Spartans offer 4-star safety Zion Branch out of Las Vegas, 2022 Top-100 recruit

Michigan State has offered a top-100 recruit a scholarship in Zion Branch out of Bishop Gorman.

Something I have noticed over the last few weeks is that there seems to be a recent surge of Michigan State offering players who have already been offered by Alabama. Now, I think this is 100% coincidental, for the most part, but I do think it is highly indicative of the caliber of player that Mel Tucker is going after now that he is the head coach of the Spartans. 2022 4-star safety Zion Branch, who plays for Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, Nevada, is just the latest player to receive an offer from MSU who is also being heavily recruited by the Crimson Tide.

Branch is a 6’2″ defensive back and both the No. 3 ranked safety in his class and the No. 3 player in Nevada. He is also the No. 74 ranked player in the country by 247Sports.

Aside from Alabama, Branch also has offers from Michigan, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Ohio State, Penn State, Oklahoma and many more.

Texas Recruiting: Longhorns lose out on top WR to USC

One of the top wide receivers in the state and Texas Longhorns’ target Quaydarius Davis commits to USC.

The Texas Longhorns had their eyes set on one of the top wide receivers in the state, Quaydarius Davis of Skyline (Dallas, TX). According to 247’s prospect page, Davis was rated the 17th wide receiver in the country and 17th rated player in the state according to their composite rankings. He was once committed to SMU but then changed his commitment to Texas on June 9, 2019. Only to then decommit from the Longhorns on November 11th of that same year.

Despite re-opening up his recruiting, some still felt that the Longhorns were in the running to land the state’s top receiver. However, Davis committed to the Southern California Trojans on May 1, 2020. A school that he had yet to even visit.

Ryan Young of Rivals’ USC website details how hard the Trojans were going after Davis. This could be taken as a shot at how lackadaisical the staff at Texas were in terms of targeting him to come to the Longhorns. This marks the second time in a calendar year that a receiver chose USC over Texas. Bru McCoy enrolled at Texas before transferring to USC, the school he was once committed to before eventually landing in Southern Cal.

Texas Offers 2023 wide receiver from Las Vegas

The Texas Longhorns have offered 2023 wide receiver Zachariah Branch of Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas. The 5’8″ wide receiver can be a weapon.

The Texas Longhorns staff have offered a 2023 wide receiver out of Las Vegas. Zachariah Branch might be small in stature but the Bishop Gorman product is one that you must keep an eye on at all times. He is very shifty and can make plenty miss in the open field leading to big plays.

On Monday, Zion Branch, a 4-star safety from Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, Nevada, took to Twitter to announce a scholarship offer from Georgia as well.

247Sports has Branch listed as the No. 3 safety and No. 74 overall prospect in the 2022 recruiting class.

Although Branch is listed as a safety, at 6-foot-3 190 pounds, I could see Kirby targeting Branch for the star position in the 3-4 Georgia defense, using him as more of a hybrid player.

Branch holds offers from Texas A&M, Auburn and USC among 17 others.

Right now, per 247, Southern Cal is viewed as the favorite to land Branch.

On Branch, 247Sports wrote:

“Well rounded defender that can cover, make plays on ball and impact the run game closer to the line of scrimmage. Versatility to fit at various spots, with chance to help out in the box. Natural feel in space and roams the secondary with confidence.”

MATCHUP

No. 18 Southlake Carroll (Texas) (11-0)

vs.

DeSoto (Texas) (9-2)

When: 11/22, 6:30 p.m. ET

Tale of the Tape: DeSoto may have been beaten twice this year, but both of those losses were one-point games. This team is just a couple breaks away from being undefeated. Southlake Carroll, though, is undefeated; the closest game was a 12-point win, and last week, the Dragons won by 78 points. They have been unstoppable behind sophomore quarterback Quinn Ewers and freshman running back Owen Allen. It will take a big performance from some DeSoto player to keep up: maybe cornerback Jabbar Muhammad or Devyn Bobby, or perhaps an offensive weapon like leading wide receiver Lawrence Arnold. More likely, it’ll take a big performance from several Eagles.
