Portal News: Quarterback Will Rogers renews his commitment to Washington

Will Rogers won’t leave the Washington Huskies after all.

Following Kalen DeBoer’s departure for Alabama, the Washington Huskies were left with an uncertain quarterback situation. Will Rogers, who ranks second only to Aaron Murray in SEC history for passing yards, had transferred to play for DeBoer and chose to re-enter the transfer portal after the coaching change.

New Huskies coach Jedd Fisch then witnessed four-star quarterback Austin Mack, who was ranked 73rd overall by 247Sports, join Rogers in the portal. Late last week, Mack committed to Alabama, which paved the way for Rogers’ return.

Rogers told ESPN that Fisch’s NFL pedigree sold him. “That’s the plan. Coach Fisch told me today, ‘I want to treat you like a professional football player.’ I told him that’s what I want, and that’s what I’m looking to do.”

With over 13 years of experience in the NFL, Fisch primarily served as an offensive coordinator and quarterback coach. His two most recent coaching positions were with the Rams, where he worked as the assistant offensive coordinator under Sean McVay, and with the Patriots, where he held the role of quarterbacks coach.

WATCH: Ryan Williams opens up about his recruitment following visit to Alabama

Ryan Williams remains one of the most highly coveted prospects in the class of 2024

Perhaps the most highly sought-after prospect remaining in the class of 2024 is a five-star wide receiver from Saraland High School in Alabama, Ryan Williams.

Williams, the once Alabama football commit, recently reclassified from the 2025 class to the 2024 class and despite his youth, is one of the most talented prospects.

Williams is coming off an official visit with Alabama and was able to spend time with Coach Kalen DeBoer and the rest of the new coaching staff in Tuscaloosa.

On Monday, Al.com caught up with Williams to get the latest on his recruitment following his visit with Alabama and ahead of his upcoming visits to Texas and Auburn.

Williams is set to make his commitment on Feb. 9 which happens to be his birthday.

Stay tuned to Roll Tide Wire for more on Williams and other Alabama football news.

Can USC keep Julian Lewis’ commitment after his reclassification to 2025?

This recruitment does not feel settled. USC will have to clear more hurdles.

Announcing that he will be reclassifying to the 2025 recruiting class, Julian Lewis, the 6-1, 185-pound quarterback from Carrollton, Georgia, will see his recruitment heat up again.

Lewis committed to USC last year in August, choosing the Trojans over Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State, LSU, Oregon, and Texas A&M. He made it clear that Lincoln Riley’s history with quarterbacks was the deciding factor. Riley, who is only 40 years old, has already coached three Heisman Trophy-winning quarterbacks: Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray, and Caleb Williams. The first two were also the first overall picks in the NFL draft, and Williams is expected to join them.

LSU has moved on and secured the commitment of the No. 1 recruit and quarterback in the 247Sports composite rankings, Bryce Underwood. Ohio State, a Big Ten rival, signed the No. 4 quarterback in the 2024 class, Air Noland, and the Buckeyes already have an elite 2025 quarterback commit in Tavien St. Clair. Elite quarterbacks do not sign in pairs, so these two schools are out of the running.

That leaves two other schools Lewis has visited twice since committing to USC: Georgia and Alabama. Lewis is from Georgia, and the Bulldogs are in need of an elite quarterback after Dylan Raiola flipped his commitment on signing day and signed with his father’s alma mater, Nebraska. While Alabama signed the top quarterback in the 2024 class, Julian Sayin, the Tide will likely still be in the market for another signal-caller in the 2025 class.

Julian and his family are very familiar with the local powerhouses that will pursue him until early signing day in December, and he chose USC. Perhaps the words of Julian’s father, TC Lewis, will help to ease concerns in Troy.

In an interview with 247Sports last summer, TC explained: “If Lincoln Riley doesn’t go [to an SEC team], it’s not an option.  With the word of NIL and that school academically and everything LA can bring and seeing the type focus Caleb has had and talking to Caleb’s dad about it, there is nowhere else to go. It seems like the smart move.”

It is often said that actions speak louder than words. Julian Lewis has a 25-3 record as the starting quarterback at Carrollton High School, but there have been rumors that he may transfer to Mater Dei or St. John Bosco in Southern California. While his father’s words are reassuring to Trojan fans, a move out west would certainly secure his son’s commitment to Lincoln Riley’s program. However, there is no guarantee this will happen. Dylan Raiola, who played high school football in Chandler, Arizona, transferred to Georgia to play his senior year, and we know how that ended.

The one thing you can always rely on in high school recruiting: it’s fluid. So buckle up, Trojans; it might be a bumpy ride.

Alabama is becoming favorite to land four-star EDGE Noah Carter

This could potentially be the first of many

The past few days have not only been tough on the roster in Tuscaloosa for new head football coach Kalen DeBoer but also for the fans of the Crimson Tide.

Alabama has seen several players enter the transfer portal since Nick Saban’s retirement including key contributors such as Caleb Downs and Kadyn Proctor.

Well, some good news may be on the way for Coach DeBoer and the Alabama faithful as it seems that the Crimson Tide have gained a lot of momentum for four-star EDGE defender Noah Carter.

Carter signed with Coach DeBoer and the Huskies during the early signing period but announced late Wednesday night that he had officially been let out of his national letter of intent to Washington.

In that time, Alabama has been given a handful of Crystal Balls from 247Sports and appears to be the overwhelming favorite to land the talented defender.

Stay tuned to Roll Tide Wire for updates on Carter and the remaining targets for the Crimson Tide.

Alabama lands in top 6 for 2025 3-star WR Edward Coleman

2025 three-star wide receiver Edward Coleman is down to six schools. Alabama is among the schools that have a chance to land the Georgia native.

Alabama could be in a prime position to land a pass-catcher from the Peach State. Recently, 2025 three-star wide receiver Edward Coleman released his top schools list. Alabama made the cut among others.

Coleman plays for Calvary Day School in Savannah, Georgia. As a junior, Coleman had 29 receptions for 340 yards and two touchdowns. He was a key piece of the Cavaliers’ offense alongside 2025 four-star wide receiver Thomas Blackshear.

With Alabama losing two wide receiver commits in the course of a few days, Coleman seems like a vital option moving forward. He has made a trip to Tuscaloosa for an unofficial visit and seems to like what he has seen from the Crimson Tide.
