7 free agent pass rushers the Eagles could consider after Derek Barnett suffers torn ACL

Seven free agent pass rushers the Philadelphia Eagles could consider after Derek Barnett suffers torn ACL

The Eagles are down a pass rusher after Nick Sirianni confirmed that Derek Barnett suffered a torn ACL in Sunday’s win over the Lions.

Barnett, the Eagles’ 2017 first-round pick is out for the season after re-signing with the team on a two-year deal this offseason.

“Derek will be out and he tore his ACL, and obviously that’s a big blow for us,” Nick Sirianni said Monday. “I love the way Derek Barnett comes to work every single day and plays with grittiness and toughness and (plays) nasty. “I am a huge Derek Barnett fan and he’ll be missed, so that sucks. I hate that for him, I hate that for this team. I can’t tell you how much I think of Derek.”

Barnett exited the game midway through the third quarter and he’s among the top edge rushers in the league when it comes to applying pressure to opposing quarterbacks.

Philadelphia has Tarron Jackson on the roster and could elevate from within, but we’re provided seven free agent options as well.

Should the Ravens re-sign OLB Pernell McPhee?

We look at if the Ravens should re-sign outside linebacker Pernell McPhee

The Baltimore Ravens haven’t been able to find a consistent pass rush over the last few seasons. They’ve been able to generate a bit of pressure on opposing quarterbacks, but their sack numbers haven’t been up to par with other Baltimore defenses of the past.

When looking at the Ravens’ outside linebackers, one player who is scheduled to hit free agency in the coming weeks is Pernell McPhee. The veteran has been a very solid presence both on and off the field for the team, but has seen his statistics and snaps decline in recent seasons.

McPhee spent the first four years of his NFL career with Baltimore before signing a big-money deal with the Chicago Bears. After his days in Chicago as well as a stop in Washington, he ended up returning to the Ravens in 2019, where he established a role for himself once again. However, in 2021 he only accumulated 14 tackles and one sacks in 10 games while missing some time due to an injury.

There are a lot of unknowns surrounding Baltimore’s outside linebackers. Tyus Bowser suffered a torn achilles in the the team’s Week 18 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. McPhee and Justin Houston are slated to be free agents. Daelin Hayes had an injury-riddled rookie campaign, and Jaylon Ferguson hasn’t given the franchise much through his first three years. At the moment, Odafe Oweh is the team’s best (and healthiest) player at the position, with the other five being unknowns.

McPhee is a veteran leader, and has embraced that role during his second stint with the franchise. However, it isn’t known whether McPhee wants to suit up for another year or whether he’s ready to hang up his cleats and retire. If he wants to play in 2022, it wouldn’t be shocking to see the Ravens have some interest in him. However, the organization will likely explore all avenues to improve their outside linebacker room, and if they bring in more talent and don’t have a spot for McPhee, the veteran could find himself on a new team next season.

Ravens announce inactives for Week 17 matchup vs. Rams

The Ravens released their inactive players list ahead of their Week 17 matchup with the Rams

The Baltimore Ravens are set to take on the Los Angeles Rams in a high-stakes Week 17 matchup. Baltimore needs a win if they want to have a realistic shot at making the playoffs, and they’ll have to do so against a talented Los Angeles team.

Ahead of the contest, the Ravens released their inactive players list, which was once again headlined by quarterback Lamar Jackson. The quarterback was seen limping noticeably in his return to the practice field on Wednesday and didn’t practice after that.

The Baltimore defense is going to have its hands full with the Rams offense, and it’s going to be a lot tougher without outside linebackers Odafe Oweh and Pernell McPhee, as well as cornerback Anthony Averett. The good news is that the defense will get back a lot of their players from the Reserve/COVID-19 list who were out last week so the pass rush should be able to handle the loss of Oweh. wide receivers James Proche II and Miles Boykin and guard Ben Powers round out the list for the Ravens.

Fullback Patrick Ricard is active today, which will help out the running game for Baltimore. With Ricard and tight end Nick Boyle both playing, the Ravens’ offense might be able to make some plays and keep up with the high-powered Los Angeles Rams offense.

Ravens activate three players from Reserve/COVID-19 list, add one

The Ravens activated three players from the Reserve/COVID-19 list on Monday while adding one more to the list

For two-straight seasons, the Baltimore Ravens have seen COVID-19 impact their roster in a major way. With a league-wide outbreak currently decimating many teams, Baltimore has certainly felt the impact of having so many players out, not just with COVID but due to injuries as well.

On Monday, the Ravens announced some good news as they revealed that they had activated outside linebacker Pernell McPhee, cornerback Jimmy Smith and practice squad wide receiver Jaylon Moore from the Reserve/COVID-19 list. However, they also placed practice squad safety Tony Jefferson on the list.

The returns of Smith and McPhee couldn’t have come at a better time, as Baltimore is extremely decimated at both cornerback and outside linebacker. Smith has missed the past two games, while McPhee has been out for a few months after spending time on injured reserve and then immediately being placed on the COVID list upon activation.

The loss of Jefferson is a bigger one than some people might think. He played very well in Week 16 against the Cincinnati Bengals, and has been a solid depth piece since returning to Baltimore.

Ravens add two more players to Reserve/COVID-19 list, activate one

The Ravens added two more players to the Reserve/COVID-19 list on Tuesday

The Baltimore Ravens have shuffled around their roster quite a bit during the 2021 season, as they’ve dealt with countless injuries, COVID-19 and more. They’ve still managed to work their way to an 8-6 record, although they have lost three straight amidst a brutal number of losses on both sides of the ball.

On Tuesday, Baltimore announced that they placed outside linebacker Pernell McPhee and practice squad cornerback Kevin Toliver on the Reserve/COVID-19 list while activating practice squad wide receiver Binjimen Victor from the list.

With McPhee and Justin Houston being added to the list in the last few days, the Ravens currently only have three outside linebackers on their roster in Tyus Bowser, Odafe Oweh and Tyus Bowser. If McPhee and Houston are able to play on Sunday it will leave Baltimore without two important players on their front seven.

Ravens place one player on Reserve/COVID-19 list, activate one player from IR

The Ravens placed one player on the Reserve/COVID-19 list and activated another from injured reserve

The Baltimore Ravens have seen their roster get decimated by multiple things during 2021, including injuries, COVID-19, and more. They’ve had to adopt a true next man up mentality, and have an 8-6 record to show for it through 15 weeks so far.

On Monday after Baltimore’s loss to the Green Bay Packers, the Ravens announced that they placed outside linebacker Justin Houston on the Reserve/COVID-19 list while activating outside linebacker Pernell McPhee from injured reserve. It’s a trade of outside linebackers essentially, with Houston going out and McPhee coming in.

Houston is having a good season for the Ravens, accumulating 29 total tackles and 4.5 sacks. If he is unable to play in Week 16 for Baltimore it will be a big loss, as he can get to the quarterback with ease. McPhee missed five games with a knee injury, but now makes his return to a Ravens’ defensive unit that needs all of the healthy players that it can get.

Ravens make multiple roster moves ahead of Week 11 matchup vs. Bears

The Ravens announced a series of roster movies ahead of their Week 11 matchup with the Bears

The Baltimore Ravens have been shuffling their roster around at a rapid pace ever since before the 2021 season began. Every team makes constant changes to their roster as the year goes along, but Baltimore has been dealing with a massive amount of injuries as the year has gone on, so they’ve added and taken off a lot of players to and from injured reserve.

On Saturday, the Ravens announced multiple roster moves. They activated guard Ben Cleveland from injured reserve while also placing outside linebacker Pernell McPhee on injured reserve.

Cleveland has been out of action ever since Week 5 against the Indianapolis Colts, where he suffered a knee injury. McPhee was already ruled out for Week 11, but his placement on injured reserve opens up a spot on the active roster.

Baltimore also signed guard/defensive tackle Kahlil McKenzie to the active roster, while also elevating quarterback Trace McSorley and inside linebacker Joe Thomas from the practice squad.

McKenzie provides depth on both offense and defense, as the team has been cross training him at guard after starting the year as solely a defensive tackle.

McSorley gives the Ravens an insurance policy in the event that quarterback Lamar Jackson can’t suit up on Sunday as he battles an illness. Thomas provides some inside linebacker depth.

Carpenter signed with the team’s practice squad a few weeks ago, and was elevated to the active roster for Baltimore’s Week 10 loss to the Miami Dolphins

Ravens release first injury report for Week 6 matchup vs. Chargers

The Ravens released their first injury report of the week ahead of their Week 6 matchup with the Chargers

The Baltimore Ravens are set to take on the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 6 of the 2021 season. It should be a very entertaining game as both Baltimore and Los Angeles boast 4-1 record through the first five games of the year and have extremely talented rosters on both sides of the football.

On Wednesday the Ravens released their first injury report of the week leading up to their matchup against Los Angeles. Baltimore held a walk-through practice, so the report reflects an estimation of how players would have participated if the team had practiced in a normal fashion.

Safeties DeShon Elliott (quad) and Geno Stone (thigh) would have been limited participants, beginning this week like they had left off last week. Offensive lineman Alejandro Villanueva (knee) also would have been limited, but he was able to suit up in Week 5 against the Indianapolis Colts.

In terms of who didn’t practice, offensive lineman Ronnie Stanley (ankle) wouldn’t have suited up, and the same goes for Sammy Watkins (thigh). Outside linebacker Pernell McPhee got a rest day.

Ravens release Thursday injury report for Week 2 vs. Chiefs

The Ravens released their second injury report of the week for their Sunday night matchup against the Chiefs

The Baltimore Ravens have been dealing with a plethora of injuries over the last few weeks. The organization is trying to find players to fill in for others who are no longer able to play with ailments, and have been adding, subtracting, promoting, and everything else to make sure they put the best team on the field for Sunday night against the Kansas City Chiefs.

The injury bug seems to have hit the Ravens hard again on Thursday. Baltimore released their second injury report of the week and many of the players featured take first-team reps on either the offensive or defensive sides of the ball.

For the second consecutive day, wide receiver Marquise Brown, offensive tackle Ronnie Stanley, defensive end Derek Wolfe and cornerback Chris Westry did not participate in practice. Stanley is still recovering from an ankle injury he suffered in 2020, although he was able to suit up in Baltimore’s Week 1 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders. Wolfe’s back/hip injury has kept him out of practice for weeks, and Brown is dealing with an ankle issue. It was also reported that Westry has a torn lateral meniscus which could put him out of action anywhere from 4-8 weeks.

Outside linebacker Daelin Hayes and cornerbacks Marlon Humphrey and Jimmy Smith continued to have limited participation. Smith has a good chance to play on Sunday with a second day of limited reps while Humphrey is dealing with a back issue. Hayes is also making a case to be back on the field Sunday after missing Week 1 with an ankle injury.

There were a few new faces on the injury report on Thursday as well in outside linebacker Pernell McPhee (non-injury related) and wide receiver Devin Duvernay (groin).
