2025 4-star RB Akylin Dear commits to Alabama over two SEC foes

2025 four-star running back Akylin Dear announced his commitment to Alabama on Tuesday. Dear recently decommitted from Ole Miss.

The Alabama Crimson Tide continue to have abundant success on the recruiting trail. On Tuesday, 2025 four-star running back Akylin Dear announced his commitment to Alabama. He chose the Crimson Tide over the Ole Miss Rebels and Mississippi State Bulldogs.

Dear was committed to Ole Miss from March 30 to June 28. The native of Quitman, Mississippi remained in contact with Alabama running backs coach Robert Gillsepie despite his commitment to the Rebels. After months of working to flip Dear’s commitment, the hard work has paid off for Gillespie and the Crimson Tide.

Dear is ranked as a top-5 running back by all recruiting services and a top-2 player in the state of Mississippi in the 2025 recruiting class. If things hold, Dear will suit up with another top-ranked running back in Tuscaloosa in Alabama commit and four-star running back Anthony “Turbo” Rogers. The two could form one of the more dynamic backfields in the country.

During his junior season, Dear rushed for 2,016 yards and 27 touchdowns. 22 of his 27 touchdowns came during the last five games of the season.

Despite Dear’s commitment, there is still a strong chance that Ole Miss continues to recruit him until early national signing day.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow the latest regarding the Alabama football program and its efforts on the recruiting trail.

Alabama included in finalists for 2025 5-star running back

The five-star prospect is now down to three.

One of the Alabama Crimson Tide’s top remaining uncommitted targets has officially narrowed his list of finalists, as highly-touted running back Akylin Dear announced his top three schools Thursday afternoon.

Alongside the Crimson Tide, Dear also included both the Mississippi State Bulldogs and Ole Miss Rebels, as well as set a commitment date of August 20.

Dear is currently ranked as the nation’s No. 31 overall prospect according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings, as well as the No. 2 running back in the country. A five-star prospect, Dear is also the No. 3 player in Mississippi for the 2025 cycle where he attends Quitman High School.

The five-star was also previously committed to Ole Miss, but decommitted from the Rebels back in late-June to re-open his recruitment.

Alabama already holds two commitments from the state of Mississippi in this cycle with five-star wide receiver Caleb Cunningham and three-star defensive lineman London Simmons. Could they potentially make it three with Dear?

Four-star RB Akylin Dear includes Auburn in top 12

One of the best running backs in the 2025 class in Akylin Dear has dropped his top 12 schools, including Auburn in the list.

[autotag]Akylin Dear[/autotag] has easily submitted himself to be one of the most elusive and dangerous running backs in the 2025 recruiting class, with many big name programs on the hunt to land him. Now, the four-star out of Quitman High School (Miss.) has shortened his list to just 12 schools.

That list includes the likes of Auburn, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Miami, Texas, Florida State, Florida, Ohio State, Texas A&M, Mississippi State and Ole Miss.

Head coach [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] and running backs coach [autotag]Derrick Nix[/autotag] visited Dear back in late January, where the visit gave the running back a positive outlook on Auburn’s program.

Dear is ranked as the No. 64 overall player and No. 3 running back in the On3 industry ranking. He is also ranked the No. 3 player in the state of Mississippi.

Auburn’s 2025 recruiting class has the potential to improve its stock from its current No. 8 national ranking if Dear commits and signs. He would be the Tigers’ first running back of the class.

Ohio State football offers 2025 4-star running back from Mississippi

The Buckeyes offer one of the best running back in the 2025 class

There is going to be a need for running backs for Ohio State football next season, and it seems like head coach Ryan Day knows it.

TreVeyon Henderson will exhaust his eligibility, while Quinshon Judkins should be off to the NFL as well as an early entry player. Lost both will take a hit off of the Buckeyes depth, so an offer out to Mississippi’s [autotag]Akylin Dear[/autotag] makes perfect sense.

The 6-foot, 1-inch and 200-pound running back is one of the best in the country, ranking as the No. 4 player at his position and 68th overall prospect according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Ohio State currently does not have a running back commit in Dear’s class.

Four-star RB adds Florida visit to busy spring schedule

The University of Florida will be the first of many spring visits for Akylin Dear, one of the elite running backs in the class of 2025.

Several of the top uncommitted recruits from the class of 2025 are loading up their spring schedules with visits to Power Five programs. Quitman (Mississippi) running back [autotag]Akylin Dear[/autotag] plans to start his spring tour with a stop at the University of Florida.

Dear visited The Swamp last spring with a group of Mississippi-based prospects. After sitting on a scholarship offer for almost a year, he’ll return to Hogtown March 7-9, according to Swamp247’s Blake Alderman. Florida running backs coach Jabbar Juluke is among the most persistent recruiters after him.

Juluke landed fellow Mississippi native Kahnen Daniels in the 2024 class and has Florida in the mix with Dear. He’s also planning to visit Georgia on March 16 and Florida State on March 23. Auburn, Mississippi State and Ole Miss are on the list but don’t have dates yet. Alabama, Texas A&M, and the two in-state schools will likely host official visits over the summer. Florida is hoping to join that list.

Dear isn’t going to rush a decision. He could wait until after the start of his senior season to pick a school, but that doesn’t mean Florida can slow down its pursuit of him.

Dear is a consensus four-star recruit ranked the highest by ESPN at No. 58 overall in the country. The On3 industry ranking, which considers all four major recruiting services in the country, puts Dear at No. 149 overall and No. 10 among running backs in the class of 2025. He’s also the fourth-highest-ranked recruit out of Mississippi in his class.

Auburn is one of 4-star RB Akylin Dear’s ‘favorite offers’

Auburn is looking to land some impressive running backs in the 2025 recruiting cycle and Akylin Dear is a name to know.

Auburn has a major need at running back in the 2025 recruiting cycle and one of their top targets is four-star prospect [autotag]Akylin Dear[/autotag]. Head coach [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] and new offensive coordinator and running backs coach [autotag]Derrick Nix[/autotag] visited the Quitman, Mississippi, product on Tuesday.

It was a big visit for Dear, who told On3’s Cole Pinkston that it “went great.”

“Actually, Auburn is one of my favorite offers I have,” he added. “Growing up, they were my favorite team. It went great, Auburn is recruiting me hard.”

The Tigers are not the only school pursuing the 6-foot-1, 200-pounder with Florida, Alabama, USC, Florida State, and others visiting him recently. While they have competition, Dear admitted that the Tigers are in a great spot to land the talented tailback.

“They’re in my top for sure,” Dear said. “I don’t want to say where, but just know, yes sir.”

Dear is the No. 148 overall player and No. 10 running back in the On3 industry ranking. He is also the No. 4 player from Mississippi.

Gators make top 3 for 4-star 2025 running back recruit

The Gators made the latest cut for this Magnolia State blue-chip running back.

Billy Napier and Co. are in the midst of the college football regular season but that has not slowed down Florida football on the recruiting trail. Ahead of the Gators’ first win of the 2023 campaign, a coveted member of the 2025 cycle narrowed his list of preferred schools down to three — including the Orange and Blue.

Four-star running back [autotag]Akylin Dear[/autotag] out of Quitman (Mississippi) told Gators Online’s Cory Bender that Florida, along with the Alabama Crimson Tide and Ole Miss Rebels, represent his top three preferred collegiate destinations. The 6-foot-1-inch, 200-pound ground grinder appears to be quite enamored with what Napier and Co. are putting together in the Swamp.

“It’s different; it’s way different from every school I’ve been to. I see myself at Florida,” Dear told Bender. “I know there was no football game going on when I went down there, but the atmosphere was perfect when I was there.”

Running backs coach Jabbar Juluke has been the main point of contact between the high school junior and the Gators.

“He shows me a lot of love,” he said of Juluke. “He likes how I run the ball. We run the ball a lot. He’s a good person.”

As for a possible visit date, Dear has the latter part of the season in his sights for a Gainesville visit.

“For one game day, I should be able to make it down. Maybe the one vs. Florida State (on Nov. 25).”

Dear is ranked No. 134 overall and No. 12 at his position nationally according to the 247Sports composite while the On3 industry ranking has him at Nos. 180 and 17, respectively. On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine has Ole Miss in the lead with a 43.5% chance of landing him, followed by the Florida State Seminoles (19.9%), Florida (17.1%) and the Southern Miss Golden Eagles (1.3%).

Georgia offers 2025 RB Akylin Dear

UGA football offers talented 2025 running back recruit Akylin Dear

The Georgia Bulldogs and running backs coach Dell McGee are looking for the next great running back to play between the hedges. McGee and the University of Georgia offered a scholarship to class of 2025 running back recruit Akylin Dear.

Dear plays high school football for Quitman High School in Quitman, Mississippi. Dear is an unranked recruit, but he will be ranked soon. Georgia does not offer players that end up unranked.

The 6-foot-1, 200-pound running back could be the next great back at Georgia. The Dawgs went into Mississippi to land a commitment from  running back Branson Robinson a few years ago.

Georgia football is hot early in the 2025 recruiting cycle. The Dawgs have commitments from three five-star recruits in the current sophomore class. Winning back-to-back national championships certainly helps Georgia’s recruiting pitch.

The 2025 running back has secured an invitation to the 2025 Under Armour All-America Game. Akylin Dear has gone on recent visits to Georgia and Alabama. Dear has excellent strength.

Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Penn State are among the more than dozen schools to offer the Quitman standout. Mississippi and Mississippi State are always strong at recruiting in-state prospects, but Georgia has had success recruiting the state in recent seasons under Kirby Smart.

Dear announced his scholarship offer from Georgia football via Twitter:

Alabama offers 2025 RB Akylin Dear from Mississippi

2025 running back Akylin Dear received an offer from Alabama. Dear plays for Quitman High School in Quitman, Mississippi.

The Alabama coaching staff recently extended an offer to 2025 running back Akylin Dear.

Dear plays for Quitman High School in Quitman, Mississippi. His sophomore highlight tape shows his ability to over-power defenders and pick up big chunks of yardage. His running style is somewhat reminiscent of Leonard Fournette.

Alabama is already recruiting a handful of other running backs in the 2025 recruiting cycle like Alvin Henderson and Anthony Rogers.

With Dear living less than two hours away from Tuscaloosa, he could look to make multiple trips in the future. He will have both his junior and senior year to take visits.
