Ranking the 15 best Spider-Man villains, including Green Goblin

Here are Spider-Man’s best villains with the release of the new exciting PS5 video game.

Any time a new Spider-Man story releases — be it in comic book, movie, television, or video game form — the world often waits with breathless anticipation. There is nothing like watching the morally pure Peter Parker swing and fumble about New York City while trying to balance a flawed (but relatable) life on the side.

That got me thinking.

With the release of the highly-anticipated Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 for the PlayStation 5, who enhances Spider-Man’s stories the most? I’m talking, of course, about his villains — the people who give flavor, spice, and conflict to an absolutely beloved character’s story. Below is an unscientific rating of the cream of the crop, the finest rogues in a gallery mostly unmatched by any other famous fictional hero.

If you’re perhaps preparing to swing around a virtual New York City again, you’ll appreciate the quick refresher on all-time classics.

Ranking the Spider-Man movies, from Peter Parker’s 2002 debut to Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

Let’s rank the Spider-Man movies while Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is playing in theaters.

Spider-Man has become one of the most prolific superheroes to appear on the big screen, going back to 2002’s Tobey Maguire-led origin story.

The web-slinging hero has been portrayed in three live-action movie franchises and one animated movie franchise, with three live-action Peter Parkers and one animated Miles Morales to show for it.

While everyone’s friendly neighborhood Spider-Man might inspire a lot of debate as to which version has been the most successful, it’s fair to argue that you’ve got plenty to choose from at this point.

With Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse still making waves in theaters, let’s swing back and rank all the Spider-Man movies so far.

Note: we won’t include movies like Avengers: Infinity War where Spider-Man happens to show up. If Spider-Man isn’t in the title, we won’t rank it.

Insomniac announces Spider-Man 2 release date at Summer Game Fest

After a gameplay tease at the PlayStation Showcase, Insomniac finally announced the Spider-Man 2 release date at Summer Game Fest

After a gameplay tease at the PlayStation Showcase, Insomniac finally announced the Spider-Man 2 release date at Summer Game Fest. Spider-Man 2 will launch on Oct. 20, 2023, for PS5. It turns out Venom’s voice actor wasn’t quite right after all.

Summer Game Fest showrunner Geoff Keighley called the game a PS5 exclusive, though if it’s like Insomniac’s first Spider-Man, we’ll likely see a PC port at some point.

Insomniac creative director Bryan Intihar also spoke a bit more about what to expect from Spider-Man 2 and what the team’s goals are for it. Spider-Man 2 will expand the Spiderverse, they say, by including more and different types of heroes and villains compared to the original game. Kraven, for example, isn’t a superhero and doesn’t even have an evil agenda. He’s just an exceptional, unhinged hunter who arrives in New York City to find exciting new prey.

The Symbiote Suit will also allow the team to explore new story mechanics and narrative themes, and while Insomniac didn’t say what those are, it’s kinda easy to guess. The gameplay reveal during the PlayStation Showcase centered on a moody Peter Parker, and the Symbiote Suit has a dark history in Spider-Man, one where the wearer rarely remains untouched by its shadowy nature.

As for who Venom is, Insomniac is still keeping that a secret. We do know, however, that Spider-Man 2 will swap between Miles and Peter’s viewpoints, with a blend of genres and styles – including horror and stealth – that weren’t present in the original.

The first trailer for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse dropped and it is absolutely perfect

Miles Morales is back for another multiverse adventure.

When Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse dropped in 2018, a new standard for the web-slinging hero was created, whether you were talking animated or live-action. The Oscar-winning Into the Spider-Verse told the story of Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) getting his powers and learning the Spidey ropes from a litany of Spider-Man variations from alternate universes, including Peter B. Parker (voiced by New Girl’s Jake Johnson), Spider-Ham (John Mulaney), Spider-Man Noir (Nic Cage) and Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld).

It was a nearly flawless film, and we’ve been waiting a long four-plus years for a sequel. Well, we got a title (Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse), we have a release date (June 2, 2023) and now we have a new trailer.

Oscar Isaac, Issa Ray and Daniel Kaluuya are among those joining an already star-studded cast, and it looks amazing. Is that Peter B. Parker with a baby carrier? Who are all these Spider-People? Has Oscar Isaac been bad in anything? June 2nd can’t get here soon enough.

ESPN takes absolutely hilarious shot at truly horrible NFC South with Spider-Man pointing meme

The NFC South is down bad.

Monday Night Football dusted off the Spider-Man pointing meme to mock the dumpster fire that is the 2022 NFC South.

That meme, which features two web-slinging superheroes pointing at each other, signifies two things are the same. Well, all four teams in the NFC South are the same thing this season, which is bad.

No team in the NFC South is deserving of the playoff spot that is promised to the division winner. However, one of these lowly teams will still represent the worst quartet in football in January.

With the New Orleans Saints and Tampa Bay Buccaneers playing each other on Monday night, ESPN’s hilarious NFC South Spider-Man graphic got in a lovely potshot at the division.

The Atlanta Falcons and Carolina Panthers are the other two teams that make up this toilet store of a division this year.

While the Falcons might be headed for greener pastures with gobs of cap space, and the Panthers in sound position to draft a new quarterback, the Saints and Bucs don’t really have much to work with in the offseason to come.

However, none of these teams have much to look forward to for now. Whoever wins the division might be headed toward a quick playoff exit.

How to stream Spider-Man and all the MCU titles before Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

Most of the movies are on Disney+, but what about the others?

With the upcoming release of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, you might be looking to either get into the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the first time or starting your umpteenth rewatch (guilty!).

We explained why Story Order is the best way to binge all of the MCU titles, but where can you find all of them? The launch of Disney+ made things a lot easier, housing 32 of the 36 entries into the universe, including 25 movies and all seven series.

That leaves the Spider-Man trilogy and Edward Norton’s lone endeavor as the Hulk as the odd movies out.

Here’s where you can find all of the MCU streaming, but if all else fails, you can buy or rent them all on Amazon or AppleTV.

Marvel boss Kevin Feige said clues point to Avengers’ next Thanos-level threat — here’s who is most likely

Who – or what – is up next for The Avengers after Thanos?

We’re officially closer to the end of Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe than the beginning and if you still have a ton of questions, well, that may just be the point.

The transitionary period for the film franchise has seen us say goodbye to series stalwarts Tony Stark, Steve Rogers, Natasha Romanoff and a few other fan favorites—or at least variations of those favorites. As Phase 4 continues exploring the multiverse, we’ve gotten a glimpse at what life could’ve been like had events played out a little differently.

But Phase 4 hasn’t brought us that much closer to another Thanos-level threat that requires a franchise-spanning team-up. Or maybe it has.

MCU mastermind Kevin Feige recently told Total Film the studio is closing in on its next phase and viewers should begin seeing some common threads develop:

“As we’re nearing the end of Phase 4, I think people will start to see where this next saga is going. I think there have been many clues already, that are at least apparent to me, of where this whole saga is going. But we’ll be a little more direct about that in the coming months, to set a plan, so audiences who want to see the bigger picture can see a tiny, tiny, tiny bit more of the roadmap.”

Obviously the first thread is already out there: The Multiverse.

That might just be a means to the next Big Bad, however, and not the MacGuffin the Infinity Stones were. So we put on our best, non-descriptive baseball hats and put together (entirely fictional) odds for who—or what—will cause the Avengers to assemble next.

With six films left on the Phase 4 docket, including Thor: Love and Thunder here’s a look at who’s most likely to rival Thanos’ arrival in the MCU.

Note: This list veers into some of the newer MCU projects, so if you aren’t caught up, read with caution.

The stars of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ recreated the pointing Spider-Man meme and it’s perfect

They did it! They did the meme!

Spider-Man: No Way Home, the latest installment in the insanely popular Marvel Cinematic Universe, has been highly successful since hitting theaters back in December. The movie is now the third-highest grossing domestic release ever, making $772 million (so far). No Way Home has passed Avatar for domestic box office, and only trails Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Avengers: Endgame (the latter of which also starred Tom Holland as Spider-Man).

The movie has also gotten rave reviews from critics and fans. It’s tied as the fourth-highest rated MCU entry according to Rotten Tomatoes with a solid 93% (Black Panther, Endgame, and Iron Man come in ahead of it), and No Way Home is tied with 2021’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings for the highest audience score at 98%.

If you somehow haven’t seen it yet and have avoided spoilers (including the headline of this post), turn away now if you don’t want anything ruined for you.

One of the reasons this movie hit with viewers was the inclusion of both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, who played the iconic roles in their own franchises. To celebrate the release of No Way Home, the trio of web shooters recreated the oh-so-famous Spider-Man pointing meme.

It’s absolutely perfect.

Every Spider-Man movie, ranked before ‘No Way Home’ hits theaters

The only ranking of Spider-Man you’ll ever need.

The latest installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe drops Thursday as they wrap Tom Holland’s seemingly first trilogy as the iconic Peter Parker in Spider-Man: No Way Home. When we last saw the webbed wonder, reporter J. Jonah Jameson outed Spider-Man’s identity, causing all sorts of problems.

Early returns have praised the flick, but you can rest assured that this is a spoiler-free zone for the new release. If you haven’t seen any of the other Spider-Man entries — and you don’t want them spoiled — bookmark this tab and take care of that before reading on.

Before Peter, MJ, Ned, and Doctor Strange are back on the big screen, I’m going to rank the previous seven installments of live-action Spider-Man  (meaning this list does not include the nearly flawless animated Into the Spiderverse) based on personal preference. Let’s get to it!

Tom Holland claims the Uncharted movie ‘broke’ him

No pain, no gain?

Shooting the upcoming Uncharted  film was incredibly difficult for Tom Holland.

During an  interview with GQ, Holland revealed that the film adaptation of PlayStation’s hit action-adventure game was an enormous physical undertaking.

“I never realized how lucky I am that Spider-Man wears a mask because when he’s bouncing around and flying from buildings, that’s all CG. In Uncharted, it’s just me in a henley and cargo pants,” Holland said via GQ. “That film absolutely broke me.”

Amazingly, the actor only had three days between wrapping up filming on  Uncharted  in Berlin before he immediately flew over to Atlanta to work on  Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Check out the Uncharted movie for yourself below.

Holland went on to mention he had developed tendinitis while working on Uncharted. It’s nothing severe, just a sign of the physicality his roles usually require.

“I was going to the gym in the morning like, ‘Oh, my God, I’ve must have torn something in my leg,’ and the guys were like, ‘You haven’t, you’re just tired and you’re getting older,'” Holland said  via GQ.

The big-screen adaptation of Uncharted  is coming on Feb. 22, 2022, which is around the same time that the  Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection  is allegedly releasing too.
