isaiah Simmons as Black Panther and Auburn defensive tackle Derrick Brown as Iron Man.

How Swift was chosen to be the esteemed Captain America is anyone’s best guess, but I like to think it’s because Swift is the most versatile running back in this year’s draft class.

In Swift’s three years at Georgia, he ran for 2,885 yards with 6.6 yards per carry and 20 touchdowns and he wasn’t done there…

The Philadelphia native added another 666 yards and five touchdowns as a pass catcher. And that’s while sharing carries as a freshman with now NFL running backs Nick Chubb and Sony Michel.

Not to mention the poor offensive play calling that limited Swift’s numbers as a receiver.

Swift will look to join the long line of Georgia NFL running backs this Thursday.

Mock drafts have Swift being selected anywhere from the top 15 picks in the first round to the beginning of the second round and there is some speculation that Swift –  Captain America – may be headed to Tampa Bay to be paired with the legendary Tom Brady.

Don Cheadle to play villain in ‘Space Jam 2,’ Paul Scheer says

Cheadle has long been a part of the project but his role wasn’t quite clear until his Black Monday co-star dropped it a few days ago.

As the boredom of being stuck inside during quarantine has been getting to people, there have been lots of untold stories getting dropped during these times. A few weeks ago, Carmelo Anthony told the story of the time LeBron James jumped off a boat to save his life. And then we got another bit of interesting LeBron news from an unexpected source, actor/comedian Paul Scheer.

During an episode of The Athletic’s ‘Clip City’ podcast, Scheer broke the news that Don Cheadle, with whom Scheer stars on the Showtime show ‘Black Monday,’ will play the villain in the ‘Space Jam 2,’ starring LeBron James.

Actually Don Cheadle, who I do ‘Black Monday’ with, he’s the bad guy in ‘Space Jam [2],’ and he said LeBron’s really great. He was great in ‘Trainwreck‘ too

(Hat-Tip to AwardsCircuit)

Cheadle has been a well-known part of the cast but it was previously unclear what his role would be in the reboot of the 1996 production. LeBron is expected to be joined by several other NBA and WNBA players, including Damian Lillard and Diana Taurasi.

LeBron James says he and his family are ‘going to Wakanda’

It appears that LeBron James and his family are getting out of the city of Los Angeles as the United States tries to slow coronavirus.

At least as far as the NBA and it’s players are concerned, most of the league appears to be taking the global pandemic of the coronavirus pretty seriously. Players from across the league have been sharing messages through their social media channels, as well as on the NBA’s main social channel, to engage in social distancing. With players across the league now free to leave their in-season markets, LeBron James and his family are leaving the city of Los Angeles and going to the fictional African country of Wakanda, from Marvel’s Black Panther comic book and movie. James also tweeted that he needs a vino drinking partner during this hiatus.

James will have plenty of time to get to know his wine collection.

Obviously, James isn’t going to share where he is going for a lot of reasons but it appears getting out of the city is what LeBron and his family are doing as the world tries to slow the spread of this global pandemic.

Ice Cube to co-star in Claressa Shields biopic ‘Flint Strong’

Hip Hop legend Ice Cube will co-star in the upcoming biopic about three-division women’s titleholder Claressa Shields.

Claressa Shields has won world titles in three divisions and two Olympic gold medals, all before the age of 25. What more can the self-styled Greatest Woman of All Time (GWOAT) ask for? Well, how about a Hollywood movie?

Shields is the subject of “Flint Strong,” a Universal Pictures-backed biopic of her life as a 17-year-old Flint, Michigan native who goes on to make history as the first American woman to win a gold medal in Olympic boxing. Shields medalled at the 2012 London and 2016 Rio games.

In the film’s latest development, hip hop luminary Ice Cube has signed on to join the cast as Shield’s trainer, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Shields is played by Ryan Destiny, best known for her role in the Fox musical drama “Star.”

The film boasts some strong names on the creative end. The screenplay is penned by acclaimed Academy Award-winning director Barry Jenkins (“Moonlight,” “If Beale Street Could Talk). Rachel Morrison, the Academy Award-nominated Director of Photography for “Black Panther, will make her directorial debut on the film.

Shields (10-0, 2 KOs) unified two 154-pound titles in January, when she defeated Ivana Habazin by a wide unanimous decision. She has also won titles at super middleweight and middleweight.
