Ohio State men’s soccer will face Michigan in Big Ten Championship

In another rendition of Ohio State vs. Michigan, the Buckeyes will battle the Wolverines in the Big Ten Men’s Soccer Championship.

Ohio State men’s soccer has been on a roll this season, and it is set to take on the Michigan Wolverines in the Big Ten Championship Game Sunday at 2 p.m. EST.

The game will take place on the Big Ten Network.

The Buckeyes earned the No. 1 spot in the conference and were the lone team with a first-round bye.

As for Michigan, it came in 7th in the Big Ten and beat the No. 2-seeded Indiana Hoosiers on Nov. 7, following that up with a win over the No. 6-seeded UCLA Bruins on Nov 10.

Ohio State had just one foe to down in order to get where it is.

The Buckeyes beat the Washington Huskies, who were ranked No. 4 overall in the tournament. They beat them 3-1 and had a few stellar goals like the one below.

The Buckeyes are 13-1-3 on the season.

They faced Washington at SeatGreek Stadium in Illinois for the semifinal matchup Sunday and will return home to Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium for the Big Ten Tournament title on Nov. 17.

Ohio State will no doubt be the favorite, but Michigan is rolling. This should be a thrilling battle of rivals.

Future sites of Big Ten men’s and women’s basketball tournanment announced

Ohio State fans won’t have to travel far #GoBucks

The Big Ten is now a conference that stretches from sea to shining sea. The addition of Oregon, Washington, UCLA, and USC means changes are coming to be a more nationwide brand. Part of that change will be expanded locations of the Big Ten men’s and women’s basketball tournaments.

The Big Ten tournament is fairly young compared to other conferences beginning in 1998 for the men and 1995 for the women. During that period, the tournament has been played mostly in Midwest venues such as Chicago and Indianapolis. As the league grew to add East Coast schools, the tournament occasionally landed in places like Washington DC and New York. Last year Minneapolis made its first appearance as the host city, but for the most part, the tournament has alternated between the original two.

New cities have now been announced through the 2028 season. Next year, both men and women will be in familiar territory going back to Indy. Then after that, stops will be made in Detroit and Las Vegas. It looks like outside of Vegas, the tournament is still going to have a Midwest feel for the next few years.

West Coast fans probably don’t love the favoring of the Central and Eastern time zones. But with conference expansion happening so fast, this is probably the best they could do on short notice as these things are usually planned years in advance.

My guess is the tournament will go west in the next cycle. But until then, most Big Ten fans won’t have to travel quite as far to see a conference champion crowned.

ACC Tournament will feature top 15 teams beginning in 2025

The Irish men will have to get better fast.

The ACC will include California, Stanford and SMU beginning with the 2024-25 season. That will bring the total number of conference members to 18. With that clearly being too high of a number for its conference basketball tournaments, the conference decided a change was needed.

Starting in 2025, only the teams that finish in the top 15 in the conference standings will be invited to the ACC Tournament. This follows a cue from a recent decision by the Big Ten, which also will be expanding next season to the point where it also only will invite the top 15 teams in the conference standings to its tournament.

While Notre Dame’s 16th-ranked women’s team is not expected to slide to the bottom of the ACC anytime soon, the men already are there in a rebuilding season. If the new rules went into effect for this season, the Irish wouldn’t be invited to the tournament.

Hopefully, with a year of experience under their belt, the young men’s Irish team will improve enough that they still will play in the 2025 ACC Tournament. There’s a long road ahead though, and there’s no guarantee of things being any better next year. Best of luck to [autotag]Micah Shrewsberry[/autotag] and his team in reaching this new goal.

Ohio State baseball routs Nebraska, advances in winner bracket of Big Ten Tournament

The Bucks are HOT!

Many times you see adversary in athletes that they rise to the moment, and that’s exact what happened for Ohio State baseball on Tuesday night.

First off, they snuck into the Big Ten Tournament as the No. 7 seed having to play No. 2 seeded Nebraska. On top of that a rainy Omaha didn’t help the cause, as the game was pushed back, but that did not bother the Buckeyes one bit.

They jumped all over the Cornhuskers, leading 11-0 following the top of the fourth. Ohio State would then cruise to a blowout 7 inning victory, 15-2, putting their season record at 29-24 on the season.

The win keeps the Buckeyes in the winners bracket of the tournament, as they will face off against Indiana, the No. 3 seed on Thursday at 2 p.m. ET weather permitting.

Infielder Joseph Mershon was the star for Ohio State, as he went 2-for-4 with a homer, 4 RBI and two runs scored. Starting pitcher Landon Beidelschies was dominant, going 5 innings allowing just 2 hits, a walk and a run while striking out 8 batters.

Wisconsin softball makes history in Big Ten Tournament

Wisconsin softball makes history in Big Ten Tournament

The Wisconsin women’s softball team became the first No. 11 seed to reach the Big Ten Semifinal Game after a win against Rutgers on Thursday.

UW’s 7-3 victory over the No. 3-seed Scarlet Knights clinched the program’s first birth to the semis since 2019.

Pitcher Tessa Magnanimo threw a complete game and freshman catcher Hillary Bloomberg powered in a 5-RBI performance to fuel the Badgers on the offensive end of the diamond.

Bloomberg first struck in the top of the first after Danielle Lucey stole second. Bloomberg’s single brought Lucey home, and UW established an early 1-0 edge.

Magnanimo did not allow a Rutgers run until the bottom of the fourth, that before the Badgers capitalized on a few Scarlet Knight errors to take a 5-1 lead in the fifth.

Wisconsin would only allow two more Rutgers runs in the contest and finished the game with a 7-3 triumph.

UW will now face No. 2 Michigan in the Big Ten Conference Tournament Semifinal. The game will be aired on the Big Ten Network Friday night at 6:30 p.m. central
