Could the 2025 NBA All-Star Game be held in Boston? Word is the Celtics have interest

It would be the first time since 1964.

There might be an All-Star Game in the city the Boston Celtics play in, according to the Boston Globe’s Gary Washburn. The annual NBA exhibition tilt has not been played in Boston since 1964, with many league cities having hosted the event more than once in that interim.

It’s an exciting if generally unprofitable prospect for Celtics fans, as Washburn asks us “what kind of reception would Bill Russell and Bob Cousy receive if they were reunited at midcourt during halftime?” That Boston does not own its own arena is a potential hurdle, given the team would also need to get Delaware North, the company that owns both TD Garden and the Boston Bruins, to sign off on the event.

The next open slot for Boston would be in 2025, given Salt Lake City (home of the Utah Jazz) and Indianapolis (home of the Pacers) have the next two All-Star games in 2023 and 2024, respectively.

“The fact that Grousbeck, Pagliuca, and Gotham are stepping up their efforts to file an application is a major development considering for years their interest was tepid,” observed the Globe reporter.

“Times have changed, however. Boston has been revitalized and the league has put added emphasis on honoring its past greats and has always contributed to local communities and economy.”

4 of the most memorable dunks in NBA Celebrity All-Star Game history

Remembering the best dunks during the NBA’s Celebrity All-Star games.

From my seat, NBA All-Star Weekend is always a fun time. The celebrities are out, the best basketball players in the world get together to enjoy one another’s company for the weekend, and then of course there’s all of the cool events that take place.

Lost in the sauce of the Saturday festivities and the Sunday game is the Celebrity All-Star Game on Friday night. The game isn’t ever good, because there aren’t many participants that probably pick up a basketball more than a few times a year. Yet, the game usually leaves us with at least one or two moments that make us say, “WOW.”

Here are a few moments that stand out above the rest.

The NBA’s best betting storylines at the All-Star Break

A resurgence from the Bulls and Cavs in the same year? Thank you, NBA.

We’re nearing the stretch run of the NBA calendar. Soon, legends will be made, and hearts will be broken–often at the same time.

But before we can reach the postseason and break down countless fun, intriguing matchups, everyone needs a little pause. An excellent breather to recuperate before complete chaos ensues. A short reprieve to understand what’s important before the greater NBA world has its collective Grand Eye focused on you and your successes and failures.

I’m referring, of course, to the All-Star Break, which is the unofficial signifier of the end of the NBA’s first half. Or, first two-thirds-ish? Something like that. You get the point.

Let’s reflect on the 66 percent of games that were and appreciate what “this league” gave us in storylines over the last four months.

Myles Garrett unretires from basketball, to play in NBA All-Star Celebrity Game

Coach Stefanski said “he’s done” with pickup basketball last offseason but Garrett is going back on the basketball court for the All-Star Celebrity Game in Cleveland:

The Cleveland Browns season did not go the way that they wanted leaving their players far more free time than any would have wanted. We have seen players like Jarvis Landry and Anthony Schwartz working out together during their off time while Baker Mayfield got his much-needed shoulder surgery.

Myles Garrett, who continues to share how often he gets tested for PEDs after posting impressive photos on social media, its going to be spending some of his free time back in Cleveland.

This year’s NBA All-Star Game will be held on the shores of Lake Erie. A year after the NFL draft took the city by storm, Cleveland gets another premier sporting event. Outside of the game itself, the NBA puts on a number of other events. While the dunk contest and three-point shooting contest may be the most famous, the All-Star Celebrity Game may be the most interesting.

That is where Garrett has decided he is no longer retired from basketball. It will be interesting if head coach Kevin Stefanski comments as he made this statement regarding Garrett playing basketball:

“Congratulations on a great career for Myles. Really proud of him. But he’s done.”

The Celebrity Game is far more controlled than the pickup basketball that led Stefanski to make his comments.

Garrett will be joined by the mayor of Cleveland, Justin Bibb, former Cleveland Cavaliers stars Booby Gibson and Anderson Varejao and a number of other celebrities, including Machine Gun Kelly, for the game*.

*Unless Stefanski and the Browns step in.

Will you be watching Cleveland’s star defensive end take the basketball court during the All-Star Game festivities?
