Draft grades for the Los Angeles Rams selection of AJ Arcuri in the seventh round

Draft grades for the Los Angeles Rams selection of AJ Arcuri in the seventh round

Many were surprised to see Michigan State football offensive tackle selected in the seventh round by the Los Angeles Rams, but the pick makes a lot of sense. While Arcuri may not be a world-beater at the tackle position, he has NFL size, was able to play both right and left tackle, and ultimately was probably Michigan State’s most reliable offensive lineman these past few years.

Below, we took a look at how some in the media are grading the Rams selection of Arcuri with pick No. 261 in the seventh round.

Grading every Rams pick in the 2022 NFL draft

The Rams made eight selections in the 2022 NFL draft and we handed out grades for each prospect they drafted.

Fans of the Los Angeles Rams have grown accustomed to waiting for their beloved team to make a selection in the NFL draft in recent years. The Rams have taken an aggressive approach in trading picks in exchange for proven talent, which resulted in them winning a Super Bowl this past season.

On Friday night, the Rams finally made their first selection of the 2022 NFL draft at pick No. 104. Los Angeles took Logan Bruss out of Wisconsin, an interior offensive lineman that addresses a need on the roster.

While we won’t know if certain picks are a success for years to come, I’ll be handing out grades for each prospect the Rams select in the draft. Each grade is based on the team’s needs, other prospects that were available at the pick, and whether or not the prospect fits the makeup of the current roster.

Arcuri was a member of Mark Dantonio’s 2016 recruiting class, but excelled the most after the coaching change was made and Mel Tucker and company took over. Arcuri was an anchor at both the right and left tackle spots for Michigan State.

Arcuri joins fellow Spartan offensive lineman Brian Allen in Los Angeles.

Michigan State Spartan fans got a late surprise when a fourth Spartan was selected in the 2022 NFL Draft. Spartan fans were not sure if there was going to be more than three players drafted in this year’s draft, but AJ Arcuri gave them a very pleasant surprise. The Los Angeles Rams selected Arcuri in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft with the 261st overall selection.

Check out below how Twitter reacted to the surprise selection by the Rams, and giving the Spartans their fourth draftee of the 2022 NFL Draft:

Rams select Michigan State OT AJ Arcuri with 261st overall pick in 2022 NFL draft

To complete their 2022 NFL draft class, the Rams took Aj Arcuri out of Michigan State to provide them with more depth in the trenches.

The Los Angeles Rams lost Andrew Whitworth to retirement this offseason, so offensive tackle became a potential position to target in the 2022 NFL draft. After spending most of their picks on defense, the Rams used their final pick in the draft on AJ Arcuri, an offensive tackle out of Michigan State.

The Rams acquired the 261st overall pick in a trade with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, along with the 235th overall pick, which turned into Daniel Hardy earlier in the seventh round. Arcuri will become a depth piece on Los Angeles’ offensive line behind tackles like Joseph Noteboom and Rob Havenstein.

At Michigan State, Arcuri was named to the Academic All-Big Ten five times. He graduated with his bachelor’s degree in 2020 and was a semifinalist for the 2021 William V. Campbell trophy.

Arcuri is a massive tackle that is plenty strong enough to handle power rushers in the NFL. Before getting an opportunity to see meaningful snaps, Arcuri would benefit from developing behind Noteboom and Havenstein.

The National Football Foundation’s Hampshire Honor Society honors college football players who have maintained at least a 3.2 GPA throughout their entire collegiate career. On Wednesday, it was announced that Michigan State football offensive linemen Luke Campbell and AJ Arcuri would receive the award after six years with Michigan State.

Matt Wenzel of MLive had the scoop first:

AJ Arcuri a semi-finalist for the Campbell Trophy

MSU OT AJ Arcuri is a semifinalist for the Campbell Trophy

Michigan State offensive lineman AJ Arcuri made headlines this week for an off-the-field matter. Although, this is a great matter to be intertwined with.

Arcuri is being recognized as a semifinalist for the Campbell Trophy, he is one of 176 semifinalists across college football.

The Campbell Trophy is given out to honor the best scholar-athletes in football. It takes a combination of academic success, on-field performance and leadership skills into who is honored.

It is great to see the Spartan football team have success both on and off of the field.

Five Michigan State football players make Senior Bowl watchlist

5 Spartans named to the senior bowl watchlist

The Senior Bowl is an annual event for graduating seniors to showcase their talents to NFL scouts, while subsequently getting coaching from NFL coaches. It is a semi big deal, and a way to get on teams radars in order to be drafted.

To play in the senior bowl you need to be selected by the senior bowl committee, which usually means having a good senior season.

In a preseason watchlist, five members of the Spartans team were recognized. QB Anthony Russo and offensive lineman AJ Arcuri, Matt Allen, Blake Bueter, and Kevin Jarvis were all named to the list.
