Kickoff time announced for the 2021 Red River Showdown

The University of Oklahoma announced the kickoff time for the 2021 Red River Showdown.

The Oklahoma Sooners have announced that the Red River Showdown will kickoff at 11:00 a.m CT on ABC. Although the Sooners first travel to Manhattan to face Kansas State and the Longhorns head to Fort Worth to battle TCU, it’s time to peek ahead to the October 9th showdown.

The week six matchup has the potential to be a top 25 affair. Texas was the highest unranked vote-getter in the USA Today SPORTS AFCA Coaches Poll  (101) and the AP Top 25 (131) following week four. UT’s 41-20 loss in Fayettville is now viewed in a more favorable light following Arkansas’ 20-10 upset win over Texas A&M last weekend. If the Longhorns can knock off TCU on Saturday, they should be back in the top 25 and in control of their own destiny two weeks from now.

In Oklahoma’s case, a win is a win. The Sooners have placed their sputtering offense on the back of a formidable defense and fought their way to a 4-0 record. While they aren’t winning games in a commanding fashion — and are paying the price in the polls because of it — their undefeated record ensures that the road to the Big 12 title game still rolls through Norman.

If OU can exorcise its Kansas State demon and UT doesn’t drop the ball against TCU, Red River is poised to carry Big 12 championship implications.

Oklahoma has won five of the last six Red River Showdowns, including last season’s 53-45 thriller that went to four overtimes.

Arkansas Razorbacks College Football Preview 2021: Offense

The offense was a wee bit better than the versions of the previous seasons, but it sure looked a lot more interesting . The new Arkansas coaching staff had Feleipe Franks at quarterback, the passing game was more efficient, and averaging 392 yards and 26 points per game wasn’t bad.

Now the offensive line has to be better in pass protection, a third down conversion would be nice, and controlling the clock just a wee bit more – even though that’s not the style under offensive coordinator Kendal Briles – has to happen at some point.

It starts with that O line. Head coach Sam Pittman is an offensive line coach by trade, and his group is experienced, if not fantastic. All five starters are expected to be back – guard Brady Latham is the best of the bunch – and now the production has to be there. The running backs have to do their part, too.

Trelon Smith was solid – rushing for 710 yards and five touchdowns with a 5.3 yard average – but he needs to be part of a rotation. He’s only 5-9 and 190 pounds, and the depth is very young and relatively untested. 6-1, 240-pound Dominique Johnson brings some thump, and Raheim Sanders – known as Rocket – will help the cause.

The season is all about QB KJ Jefferson. The talented 6-3, 240-pound passer has the arm and the upside to grow into a star, and now it’s his offense to run. There isn’t a veteran Plan B – at least not yet – if Jefferson isn’t terrific. Fortunately, the receivers are there to make everything go.

It stinks that second-leading receiver Mike Woods took off for Oklahoma, but the Hogs got their own Sooner with OU transfer Jaquayin Crawford appearing to be a keeper.

There’s a good-looking tight end in Hudson Henry, and Trey Knox and De’Vion Warren could be strong if they can stay healthy, but there’s no question who the No. 1 main man is.

Treylon Burks is going to be among the SEC’s best receivers with 6-3, 225-pound size, good deep play ability, and the toughness to be a matchup nightmare.

Tuesday morning, USA TODAY released their latest bowl projections and have projected the 10th-ranked Wisconsin to play a very unfamiliar SEC opponent.

In last week’s projections, the Badgers were predicted to play the Arkansas Razorbacks in the Outback Bowl. The drop to the Outback Bowl last week put Wisconsin outside of a New Year’s Six bowl game projection for the first time since their season has started. Unfortunately, USA TODAY predicted this week that the Wisconsin Badgers will still play in the Outback Bowl, but now against the Ole Miss Rebels.

The Badgers have never played the Ole Miss Rebels, which could make this matchup between Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin and Wisconsin head coach Paul Chryst even more exciting to see. The Rebels are currently sitting at 3-4 in the SEC West. Their three wins have come against Kentucky, Vanderbilt, and South Carolina. Ole Miss has struggled this season, including an upset by the Arkansas Razorbacks.

The College Football Playoff teams remain unchanged this week as Notre Dame, Clemson, Ohio State, and Alabama retain their projections.

Ole Miss and the Outback Bowl are definitely not what Badgers fans imagined for the end of their season, but a victory against the undefeated 19th-ranked Northwestern Wildcats this Saturday could definitely boost Wisconsin’s USA TODAY bowl projection for next week.

SEC Power Rankings: Georgia almost out of SEC Championship race

The Georgia Bulldogs, Alabama Crimson Tide, Texas A&M Aggies and Florida Gators compose the top four teams in our SEC Power Rankings.

The SEC only had a few games last week, with teams like LSU, Alabama, and Missouri on bye. The Florida Gators defeated the Georgia Bulldogs in the most important SEC East game of the season.

Georgia’s passing game has never taken flight this season and it, along with rough defensive performances against elite offenses, has cost the Bulldogs their SEC Championship hopes.

Florida is now expected to face Alabama in the SEC Championship Game unless there are multiple upsets in the upcoming weeks. It’s no coincidence that they are the top two ranked teams in SEC Mike’s latest edition of SEC power rankings.

The Georgia Bulldogs are ranked No. 4 behind the Texas A&M Aggies, who did beat Florida, but are rated behind the Gators. Texas A&M has College Football Playoff hopes that are realistic. They wouldn’t have to play in the SEC Championship Game, which will determine one team to make the College Football Playoff. The Aggies will root for Alabama to win the SEC.

Beyond the top four rankings, Arkansas has been consistent this season in a surprising development. Auburn looked impressive against LSU a couple weeks ago and Ole Miss has a quality offense, but can’t stop opposing offenses.

This week, Georgia will play at Missouri, who is rated as the No. 8 team in the conference. The Tigers have a few players suspended for the first half of the game.

Here are the full conference rankings:

SEC TV schedule released for Nov. 14: Dawgs play early

The SEC has released the conference TV schedule for Nov. 14, including UGA at Missouri, TAMU at Tennessee, LSU versus Alabama, and more.

The SEC has released the conference TV schedule for Nov. 14. College football will share the day with the Masters in what will be a special day for sports fans across the country.

The SEC will have its usual slate of quality matchups. The Georgia Bulldogs travel to face the Missouri Tigers in an SEC East clash. The game is set to have a noon kickoff. The Dawgs and Tigers will be televised on ESPN.

Texas A&M at Tennessee constitutes another great game. The Aggies will look to keep their College Football Playoff hopes alive against the upset-minded Volunteers.

The headliner for the week is Alabama at LSU. Can the LSU Tigers put up a fight against the Crimson Tide? LSU was up to the task last season, but lost a lot of talent and experience from its 2019 SEC Championship squad. The Crimson Tide and Tigers face off at 6 p.m. in what will be a night game in Death Valley.

Here’s the full SEC football schedule for Nov. 14, including the TV channels:

Lastly, the Arkansas Razorbacks at Florida Gators is an intriguing game. The Sam Pittman-led Razorbacks are playing much better this season and Florida will have just faced the Georgia Bulldogs. Could Kyle Trask and the Gators have a letdown?

UGA football drops in latest SEC power rankings

The Georgia Bulldogs drop in this edition of the SEC power rankings. Florida and Texas A&M jump UGA. Bama remains at the top.

The Georgia Bulldogs played decent in a sluggish 14-3 victory over the Kentucky Wildcats. The win featured a run-heavy attack. Perhaps the Bulldogs were keeping their cards close to their chest for next week, but UGA did not look like legitimate National Championship contenders.

Now, the Dawgs are dealing with a slew of injuries heading into Saturday’s game against the Florida Gators. That mixed with turnover-heavy quarterback play from Stetson Bennett is resulting in Georgia dropping in the latest edition of SEC power rankings.

At the top, the Alabama Crimson Tide are clearly the class of the conference. Can any team defeat or even challenge Alabama? Florida may have the best chance of any team in the conference. Kyle Trask and the Gator offense would score points against the Crimson Tide defense.

In fact, the Gators, despite their loss to Texas A&M, are moving up in the latest edition of the conference power rankings. The rankings are based on who would win in a neutral site at this point in time.

SEC power rankings are per SEC Mike:

The Georgia Bulldogs fall to fourth in the SEC power rankings and it is tough to disagree. Georgia has five turnovers and scored 19.0 points per game in their last two games.

Beyond Georgia, Auburn dominated the LSU Tigers in an impressive victory to showcase their potential. Auburn still could end up as the second best team in the SEC West. The Tigers have late season games against Alabama and Texas A&M.

Texas A&M will continue to have College Football Playoff hopes following the Aggies’ win over the Arkansas Razorbacks, who fall to fifth in the power rankings. There really isn’t much separation from ranking No. 5 to ranking No. 12 in the SEC.

Teams like Tennessee, South Carolina, LSU, Ole Miss, Missouri, and more can be a handful if they play up to their potential. They will try to play spoiler all season long.

SEC Week 5 Conference Power Rankings

The Alabama Crimson Tide top the week 5 SEC Power Rankings following their win over Georgia.

[jwplayer FpdiEnjh-er0jUifI]

The Georgia Bulldogs got outscored 21-0 in the second half against the Alabama Crimson Tide. Stetson Bennett threw three interceptions for the University of Georgia. The Dawgs fell 41-24 to Alabama, who showed off their superior offense and quarterback play.

Mac Jones, Jaylen Waddle, and DeVonta Smith had their way with Georgia’s defense. The Alabama offensive line won the battle in the trenches and their defense got a pair of deflections that led to interceptions.

Additionally, in week five SEC action, the Arkansas Razorbacks beat the Ole Miss Rebels. Jimbo Fisher, Kellen Mond, and the Texas A&M Aggies defeated Mike Leach and the reeling Mississippi State Bulldogs.

South Carolina got a huge win over Auburn and Kentucky blew out Tennessee. Here’s SEC Mike’s week five power rankings:

What do you think of the rankings. It is hard to disagree with the top. Texas A&M should probably be over Arkansas and Ole Miss seems too high, but they did beat Kentucky.

UGA football’s two opening kickoff times finalized

The Georgia Bulldogs will open their season against the Arkansas Razorbacks on Sept. 26 at 4 p.m. They face the Auburn Tigers in Week 2.

The Georgia Bulldogs will open their season against the Arkansas Razorbacks on Sept. 26 at 4 p.m. The game will be televised on the SEC Network.

It will be a reunion between Kirby Smart and Sam Pittman, Georgia’s former offensive line coach, who will make his debut as head coach for Arkansas.

Historically, Georgia is 10-4 against the Razorbacks. The Bulldogs won their previous trip to Little Rock, Arkansas, 45-32. UGA has won seven of its last eight against Arkansas (lone defeat was in 2010). Georgia defeated Arkansas 30-3 in the 2002 SEC Championship Game.

In addition to the season opener against Arkansas, Georgia’s kickoff time against the Auburn Tigers has been set for 7:30 p.m. The Oct. 3 home opener at Sanford Stadium will be a night game, but without the normal electric environment.

The Auburn game will be televised on ESPN. It will be the 125th edition of the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry. Georgia leads the all-time series 60-56-8 over the Tigers.

Smart and UGA have defeated Auburn in the teams’ past three games. Georgia won 21-14 at Auburn last season and hasn’t lost to the Tigers in Athens since 2005.

The Bulldogs have won eight of the last 10 games in the rivalry.

Here are the SEC Network’s TV times for the opening two weeks of the college football season.

The Hogs brought in a head coach who was supposed to be all about cranking up the offense, and Chad Morris could never make it happen in his two years. Now he’s the offensive coordinator at Auburn.

Enter Sam Pittman, a career assistant who mostly dealt with offensive lines in his 16 previous gigs, including at Arkansas under in the mid-2010s. He might not have any head coaching experience outside of the high school and community college level, but he brought in a few coordinators to help make up for that.

In comes Kendal Briles, who couldn’t get the offense rolling at Florida State last year as the OC, but will try to up the tempo and create something that can compete with the rest of the high-powered attacks in the SEC West.

Improving the nation’s 111th best offense that averaged 340 yards and 21 points per game – and failed to score more than 24 points ten times in 12 games – starts with getting more out of the passing game. Five different quarterbacks combined to miss more than half of their throws, connect on just 5.7 yards per pass, and threw 14 touchdown passes with 15 interceptions.

Fortunately, this could be a big plus area with Florida’s Feleipe Franks transferring in after throwing for 4,593 yards and 38 touchdowns with 17 picks and eight rushing scores before suffering a broken leg last year. He’s expected to be fine for the season, but redshirt freshman KJ Jefferson is another promising option who struggled as a freshman, but has the skills to grow into something dangerous.

The rest of the skill parts are at least experienced. Rakeem Boyd was a bright spot with a team-high 1,133 rushing yards and eight scores, and Arizona State transfer Trelon Smith should be ready to go as a speedy all-around option in the mix.

The top seven wide receivers are expected back along with high-end tight end prospect Hudson Henry. Trelon Burks is a huge 6-3, 231-pound target who led the way with 475 receiving yards on his 29 catches, but he failed to score.

Mike Woods tied for the team lead with 33 catches and four touchdowns, and Trey Knox is a 6-5, 203-pound potential matchup problem who made plenty of plays – this is a very big, very young group that could blow up fast.

Considering Pittman’s talent as an offensive line coach, there’s no reason to not be decent up front right away. This was a relative positive last season, with the line doing a decent job in pass protection while paving the way for Boyd. This group could be far more consistent and stronger, but four starters are back – only losing left guard Austin Capps – along with most of the key backups.
