Chicago struggles against righty pitching and Atlanta is at its best against right-handers. In this equation, Morton is the sharper of the two righties these clubs will see at the outset.

Look for a bounce from a Braves offense that was shut out in both ends of a home doubleheader against the Arizona Diamondbacks Sunday but leverage the run line. The current straight-up tag is too rich.

Granted, the Braves came into 2021 with World Series or bust expectations and it would be slightly miraculous if Arizona was in the Wild Card play-in game, but this is just too good of a price given these teams’ current forms.

Arizona is 24-17 on the run line as a road dog since the beginning of last season and Atlanta is just 12-25 RL as a home favorite over that span.

Over/Under (O/U)

Slight “LEAN” to the OVER 9 (-105) for a quarter unit if at all because I prefer the sides more than the total in Diamondbacks-Braves.

If he sits, this is a PASS. There’s no telling how the Braves will respond with their sparkplug out of the lineup. Meanwhile, the Yankees have had more than a full day to think about their 5-game skid and current struggles. They went 2-8 in their last 10 games with a .194 team batting average while striking out 94 times.

Also, current Braves batters have hit well vs. Hendricks, they are slashing .292/.350/.478 with 4 home runs and 14 RBIs in 113 at-bats.

Technically, seven of these at-bats are against Braves pitches and fourth-year phenom OF Ronald Acuña Jr. has went yard in one of his three plate appearances vs. Hendricks.

In fact, this Atlanta lineup is way more dangerous now than in Hendricks’ first three starts vs. the Braves. Hendrick’s last start against Atlanta was in 2019 and he allowed 10 hits and seven runs (two earned) including two home runs.

PASS on the run line since the Braves +1.5 (-160) is a little out of my price range and Chicago enters the game with an obvious edge in the starting pitching match-up.

Over/Under (O/U)

PASS with a lean to the Over 8.5 (-120) because the “sharp” side of the market is betting the Over, I envision Atlanta’s lineup getting good wood on Hendricks’ stuff and the Braves are 7-1-1 O/U in their last nine games.

However, my hesitation to actually wager on the Over is because Hendricks is notoriously tough at Wrigley Field and the Under has cashed in Hendricks’ last four starts with 10 or more days of rest.

Miami is considered to be the “sharp” side since, at the time of publishing, close to 90% of the money bet is on the Marlins but nearly half of the bets placed are on the Braves.

Although I’m a bit leary about taking a public road dog against the reigning division champions, the Braves just lost a controversial and intense game against the Philadelphia Phillies last night and have to host a sneaky good and rested Marlins team.

Miami’s game Sunday with the New York Mets was rained out and its relievers are much fresher. Atlanta used four relievers Sunday.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

PASS because it’s out of my price range, but I wouldn’t rule out parlaying this with another similarly priced team for a plus-money payout.

Since the beginning of last season, the Marlins +1.5 (-165) have the second-best run line record in the majors as road underdogs at 26-8.

Over/Under (O/U)

TAKE UNDER 8.5 (-115) for 1 unit as the best bet in Marlins-Braves.

Alcantara is a pitcher I’m buying stock in and his numbers against the Braves are solid. He is 0-0 with a 2.41 ERA (18 2/3 IP, 5 ER), 13 K and 9 BB across 3 starts in his career against Atlanta.

The 25-year-old righty has seven straight quality starts and 10 out of 11 including games against the Rays, New York Yankees and Phillies.

Also, Alcantara’s last two outings against Atlanta (in 2019) were quality starts but he earned a no-decision in both.

I expect Alcantara to be sharp on the rubber tonight, Miami is 2-5-1 O/U and the lineup has put up 8 runs over the past five games.

Wheeler owns a 1.37 ERA over his last 19 2/3 IP against Atlanta, but overall Braves hitters own a respectable .758 OPS against him. Likewise, Morton was on the short end of the stick in last week’s meeting, but Phillies batters collectively have posted a mere .651 OPS against him.

The Atlanta offense is ready for a bounce toward more production. Figure a slate of home games as providing a boost: the Braves were 100 points better in OPS at home last season (.797 road OPS vs. .898 home OPS).
