Sights and sounds from the first full contact practice of camp

The Browns continue to increase the pace of practice with the Hall of Fame game less than a week away

The Cleveland Browns put on pads for the first time on Friday and then on Saturday they began contact and hitting as they continue to ramp up. The Browns will play the Jets this coming Thursday for the Hall of Fame game as the return of football is nearly here.

Quarterback Deshaun Watson continued to have a strong training camp spreading the ball around and making throws on every level of the defense. He wasn’t perfect as cornerback Denzel Ward had a great one-on-one rep against Elijah Moore in the red zone even though Moore ended up stealing the ball from Ward.

Let’s take a look at some of the media availability as well as clips from Saturday’s practice.

Browns place four on non-football injury list ahead of training camp

The Browns have placed four on the non-football injury list.

Cleveland Browns football is finally back as the team has their first training camp practice in Greenbriar, West Virginia tomorrow. And while neither of the two linebackers coming off of a significant season-ending injury have been placed on a reserve list yet, wide receiver Marquise Goodwin and three others have been placed on the non-football injury list.

While Goodwin was placed on the non-football injury list with an illness, the other three were not disclosed. Here are the players who have been placed on the NFI list as training camp begins.

1 veteran player on the roster bubble at each position group for the Browns

After overhauling chunks of their roster, which veterans could find themselves on the bubble as training camp nears?

The Cleveland Browns and general manager set out to add talent not only to positions of need but all over their roster this offseason, and may not be done yet. While the microscope is on the defensive tackle room given how abysmal it was a year ago (meaning second-year player Perrion Winfrey will need to lock in this summer), there are now veterans on the roster bubble in every room.

Who else joins Winfrey as veteran roster bubble candidates as the Browns look to get training camp underway in three weeks? Here is one player per position that will be in a fight for a roster spot.

2022 Season Review: Grading the Browns’ wide receiver room

How did the position perform during the 2022 season?

One of the biggest positions with questions on the roster going into the 2022 season was the Cleveland Browns wide receiver room. Outside of Amari Cooper, there wasn’t much-proven talent on the roster. On top of that people questioned if Amari Cooper was even a number one in the NFL anymore.

Plenty of questions were answered while others didn’t give much of a reason to think they can perform consistently at this level. The team will likely need to add more speed this offseason but fans should be feeling better about the group after last season as they overachieved in 2022.

Here is a look at how the wide receivers performed last season.

3 Browns who disappointed in an underwhelming 2022 campaign

Who were the biggest letdowns for the Browns?

With the Cleveland Browns ending their season with a record of 7-10, it goes without saying that some players didn’t live up to expectations. Some had minor expectations others were counted on to play major roles that they fell short of. Some players were expected to take steps forward after showing flashes last season and things didn’t come together as the team hoped.

There will be roster changes for the Browns and general manager Andrew Berry who showed last year he will part ways with big contracts. Berry doesn’t seem to have the ego where he can’t admit mistakes showing that with cutting Austin Hooper last offseason.

Here is a look at the biggest disappointments for the Browns this season.

Browns Injury Report: 3 miss practice with injuries, a handful limited as Bengals approach

The Browns were missing a few key contributors from practice on Wednesday

The Cleveland Browns are looking to win their third game win in a row after a win over the Houston Texans as the Cincinnati Bengals are next on the schedule. With a win over the Bengals, the Browns will have swept Cincinnati three seasons in a row under head coach Kevin Stefanski. They do, however, have a pretty long list of players working through injuries at Wednesday’s practice as eight players did not participate.

While a handful of veterans sat out on the day with scheduled rest, there were a plethora who sat out with an injury or were limited in practice. Here is every player that appeared on Cleveland’s injury list on Wednesday.

WR Anthony Schwartz hits IR with a concussion, paving the way for Jaelon Darden

The Browns have cleared a roster spot after adding Jaelon Darden off of waivers.

After adding former Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ wide receiver Jaelon Darden off of the waiver wire, the Cleveland Browns have now cleared him a roster spot. After suffering a concussion against the Houston Texans, wide receiver Anthony Schwartz has been placed on Injured Reserve.

With both Schwartz and Demetric Felton both active against the Texans, one has to wonder if there is a pathway to Darden seeing the field as early as this weekend against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Schwartz will be eligible to play the final week of the season and into the postseason should the Browns continue to stack wins down the stretch.

Jacoby Brissett throws key block as Anthony Schwartz scores Browns touchdown

Anthony Schwartz takes a reverse 31 yards for a Browns touchdown

The Cleveland Browns have scored on their opening drive for the sixth time this season.

It hasn’t been a good omen for the AFC North team as they have lost seven straight times after scoring on their opening possession.

Still, that doesn’t take away from the block quarterback Jacoby Brissett delivered as Anthony Schwartz finished his 31-yard run against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Brissett took down Antoine Winfield Jr. with the block that was the finishing touch on the scoring play.

The block by Brissett:

WATCH: Anthony Schwartz scores first touchdown on season on reverse vs. Buccaneers

The Browns strike first against the Buccaneers as Anthony Schwartz takes a reverse to the house.

The Cleveland Browns have struck first against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as wide receiver Anthony Schwartz took a reverse for 31 yards to the house on their opening drive. Not overlooked, however, was the block quarterback Jacoby Brissett threw for Schwartz to clear a lane for him.

The Browns tend to strike on their opening drives, but they will need their top-five offense to continue to play like it throughout the rest of the game. As the abysmal run defense of the Browns takes the field, can they stand up tall and get a stop to start the game?

Browns name 7 inactives including WR Anthony Schwartz vs. Ravens

The Browns have released their seven inactives vs. the Baltimore Ravens, and second-year wide receiver Anthony Schwartz is among them

The Cleveland Browns have announced their seven inactives for today’s game against the Baltimore Ravens. While the majority are not too big of a surprise, the Browns have, however, listed second-year wide receiver Anthony Schwartz as inactive as well.

The other six names include the injured Denzel Ward, Wyatt Teller, Isaac Rochell, and Joe Haeg. Third-string quarterback Kellen Mond continues to be inactive as well, joined by veteran offensive lineman Chris Hubbard.

Listing five inactives themselves, cornerback Jalyn Armour-Davis, wide receiver Tylan Wallace, running back Mike Davis, linebacker A.J. Klein, and guard Ben Cleveland will not suit up for the Ravens.
