Philadelphia Phillies at San Diego Padres odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Philadelphia Phillies at San Diego Padres odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Philadelphia Phillies (16-10) take on the San Diego Padres (14-14) Friday in the opener of a 3-game set at PETCO Park at 9:40 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Phillies vs. Padres odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: First meeting; Phillies won 5-2 last year

The Phillies head to the West Coast after taking Thursday’s game 5-0 against  the Reds in Cincinnati. It stopped a 2-game losing streak that followed a 7-game winning streak. After a slow start to the season, the Phils are 8-2 over the last 10 and have drawn within 2 1/2 games of the Atlanta Braves in the NL East. OF Kyle Schwarber has yet to find it as he’s 4-for-36 (.111) with 3 of those hits leaving the park in the last 10 games.

The Friars must have been ready to leave Denver as they dropped Thursday’s game 10-9. They were up 9-4 before giving up 6 runs in the 8th to split the 4-game series. Hot-hitting rookie OF Jackson Merrill missed Thursday’s game with a groin injury, but he’s expected to be available Friday. He’s hitting .318 with 1 HR and 12 RBIs. He’s at a cool +500 if you’re looking to get in on him for NL Rookie of the Year.

Phillies at Padres projected starters

RHP Aaron Nola vs. RHP Joe Musgrove

Nola (3-1, 3.16 ERA) makes his 6th start. He has a 1.36 WHIP, 1.6 BB/9 and 11.3 K/9 in 28 2/3 IP.

  • Last start: Win, 8 IP, 2 ER, 4 H, 1 BB, 7 K against Chicago White Sox Sunday
  • Has a 1.81 ERA in his last 4 starts since allowing 6 ER in his 1st start
  • Last 5 regular season starts against Padres: 1-3, 2.83 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, 40 K in 35 IP

Musgrove (3-2, 5.74 ERA ERA) makes his 7th start. He has a 1.53 WHIP, 3.2 BB/9 and 6.6 K/9 in 31 1/3 IP.

  • Last start: Win, 7 IP, 3 ER, 5 H, 0 BB 3 SO Sunday against Toronto Blue Jays
  • 4 career regular season starts vs. PHI: 1-1, 3.38 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, 24 K in 24 IP

Phillies at Padres picks and predictions

Prediction

Phillies 5, Padres 4

Moneyline

I give the Phils the edge here. Nola has been amazing since his 1st start. Current Padres have hit just .196 against Nola in 49 plate appearances. Opposing Phils have hit just .235 off Musgrove in 120 PAs, but something isn’t right with him. His fastball has dropped from 93.1 mph to 92.3 mph thus far.

Take the PHILLIES -115.

Run line/Against the spread

Nola has 7 and 9 K’s in his last 2 starts, and he has fanned 10 and 11 Padres in his last 2 starts against them. San Diego is the 5th-toughest to K, but I like the value on AARON NOLA OVER 5.5 K’S (+125).

Over/Under

The Padres are 9th with 5 runs per game (RPG), and the Phils are tied for 14th at 4.3 RPG. The Over is 7-3 in the last 10 meetings. It’s slated to be a chilly, 60 degrees with a 13-mph straight-line wind from left field to right.

So I think this is going Over, but most books have fallen back to 7.5.

PASS on the 8 number and wait for an Over 7.5.

Philadelphia Phillies at Cincinnati Reds odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Philadelphia Phillies at Cincinnati Reds odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Philadelphia Phillies (15-10) and Cincinnati Reds (14-10) meet at Great American Ball Park for the Thursday finale of a 4-game series. First pitch is set for 1:10 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Phillies vs. Reds odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Reds lead 4-2

Philadelphia pitching allowed just 14 runs over a 7-game win streak until the 2nd game of this series. The Phillies have yielded more than that over the last 2 days, losing 8-1 Tuesday and 7-4 on Wednesday.

The Reds mustered just 2 hits Monday, but on Tuesday they had 2 HRs among 9 hits in a bounce-back win. In Wednesday’s conquest, Cincinnati registered 3 extra-base hits, 5 stolen bases, and a 3-of-10 mark with runners in scoring position.

This is the final regular-season meeting between the teams.

Phillies at Reds projected starters

RHP Zack Wheeler vs. RHP Nick Martinez

Wheeler (1-3, 2.30 ERA) makes his 6th start. He has a 0.89 WHIP, 2.0 BB/9 and 10.9 K/9 in 31 1/3 IP.

  • Last outing: Win, 7.1 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 2 BB, 8 K in 9-4 win vs. Chicago White Sox Saturday
  • Career vs. Reds: 1-2, 2.98 ERA (42.1 IP, 14 ER), 36 H, 14 BB, 44 K in 7 starts

Martinez (0-0, 4.76 ERA) is tabbed for his 3rd start. He has a 1.24 WHIP, 1.1 BB/9 and 7.4 K/9 in 17 IP across 4 games.

  • Last outing: 3 IP, 0 ER, 2 H, 0 BB, 2 K in 7-5 win vs. Los Angeles Angels Saturday (pitched in relief)
  • Career vs. Phillies: 0-0, 0.87 ERA (10 1/3 IP, 1 ER), 4 H, 2 BB, 13 K in 5 games; 1st start vs. Phillies
  • Eighty-nine of 202 career appearances have been as a starter (owns a 3.16 ERA as a reliever and a 4.74 mark as a starter)

Phillies at Reds odds

  • Moneyline: Phillies -160 (bet $160 to win $100) | Reds +135 (bet $100 to win $135)
  • Run line (RL)/Against the spread (ATS): Phillies -1.5 (+100) | Reds +1.5 (-120)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 8 (O: -110 | U: -110)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Phillies at Reds picks and predictions

Prediction

Phillies 5, Reds 4

Moneyline

Wheeler has been quite good, missing bats and inducing manageable contact. He has held current Reds batters to an aggregate .676 OPS. The Philadelphia righty is backed by the more rested bullpen.

Martinez-as-a-starter brings too many question marks. In that role, he’s yielded an .801 OPS over his career. And that’s with the benefit of a .284 batting average on balls in play.

Look for a bounce-back for a Philly squad which is 5-4 on the road. BACK THE PHILLIES (-160).

Run line/Against the spread

PASS: Better leverage can be found on the ML.

Over/Under

Looking at the runs scored, allowed and expected on both ends for both nines, we should expect some upward pressure to overall scoring. But the pitching here, especially on the Philadelphia side, tamps down any enthusiasm for a bet-able lean.

TAB THE OVER 8 (-110) with just a sliver of a sliver of a lean.

Philadelphia Phillies at Cincinnati Reds odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Philadelphia Phillies at Cincinnati Reds odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Philadelphia Phillies (15-9) and Cincinnati Reds (13-10) meet at Great American Ballpark for the 3rd game of a 4-game series Wednesday at 6:40 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Phillies vs. Reds odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Reds lead 3-2

Philadelphia had a 7-game win streak snapped with an 8-1 setback Tuesday. Before falling flat with a 1-for-9 mark with runners in scoring position Tuesday, the Phillies had posted a Boeing run-scoring average (7.17) while pounding out an .885 OPS over its win streak.

The Reds mustered just 2 hits Monday, but on Tuesday they had 2 home runs among 9 hits in a bounce-back win.

Dating back to last April, Cincinnati has won 5 series meetings, Philadelphia has won 4, and neither side has tallied back-to-back wins.

Phillies at Reds projected starters

RHP Spencer Turnbull vs. LHP Nick Lodolo

Turnbull (2-0, 1.23 ERA) makes his 5th start. He has a 0.77 WHIP, 2.9 BB/9 and 9.0 K/9 in 22 innings.

  • Last outing: Win, 7 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 2 BB, 6 K in 7-0 victory vs. Chicago White Sox Friday
  • Career vs. Reds: 2-0, 1.69 ERA (16 IP, 3 ER), 9 H, 5 BB, 21 K in 3 starts
  • Owns a 4.33 ERA over 65 career games

Lodolo (2-0, 0.75 ERA) is tabbed for his 3rd start. He has logged a 0.75 WHIP, 0.8 BB/9 and 12.0 K/9 in 12 innings.

  • Last outing: Win, 6 1/3 IP, 1 ER, 7 H, 0 BB, 6 K in 7-1 victory vs. Los Angeles Angels Friday
  • Career vs. Phillies: 1-0, 2.22 ERA (24 1/3 IP, 6 ER), 19 H, 8 BB, 31 K in 4 starts

  • Over/Under (O/U): 8.5 (O: -115 | U: -105)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Phillies at Reds picks and predictions

Prediction

Reds 5, Phillies 4

Moneyline

The Phils have played a relatively weak slate so far and are a half-a-fade lean heading into this and other games in the near future because they will undoubtably be overvalued by bettors.

What the Reds add to the equation isn’t much. Consider CINCINNATI (-110) as a lean but just a sliver of one at that.

Run line/Against the spread

PASS: better leverage can be found on the ML.

Over/Under

The Under cashed Monday with the Reds offering no help in a 7-0 contest. But the Over bounced back Tuesday and is 6-2 across the last 8 Philly-Cincy games.

Both starters in this matchup have some injury history, and they have suspect early-season numbers.

BACK THE OVER 8.5 (-110).

Analyzing Tuesday’s Philadelphia Phillies at Cincinnati Reds odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Philadelphia Phillies (15-8) and Cincinnati Reds (12-10) meet at Great American Ballpark for the 2nd game of a 4-game series Tuesday at 6:40 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Phillies vs. Reds odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Tied 2-2

Philadelphia won Monday’s opener 7-0 and is 7-0 with a plus-31 run differential over its last 7 games.

The Reds mustered just 2 hits Monday. The loss snapped a 3-game win streak.

Phillies at Reds projected starters

LHP Cristopher Sanchez vs. LHP Andrew Abbott

Sanchez (1-2, 2.53 ERA) is tabbed for his 5th start this season. He owns a 1.31 WHIP, 3.4 BB/9 and 10.6 K/9 in 21 1/3 innings.

  • Last start: Win, 6 IP, 0 ER, 5 H, 1 BB, 10 K in 7-6 win vs. Colorado Rockies Wednesday; the 10 K’s tied a single-game season high
  • Career vs. Reds: 1-0, 4.09 ERA (11 IP, 5 ER), 11 H, 1 BB, 15 K in 2 starts

Abbott (1-2, 2.70 ERA) makes his 5th start. He has a 1.07 WHIP, 2.7 BB/9 and 6.6 K/9 in 23 1/3 innings.

  • Last start: Loss, 6 IP, 2 ER, 4 H, 3 BB, 6 K in 5-1 loss at Seattle Mariners Wednesday

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Phillies at Reds picks and predictions

Prediction

Phillies 6, Reds 5

Moneyline

Abbott has been aided by some generous rates around the margins. For example, his batting average allowed on balls in play is a tiny .227.

Figure the 2 bullpens as being due some regression, and that works against a Cincinnati pen with a surface ERA of 3.79 and for a PHILADELPHIA (-125) group that has filed a BABIP-spoiled 5.78.

BACK THE PHILLIES (-125).

Run line/Against the spread

PASS: better leverage can be found on the ML.

Over/Under

The Under cashed Monday with the Reds offering no help. But the Over is 5-2 across the last 7 Philly-Cincy games.

Both clubs have been at their best against left-handed pitching. Abbott’s BABIP likely has some overrating his run-prevention abilities. The Cincy offense has been riding a bit low due to the team filing a .274 BABIP when leading off innings. That’s a key clutch statistic often overlooked in how it affects scoring.

BACK THE OVER 8.5 (-115).

Philadelphia Phillies at Cincinnati Reds odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Philadelphia Phillies at Cincinnati Reds odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Philadelphia Phillies (14-8) and Cincinnati Reds (12-9) meet Monday at 6:40 p.m. ET at Great American Ballpark to start a 4-game series. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Phillies vs. Reds odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Reds lead 2-1

Philadelphia is coming off a lengthy and productive homestand. The Phillies went 8-2,concluding with an 8-2 Sunday win against the Chicago White Sox. Philadelphia is 6-0 with a plus-24 run differential over its last half-dozen games.

The Reds swept the Los Angeles Angels 3-0 over the weekend. Over their last 9 games, a streaky Cincy squad has won 3 in a row, then lost 3 in a row then won 3 straight again.

Phillies at Reds projected starters

LHP Ranger Suarez vs. RHP Hunter Greene

Suarez (3-0, 1.73 ERA) makes his 5th start. He has a 0.77 WHIP, 1.4 BB/9 and 9.4 K/9 in 26 IP.

  • Last outing: Win, 9 IP, 0 ER, 7 H, 1 BB, 8 K in 5-0 win vs. Colorado Rockies Tuesday
  • Career vs. Reds: 1-0, 2.86 ERA (22 IP, 7 ER), 16 H, 7 BB, 19 K in 7 games (3 starts)
  • Owns a 3.32 ERA across 480 career IP
  • Has logged a 3.02 ERA, 1.26 WHIP in road games since 2022

Greene (0-1, 4.35 ERA) is tabbed for his 5th start. He has logged a 1.31 WHIP, 3.9 BB/9 and 13.1 K/9 in 20 2/3 IP.

  • Last outing: No-decision, 4 IP, 1 ER, 4 H, 3 BB, 8 K in 3-1 loss at Seattle Mariners Tuesday
  • Career vs. Phillies: 0-0, 3.86 ERA (4 2/3 IP, 2 ER), 5 H, 3 BB, 5 K
  • Has been hurt by a .348 batting average on balls in play
  • Owns a 4.60 ERA over 258 1/3 career IP

  • Over/Under (O/U): 8.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Phillies at Reds picks and predictions

Prediction

Reds 5, Phillies 4

Moneyline

The Reds took 2 of 3 from the Phillies over an April 1-3 series in Philadelphia and are 5-3 over their last 8 games against the Phils.

Philadelphia’s recent offensive numbers have been inflated due to some robust clutch hitting performances.  How will Suarez bounce back after throwing 112 pitches in a Tuesday shutout over a scuffling Rockies team? He’s backed by a bullpen that has been awful so far (MLB-worst 5.78 ERA).

His mound opposite, Greene, has perhaps deserved a better fate so far. The 24-year-old Reds hurler has done well to limit hard contact, but he’s been hurt by a .348 batting average on balls in play.

The Phillies have had an easy schedule so far. Getting plus money on the home side (FanDuel Sportsbook has Cincinnati at +104) makes for solid value. BACK THE REDS +104.

Run line/Against the spread

PASS: Better leverage can be found on the RL.

Over/Under

The Over is 5-1 across the last 6 Philly-Cincy games.

This contest has just the slightest lean toward a double-digit score. The OVER 8.5 (-110) is worth some partial-unit action. The Reds ML play is the strongest in this match-up.

Chicago White Sox at Philadelphia Phillies odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Chicago White Sox at Philadelphia Phillies odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Chicago White Sox (3-15) visit the Philadelphia Phillies (11-8) on Friday with 1st pitch from Citizens Bank Park scheduled for 6:40 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the White Sox vs. Phillies odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: First meeting; Phillies won 2 of 3 games last season

The White Sox snapped a 6-game losing streak on Wednesday with a 2-1 win over the Kansas Royals to cover as +150 home underdogs. A solo HR from RF Gavin Sheets and an RBI single from CF Dominic Fletcher was enough to propel Chicago to victory. RHP Erick Fedde pitched 5.2 innings with 0 ER to pick up the win.

Philadelphia has won 3 games in a row after beating the Colorado Rockies 7-6 on Wednesday to complete the series sweep. Philly scored 4 runs in the 1st inning thanks to back-to-back HRs from DH Kyle Schwarber and SS Trea Turner to start the game. Schwarber hit 2 HR and had 3 RBIs while LHP Cristopher Sanchez allowed 0 ER in 6 innings to pick up the win.

White Sox at Phillies projected starters

LHP Garrett Crochet vs. RHP Spencer Turnbull

Crochet (1-2, 3.57 ERA) makes his 5th start. He has a 0.84 WHIP, 1.59 BB/9 and 12.31 K/9 in 22.2 IP.

  • White Sox are 1-3 in Crochet’s 4 starts
  • Has given up just 9 total ER in 4 starts, but the White Sox offense has scored just 5 runs total in that span
  • In his 4th season and 1st year as a starter, he already has his 2nd- most strikeouts in his career and has struck out 31 batters while walking only 4.

Turnbull (1-0, 1.80 ERA) makes his 4th start. He has a 0.93 WHIP, 3.00 BB/9 and 9.60 K/9 in 15 IP.

  • Phillies are 3-0 in his 3 starts and he allowed just 3 total ER in that span

White Sox at Phillies picks and predictions

Prediction

Phillies 5, White Sox 1

Moneyline

PASS.

There is no value on a Phillies (-185) squad that is 7-3 in its last 10 games to beat a White Sox (+150) team that is just 3-15 this season.

Run line/Against the spread

BET PHILLIES -1.5 (+115).

Before Wednesday, Chicago had lost 6 games in a row and 8 of its previous 9. In 7 of 8 of those losses, the White Sox lost by multiple runs. They have scored 3 or fewer runs in 7 of their last 10 games. The Phillies have scored 5 or more runs in back-to-back games and are on a hot streak. For that reason, a plus-money wager backing Philadelphia is the play.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 8 (-120).

Chicago has scored 2 or fewer runs in 3 games in a row and 6 of its last 9 games. It has held opponents to 4 or fewer runs in each of its last 3. Philadelphia has hit the Under in 2 of its last 3 and has held opponents to 3 or fewer runs in 7 of its last 10.

Colorado Rockies at Philadelphia Phillies odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Colorado Rockies at Philadelphia Phillies odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Colorado Rockies (4-14) will try to avoid the sweep as they wrap up a 3-game series against the Philadelphia Phillies (10-8) Wednesday. First pitch from Citizens Bank Park is at 6:05 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Rockies vs. Phillies odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Phillies lead 2-0

The Rockies have lost 4 straight after winning the 1st outing on their current 6-game road trip. They were shut out 5-0 by the Phillies Tuesday, a step in the wrong direction after losing a close 2-1 decision in 10 innings Monday night.

Phillies LHP Ranger Suarez pitched the 2nd complete game in MLB this season, allowing 7 hits and 1 walk with 8 strikeouts in Tuesday’s win.

The Phillies will look to pick up their 1st series sweep of the year Wednesday. They are 5-2 in their last 7 but have not won more than 2 consecutive games this season.

Rockies at Phillies projected starters

RHP Ryan Feltner vs. LHP Cristopher Sanchez

Feltner (1-1, 3.38 ERA) makes his 4th start. He has a 1.31 WHIP, 6 BB and 18 K in 16 innings.

Rockies at Phillies picks and predictions

Prediction

Phillies 4, Rockies 2

Moneyline

While the Phillies (-225) have not had a 3-game winning streak, swept a series, or won with Sanchez on the mound this season, Colorado’s (+185) struggles on the road are too much to ignore.

The Rockies have scored 2 or fewer runs in 7 of 12 road games. They have scored 1 run combined in the last 3 contests.

Feltner gives them a good shot at winning, but unless the offense can show more than it has, you can’t pick Colorado.

But at -225, it isn’t worth the action on the Phillies.

PASS.

Run line/Against the spread

Ten of the Rockies’ 14 losses this season have been by multiple runs.

The Phillies have won games by exactly 1 run this season (4 of their 10 wins have been by 1 run), but it’s more common for them to win by multiple.

The Phillies have covered the spread in 2 straight games only once this season and have the opportunity to do it for a 2nd time after their 5-run win Tuesday.

BET PHILLIES -1.5 (-110).

Over/Under

Twelve of Philadelphia’s last 13 games have finished with 8 or fewer total runs, and only one landed on 8 exactly.

Rockies games haven’t been high-scoring, either, as 6 of their last 7 have seen 8 or fewer total runs scored. Colorado has put up 3 or fewer runs in 7 of its last 9 games.

BET UNDER 8 (-115).

Pittsburgh Pirates at Philadelphia Phillies odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Pittsburgh Pirates at Philadelphia Phillies odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Pittsburgh Pirates (9-3) and Philadelphia Phillies (6-6) open a 4-game series Thursday. First pitch from Citizens Bank Park is slated for 6:40 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Pirates vs. Phillies odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: First meeting; Tied 3-3 last season

The Pirates had a 3-game win streak snapped Tuesday with a 5-3 home loss to Detroit. Pittsburgh’s closer RHP David Bednar blew his 3rd save opportunity in 4 tries, allowing 4 runs on 3 hits and a walk in the 9th. The Pirates are 6-1 on the road this season.

Philadelphia won the rubber match of their series in St Louis Wednesday 4-3. C J.T. Realmuto led the way offensively with 2 hits and 2 runs while RHP Aaron Nola pitched 6 innings of 2-run ball. The Phillies have dropped 4 of their 6 games at Citizens Bank Park this season.

Pirates at Phillies projected starters

RHP Jared Jones vs. LHP Ranger Suarez

The rookie Jones (1-1, 3.86 ERA) makes the 3rd start of his career. He has a 0.94 WHIP, 1.5 BB/9 and 13.1 K/9 in 11 2/3 innings.

  • Last start: Loss, 6 IP, 2 ER, 6 H, 0 BB, 7 K in a 5-2 home loss to Baltimore Orioles Friday
  • First appearance vs. Phillies

Suarez (1-0, 4.09 ERA) makes his 3rd start. He has a 0.73 WHIP, 0.8 BB/9 and 9.0 K/9 in 11 innings.

  • Last start: Win, 6 IP, 2 ER, 4 H, 0 BB, 4 K in a 5-2 victory at Washington Nationals Saturday
  • Career vs. Pirates: 2-0, 2.25 ERA (24 IP, 6 ER), 0.92 WHIP in 3 starts and 3 relief appearances
  • Last start vs. Pirates: No-decision, 4 2/3 IP, 6 ER, 9 H, 2 BB, 4 K in Bucs’ 7-6 home victory Sept. 27, 2023

Pirates at Phillies picks and predictions

Prediction

Pirates 5, Phillies 2

Moneyline

BET PIRATES (+125).

I’m all in on the Pirates Thursday. Pittsburgh has won 6 of their 7 games away from PNC Park this season. They have also owned southpaws, batting .284 with a perfect 5-0 record against lefties.

On the other side, the Phillies have struggled against right handers, batting just .208 on the season. They’ll have their work cut out for them against the 22-year-old Jones, who has 17 strikeouts in less than 11 2/3 innings.

Run line/Against the spread

PASS.

I’m going to focus my bet on the moneyline because of the value in the +125 odds. They’re just too juicy to pass up.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 8.5 (+100).

The Pirates will get their runs against the lefty Suarez, but this bet is more about the Phillies not being able to hit right handers. It’s almost astonishing that a lineup as talented as Philadelphia can’t get its act together when it comes to hitting righties.

The Under is 2-1 in the last 3 head-to-head meetings between these 2 clubs. The Phillies have been Under in 7 straight games, while Pittsburgh has been Under in 2 of its last 3.

Philadelphia Phillies at St. Louis Cardinals odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Philadelphia Phillies at St. Louis Cardinals odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Philadelphia Phillies (4-5) and St. Louis Cardinals (5-5) open a 3-game series Monday. First pitch from Busch Stadium is set for 7:45 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Phillies vs. Cardinals odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: First meeting; Philadelphia won 5-1 last season

Philadelphia lost 3-2 to the Washington Nationals Sunday, failing to cover as a -149 road favorite. The Phillies won the series 2-1.

St. Louis was routed 10-3 by the Miami Marlins Sunday while failing to cover as a -137 home favorite. The Cards won the series 2-1. The Cardinals allowed a whopping 7 runs in the 1st 2 innings, digging themselves into a 7-0 hole that proved to be insurmountable.

Phillies at Cardinals projected starters

RHP Spencer Turnbull vs. RHP Miles Mikolas

Turnbull (1-0, 0.00 ERA) makes his 2nd start. He has a 0.60 WHIP, 0.0 BB/9 and 12.6 K/9 in 5 IP.

  • 2023 road splits: 1-1, 8.44 ERA (16 IP, 15 ER), 24 H, 8 BB, 17 K in 4 starts
  • Career vs. St. Louis: 0-0, 9.64 ERA (4 2/3 IP, 5 ER), 7 H, 1 BB, 6 K in 1 start

Mikolas (1-1, 6.10 ERA) makes his 3rd start. He has a 1.65 WHIP, 2.6 BB/9 and 7.8 K/9 in 10 1/3 IP.

  • 2023 home splits: 3-7, 5.55 ERA (99 IP, 61 ER), 113 H, 18 BB, 78 K across 18 starts
  • Career vs. Philadelphia: 2-3, 4.54 ERA (37 2/3 IP, 19 ER), 39 H, 5 BB, 19 K in 6 starts and 1 relief appearance

Phillies at Cardinals picks and predictions

Prediction

Phillies 3, Cardinals 2

Moneyline

LEAN PHILLIES (+100).

Philadelphia has won 7 of its last 10 matchups vs. the Cardinals overall and is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings in St. Louis.

I expect St. Louis to have more trouble finding success at bat against Turnbull than Philly will against Mikolas.

This is a risky bet as neither team has looked great to start the season and  both are coming off of a loss.

Run line/Against the spread

PASS.

These teams look to be very evenly matched, so I like the Cardinals to keep this game close and cover as +1.5 (-196) underdogs, but they are not worth the risk of betting on with this heavy of a line. Bet on the moneyline and/or O/U instead.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 8.5 (+100).

The Under has hit in each of Philly’s last 4 games, including 3 straight on the road. For St. Louis, the Under is 3-2 in its last 5 games. The Under has also hit in 6 of the last 10 Philadelphia-St. Louis matchups overall and is 4-3 in the last 7 meetings in St. Louis.

Cincinnati Reds at Philadelphia Phillies odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Cincinnati Reds at Philadelphia Phillies odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Cincinnati Reds (2-1) visit the Philadelphia Phillies (1-2) on Monday with 1st pitch from Citizens Bank Park scheduled for 6:40 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Reds vs. Phillies odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: First meeting; Phillies won 4 of 7 games last season

Cincinnati won its 1st series of the year over the Washington Nationals on Sunday with a 6-5 home win on back-to-back 2-out home runs from CF Will Benson and 1B Christian Encarnacion-Strand, who had the walk-off. The Reds used 6 different pitchers with RP Lucas Sims (1-0) picking up the win.

Philadelphia avoided a sweep against the Braves with a 5-4 win on Sunday. First baseman Alec Bohm had 2 RBIs, both coming during a 3-run 7th inning which gave the Phillies the lead. The Phillies used 6 pitches with RP Matt Strahm (1-0) picking up the win and RP Jose Alvarado (1) earning his 1st save of the season.

Reds at Phillies projected starters

LHP Andrew Abbott vs. LHP Cristopher Sanchez

Abbott went 8-6 with a 3.87 ERA in 21 starts during his rookie year. He had a 1.32 WHIP, 3.62 BB/9 and 9.88 K/9 in 109.1 IP.

  • Abbott was named to the NL All-Rookie Team in 2023
  • Opened his career with 17 2/3 scoreless innings pitched to become 1st pitcher to have 3 consecutive starts without allowing a run with at least 5 innings since 1983

Sanchez went 3-5 with a 3.44 ERA in 18 starts last season. He had a 1.05 WHIP, 1.45 BB/9 and 8.7 K/9 in 99.1 IP.

  • Has appeared in 41 games in 3 years,  22 as  a starter
  • Pitched 59.1 more innings in 2023 than the previous year and his ERA dropped more than 2 runs and he had 1 less walk (16) than the year prior (17)

  • Moneyline (ML): Reds +125 (bet $100 to win $125) | Phillies -150 (bet $150 to win $100)
  • Run line (RL)/Against the spread (ATS): Reds +1.5 (-160) | Phillies -1.5 (+135)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 8.5 (O: +100 | U: -120)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Reds at Phillies picks and predictions

Prediction

Reds 6, Phillies 4

Moneyline

BET REDS (+125).

Abbott made a name for himself last year with his ability to keep runs off the board and faces a test in his 1st start of the season against a tough Phillies team. The Reds have scored 20 runs in their 1st 3 games. With their hot bats to start the season, and the momentum for a 2-out rally to win their last game, expect the Reds to take the 1st game of the series from Philadelphia.

Run line/Against the spread

PASS.

The moneyline presents more profit for Cincinnati.

Over/Under

BET OVER 8.5 (+100).

Cincinnati has been red-hot on offense to start the season and has hit the Over in each of its 3 game this season, allowing 12 total runs in its past 2 games. Philadelphia has also hit the Over in each of its 1st 3 games and has allowed 25 runs while scoring just 12. Both bullpens have not been able to keep runs off the board which will be the key factor in the Over hitting.
