Wisconsin at Minnesota odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Saturday’s Wisconsin Badgers at Minnesota Golden Gophers sports betting odds and lines, with college football betting picks.

The Wisconsin Badgers (9-2, 6-2 Big Ten West) will do battle with the Minnesota Golden Gophers (10-1, 7-1 West) Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET. Not only with one of the best college football trophies (Paul Bunyan’s Axe) on the line, but this season’s game is even more meaningful with a trip to the Big Ten Championship Game up for grabs. We analyze the Wisconsin-Minnesota odds and betting lines, while providing college football betting tips and advice on this matchup.

Wisconsin at Minnesota: Three things you need to know

1. The Badgers limp into this game with a 1-4 against the spread mark across the past five games, although they’re an impressive 15-6 ATS in the past 21 on the road and 8-3 ATS in the past 11 away games against a team with a winning home mark.

2. The Golden Gophers have covered seven of the past eight overall while going 4-0 ATS in their past four home outings and 8-1 ATS in the past nine conference tilts.

3. Wisconsin ranks 14th in the nation with 251.2 rushing yards per game while ranking seventh in total yards allowed (270.3), sixth in passing yards allowed (169.9) and 10th in rushing yards allowed (100.4). Its 14.4 PPG allowed ranks eighth.

Prediction

Ohio State 37, Michigan 27

Moneyline (ML)

WISCONSIN (-154) will go into the Twin Cities and grab the axe with a win. The Badgers have a strong running back with RB Jonathan Taylor, who will be able to control the game. Minnesota (+125) has a bevy of quality backs as well; however, the Gophers haven’t faced a suffocating defense like Wisconsin possesses.

New to sports betting? Every $1 wagered for Wisconsin to win outright will return a profit of $6.50.

Against the Spread (ATS)

WISCONSIN (-2.5, -128) has the road trends in its favor, as the visitor is 4-0-1 ATS in the past five meetings. Minnesota (+2.5, +105) is catching points at home, though, and the underdog is 8-3-1 ATS in the previous 12 in this series. I think Taylor is the difference in this one, and he rips off a special game for the Badgers.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 45.5 (-110) is usually the way to go here, hitting in 15 of the past 19 battles in this series. The Over is also 4-1 in Minny’s past five overall. For Wisconsin, the Under has hit in five of the past seven on the road, but the Over is 4-1 in the past five games in November.

Ohio State vs. Michigan: How and where to watch and listen to the game Saturday

Want to catch Ohio State vs. Michigan in the latest installment of The Game. We’ve got your television, streaming, and radio information.

Here. We. Go.

It’s another installment of the greatest rivalry in American sports. It’s Scarlet and Gray mixed with Maize and Blue. It’s Ohio State vs. Michigan, more affectionately known as The Game.

You know the story. The Buckeyes have owned this rivalry for the better part of two decades now despite Michigan trying out a few coaches along the way. Now Jim Harbaugh is still stomping around on the sidelines looking to improve on his 0-4 record against Ohio State.

Early on this season, the thought of Michigan hanging with OSU was laughable. However, over the last few weeks, optimism is nearly at a boil with the Wolverines looking like a much improved team.

We know you’re watching, and that’s where we come in. If you don’t know how to find the game — whether your’re watching it on television, streaming the game, or listening on the radio — we’ve got all you need to know about how to find it on the next page.

Let’s get after it.

Week 14 College Football Bowl Projections

With two weeks left in the college football season, let’s look at where each team currently stands in the bowl picture.

Welcome to the second set of bowl projections that I will be providing. Make sure not to miss Phil Harrison’s projections. Every week, Phil projects to the end of the season and gives you where he thinks the Big Ten teams will end up.

I, however, will not be predicting who will win games. Instead, these projections are based on where every team sits now. Meaning, if the season ended today, where would every team be heading to bowl games? That way, readers can know what their team needs to do to move up or down in bowl selection order.

Now, I do have to admit that a small bit of prognosticating is necessary. There are currently only 74 bowl-eligible teams, but there are 39 bowl games. So, only for the purposes of determining who will reach bowl eligibility, I am forced to predict some games. To avoid bias as much as possible in the process, I will assume that the favored team wins each remaining game, and I will use FPI, SP+, Sagarin, and a few others to determine who is “favored.” As of today, these projections say there will be 79 bowl-eligible teams. That number includes Missouri. The Tigers’ appeal has finally been denied by the NCAA, so they will not be appearing in a bowl game.

Also, remember that nowadays, bowl projections are more of an art than a science. Most conferences no longer allow the bowls to select teams in order, but instead provide “pools” of teams for certain tiers of bowls. The Group of 5 conferences often have no selection order preference. The conferences then work with the bowls to determine which team goes where. Anything can be the cause for this–geography, fan interests, matchup quality, whether the conference thinks its team is more likely to win, or any other reason. Therefore, at the end of this article, I will provide a list of which conference pools would be tied to which bowl. That way, you have as much information as possible when figuring out where each team could be headed.

Finally, keep in mind that these are based on what would happen if the season ends today. The season does not end today, though, so things will change between now and Selection Sunday. However, this is where each team stands right now. (As we approach Selection Sunday, we will be able to hear rumors and whispers as to which team is headed where. I do my best to keep track, and my projections the morning of Selection Sunday will be based mostly on those. For now, though, all we know is that BYU has accepted an invitation to the Hawaii Bowl.)

So, without further ado, here are this week’s bowl projections:

College Football Playoff

Peach Bowl Sat, Dec 28, 8:00 PM LSU vs Clemson
Fiesta Bowl Sat, Dec 28, 4:00 PM Ohio State vs Georgia

This is simple enough. No. 1 plays No. 4, and No. 2 plays No. 3. The committee will ensure that the No. 1 team is not given a geographic disadvantage, so Ohio State will not be forced to play Georgia in Atlanta.

The times for these matchups are flexible and not yet set, but given that Ohio State vs Georgia will likely be the bigger draw, I expect that to be the game given primetime billing.

Ohio State at Michigan odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Saturday’s Ohio State Buckeyes at Michigan Wolverines sports betting odds and lines, with college football betting picks and tips

The Ohio State Buckeyes (11-0, 8-0 Big Ten East) renew acquaintances with the Michigan Wolverines (9-2, 6-2) in the Big House Saturday at 12 p.m. ET. We analyze the Ohio State-Michigan odds and betting lines, while providing college football betting tips and advice on this matchup.

Ohio State at Michigan: Three things you need to know

1. If you follow ‘Ohio State Clock’ on Twitter, by Saturday you will already know it has been 2,926 days since Michigan’s last win over Ohio State on the gridiron. The Wolverines last won in this series on Nov. 26, 2011, a 40-34 victory in the Big House.

2. The Buckeyes enter ‘The Game’ with loftier expectations than winning a gold pants charm. They enter No. 1 in the College Football Playoff rankings, and the Wolverines could knock their rivals from national title contention with a win.

3. Ohio State enters with 49.4 points per game to lead the nation, while also ranking first in first downs (28.5) and fewest points allowed (10.5 PPG).

Prediction

Ohio State 37, Michigan 27

Moneyline (ML)

Ohio State (-334) is expected to pull through in the annual rivalry game, rolling into the Big Ten Championship Game with some steam. However, laying over three times your return isn’t a wise way to manage your funds. If anything, rolling the dice on Michigan (+260) and hope for the upset. It isn’t expected to happen, however.

New to sports betting? Every $1 wagered that Michigan will win outright will return a profit of $2.60.

Against the Spread (ATS)

OHIO STATE (-7.5, -115) has dominated this series in recent years, and it’s 5-2 against the spread in the past seven trips to Ann Arbor, but the underdog is 5-1 ATS in the previous six meetings. Both teams are hot against the number lately, with OSU going 9-1 ATS in the past 10 against teams with a winning record and 8-2 ATS in the past 10 overall .

Michigan (+7.5, -106) rolls in with covers in five straight, and four in a row against winning teams. It’s also 4-0 ATS in the past four at home, but the lean is definitely to the No. 1 team in the CFP rankings.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 49.5 (-115) is the way to bet in this game. The Over is 4-1 in the past five for Ohio State on the road and 23-9-1 in the past 32 at home for Michigan. More importantly, the over is 4-0 in the past four battles in Ann Arbor, and 6-0 in the past six meetings overall in this series.

Iowa at Nebraska odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Friday’s Iowa Hawkeyes at Nebraska Cornhuskers sports betting odds and lines, with college football betting picks and best bets.

The Iowa Hawkeyes (8-3, 5-3 Big Ten West) do battle with the Nebraska Cornhuskers (5-6, 3-5) Friday at 2:30 p.m. ET in Lincoln, Neb. We analyze the Iowa-Nebraska odds and betting lines, while providing college football betting tips and advice on this matchup.

Iowa at Nebraska: Three things you need to know

1. The Cornhuskers need a victory or they’re going to be home for the holidays rather than bowling.

2. Iowa ranks 13th in total yards allowed (306.5), and it’s 19th in the nation against the pass (191.3), 22nd in rushing yards allowed (115.2) and fifth in points allowed (12.2 PPG).

3. After starting out 2-5 against the spread, Iowa has posted a 3-1 ATS mark across the past four. The Under is 8-1-1 across the past 10 after an Over result in the opener vs. Miami (Ohio).

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Friday at 3:15 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Iowa 26, Nebraska 18

Moneyline (ML)

Iowa (-228) should be able to pull off its ninth victory of the season while securing a spot in an upper-tier bowl game. Nebraska (+185) handled a defensively-challenged Maryland side last week to give itself a chance at a bowl trip, but Iowa is a great defensive club which will give the ‘Huskers fits. Nebraska has just one victory against winning teams this season, and it’s 0-5 ATS in such situations.

New to sports betting? Every $1 wagered for Iowa to win outright will return a profit of $4.40.

Against the Spread (ATS)

IOWA (-5.5, -115) is a near-elite side, especially defensively, and Nebraska (+5.5, -106) won’t roll over the Hawkeyes like they did last weekend against the Terrapins. Iowa’s offense isn’t terrible, either, as QB Nate Stanley can make the throws to be a difference-maker.

Over/Under (O/U)

PASS. The projection of 44.5 is a strong total, and Iowa’s defense has me leaning to the Under. However, the over is 9-3 in Iowa’s past 12 road games, and 14-6-1 in Nebraska’s past 21 Big Ten affairs. The Over is also 5-1 in the past six meetings in this series.

Big Ten and big game NCAA football 2019 expert picks and predictions for week 14

Our staff picks all the Big Ten and huge college football games straight up and against the spread for the last week of the regular season.

It’s officially the last regular season week of college football. We now know what’s at stake for most games around the country. It could be argued that this is the best week of every season with all the rivalries and implications at stake.

As normal, we’re predicting every Big Ten game for the week straight-up and against the spread, but since the slate is dominated by conference play at the end of things, we’ll do the same for the six games deemed to be the biggest nationally each week. We’re the judge and jury on that one. It’s called our Pick Six.

A a reminder, if there’s an *next to the pick, that means the team will win, but not cover. Also, we get our odds from BetMGM.

INSTRUCTIONS: Make your pick against the spread. For example …
– If you think Ohio State will win -3.5 over Michigan: OSU
– If you think Ohio State will win outright: OSU
– If you think Ohio State will win, but NOT cover: OSU*
– If there’s a tie, George Washington settles it via the ‘ole quarter coin-flip.

Here we go for a big week fourteen, but first, the standings that will be updated each week after all the games. Onward we go. Just keep picking, just keep picking …

First up … Big Ten early games

Badgers remain at No. 12 in latest CFP Rankings

The Wisconsin Badgers come in at No. 12 again, with a chance to rise after a potential win this week.

We are officially headed into Rivalry Week, or Week 14, of this college football season, and the Wisconsin Badgers remain at No. 12 in the College Football Playoff rankings…the biggest rankings of them all this time of year.

That should not come as much of a surprise, as the Badgers picked up a victory last week, but did not look very impressive at times against the visiting Boilermakers at Camp Randall.

In addition, they are the third-highest rated team with two losses, coming in just behind Florida and Penn State.

There were two pretty major moves featuring Big Ten Teams, though. The aforementioned Nittany Lions slid down two spots to No. 10, and the Minnesota Gophers took Penn State’s spot at No. 8.

Also, there is a new number one team this week, featuring the Ohio State Buckeyes (11-0) as the top team, taking the previous place of LSU.

Finally, the Michigan Wolverines come in at No. 13 with a major test at home against the Buckeyes this week, and the Iowa Hawkeyes are No. 17 in the current rankings.

One could argue the Big Ten is the best football conference in the land this year, with six teams in the top 17 of the rankings alone.

Though the team most likely to represent the conference would be the Buckeyes, both the Badgers and Gophers each have an outside shot to make it, of course needing to win Paul Bunyan’s Axe first this week to give the winning team a shot to face the Buckeyes.

Week 14 Big Ten power rankings, Michigan moves up before Ohio State matchup

Michigan football beat Indiana last week 39-14, how does that win affect their conference standing before taking on Ohio State?

[jwplayer u3unzbYK-XNcErKyb]

Michigan improved to 9-2 on the season with a 39-14 win over Indiana last week as it was the first time under head coach Jim Harbaugh that the Wolverines didn’t need overtime in Indiana to defeat the Hoosiers. That wasn’t the biggest game last week, as Ohio State defeated Penn State and showed signs of weakness at points in the game.

There were some wins that change up the entire rankings list ahead of the final week of regular-season play approaches as the Big Ten Championship game is next week. Check out my latest rankings.

1. OHIO STATE 11-0 (8-0)

Ohio State stays on top after they defeated Penn State 28-17 and keep their undefeated season alive. While quarterback Justin Fields had his worst performance this season by fumbling the football three times, running back J.K. Dobbins had a solid performance despite fumbling once. Dobbins finished with 157 yards and two touchdowns on 36 carries.

The defense did a solid job in making sure passing the ball would be tough for the Nittany Lions as they held both Penn State quarterbacks to just 128 yards combined and an interception. Ohio State takes on Michigan this week in the biggest game of the season for them as they try and keep their undefeated and playoff hopes alive.

2. MINNESOTA 10-1 (7-1)

Minnesota was able to shake off the Northwestern Wildcats, winning 38-22 as quarterback Tanner Morgan had another impressive performance, going 15/23 for 211 yards with four touchdowns and an interception. Minnesota also was able to rush for 212 yards and a touchdown on 39 carries.

The defense made Northwestern struggle in the passing game once again, having both quarterbacks combine by going 8/12 for 95 yards and a touchdown. Minnesota takes on Wisconsin this week as the winner takes on Ohio State next week in the Big Ten title game.

3. MICHIGAN 9-2 (6-2)

Michigan jumps over Penn State and Wisconsin despite having their losses being to them. The reason being, Michigan is playing better now than they were against the Badgers, and if they played like they did in the second half for all four quarters against Penn State, they would’ve won.

Last week they handled Indiana with ease for the first time in a while, winning 39-14. Quarterback Shea Patterson tried one-upping his performance against Michigan State by throwing for 366 yards with five touchdowns and an interception.

The defense had some struggles at first, but would later calm down and shut down the Hoosiers offense, holding the Hoosiers to 97 rushing yards on 37 carries, allowing the only two touchdowns of the game. Michigan takes on Ohio State this week as they try and play spoiler against the Buckeyes perfect season, and put a damper on their playoff hopes.

4. PENN STATE 9-2 (6-2)

Penn State falls only one spot after losing to Ohio State last week. They put up a good fight on offense, but with quarterback Sean Clifford getting injured, backup Will Levis had to step in and change up the offense. Penn State was able to get some action on the ground against Ohio State, finishing with 99 yards and two touchdowns on 36 carries.

The defense did all they could for the offense as they forced four fumbles and recovered three of them, which helped keep the game close. Fields hasn’t had any issues with turnovers this season, but this was his worst game when it came to that. Penn State takes on Rutgers this week as they look to get their 10th win of the season.

5. WISCONSIN 9-2 (6-2)

Wisconsin falls a spot as they had some troubles with Purdue before pulling away, winning 45-24. Running back Jonathan Taylor had another impressive performance with 222 yards and a touchdown on 28 carries, but the fumbling issues returned as he coughed it up twice.

The defense helped out greatly with the Badgers offense turning the football over four times. They forced Purdue to air it out as the Boilermakers could only muster up 50 yards on 20 carries. Wisconsin will try and upset the Golden Gophers next week and punch their ticket to a rematch against Ohio State in Indianapolis.

6. IOWA 8-3 (5-3)

Iowa was given a tough fight from Illinois, but pulled it out in the end, winning 19-10. Iowa had to move the ball through the air as quarterback Nate Stanley went 18/35 for 308 yards and an interception.

The defense helped the Hawkeyes lock up the victory as they forced Illinois quarterback Brandon Peters to go 16/31 for 125 yards with a touchdown, two interceptions, and a fumble. Iowa takes on Nebraska this week as they look to ruin the Cornhusker’s bowl eligibility.

7. INDIANA 7-4 (4-4)

Indiana put up a good fight against Michigan, but the injuries were too much on offense to put up any more points. Indiana was without their top wide receiver, Whop Philyor and wide receiver Ty Fryfogle would miss most of the game as well. Quarterback Peyton Ramsey went 17/29 for 217 yards with an interception and a fumble as the passing game was able to push the Wolverines back.

While the defense didn’t have an answer for Patterson, they did hold the Michigan running game in check, holding them to just 87 yards on 29 carries. Indiana takes on Purdue this week as they just are looking to improve their record for a better bowl game.

8. ILLINOIS 6-5 (4-4)

Illinois sits still after their tough fight against Iowa. While Peters struggled, the running game was able to help the offense despite never finding the endzone. They finished with 192 yards on 39 carries as they were the best thing the offense had going.

The defense couldn’t have much of an answer for Stanley, but when it came to stopping the Iowa rushing attack Illinois did just that. They held the Hawkeyes to 79 yards and a touchdown on 32 carries. Illinois takes on Northwestern this week as they look to improve their bowl game bid.

9. NEBRASKA 5-6 (3-5)

Nebraska jumps up two spots after having their way with Maryland, winning 54-7. Nebraska was able to just run the ball right through the Terrapins, getting 305 yards and four touchdowns on 57 carries.

Nebraska’s defense made Maryland regret trying to pass the football on them. Four different quarterbacks tried to attack the Cornhuskers secondary and none of them were able to do it. All four quarterbacks combined by going 7/21 for 57 yards. Nebraska will look to get into a bowl game as they try and upset Iowa in the season finale.

10. MICHIGAN STATE 5-6 (3-5)

Michigan State moves up after getting a shutout against Rutgers 27-0. Quarterback Brian Lewerke rebounded after the poor performance against Michigan, going 21/30 for 239 yards with three touchdowns and an interception.

The defense also rebounded by not allowing Rutgers to score or get over 150 total offensive yards. They held Rutgers to just 140 yards and when it came to the pass defense, Michigan State did a good job at shutting that down. They held Rutgers quarterback Johnny Langan to 57 yards and an interception as he went 8/20. Michigan State takes on Maryland this week as they look to clinch a bowl game with a victory.

11. PURDUE 4-7 (3-5)

Purdue put up a good fight against Wisconsin, but it wasn’t enough in the end for them. Quarterback Aidan O’Connell did all he could by going 26/43 for 289 yards with two touchdowns and an interception.

The defense did great at forcing turnovers on the Badgers, but they couldn’t have an answer for quarterback Jack Coan who went 15/19 for 203 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. Purdue takes on Indiana this week as they try and come up a hair short to a bowl game.

12. MARYLAND 3-8 (1-7)

Maryland had a horrible performance last week, and while the passing game couldn’t do much, the running game could at least move the ball down the field. Running back Javon Leake had eight carries for 80 yards and a touchdown as he was the only player on the team to score.

The defense struggled to stop everything Nebraska had. When it came to the passing game, Nebraska quarterback played well, going 16/25 for 194 yards with two touchdowns and an interception, even getting 94 yards and a touchdown on the ground in his 10 carries. Maryland takes on Michigan State this week as they try and ruin the Spartans postseason possibilities.

13. NORTHWESTERN 2-9 (0-8)

Northwestern put up somewhat of a fight against Minnesota but ultimately failed. The ground game was able to find the end zone more than the passing game, as quarterback Andrew Marty finished with two rushing touchdowns and 52 yards on 16 of his carries as he didn’t do poorly in the passing game by going 8/10 for 95 yards and a touchdown.

The defense couldn’t stop either the run or the pass by the Golden Gophers, allowing 423 yards as both were almost equal in the damage done to the Wildcats defense. Northwestern takes on Illinois this week as they look to get their first Big Ten conference win of the season.

14. RUTGERS 2-9 (0-8)

Rutgers got shutout this week after dropping 21 on Ohio State the week before. The ground game was the only thing that could somewhat work for them as they had 83 yards on 27 carries against a tough Michigan State defense.

Rutgers defense couldn’t defend the pass but did better in stopping the rushing game by Michigan State. Running back Elijah Collins had 31 carries for 109 yards as he was the main back for the Spartans. Rutgers takes on Penn State as they try and upset the Nittany Lions and get their first Big Ten conference win of the season.

In a season that was supposed to finally be the year for Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines to get over the hump, it’s been more of the same. Unfulfilled expectations.

On the other side, Ohio State was picked as low as fourth in the Big Ten with new coach Ryan Day taking over for Urban Meyer. However, the Bucks have just kept rolling with a high powered offense and a new look defense.

Michigan has been steadily improving as the regular season winds down. This isn’t the same team that squeaked by Army and got trucked by Wisconsin and TTUN would like nothing more than to knock the Buckeyes down a notch and give Harbaugh his first win over Ohio State.

This one is setting up to be an epic battle in the Big House. Throw the records out the window for The Game – it’s officially Michigan week!
