Lamar Jackson in the concussion protocol after big hit in the end zone

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson took a massive hit in the end zone by the Buffalo Bills, sending him to the locker room.

This night has gone from bad to worse for the Baltimore Ravens. After another terrible snap from center Patrick Mekari, quarterback Lamar Jackson chased down the loose ball only to be hit by multiple defenders in the end zone and stayed down on the ground.

Jackson was taken to the locker room and will be replaced by undrafted free agent Tyler Huntley. The Ravens announced Jackson is in the concussion protocol.

It has not been a great night for Jackson, who has been harassed all game long by an aggressive Buffalo Bills defense. Jackson has completed 14-of-24 passes for 162 yards but threw an interception in Buffalo’s end zone that was returned for a touchdown on the previous drive.

While the Bills have been aggressively blitzing Jackson and the Ravens’ offense, Mekari’s snaps haven’t been great. Several have already been well off the mark, including two that have gotten by Jackson and rolled around on the ground.

Ravens vs. Bills inactives: CB Marcus Peters playing

Here’s which players are inactive for the NFL divisional playoffs matchup between the Baltimore Ravens and Buffalo Bills.

The Baltimore Ravens take on the Buffalo Bills in just mere minutes. Both squads are looking for a big win this week to head to the AFC Championship Game next week and be yet another game closer to Super Bowl LV.

For the Ravens, it’s nearly an exact repeat of the inactive list from last week. However, nose tackle Justin Ellis being out points to a difference in defensive strategy for Baltimore — away from run defense and packing guys into the secondary.

The Ravens also have cornerback Marcus Peters and offensive tackle D.J. Fluker active for tonight’s game. While that was expected, both players were listed on the injury report all week. Peters’ presence in the secondary should be a huge boost for the defense against Bills quarterback Josh Allen and wide receiver Stefon Diggs.

Ravens vs. Bills injury report: Who’s playing and who isn’t

See who is playing and who isn’t with Thursday’s injury report between the Baltimore Ravens and Buffalo Bills

The Baltimore Ravens and Buffalo Bills are about as healthy as either team could hope for in this divisional-round matchup. With Thursday being the final day of practice ahead of Saturday night’s kickoff, no players were ruled out and only a few were listed as questionable.

For the Ravens, cornerback Marcus Peters and outside linebacker Matthew Judon returned to the practice field. Peters was limited on Thursday but listed as questionable, which is a good sign for his chances of playing. Judon returned from his illness completely on Thursday and wasn’t listed at all on the final game status, meaning he’s good to go as well.

There’s a little bit of “Groundhog Day” going on this week as the Baltimore Ravens’ injury report might as well be copy-and-pasted from Tuesday to Wednesday. Just as was the case on Tuesday, there are some pros and cons to that.

Both outside linebacker Matthew Judon and cornerback Marcus Peters remained out on Wednesday while offensive tackle D.J. Fluker remained limited. While there were two new additions to the list, both were given the day off without an injury designation.

It’s nice to see the injury report not continue to get larger daily, but it also presents a problem if Judon and Peters don’t return to practice on Thursday. The Ravens are going up against the third-best passing attack in the league on Saturday and both Peters and Judon are key pieces of Baltimore’s pass defense.

Take a look at Wednesday’s injury report for both the Ravens and Bills.

The Baltimore Ravens conquered their playoff demon, beating the Tennessee Titans, 20-13, in the wild-card round of the playoffs. But they still have a few more steps to go in order to get to Super Bowl LV, and the Buffalo Bills now stand in the way.

The Bills have been getting hot at the end of the season, much like the Ravens. But with quarterback Josh Allen playing at an MVP level and with plenty of weapons around him, Baltimore’s defense is going to have to be healthy. Unfortunately, the Ravens’ injury report on Tuesday doesn’t give us a ton of insight.

While there were only two players to miss practice Tuesday, both just so happened to be key starters on defense. Both outside linebacker Matthew Judon and cornerback Marcus Peters were listed as not practicing, while tackle D.J. Fluker was limited. Hopefully, all three can return in the coming days so Baltimore can go into this game as healthy as possible.

Ravens vs. Titans inactives: Baltimore is finally healthy

The Baltimore Ravens inactive list features nothing but healthy scratches as they look to defeat the Tennessee Titans in the NFL playoffs.

The Baltimore Ravens are looking for their first playoff win of the Lamar Jackson era and they’ll once again be looking to beat the Tennessee Titans to do so. But after battling the injury bug all season long, the Ravens are finally as healthy as they can get, seemingly for the first time in months.

All seven of Baltimore’s inactive players are considered healthy scratches. Though the list includes running back Mark Ingram, the play of J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards has relegated him to a distant third on the depth chart and seen him inactive for several games this season.

The defense will also get the return of cornerback Jimmy Smith, defensive end Yannick Ngakoue, center Patrick Mekari, and wide receiver Willie Snead — all players who missed Week 17 against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Ravens vs. Titans injury report: Who’s playing and who isn’t

Which Baltimore Ravens and Tennessee Titans players are in danger of missing Sunday’s wild-card playoff matchup?

The Baltimore Ravens have made the first of their two main goals this season: get into the playoffs. Now they need to beat the Tennessee Titans to advanced to the divisional round — just one step closer to Super Bowl LV. With some luck, the Ravens are getting healthier late in the season and look to have nearly every starter back in the lineup for this playoff game.

Though the injury report was peppered with big names all week long, not a single player missed all three days of practice. That has led to seven players being labeled “questionable” but not a single one “doubtful” or ruled out completely yet. And with Friday seeing the return of cornerback Marlon Humphrey, center Patrick Mekari, and outside linebacker Yannick Ngakoue to full participation at practice; there’s hope all three are in fairly good shape to play Sunday.

Take a look below for both the Ravens’ and Titans’ injury reports for the wild-card round of the NFL playoffs.

Ravens hoping improved health eliminates their biggest flaw in playoffs

As the Baltimore Ravens get healthier, can they turn what is their biggest flaw into a weapon again in the playoffs?

The Baltimore Ravens have been wildly inconsistent this season. Earlier in the season, the offense struggled to move the ball effectively while dealing with a string of games with bad turnovers and penalties. While they eventually turned it around, the defense has been going through the flip of that situation — starting the season strong only to falter recently. And with the playoffs starting this week, the Ravens’ defensive regression is their largest flaw right now, according to Touchdown Wire’s Doug Farrar.

Farrar points to Baltimore’s huge slide down in DVOA (Defense-adjusted Value Over Average) since Week 10 as a major concern. The Ravens went from fifth overall to 27th, seeing both the run and pass defense drop in their own respective rankings. That lines up well with their struggles against even mediocre offenses over that timeframe and should rightfully be the biggest concern for the Ravens heading into the playoffs.

Baltimore has the Tennessee Titans’ second-ranked offense to deal with this week, including top running back Derrick Henry and an underrated quarterback in Ryan Tannehill. If the Ravens want to go to Super Bowl LV, they’ll likely have to contend with other top offenses like the Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills on the road through the playoffs. No matter how well Baltimore’s offense is playing, the defense’s struggles could derail their postseason hopes if they aren’t cleaned up in a hurry.

However, there’s quite a lot of hope here as well. Though Farrar only briefly mentions it in his breakdown, the Ravens have been one of the most injured teams in the league this season. And with the list of names missing games, it’s easy to see how those injuries and losses have been responsible for Baltimore’s defensive difficulties.

The Ravens have missed guys like Campbell, Williams, Marcus Peters, Jimmy Smith, Anthony Averett, Justin Madubuike, Pernell McPhee, Iman Marshall, Matthew Judon, and Yannick Ngakoue for at least one game due to injury or COVID-19 just since Week 11. With that many starters and impact players sitting on the bench, it’s no wonder the defense slipped so much in the DVOA rankings.

Looking back to Week 11 against the Titans, the Ravens were missing defensive linemen Calais Campbell and Brandon Williams. Though Baltimore managed to keep Henry in check for most of the game, not having much of a rotation on the defensive line meant the starters were gassed when the game went to overtime. In addition, linebackers and defensive backs had to commit to coming down in run support and blitzes to help out, creating big plays elsewhere.

Granted, it’s not like the Ravens spent the last five weeks battling the toughest offenses the league has to offer, but they have improved as players have returned to the lineup.

With Ngakoue and Williams back on the field, Baltimore shut down both the New York Giants and Jacksonville Jaguars’ run games, holding them to a combined 116 rushing yards (good for a 3.4 yards-per-carry average) and no rushing touchdowns while picking up 11 combined sacks in those two games. Peters and Campbell returned in Week 17 to face off against a Cincinnati Bengals team fresh from putting up 770 total yards and 64 total points against the Pittsburgh Steelers and Houston Texans. The Ravens held the Bengals to a paltry three points and 195 total yards, most of which largely came in garbage time with starters resting.

There’s a “good chance” guys like Campbell, Smith, Ngakoue, Peters, and others will be healthy enough to return to action this week against the Titans. If the last three weeks are any indication of what to expect as Baltimore gets healthy, the Ravens should be close to top form once again. Except they have the offense to take advantage of it now.

John Harbaugh: ‘Good chance’ Yannick Ngakoue and Jimmy Smith return for playoffs

With the Baltimore Ravens battling injuries in recent weeks, there’s hope they’ll return defensive stars Yannick Ngakoue, Jimmy Smith

https://embed.sendtonews.com/oembed/?SC=Au3bVSK3CU-1093888-7498&format=json&offsetx=0&offsety=0&floatwidth=400&floatposition=bottom-right&float=on

The Baltimore Ravens have looked fine-tuned for a playoff run over the last five weeks. The offense has been steadily improving to the point they rushed for over 400 yards on the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 17, while the defense played significantly better football with cornerback Marcus Peters back in the lineup. As they turn their attention forward to the wild-card matchup against the Tennessee Titans, the Ravens might just be getting even healthier.

Health has been a major concern for Baltimore all season long as the team has seemingly added more names to the injury report over the last five weeks than it’s taken off. Granted, it wasn’t asking for a lot, but against Cincinnati, the Ravens appear to have come out unscathed.

“I think we got through this pretty well, I haven’t been informed of anything serious,” coach John Harbaugh told reporters after Sunday’s game.

Harbaugh also seemed optimistic about the potential return of impact players like defensive end Yannick Ngakoue and cornerback Jimmy Smith, who missed Week 17.

“I do think there’s a good chance we’ll get those guys [Ngakoue and Smith] back,” Harbaugh continued. “I can’t say for certain but I do think there’s a good chance for those guys to play.”

The Ravens have been missing starters on both sides of the ball in recent weeks and it’s definitely been felt on defense. Peters, Ngakoue, Smith, Calais Campbell, Anthony Averett, and Derek Wolfe have all missed at least one game over the last five weeks. With only Smith and Ngakoue missing this last regular-season game, there’s reasonable hope Baltimore can get all of their major defensive players back in time for this playoff matchup.

The return of Peters was a breath of fresh air on Sunday, seeing Baltimore’s defense play significantly better than it had the previous four weeks en route to shutting down the Bengals’ passing attack to just 48 net yards. If the jump in play noticed when guys like Peters and Campbell have returned to the lineup is any indication, the Ravens’ defense should be in rare form next week.

They’ll need to be in order to pick up their first playoff win of the Lamar Jackson era and get another step closer to the ultimate goal of winning Super Bowl LV.
