Tennessee vs. Purdue picks and predictions

Prediction

Purdue 83, Tennessee 77

Moneyline

PASS.

The spread presents better value for the top-ranked Boilermakers (-165).

Against the spread

BET PURDUE -3.5 (-105).

Tennessee has failed to cover in 3 of its last 4 games, including 1 of its last 2 tournament games.

Purdue has covered in all 3 of its tournament games and has won by 12 or more points in each game, with an average win margin of 26.3 points. While the Volunteers will put up more of a fight than the Boilermakers’ previous opponents, Edey and company are too much to handle.

Over/Under

BET OVER 147.5 (-110).

Both teams excel on defense, with Tennessee holding 2 of its March Madness opponents to 58 or fewer points and Purdue holding all 3 of its opponents to 68 or fewer. However, both teams also excel on offense, with Tennessee scoring 82 or more in 2 of its 3 games and Purdue scoring 78 or more in all 3 of its games.

With a line of 147.5, each team holds the capability to go on scoring runs and quickly add points to the total. They both shoot at a high rate from 3 and are able to quickly accumulate points in the paint. Expect a shootout Sunday.

Prediction

Creighton 72, Tennessee 67

Moneyline

BET CREIGHTON (+130).

The Bluejays have a well-balanced offense and an ability to shoot the ball that can put the opponent on their heels. They are 8-2 in their last 10 games and are in familiar waters, reaching the Sweet 16 for 2nd straight year and 3rd time in the last 4 years. Tennessee had its struggles in its 2nd-round game against Texas and has scored 62 or fewer points in 2 of its last 3 games. While Friday’s game should be close, Creighton will come out on top.

The odds are better on Creighton to win outright.

March Madness: Texas vs. Tennessee odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Texas vs. Tennessee odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The 7th-seeded Texas Longhorns (21-12) take on the 2nd-seeded Tennessee Volunteers (25-8) Saturday in the 2nd round of the NCAA Tournament. Tip-off from Spectrum Center in Charlotte is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET (CBS). Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Texas vs. Tennessee odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and best bets.

Both schools made easy work of their 1st-round opponents in the Midwest Region Thursday, as Texas got past Colorado State 56-44, while Tennessee blasted Saint Peter’s 83-49. The Volunteers outlasted the Longhorns 82-71 in their last meeting Jan. 28, 2023, cashing as 5.5-point home favorites. G Zakai Zeigler, who led the SEC this season with 6 assists per game this season, had a double-double in the win last year with 22 points (3-of-6 from 3) and 10 assists.

Zeigler had 11 points and once again dished out 10 assists in the win over the Peacocks Thursday, becoming the 1st Volunteer to record a points-assists double-double in the NCAA Tournament. G Dalton Knecht, the 2023-24 SEC Player of the Year, led Tennessee with 23 points.

Despite going 1 of 14 from 3-point range as a team, Texas was still able to outlast Colorado State in the 1st round in big part due to a 17-0 points off turnovers advantage. F Brock Cunningham, the winningest player in Texas basketball history, led the way with 3 steals off the bench.

Texas vs. Tennessee picks and predictions

Prediction

Tennessee 75, Texas 71

Moneyline

INCLUDE TENNESSEE ML (-275) IN A PARLAY.

The Vols (-275) shook off the SEC Tournament double-digit loss to Mississippi State by thoroughly dominating Saint Peter’s.

F Jonas Aidoo had 3 blocks in the win over Saint Peter’s, which put him in the top 3 in Tennessee’s single-season block list with 64 so far. Expect the junior to play angry once again and help his team advance to the Sweet 16.

However, I don’t recommend playing Tennessee straight up at this price. Include the Volunteers in a parlay or pass.

Against the spread

BET TEXAS +6.5 (-110).

This is a bit of a hedge as we root for a close game with the hope of Tennessee eeking it out.

This is too many points to give a Texas team, however, that should make more than a single 3-pointer like it did vs. the Rams. Texas coach Rodney Terry still expressed confidence in the scoring ability of F Dylan Disu despite the senior going 0 of 6 from 3 in his last game. Expect Disu to bounce back and play with physicality, as Tennessee coach Rick Barnes predicted, which should help keep the game close.

Over/Under

PASS.

Hard to predict exactly how Texas will respond offensively after the tough 3-point shooting performance vs. Colorado State. Plus, Tennessee features some tough defenders like G Jahmai Mashack as Terry pointed out. How will Longhorns G Max Abmas respond after going 1 of 6 from 3 on Thursday?

March Madness: Saint Peter’s vs. Tennessee odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saint Peter’s vs. Tennessee odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Saint Peter’s Peacocks (19-13) hope to begin a Cinderella run once again as they take on the No. 6 Tennessee Volunteers (24-8) in NCAA Tournament first-round action. Tip-off from Spectrum Center in Charlotte is scheduled for 9:20 p.m. ET (TNT). Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Saint Peter’s vs. Tennessee odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and best bets.

The 15th-seeded Peacocks earned their spot in this year’s Big Dance by winning the MAAC Tournament, slipping past Rider, Quinnipiac, and Fairfield by a combined 9 points. F Corey Washington, the Peacocks’ leading scorer (16.5 points per game), was named the MVP of the tournament after netting 20 of his game-high 24 points in the 2nd half of a 68-63 win over the Stags in the final.

Tennessee, the 2nd seed in the Midwest Region, suffered an unceremonious end to the SEC Tournament, as the Vols were blasted 73-56 by Mississippi State in the quarterfinals Friday. G Dalton Knecht, who sits atop the SEC alongside Alabama’s Mark Sears in scoring (21.1 points per game), was just 4 of 17 from the field. Knecht did net a game-high 26 points when the Vols were crowned SEC regular-season champions in a 66-59 win over No. 17 South Carolina March 6.

Saint Peter’s vs. Tennessee picks and predictions

Prediction

Tennessee 70, Saint Peter’s 64

Moneyline

PASS.

One can always include the Volunteers (-7000) in a parlay to slightly reduce juice and spread out action.

Against the spread

BET SAINT PETER’S +21.5 (-110).

This is a new-look Peacocks team from the 2022 version that topped Kentucky, Murray State, and Purdue in its journey to the Elite 8. Only G Lattrell Reid remains, although the senior talked about how the team’s DNA remains the same under 2nd-year coach Bashir Mason. The Volunteers, losers of 2 in a row, should not be laying this many points.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

BET OVER 130.5 (-105).

The Peacocks may feature the nation’s 12th-best scoring defense, but this is still a Tennessee team that is much better than they are accustomed to facing. Vols F Jonas Aidoo collected a season-high 7 offensive rebounds in the loss to Mississippi State, and the Peacocks led the MAAC in team offensive boards per game. Expect both schools to get their opportunities at 2nd-chance points, and G Zakai Zeigler, who leads the SEC in assists per game (5.8), should be a big-time facilitator.

Kentucky at Tennessee odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Kentucky at Tennessee odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Kentucky Wildcats (22-8, 12-5) and Tennessee Volunteers (24-6, 14-3 SEC) meet Saturday at the Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET (CBS). Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Kentucky vs. Tennessee odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and best bets.

The Wildcats enter on a 4-game winning streak, while posting a 4-3 against the spread (ATS) mark in the past 7 outings. The Over has cashed in each of the past 4 games, with Kentucky going for at least 91 points in the Over streak.

The Volunteers have won and covered 4 in a row, while going 8-2 ATS in the past 10 outings. The Under has cashed in 5 of the past 6 outings for Tennessee.

These teams last met Feb. 3 in Lexington with the Vols posting a 103-92 win as 1.5-point underdogs as the Over (158.5) comfortably connected. Kentucky won last season’s visit to Knoxville as an 11-point underdog Jan. 14, 2023, 63-56 as the Under (131.5) cashed.

Kentucky is No. 13 and Tennessee is No. 4 in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll.

Kentucky at Tennessee picks and predictions

Prediction

Tennessee 93, Kentucky 88

Moneyline

Tennessee (-350) will cost 3½ times the potential return, and that’s way too risky in a rivalry game between 2 high-octane offenses and ranked teams.

Kentucky (+275) is a tempting play for the chance to nearly multiply up by 3 times, especially since it won in Knoxville last season. However, Tennessee has won 15 of 16 games at Thompson-Boling this season, and the Vols aren’t likely to be tripped up again.

PASS.

Against the spread

KENTUCKY +7.5 (-102) is a solid play catching nearly 4 buckets. The Wildcats have been on fire on offense, but covering against Tennessee won’t be easy. The Vols have covered 4 in a row.

The Wildcats have covered 4 of the past 5 games on the road, while going 5-1 ATS as underdogs this season. Kentucky has won 4 of those 6 games as a dog outright, too.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

OVER 167.5 (-105) is a giant number, but with the way these teams have performed offensively, it might not be nearly high enough. The last time these teams met, we had a 195 combined points (Feb. 3).

Kentucky is averaging 103.0 PPG across the past 4 outings, all Over results, while Big Blue has allowed 89 or more points in 3 of those contests.

Tennessee is actually on an Under run lately, going low in 5 of the past 6 games. But the offense is good for 81 or more points in 3 of the past 4 outings, and 7 of the past 10 contests.

Tennessee at South Carolina odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Tennessee at South Carolina odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The No. 4 Tennessee Volunteers (23-6, 13-3 SEC) face off against the 16th-ranked South Carolina Gamecocks (24-5, 12-4) Wednesday. Tip-off from Colonial Life Arena is set for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN 2). Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Tennessee vs. South Carolina odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and best bets.

Tennessee picked up an 81-74 win vs. the then-No. 13, now-No. 17 Alabama Crimson Tide Saturday, while covering as a 4-point road underdog. The Vols did not shoot well (36% from the field), and they lost the rebounding battle 33-30 in the win, but they turned the ball over only 6 times and held Alabama to 24.3% (9 of 37) shooting from deep. The Volunteers have won 6 consecutive games and 8 of their last 9.

South Carolina beat the then-No. 24, now No. 25 Florida Gators 82-76 Saturday, covering as a 2-point home favorite. G Meechie Johnson’s 25 points led 4 Gamecocks in double figures. It was South Carolina’s 3rd consecutive win and 10th in its last 12 outings.

South Carolina won at Tennessee 63-59 Jan. 30 as a big 14-point underdog with the Under (135.5) cashing.

Tennessee at South Carolina picks and predictions

Prediction

Tennessee 72, South Carolina 66

Moneyline

PASS.

Tennessee (-225) is 8-2 in its last 10 matchups vs. South Carolina, and I don’t expect the Gamecocks to sweep the Vols this season, so Tennessee should win. However, the Volunteers are not worth the risk of betting on as -225 favorites. Back the spread and/or total instead.

Against the spread

LEAN TENNESSEE -5.5 (-106).

The Volunteers have covered the spread in each of their last 3 games and are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 outings. Tennessee is 15-13-1 ATS this season and is 7-3 ATS in its last 10 matchups vs. South Carolina, being 6-1 in the last 7.

This is only a lean because South Carolina has been the better team ATS this season — at 21-8 — and because the Gamecocks are equally hot ATS at 7-3 in their last 10.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

LEAN UNDER 139.5 (-105).

The Under has hit in 4 of Tennessee’s last 5 overall and has hit in back-to-back road outings for the Volunteers.

For South Carolina, the Under is 15-14 on the season. The Under also hit in the season’s 1st matchup between these squads.

This is a very slight lean as the Over has been safer for Tennessee this season (16-12-1).

Tennessee at Kentucky odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Tennessee at Kentucky odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The No. 20 Tennessee Volunteers (5-2, 2-2 SEC) take on the Kentucky Wildcats (5-2, 2-2) on Saturday at Kroger Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Tennessee vs. Kentucky odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

The Volunteers failed to cover as 9-point road underdogs in their 34-20 loss to No. 8 Alabama in Week 8, and the Over (48) hit. Tennessee was on a 3-game winning streak before its loss to Alabama and has scored only 20 points in back-to-back weeks.

The Wildcats were defeated by No. 16 Missouri 38-21 in Week 7 as 1.5-point home favorites, and the Over (50.5) cleared. Kentucky lost 2 games in a row before having its bye in Week 8, with the other loss coming to No. 1 Georgia.

Tennessee is No. 20 in the US LBM Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Tennessee at Kentucky picks and predictions

Prediction

Kentucky 27, Tennessee 24

Moneyline

While Tennessee is favored to win this SEC bout on the road, I’ll back KENTUCKY (+150) at home. The Volunteers have only played 2 road games thus far and both of those were losses to conference opponents.

The Wildcats are also 4-1 at home this season.

Against the spread

KENTUCKY +3.5 (-110) is the play against the spread considering we are siding with the Wildcats to pull off the upset at home. The Volunteers have failed to cover the spread in each of their 1st 2 road games against SEC teams.

Meanwhile, the Wildcats are 3-2 ATS at home and are now 8-5 ATS at home in the last 2 seasons.

Over/Under

Neither of these offenses has shown much consistency this season, making the UNDER 51.5 (-115) the ideal choice in this contest. The Volunteers are allowing only 19.43 points per game, while the Wildcats are giving up only 23.57 points per game.

QB Joe Milton III and QB Devin Leary have been shaky this season, and the Under is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings between these programs.

The Tennessee Volunteers (5-1, 2-1 SEC) and Alabama Crimson Tide (6-1, 4-0) meet Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET (CBS). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Tennessee vs. Alabama odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

This is, essentially, an elimination game for both sides. It’s an elimination game for a potential College Football Playoff spot, and 2 SEC losses will likely end any hopes for a spot in the SEC Championship Game.

Tennessee has won 3 straight games since dropping a 29-16 decision at Florida on Sept. 16. It eased by Texas A&M by a 20-13 score as a 3-point favorite last time out, covering for the 3rd straight game. The Under is 3-1-1 in the past 5 games for the Vols.

Alabama won 24-21 against Arkansas last time out, although the Razorbacks easily covered a 19-point number to snap a 3-0 ATS run for Bama. After some early-season offensive struggles, the Tide has scored 24 or more points in 4 straight contests, and the Over is 2-0-1 in the past 3 tries.

Tennessee is No. 15 and Alabama is No. 8 in the US LBM Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Tennessee at Alabama picks and predictions

Prediction

Alabama 29, Tennessee 24

Moneyline

Alabama (-350) will cost you 3½ times your potential return, and that’s way too much risk for not enough reward in what should be a very close game.

Last season, Tennessee (+260) picked up a wild 52-49 score, its most points in the history of this rivalry. Bama will have revenge on its mind, but this will be a tight game coming down to the very end, just like last season.

PASS.

Against the spread

TENNESSEE +8.5 (-110) is worth the play in this SEC Battle of the Titans, as it will keep this a 1-score game down in T-Town.

I was feeling good about Alabama -8.5 (-110) after impressive showings against Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Texas A&M on the road. However, Bama’s sluggish near-miss against Arkansas is a concern.

As a single-digit favorite, Alabama is 2-1 ATS this season, but that lone non-cover was an outright loss to Texas as a 7-point favorite.

Over/Under

OVER 48.5 (-105) is the lean, although we’re unlikely to have a combined 101 points like last season’s wild shootout at Neyland Stadium.

The Over is 2-0-1 in the past 3 games for Alabama, and it has scored 24 or more points in 4 straight contests. The defense hasn’t been as dominant as past years, either, allowing 19.3 PPG in the past 3 outings.

For Tennessee, it has rolled up 40 or points in 4 of 6 games to date, and it allowed 29 points in its lone true road game this season.

Texas A&M at Tennessee odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Texas A&M at Tennessee odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Texas A&M Aggies (4-2, 2-1 SEC) pay a visit to the No. 17 ranked Tennessee Volunteers (4-1, 1-1) on Saturday. Kickoff from Neyland Stadium is set for 3:30 p.m. ET (CBS). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Texas A&M at Tennessee odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

The Aggies lost 26-20 last Saturday to the Alabama Crimson Tide, failing to cover as a 2.5-point underdog. The Aggies were never able to get the ground game going as they rushed for only 67 yards on 35 carries (1.9 yards per carry). Texas A&M’s defense also struggled to contain Alabama’s passing game as it allowed 321 passing yards.

Tennessee, which was off last week, has won each of its last 2 games since losing to Florida in Week 3. RB Jaylen Wright is the head of this Volunteers rushing attack that has totaled 1,156 yards and 13 TDs in 5 games. Wright leads the teams with 435 rushing yards and an average of 7.1 yards per carry.

Tennessee is No. 17 in the US LBM Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Texas A&M at Tennessee picks and predictions

Prediction

Tennessee 29, Texas A&M 27

Moneyline

BET TENNESSEE (-155).

I like the Volunteers to pick up the win here as they have been dominant in their 4 home games this year and have a better offense than the Aggies. These are 2 very similar teams and I expect this to be a 1-score game, but the Volunteers’ run game will prove to be pivotal down the stretch in keeping the ball out of the Aggies’ hands.

Against the spread

LEAN TEXAS A&M +3 (-110).

The Aggies have proven that they can be competitive against tough competition, and I expect that to continue to show here. The Volunteers will have trouble containing the talented WR duo of Evan Stewart and Ainias Smith. The Volunteers will also likely struggle to contain the RB duo of Le’Veon Moss and Amari Daniels, who both average more than 5 yards per carry.

Over/Under

LEAN OVER 55.5 (-110).

Texas A&M has a very solid defense that only allows 268.8 yards per game, but these offenses will be the stars of the show in this game. The Aggies average 420.5 yards per game on the offensive side of the ball with 275.7 of those coming through the air. The Volunteers are even better and more balanced on offense, averaging 466.2 yards per game with 235 coming through the air and 231.2 on the ground. Look for both teams to have trouble stopping one another.

South Carolina at Tennessee odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s South Carolina at Tennessee odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The No. 19 Tennessee Volunteers (3-1, 0-1 SEC) welcome the South Carolina Gamecocks (2-2, 1-1) to Neyland Stadium Saturday. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the South Carolina vs. Tennessee odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

The Vols beat UTSA 45-14 in Week 4, covering as 24-point home favorites as the total (59) pushed. Tennessee is 2-2 against the spread (ATS), 1-1 ATS at home and 1-2-1 O/U. QB Joe Milton III has 8 touchdowns and 925 passing yards through 4 games. Tennessee is No. 19 in the US LBM Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

The Gamecocks beat the Mississippi State Bulldogs 37-30 Saturday to pick up their first conference win. They covered as a 6-point favorite as the Over (46.5) cashed. South Carolina is 3-1 ATS and 2-2 O/U this season and took a 14-3 lead into the half in its 24-14 Week 3 loss to the No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs. QB Spencer Rattler has 1,242 yards and 7 touchdowns through 4 games.

South Carolina at Tennessee picks and predictions

Prediction

Tennessee 31, South Carolina 28

Moneyline

PASS.

Both teams have strong offenses, but the Volunteers have the edge on the defensive side of the ball. Tennessee (-450) should win at home with its far superior defense, but there is no value to bet on it to win outright.

Against the spread

BET SOUTH CAROLINA +12 (-110).

The Gamecocks have been electric against the spread in SEC play, covering both of their games so far, losing by 10 as 26-point underdogs vs. Georgia in Week 3 and beating Mississippi State by 7 as 6-point favorites in Week 4.

Rattler is starting to show the confidence that had him among the preseason favorites to win the Heisman. The Tennessee defense still allows 190.8 passing yards per game, so while it is strong, Rattler should be able to operate some. The Vols are 0-1 ATS against SEC opponents, losing 29-16 to Florida as 4.5-point favorites.

Considering the differences in ATS records in conference play along with Rattler’s play and ability to move the ball throughout the first month of the season, take SOUTH CAROLINA +12 (-110).

Over/Under

LEAN UNDER 63.5 (-110).

Tennessee is 1-2-1 O/U this season and has allowed fewer than 30 points in all 4 of its games this season. Its offense has struggled as of late as well, topping 30 points in just 2 of its last 3 games. It is 0-2-1 O/U in its last 3 games and 0-1 O/U in conference play.

South Carolina is 2-2 O/U this season and 1-1 O/U in conference play. It struggled mightily against a strong Georgia defense, scoring just 14 points, but put up 37 points in its 2nd SEC game. The Gamecocks are allowing 27 per game in conference play.
