The Tennessee Titans were able to defeat the Jacksonville Jaguars at home with a final score of 20-42, but it wasn’t without a little help from their star running back, Derrick Henry.

The former Heisman winner absolutely dominated the Jaguars defense on the ground off of 19 carries which produced 159 yards and two touchdowns.

His numbers were not the only aspect of his performance in the contest that was impressive, he managed to score both of his touchdowns within 16 seconds of each other.

Yes, 16 seconds.

The Alabama product’s first touchdown was an incredible display of strength and speed, as he ran 74 yards into the end zone while constantly having to push off defenders attempting to tackle him.

Then, on the very next drive early in the second half, Henry was able to punch himself into the end zone for another touchdown to give Tennessee a comfortable lead with plenty of time left to do more damage.

This win over Jacksonville improves the Titans record to 6-5, which places them into second place in the AFC South.

After having a rough start to the season, the decision to stick with Ryan Tannehill over Marcus Mariota has seemingly paid off.

As long as Tannehill keeps up his high level of production and Henry continues his reign of terror on opposing defensive lines, they just might be able to sneak into the playoffs with a Wildcard spot.

The SEC played numerous cupcakes this past week. Now, the SEC Championship is officially set: the LSU Tigers will face the Georgia Bulldogs in Atlanta.

SEC Mike released his week 14 SEC Power Rankings after last week’s action. Is the criteria of these rankings the best team now? Or the best bodies of work?

Florida over Alabama is an interesting choice, especially since the Crimson Tide only have one loss. Even without Tua, Alabama would beat Florida on a neutral field. Both schools are playing excellent football with their back-up quarterbacks, but haven’t done enough to make the SEC Championship.

If Georgia loses to LSU, then the Crimson Tide may make the playoff despite SEC Mike’s low power ranking. Alabama will need to defeat Auburn and look impressive to make the playoff. It’d be the Crimson Tide’s only ranked win of the season. If the favored teams win out, then Alabama’s resume would be compared with the Utah Utes and the Oklahoma Sooners, who would boast conference championships.

Ohio State again at No. 2 in Amway Coaches Poll

The Ohio State Buckeyes again came in at No. 2 in the Amway Coaches’ Poll, behind top team LSU.

The Top 5 of the Amway Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports remained unchanged this week, with the Ohio State Buckeyes still in the No. 2 spot behind the LSU Tigers. Clemson, Georgia, and Alabama round out the Top 5.

Ohio State’s win over current No. 12 Penn State was not enough to jump the Buckeyes over LSU, though Ohio State did gain a bit of ground on the Tigers. Last week, LSU’s lead was 65 points. This week, that gap shrunk a little, down to 51 points. The Buckeyes also picked up an extra first-place, up to seven from six last week. (Also, only 63 out of 65 voters submitted ballots this week.) Based on this, it’s hard to say if a win over No. 11 Michigan next week will be enough to get Ohio State up to No. 1. Ohio State was last ranked No. 1 in the Amway Coaches Poll during Week 10 of the 2015 season. The Buckeyes did spend one week at No. 1 in the CFP selection committee rankings this year.

Penn State fell from No. 9 to No. 12 with its loss to Ohio State. The Nittany Lions are one spot behind Michigan right now, even though they beat the Wolverines back in Week 8.

In a bit of a surprise, Utah jumped Oklahoma, like due to a combination of another dominant win and Oklahoma barely squeaking out another game. The Utes come in at No. 6, with Oklahoma at No. 7. Florida, Minnesota, and Baylor round out the Top 10.

The Big Ten leads the poll with six ranked teams, followed by the SEC with five. The Big 12, Pac 12, and AAC each have three ranked teams, while the ACC has two and the Sun Belt and Mountain West each have one. The 25th team is independent Notre Dame, who came in at No. 15 this week.

SMU, Texas A&M, and San Diego State dropped out of the rankings this week, while Virginia Tech, Navy, and USC moved in to replace them.

Alabama sticks at No. 5 in latest Amway Coaches Poll

The latest edition of the Amway Coaches Poll is now out, and the Alabama Crimson Tide still sits at No. 5.

Alabama rolled on Saturday against Western Carolina when the Crimson Tide walked away with a 66-3 victory over the Catamounts.

While the opponent won’t do much to impress the College Football Playoff committee, it might not have hurt anything — at least for the time being. The latest Amway Coaches Poll was released on Sunday, and Alabama remained in the Top 5.

Here are some of the other major takeaways from the latest rankings:

  • Oregon fell from No. 6 to No. 13 after losing to a 5-5 Arizona State team
  • Penn State dropped three spots from No. 9 to No. 12 following a 11-point loss to No. 2 Ohio State
  • Baylor found its way back in the top 10 after the a big 24-10 win over Texas
  • Virginia Tech (No. 23), Navy (No. 24) and USC (No. 25) all made their way into the top 25, with USC making the biggest jump moving up 9 spots

Here is how the entire top 25 shook out:

1. LSU (11-0)

2. Ohio State (11-0)

3 Clemson (11-0)

4. Georgia (10-1)

5. Alabama (10-1)

6. Utah (10-1)

7. Oklahoma (10-1)

8. Florida (9-2)

9. Minnesota (10-1)

10. Baylor (10-1)

11. Michigan (9-2)

12. Penn State (9-2)

13. Oregon (9-2)

14. Wisconsin (9-2)

15. Notre Dame (9-2)

16. Auburn (8-3)

17. Cincinnati (10-1)

18. Memphis (10-1)

19. Boise State (10-1)

20. Iowa (8-3)

21. Oklahoma State (8-3)

22. Appalachian State (10-1)

23. Virginia Tech (8-3)

24. Navy (8-2)

25. USC (8-4)

Alabama will take on No. 16 Auburn at Jordan-Hare Stadium to wrap up the regular season. That game should go a long way in determining the Crimson Tide’s chances of making it to the College Football Playoff.

Week 13 CFP Implications: We know our contenders

With our Week 13 CFP Implications, we are able to look at the College Football Playoff picture with just two weeks to go.

With just two weeks left in the college football season, we usually have a small list of contenders remaining in the College Football Playoff race. The list of contenders is currently at 11, which is slightly above average.

We have 11 contenders for the next two weeks because there are so many teams with one or fewer losses. Two teams with two losses are still in the picture–Wisconsin and Oregon. Oregon essentially needs a miracle to get into the picture, while Wisconsin could have an incredible resume with two more wins.

So, that brings us to where we are now. 11 teams–three from the Big Ten, three from the SEC, two from the Big 12, two from the Pac 12, and Clemson. Wisconsin and Minnesota play an elimination game this week, with the winner moving on to the Big Ten Championship Game. LSU and Georgia will meet in the SEC Championship Game, while Alabama needs a win and then some help to get in. Utah looks in decent position now. And Oklahoma and Baylor can just win and hope the committee starts to like the Big 12 again.

The stage is very clearly set for what should be an intense final two weeks to the college football season. With that said, let’s look at the current Playoff pecking order, and what scenarios could possibly throw things out of whack. What teams are locks if they win out, who needs a little help, who is on the bubble, and who is officially a member of Team Chaos? Let’s look at as many of the potential scenarios as we can.

The Alabama Crimson Tide defeated the Western Carolina Catamounts with a finals score of 66-3 to improve to 10-1 on the 2019 regular season.

This game was a true test of the Alabama offense without Tua Tagovailoa on the field.

Redshirt-Sophomore quarterback Mac Jones stepped up big time in place of Tagovailoa, completing 10 of 12 pass attempts for 275 yards and three touchdowns, all while not turning the ball over.

The freshman younger brother of Tua, Taulia Tagovailoa, also got to take some snaps at quarterback.

He completed two of three pass attempts for a single touchdown late in the fourth quarter.

The passing attack turned out to be the most successful method of production as the Alabama offense totaled 310 yards and four touchdowns.

Devonta Smith continues to shine in his Junior season and make a strong case for being a first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, today he reeled in four receptions for 94 yards and two touchdowns.

Jaylen Waddle also got in on the action as he had three catches for 101 yards and a single touchdown that highlighted his breakaway speed along the sideline.

The running game also proved to be effective as Najee Harris had 14 carries for 66 yards, one rushing touchdown and one receiving touchdown.

While Harris remains the star of the Alabama backfield, a young face made a strong appearance late in the game.

Freshman Keilan Robinson had eight carries for 92 yards and a touchdown in his brief appearance against the Catamounts.

The defense had another impressive outing as they were able to bring in four interceptions, two a piece for Xavier McKinney and Jared Mayden.

Overall, Western Carolina’s offense was held to 179 yards, 112 in the air and 67 on the ground.

This was a game many anticipated Alabama would walk away with a win, but the true test will be n the Crimson Tide’s final regular season game of the year as they’ll travel to Auburn and take on the Tigers, a game that will have some hefty playoff implications.

Tua Tagovailoa thanks Alabama Nation for their love and prayers

In an interview with ESPN’s Lauren Sisler, Tua Tagovailoa got emotional as he thanked Alabama Nation for their love and support

Exactly one week ago today, Tua Tagovailoa endured a season ending injury against Mississippi State that left him with a dislocated hip and broken nose, both which required surgery.

But for Tagovailoa, there wasn’t anything that was going to keep him away from Bryant-Denny Stadium to root on fellow quarterback Mac Jones, as well as the senior class are playing their last home game in Bryant-Denny Stadium.

In a sideline interview with ESPN’s Lauren Sisler, Tua Tagovailoa got emotional as he thanked Alabama Nation for their love and support this past week.

Alabama-Western Carolina: Halftime report

Alabama leads the Western Carolina Catamounts 38 – 0 at the half in a game that has displayed Alabama’s dominance on both sides of the ball.

The Alabama Crimson Tide leads the Western Carolina Catamounts 38 – 0 at the half in a game that has displayed Alabama’s dominance on both sides of the ball.

Offensively, Mac Jones has had an impressive first half completing 9 of 11 passes for 253 yards and 3 TDs. DeVonta Smith finished the first half with 3 receptions for 79 yards and TD. Jaylen Waddle has put on a show in the first half as he also has 3 receptions, but for 101 yard and a TD.

Defensively, Alabama has showcased a dominance we’ve been expecting to see all season led by Xavier McKinney who recorded two first half interceptions, one of which was returned 81 yards for a TD, as well as a forced fumble. The defense has also sacked WCU’s Tyrie Adams 4 times so far in the game. They have held Western Carolina’s quarterback, Tyrie Adams, to only 84 yards passing and 2 INTs.

Alabama will need to start the second half with the same energy and momentum. It will be interesting to see if Mac Jones starts the second half, or if we will see Tua Tagovailoa’s younger brother, Taulia, in at quarterback.

Stay tuned for more news, updates and highlights from Roll Tide Wire as the second half gets underway!
