His evaluation, per 247Sports:

“Light edge rusher that needs to add mass at the next level. Has the versatility to line up with a hand down, in a stand-up role on the edge or as an off-the-ball linebacker. Extremely patient and instinctive player. Trusts his athleticism. Runs well in space and will strike and accelerate through contact. Comfortable and aware in pass drops. Plays with great timing as a second level pass rusher. Nimble and intuitive in tight areas. Has the want-to and athleticism to fight through blocks to turn the corner as a pass rusher. Great closing speed to the football. There is some frame and body type uncertainty as a line-of-scrimmage defender. Impact Power Five starter that has the ability to be an early round NFL Draft pick.”

Five-star defensive back Gaโ€™Quincy โ€œKoolaidโ€ McKinstry took to Twitter on Monday morning to announce that he plans to make his college commitment Oct. 25. McKinstryโ€™s final three is between Auburn, Alabama and LSU.

The Pinson Valley star is rated as the No. 1 player in Alabama, the nationโ€™s No. 1 cornerback prospect and the No. 23 overall prospect in the 2021 class, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. Auburn is currently the favorite to land him according to the 247Sports Crystal Ball.

His scouting report, per 247Sports:

“Possesses a lean build with good length and stature for a cornerback. Tested as a good athlete prior to his junior season and should continue making progress on that front as he spends more time in the weight room over the next few years. In addition to the football field, shows his athleticism as an above-the-rim basketball player and one of the better hoopers in Alabama. Is an outstanding and productive two-way player on the gridiron, starring as a receiver and corner for Pinson Valley. Has elite ball skills as a corner and would also be a top prospect as a receiver if he wanted. Shows the ability to consistently pluck the ball at his highest point and win in contested situations on both sides of the ball. In addition to high-pointing and out-jumping the competition, also shows the ability to locate and track the ball downfield. Makes difficult plays at a high rate and finds multiple ways to effect the game. Instinctive in coverage and shows the ability to read the quarterback’s eyes and break on the ball. Impresses with his competitive nature. Will need to continue honing his coverage technique as a cornerback, which should come once he focuses on the sport and position full time. Projects as an impact multi-year starter at the Power 5 level with the upside of developing into an early round draft pick.”

Several Auburn commits had big games Friday night, but none had bigger than future Tiger quarterback Dematrius Davis.

Davis, a 4-star recruit and the No. 8 dual-threat quarterback nationally in the 247Sports Composite, completed 14 of 20 passes for 197 yards, one touchdown and one interception. He also had 78 rushing yards and a touchdown on 14 carries.

The rushing touchdown, a spectacular 20-yard run, put the game away and is the reason he went viral and drew the praise of NFL star Lamar Jackson.

The Mustangs have won two Class 6A Division I state titles under Davis who is now 38-2 as a starter in high school.

Other notes

Ahmari Harvey, 4-star safety, had another big game for Florida State University School, scoring his second and third touchdowns of the season. He returned his second kickoff for a touchdown and recorded a pick-six, both of which can be watched here, in his team’s 30-14 victory.

Armoni Goodwin didn’t find the endzone this week but had another big day for Hewitt-Trussville. Goodwin, the Tigers highest rated offensive player and fourth best player in Alabama and the No. 93 player in the country, had 12 carries for 126 yards, including a 70-yard carry that set up the deciding field goal in the fourth quarter.

Tar’varish Dawson had a 77-yard touchdown reception in Lehigh Acres 21-16 loss.

Auburn continues to be the favorite to land 4-star defensive end Jeremiah Williams and recently picked up another prediction in their favor, the fourth that favors them. Williams is scheduled to announce his decision on Oct. 10 and has reportedly already made his decision.

Auburn recruiting: Names and dates to know as well as top performers

Not many program had a better August than Auburn from a recruiting standpoint.

[jwplayer 7IkeSN2U-er0jUifI]

Not many program had a better August than Auburn from a recruiting standpoint.

The Tigers landing commitments from four-star safety Ahmari Harvey, four-star defensive tackle Marquis Robinson, three-star defensive end Tobechi Okoli and four-star wide receiver Malcolm Johnson Jr, who later reclassified to 2020 and has since enrolled at Auburn.

The big month gave Auburn 13 commits and the No. 19 recruiting class in the country.

Since then, the Tigers lost a commit (3-star offensive tackle J’Marion Gooch), and have not landed a commit in September but still appear to be in good shape and have the potential to put together a nice class.

Here are some important names, dates and performances from Auburn commits and targets.

Top performers

Armoni Goodwin continued his hot start to the year with another two-touchdown performance. The 5-foot-8, 190-pound running back ran for 152 yards and had touchdown runs of 52 and 25-yards for Hewitt-Trussville. He has now rushed for 648 yards and 10 touchdowns on 60 carries (10.8 yards per carry) in four games. Goodwin is the Tigers highest rated offensive player and is seen as the fourth best player in Alabama and the No 93 player in the country, according to the 247Sports composite.

Ahmari Harvey wasted no time making his first big play of the season. The four-star safety out of Tallahassee, FL returned a kickoff for a touchdown is his first game of the season.

Names to know

Jeremiah Williams, 4-star DE

Williams is a major Auburn target at a premium position and has the Tigers in his final group with Florida, Georgia and Oklahoma. The Tigers are currently the favorite to land Williams, according to the 247Sports Crystal Ball with all three predictions favoring them. Williams will announce his commitment on Oct. 10 and has already made his decision.

Gaโ€™Quincy McKinstry, 5-star CB

The secondary is a major need for Auburn and landing McKinstry would go a long way in addressing that need. The top player in Alabama has been saying he could commit at any time and it is likely down to Auburn, Alabama and LSU. Auburn may have an ace up their sleeve here with the success of their basketball program and the charismatic Bruce Pearl. McKinstry wants to play football and basketball at the next level and all three of his schools want that as well. Another notable factor is his relationship with his former high school teammate and Auburn quarterback Bo Nix. Auburn is the Crystal Ball leader but never count out Alabama when discussing in-state players of this caliber

Kamari Lassiter, 3-star CB

Not many 3-star recruits have a final trio of Auburn, Georgia and Clemson. Auburn has the lone Crystal Ball prediction for Lassiter but this recruitment is still very open. Auburn and Georgia both have major needs at corner and Clemson has made him a priority

Amarius Mims, 5-star OT

This is a long shot for Auburn but whenever an elite offensive tackle shows interest it is worth the gamble. Auburn has need for linemen and certainty one of his caliber, but this would come as a surprise.

Key Dates

Sept. 25: Diego Pounds (three-star OT) to announce his decision.

Oct. 10: Williams is scheduled to announce his decision.

Oct. 14: Mims is scheduled to announce his decision.

Auburn OT target sets commitment date

It has been over a month since Auburn landed its last football commitment but that could change Friday.

[jwplayer AWBAMRau]

It has been over a month since Auburn landed its last football commitment but that could change Friday.

Three-star offensive tackle Diego Pounds will announce his decision at 3:30 EST. The Auburn target has Auburn, Penn State, North Carolina and LSU as his finalists and told 247Sports that he has, “Found my home. I felt like I fit there and itโ€™s my type of people and i love the coaches and the program.”

Penn State is the 247Sports Crystal Ball favorite for the 6-foot-6, 305-pound Pounds who is the nationโ€™s No. 38 offensive tackle, according to the 247Sports Composite.

He also previously talked with 247 about his final schools.

Auburn: “Auburn has a beautiful campus and they’re really good in football and me and Coach (Jack) Bicknell have a connection going. I just like Auburn. Auburn grabs my attention.”

LSU: “Defending National Champs, great facilities, great people and I’m from down South. SEC is the best football, I love to compete and that’s where you can go compete.”

North Carolina: “They’re cool right now. Mack Brown is a legend. Can’t go wrong with that and all my boys are committed there.”

Penn State: “The offensive line coach, it’s a connection that’s just insane. From a football standpoint they’re good and academic standpoint they’re great and the fanbase is crazy.”

UGA recruiting target 4-star Jeremiah Williams sets commitment date

Four-star 2021 defensive end recruit Jeremiah Williams will pick from the Georgia Bulldogs, Auburn Tigers, and more.

The Georgia Bulldogs made Jeremiah “Scooby” Williams’ top four schools. Williams is a member of the class of 2021 and narrowed his list to Georgia, Auburn, Florida and Oklahoma earlier this year.

Williams will have plenty of time to make his decision. He is projected to join the Auburn Tigers, but anything can happen in SEC recruiting battles. Georgia faces the Tigers before his commitment date, so maybe that will influence his decision.

It was surprising to see him trim the Crimson Tide from his top schools. Notably, he plays with another elite defensive lineman (Tim Keenan), who has committed to Alabama.

Williams is a four-star defensive, who plays at Ramsay High School and is from Birmingham, Alabama. Williams announced his upcoming commitment date of Oct. 10 via his Twitter account:

The Georgia Bulldogs have 15 commitments in the class of 2021. Kirby Smart, Dan Lanning and the Bulldog defense have one edge rusher commitment at the moment. Georgia recently lost a commitment from edge player Elijah Jeudy, who had committed to UGA in the spring.

3-star offensive tackle flips from Auburn to Tennessee

The offensive tackle first committed to Auburn back in April.

Auburn lost one of its big commitments on Monday.

Three-star offensive tackle J’Marion Gooch announced that he has flipped from the Tigers to his home state Tennessee Volunteers.

The 6-foot-7.5, 358-pound Gooch originally committed to Auburn back in April.

Auburn receives commitment from 4-star safety

The Tigers steal one out of Tallahassee.

Another day. Another boom for Gus Malzahn.

On Friday, Auburn received the commitment from 4-star safety Ahmari Harvey over Texas A&M and Florida State. He is the No. 8 safety in the 2021 recruiting class, per 247Sports.

Out of Tallahassee, Harvey is the 177th overall player int he class, standing 5-foot-10 and weighing 171 pounds.

From 247Sports scouting report:

Not the biggest defensive back. Should be able to pack on muscle once in college. A natural playmaker with great ball skills that has produced at the high school level. Uses superb leaping ability to his advantage. Not afraid to lower his head and strike a ball carrier in run support. Can work the slot and play man coverage, but looks more relaxed when lined up over the top. Will need to get faster at the next level as he will no longer be the best athlete on the field. Likely a multi-year starter for a Power 5 program with the upside there to develop into an NFL Draft pick.

Auburn picks up commitment from No. 5 JUCO cornerback

The Tigers landed the commitment on Monday afternoon.

It wasn’t more than a few minutes after Auburn’s Week 1 opponent for the 2020 college football season was announced when the Tigers picked up a big commitment for the 2021 season.

Kamal Hadden, the No. 5 JUCO cornerback in the nation, announced that he has committed to the Tigers.

Out of Independence CC, Hadden is the No. 28 overall JUCO player in the 2021 signing class. In 2019, he made 21 tackles, eight passes broken up, three forced fumbles and an interception.
