At the start of this stupid season, if you had told me that Coastal Carolina would be undefeated and ranked #15 in the nation after 12 weeks of football, I’d have probably said, “Yeah, okay” because Lord Entropy is the Sun Belt’s only master. If you told me Rip Torn would also lead in rushing, I’d have believed it, too.

Yet, the Sun Belt’s Sheriff’s badge still shines on the chest of the Mountaineers, its only blemish a loss to currently undefeated Marshall. Appalachian State may be a bit longer in the tooth than the Chants, but Zack Thomas is still a unit behind center, the defense is as stingy as ever, and the citizens of Boone are plenty surly that anyone would dare question their legitimacy.

Short story shorter, Appalachian State wasn’t letting anyone besmirch the supremacy of the Mountaineers. Respect and fist bumps, App fans.

However, to dismiss the Chanticleers is to make a very big mistake; they are legit good. The Chants shut-out a Georgia State offense that puts up 39 points per game. They’re a member of the Sun Belt’s 2020 Big XII Massacre Squad. They’ve defeated #21 Louisiana in Lafayette. Coastal’s freshman QB, Grayson McCall, has been added to the Maxwell Award watch list.

Coastal Carolina’s proficiency on both sides of the ball reminds me of…Appalachian State.

The Mountaineers are also legit good – and well-rounded. The offense and defense both rank second in the Sun Belt. QB Zac Thomas is having another elite season behind center. And they made Arkansas State look like a division two school in Jonesboro.

Yet, while the Mountaineers have been solid, they haven’t been dominating. Comparing apples, Appalachian State struggled in a 17-13 win at Boone over Georgia State – the same Georgia State that Coastal demolished 51-zero in Atlanta. Sometimes, the Mountaineers’ offense stalls. Coastal always seems to coast.

Appalachian State and Coastal Carolina enjoy an early tee-time in Boone this Saturday on ESPN 2. Whoever wins gets to pin the Sun Belt Sheriff Star on their chests, even if Lord Entropy remains the law of the conference.

Updated list of this weekend’s cancelled/postponed college football games

The full list of the now 14 games that have been canceled or postponed in college football this weekend.

It seems like each time you refresh your Twitter feed this week there is more bad news for college football as yet another game is being cancelled or postponed.

That was the case for me as I just hit refresh as I sat down after lunch and the news of Utah and UCLA getting called-off showed up.

Add it to the ever-growing list as COVID-19 has hit college football hard this week and teams and conferences understandably proceed with the season under plenty of caution.

Here is a list of all the college football games that have been either cancelled or postponed for this weekend:

No. 1 Alabama at LSU
No. 3 Ohio State at Maryland
No. 5 Texas A&M at Tennessee
No. 12 Georgia at Missouri
No. 15 Coastal Carolina at Troy
No. 24 Auburn at Mississippi State
North Texas at UAB
Rice at Louisiana Tech
Memphis at Navy
Pittsburgh at Georgia Tech
Air Force at Wyoming
California at Arizona State
UL Monroe at Arkansas State
Utah at UCLA

14 games in total are off for this weekend as college football continues to play through the COVID-19 pandemic.

Down goes Oklahoma! What Kansas State upset means in big picture

The Big 12 has had a rough start to the 2020 season and that only got worse when powerhouse Oklahoma fell at home to Kansas State Saturday

For the second straight fall it’s Kansas State that has ruined Oklahoma’s hopes for an unbeaten regular season.

Oklahoma entered the day ranked third in the nation and a four touchdown favorite against Kansas State, who knocked them off last fall in Manhattan.

Despite Kansas State playing without eight players who were kept home due to positive COVID-19 tests, the Wildcats walked into Norman and managed to pull the upset.

Quarterback Skylar Thompson not only threw for 334 yards and a touchdown but also finished three Wildcats drives with his legs as he ran for three scores on the day.

Perhaps the most important thing Thompson did on the afternoon was not turn the ball over as Oklahoma quarterback Spencer Rattler had some big-time growing pains, throwing three interceptions on the day.

Oklahoma’s defense had trouble stopping the big play most of the second half as Kansas State erupted for 31 second half points after putting up just seven in the games first 30 minutes.

In what is an incredibly strange year of 2020 it’s hard to speak in absolutes just a few weeks in but it really is feeling like it’s Texas or bust for the Big 12 this fall.

Kansas State lost their only previous game this season to Arkansas State before pulling the upset today while the conference has already had it’s fair share of embarrassing losses to the Sun Belt early on.

Oklahoma will undoubtedly drop like a rock in the new polls on Sunday and have a ton of work cut out for themselves if they hope to be in the College Football Playoff yet again this winter.

If there is good news for the Sooners it’s that the loss came so early on but when considering resumes a few months from now, this loss to a Kansas State team that lost on their own home field to Arkansas State will be difficult to look past, even if the Sooners run the table from here out which is going to be difficult enough on it’s own.

Is it time to start thinking the Sun Belt Champion should warrant more consideration for the playoff than the Big 12 winner?

You may have laughed but it’s getting to be worth a conversation.

Wednesday Big 12 Morning Rush: Another game postponed

In this edition of the Big 12 morning rush, another conference game postponed due to COVID-19. Plus a player gets put on scholarship.

It is now just three days away from the Texas Longhorns season opening game against the UTEP Miners. As of right now, Texas is one of seven Big 12 games that are set to take place. As the team prepares for the game against UTEP, one player got the best news that a walk-on could receive.

Watch Tom Herman deliver scholarship news to a player’s parents

Longhorns linebacker Jett Bush found out that he was going to be placed on scholarship from his dad. Head coach Tom Herman enlisted the help of his parents to deliver the news to the team. Before you watch this video make sure you have tissues nearby, because someone is cutting onions.

Baylor-Louisiana Tech game postponed over COVID-19 outbreak

Following in the footsteps of SMU-TCU and Tulsa-Oklahoma State, the Baylor game has been postponed due to COVID-19 outbreak. The timing of the Hurricane Laura during a pandemic did not help matters. It is unclear if and when this game will be played. Louisiana Tech doesn’t have a vacant spot on Sept. 19 to allow the game to be pushed back one week. Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports was the first to report the news.

Kansas State kickoff time moved to 11:00 am

In light of the Louisiana Tech-Baylor game being postponed, it left a vacancy at 11 am for Fox. The Arkansas State-Kansas State game will now be moved up to take it’s place. It was originally set for 2:30 pm..

WHERE: Moby Arena; Fort Collins, Colorado (8,745)

SERIES RECORD: Colorado State leads the series 3-0

ODDS: Colorado State -12.5 per VegasInsider.com

The Colorado State Rams have come back strong after a blowout loss to Duke. The Rams beat Omaha 80-65 and had a nice 75-65 road win over Loyola Marymount. Nico Carvacho had a nice game against Omaha, going for 21 points, 19 rebounds, and five assists. Isaiah Stevens got the spotlight against LMU, going for 21 points, five rebounds, and five assists.

The Arkansas State Red Wolves come to Fort Collins riding a three game win streak. Since a 28 point loss to Ole Miss, the Red Wolves beat VMI, UC Davis, and Idaho by an average margin of 14 points. Canberk Kus leads Arkansas State in scoring at 14.6 ppg. The Red Wolves leading rebounder is Malik Brevard at 8.6 rpg.

The CSU Rams are going to have a length disadvantage in the majority of their matchups this season. However they should matchup well against the Red Wolves, with Kus being the only guard above 6’2″ that sees regular playing time for Arkansas State.

The Rams can’t take anyone for granted, especially with such a young team. They will need to compete like every game is the last one they will play this season. If Carvacho can be his double-double machine self and the freshman continue their growth, the Rams are going to be dangerous. Expect the Rams to continue their winning streak heading into the Cayman Islands Classic.

Rams 75-62 Arkansas State
