Kyler Murray gets O-line custom golf bags, clubs for Christmas

For the third straight year, Murray does a great job of taking care of his linemen at the end of the year.

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray has taken care of his offensive linemen every year he has been in the league. In 2019, his rookie season, he got the linemen PHAT scooters with their number on them.

Last year, he got customized artwork of each player.

He has done it again in his third year.

This year, he is thinking about their golf game.

As shown in the tweet below, he purchased custom golf bags and custom clubs for the linemen on the active roster.

From D.J. Humphries to Marcus Henry and even Justin Murray, who is on injured reserve, Murray continues the longstanding NFL tradition of a starting quarterback taking care of the guys who protect him.

Murray took everyone down to the place to get fitted for the clubs.

Murray, even as a young quarterback in the league, just gets it.

Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray’s Christmas gift to his offensive line is one all golfers will love

Kyler Murray has outdone himself this year with his Christmas gifts for his offensive linemen.

Every great quarterback knows they would be nothing without their offensive line.

The men in the trenches who give them the time to set and throw the perfect spiral on the game-winning touchdown deserve a little recognition too, especially around the holidays. Ever since former Miami Dolphins QB Dan Marino famously gifted Isotoner gloves to his teammates in a memorable 1980s commercial, it’s almost become a cliché for the starting QB to at the very minimum give them a gift card to Outback Steakhouse, but with each passing year (and as the QB salaries soar) the gifts become more extravagant.

But let’s give credit where credit is due – Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray went next level this holiday season and bought his entire O-line custom golf bags and custom sets of clubs from True Spec.

The Cardinals are in the midst of a two-game losing streak and are coming off a tough loss to the lowly Detroit Lions, but still sit in first place in the NFC West with a record of 10-4. Murray’s line has been rewarded handsomely for being nice to him this season (though he did miss three games with an ankle injury after scrambling for his life.)

The bags are in Cardinals colors – white leather staff bags with each player’s name and number embroidered in red.

According to NBC News 12 in Phoenix, in Murray’s rookie season (2019), he gave all of his linemen personalized Phat Scooters with the Cardinals’ logo and each lineman’s number.

Last year, he thanked each offensive lineman by giving a painting of themselves for Christmas.

But with all the great courses to be played in the Valley of the Sun, Murray’s gift of golf has to be his his best expression of gratitude for the protection he receives on the field. Cardinals left tackle D.J. Humphries sure seems to think so. “You’ve done good,” he tells Murray as he waits for his turn to be fitted for a personalized set at True Spec.

Colts open as 1.5-point underdogs vs. Cardinals in Week 16

Colts will open the week as slight road underdogs to the Cardinals in Week 16.

The Indianapolis Colts (8-6) are preparing to make a long trip across the country to the southwest, visiting the Arizona Cardinals (10-4) at State Farm Stadium in Week 16.

While the Colts are one of the hottest teams in the NFL and are coming off of a big 27-17 win over the top-seeded New England Patriots, they will open the week as slight road underdogs in Week 16, according to Tipico Sportsbook.

Spread Moneyline Total Points
Indianapolis Colts (8-6) +1.5 +102 O 49.5
-110
Arizona Cardinals (10-4) -1.5 -125 U 49.5
-110

The Colts have won five of their last six games and seven of their last nine with those two losses coming within three points each. It has been an incredible turnaround from the 1-4 start they struggled through.

The Cardinals got off to the hottest start in the NFL with a 7-0 winning streak but are 3-4 since then. They are coming off of an embarrassing loss to the Detroit Lions, who just won their second game of the season.

Though this game doesn’t matter as much for playoff seeding, the Colts will want to do their best to come out with a win against a Cardinals offense that will look to use Kyler Murray as a game-changer.

Regardless, they have their work cut out for them in this Week 16 matchup and open the week as underdogs for the first time in a while.

Despite loss, Cardinals favored in Christmas Day game vs. Colts

The Cardinals open the week as 2.5-point home favorites over the Colts for their Week 16 game on Christmas night.

The Arizona Cardinals have two games in a row and three out of their last four games, including a 30-12 embarrassment against the Detroit Lions, who had one win entering the game.

However, despite the recent issues, the Cardinals begin the week as home favorites over the Indianapolis Colts, whom they face in Week 16 on Christmas night, according to odds from Tipico Sportsbook.

The Cardinals mustered only five yards in the first quarter against the Lions, fell behind 17-0 and never recovered.

The Colts played Saturday night and snapped the seven-game winning streak of the New England Colts, beating them 27-17 behind 170 rushing yards and a touchdown from running back Jonathan Taylor, who leads the NFL with 1,518 rushing yards and 17 rushing touchdowns.

Let’s look at the odds and lines for the Colts-Cardinals matchup this weekend.

Colts at Cardinals NFL Week 16 odds and lines

The Cardinals are -130 on the money line to start the week. That gives them 56.52% implied odds of winning. A $130 money line bet on them would win $100 if they beat the Colts outright.

The Colts are +105 on the money line with 48.78% implied odds of winning. A $100 money line bet on the Colts wins $105 if they beat the Cardinals.

The Cardinals are favored by 2.5 points against the spread. They are -2.5 (-112). A $112 ATS bet on the Cardinals wins $100 if they beat the Colts by at least three points.

The Colts are +2.5 (-108), meaning a $108 bet on the Colts against the spread wins $100 if they beat or tie with the Cardinals, or if they lose by no more than two points.

The Cardinals and Colts are both 9-5 ATS this season.

The total is set at 49.5 points, with both the Over and the Under priced at -110.

A $110 bet on the Over wins $100 if the teams combine for 50 points or more, while a $110 bet on the Under is a $100 winner if they combine for no more than 49 points.

The Cardinals are 7-7 O/U and the Colts are 8-6 O/U this season.

Cowboys leapfrog Buccaneers, Cardinals in NFC playoff race

The Packers remain the No. 1 seed in the NFC and clinched their division. The Buccaneers and Cardinals fell to no. 3 and No. 4 with their losses.

There are still games to be played in Week 15 because of COVID rescheduling, but the top four teams in the NFC already played and the NFC conference standings have seen some changes.

Here are the standings in the NFC after Sunday’s games.

  1. Green Bay Packers, 11-3 (clinch playoffs and division title)
  2. Dallas Cowboys, 10-4
  3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 10-4
  4. Arizona Cardinals, 10-4
  5. Los Angeles Rams, 9-4 (they play Tuesday night)
  6. San Francisco 49ers, 8-6
  7. New Orleans Saints, 7-7

The No. 7 seed could still change with games to be played Monday and Tuesday. The Washington Football Team, Philadelphia Eagles and Minnesota Vikings are all 6-7. Minnesota plays Monday night, while Washington and Philly face each other Tuesday.

What happened in Week 15

Two of the top three seeds in the conference entering the week lost and another nearly lost.

  • The Packers squeaked by the Baltimore Ravens 31-30 on a failed two-point attempt at the end of the game.
  • The Buccaneers were shut out 9-0 by the Saints.
  • The Cardinals were embarrassed by the previously one-win Lions 30-12.
  • The Cowboys rolled by the New York Giants, beating them 21-6.
  • The Rams will play the Seahawks Tuesday. Even if they win, they will still be the No. 5 seed. If they lose, they will not fall in the standings.
  • The 49ers beat the Atlanta Falcons 31-13.

What’s coming up in Week 16

  • The Packers are at home against the Cleveland Browns.
  • The Cowboys host Washington in the Sunday night game.
  • The Buccaneers are on the road to face the 5-9 Panthers.
  • The Cardinals host the 8-6 Indianapolis Colts on Christmas night.
  • The Rams play the Vikings on the road.
  • The 49ers face the 9-5 Tennessee Titans on the road.
  • The Saints host the red-hot Miami Dolphins on Monday night.

Lions PFF grades from win over Cardinals raise some questions

The Detroit Lions came out with a strong win over the Arizona Cardinals, but strictly looking at PFF grades you think the complete opposite

The Detroit Lions pulled off one of the bigger upsets in recent memory, dominating from start to finish against a potential playoff contender, the Arizona Cardinals. Detroit scored a 30-12 home victory. The Lions also found their way into NFL history, being the first team with one or fewer wins beat a team with 10 wins or more by double digits.

Throughout the season, the Lions have always been a tale of two halves. They’ve never put together a full game, either starting strong but faltering at the end or falling behind early and unable to dig themselves out of the hole. However, Sunday’s victory showed what happens when a team executes a perfect game plan from start to finish and plays spoilers at the end of the day.

With the Lions playing some of their best football as of late, fans and media have embraced the positivity and strangers, for that matter, while celebrating the turnaround the team has made. But, unfortunately, you get the few who are more worried about the draft slot than the culture made before our very eyes. Also, even though the Lions pulled off a decisive win, Pro Football Focus grades failed for the most part to reflect it.

Understandably, PFF reflects more on an individual level and not fully on a team performance base. That helps explain some of the confusion people might have had when checking out this week’s PFF grades against the Cardinals. However, it still has some questions around it.

Through offense and defense, the Lions mustered only two players, Craig Reynolds and Josh Reynold, to score above 80, and the highest-graded defender was Charles Harris, who scored 76.8. Also, there was a dramatic drop-off between the number three highest offensive player, WR Amon-Ra St. Brown with a 78.8 grade and the fourth, LT Taylor Decker, who scored a 64.0 grade.

The two lowest were no surprise, considering the eye test was not in favor of TE Brock Wright (40.9) and RB Godwin Igwebuike (40.6). They did not have their best games in an otherwise strong offensive performance.

Considering how well the offense was in tune, it would’ve been half-expected the Cardinals defenders would have middle-of-the-road to low grades. In fact, it was the complete opposite. Five Cardinal players nearly scored over 80 on defense, with two of them, OLB Markus Golden and DT Leki Fotu, almost eclipsing 90. On top of it, three offensive players came close to scoring an 80 as well.

I was a little confused by this week’s PFF grades, especially with how well a fair amount of Lions players played a strong game, but somehow the Cardinals have the higher of the grades out of the bunch. I get the individual aspect of it, but at the end of the day, the subjectiveness is head-scratching considering the players’ performance from both teams.

Either way, the Lions came out on top, which should excite most of the fanbase next week. The team put together a strong game plan and got strong performances from many of their players, making this win possible. All draft slots and PFF grades aside, this is a good week to be a Lions fan.

Cardinals’ stunning loss won’t change Rams’ mindset in Week 15

The Rams are aware of the Cardinals’ shocking loss to the Lions, but they know they still have to take care of their own business.

Christmas came a week early for the Rams, and Jared Goff played the role of Santa by delivering a gift to his former team. He led the Lions to a shocking win over the Cardinals on Sunday afternoon – and not a narrow victory, either. They beat Arizona 30-12 thanks to Goff’s three touchdown passes, earning his second win of the season.

With the Cardinals losing, the Rams are now a half-game back in the NFC West with a chance to pull into a tie by beating the Seahawks on Tuesday. Sean McVay is aware of the surprising turn of events in Week 15, but the Rams aren’t going to let that change their approach to their matchup with Seattle.

They know they still have to handle their business and win, otherwise Arizona’s loss won’t mean much.

“I am aware of that,” McVay said Sunday of whether he saw that the Cardinals lost. “We came in and guys heard what the score was, but the reality is, it all becomes irrelevant if we don’t take care of business. Of course our players look at that kind of stuff, but the focus and concentration is, let’s take care of our business. To say I’m not a fan of the game and the league and things that could potentially affect us, I’m absolutely aware of that. But, you continue to harp on what are the things that we truly control? And that’s making sure we do a good job up on Tuesday. But, I’m definitely aware of that, as our players are as well.”

By no means does Arizona’s loss make the Rams the favorites over the Cardinals in the NFC West. They still have plenty of work to do, but knowing Arizona likely had to lose two of its final four games, this is a pleasant surprise because few expected the Cardinals to lose to Detroit.

If the Rams beat Seattle on Tuesday, the Cardinals will still hold the tiebreaker based on division record, holding a one-game edge in that department. Arizona still has to face the Colts, Cowboys and Seahawks in its final three games, so it’s not the easiest road whatsoever.

The Rams are still within reach of earning a home playoff game in the wild-card round of the playoffs, even if they don’t have a great chance to secure a first-round bye over the rest of the NFC.
