Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes draws interest in WNBA expansion to Kansas City

Could #Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes help bring professional basketball back to Kansas City?

According to a report by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his wife Brittany could be looking to expand their sports franchise portfolio.

The entrepreneurial couple already owns a stake in the KC Current of the National Women’s Soccer League, the Kansas City Royals, and Sporting KC.

This week, it was reported that the KC Current ownership group, which includes the Chiefs’ star signal-caller, met with the WNBA to discuss bringing an expansion team to Kansas City.

According to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the league is interested in adding franchises, and the KC Current’s ownership group seems to be vying for the deal.

Take a look at Schefter’s report, which was shared on his official Twitter account:

Though no deal seems to be imminent, sports fans in Kansas City have long hoped for basketball’s return to the Show Me State, and Mahomes may be able to deliver if things get serious with the WNBA.

Will DK Metcalf play vs Bills this week? Latest injury update for Seahawks WR

Will DK Metcalf play vs Bills this week? Latest injury update for Seahawks WR

The Seattle Seahawks secured a 34-14 win over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday to snap their three-game losing streak, but it may have come at a bit of a cost. Star wide receiver DK Metcalf, after a phenomenal performance which saw him haul in four passes for 99 yards and a touchdown, left the game early with an apparent knee injury.

When asked about it postgame, head coach Mike Macdonald seemed optimistic about Metcalf’s condition, but would know more on Monday. Well, Monday is here, and now we know more. Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Metcalf is dealing with a Grade 1 MCL sprain, and as such, he is considered “week-to-week” for his availability.

For those who are unfamiliar with how the grading system for MCL’s work, a Grade 1 sprain means some tenderness and minor pain. For reference, linebacker Uchenna Nwosu suffered a sprained MCL in the preseason finale, which kept him out until Week 5, had a Grade 2 sprain.

The Seahawks have an impending showdown with the Buffalo Bills this coming weekend, and at this time, we do not know if he will play or not. Obviously, this is not a game Seattle would want to be without Metcalf, or the following week against the Los Angeles Rams. However, in Week 10 the team will have their bye.

If Metcalf is to miss some time, the silver lining is the Seahawks are deep at wide receiver. Expect Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Tyler Lockett to have increased roles in an offense without No. 14 in the lineup, as well as getting tight ends Noah Fant and AJ Barner more involved.

Of course, Seahawks Wire will have you covered for all injury related news for Metcalf this week and beyond.

Report: Commanders RB Brian Robinson Jr. expected to play in Week 7 vs. Panthers

Good news for the Commanders.

Washington Commanders running back Brian Robinson Jr. was listed as questionable on Friday’s final injury report ahead of the Week 7 matchup against the Carolina Panthers.

Robinson missed last week’s game against the Baltimore Ravens with a knee injury. Head coach Dan Quinn sounded optimistic about Robinson’s chances to play when he spoke to the media Friday.

“Yeah, Brian had a good week, so everything’s trending up,” Quinn said. “We’ll take him through tomorrow and into the game and see what it looks like. But it was a hard miss last week, and so it’s good to see him trending in the right spots and we’ll see him make sure recoveries and all the stuff into tomorrow and into the game.”

Late Saturday night, Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that Robinson was expected to play in Week 7.

That’s certainly good news for Washington. Robinson leads the Commanders with 325 rushing yards, averaging 4.5 yards per carry and five touchdowns.

Insider gives update on Davante Adams trade: Bad news for Steelers

Insider Adam Schefter confirmed the Raiders asking price for Davante Adams, and the team is unwilling to budge. Will he stay in Las Vegas?

Appearing on the Pat McAfee Show on Monday morning, insider Adam Schefter reported some troubling news for fans of the black and gold hoping their team can acquire 31-year-old All-Pro receiver Davante Adams.

While it was speculated that the New York Jets and New Orleans Saints, two of the favorites to land the wide receiver, were backing off the aggressiveness of their pursuit of Adams, Schefter reported that remaining in Las Vegas is looking more like the realistic possibility as time goes on.

Schefter confirmed the Raiders’ required asking price for their player but added a new layer of drama—the team does not want to take on any of Adams’ salary and will not budge on these two areas of the trade. It was also reported that the All-Pro receiver is a major fan of current Raiders QB Aiden O’Connell, and many within the Raiders organization could welcome him back.

Will the Pittsburgh Steelers attempt to meet the Raiders’ demands? Or will the ‘Steel City’ look elsewhere for the receiver position? Stay with us at SteelersWire as this situation continues to unfold.

Report: Chiefs ‘not expected to be an option’ in trade for Raiders WR Davante Adams

According to a report from Adam Schefter, the #Chiefs are “not expected to be an option” in a trade for #Raiders WR Davante Adams.

Despite speculation that the Kansas City Chiefs could be interested in trading for Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams, NFL insider Adam Schefter reported on Wednesday that the defending champions are “not expected to be an option” in any deal involving the All-Pro pass catcher.

The news comes just days after star wideout Rashee Rice was injured in Kansas City’s Week 4 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday afternoon.

Rice is expected to miss extended time, though his official injury status remains unknown heading into the Chiefs’ Week 5 tilt against the New Orleans Saints on “Monday Night Football.”

Kansas City hasn’t yet made any moves in response to Rice’s injury, and at this juncture, it seems more likely that general manager Brett Veach will elevate a wide receiver from the Chiefs’ practice squad rather than trade for an already-established talent like Adams.

Stay tuned to see how Veach decides to deal with Rice’s absence.

Adam Schefter says Mike Shanahan is a ‘no-brainer’ for Hall of Fame

Mike Shanahan reaching the Hall of Fame with the 2025 class is a “no-brainer,” according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Wait, Mike Shanahan isn’t in the Pro Football Hall of Fame?

Current Denver Broncos coach Sean Payton assumed Shanahan wasn’t in yet because he wasn’t eligible. Shanahan is eligible, and a Hall of Fame nod is long overdue. ESPN’s Adam Schefter believes Canton could be calling soon.

Shanahan, who has not coached since 2013, more than meets the qualifications of being out of pro football for five years. And after winning two Super Bowls as head coach and one as an assistant, and coordinating two of the first six offenses to score 500 points, one should wonder why he is not in the Hall.

Thankfully, Schefter makes it very clear why, in 2025, the buck stops here for Shanahan and the Hall.

“I do know, having been a voter for four or five years in the past, that if I were in that room, you would have my undivided support,” Schefter said during a recent episode of his podcast with Shanahan, via Aric DiLalla of DenverBroncos.com. “And I certainly hope there are enough other people that also feel that way.

“Again, when you have the records that you do, the marks that you set, the championships that you have, the MVPs you coached and the coaching tree you produced, this should be, to me, if you don’t mind me saying, a no-brainer.”

While Schefter can only do so much, seeing those in the media campaign for such a legendary and innovative coach is a positive development, and Shanahan might now have the momentum to finally reach Canton as a member of the 2025 class.

Adam Schefter says Dolphins should call Broncos about QB Zach Wilson

With Tua Tagovailoa on IR and Skylar Thompson injured, the Dolphins need help at quarterback. Perhaps the Broncos could offer Zach Wilson?

After placing Tua Tagovailoa on injured reserve, the Miami Dolphins will not have their starting quarterback available for at least four games. The first game without Tagovailoa did not go well as Miami fell to the Seattle Seahawks 24-3, and fill-in QB Skylar Thompson suffered a ribs injury.

The next man up in Miami is Tim Boyle, and they also recently signed Tyler Huntley. The Dolphins’ best option might be an outside option (no, not Tom Brady).

During an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show on Monday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter listed three quarterbacks that he believes Miami should consider targeting in a trade.

“I’d call Denver,” Schefter said, “and I’d say, ‘What would you want for Zach Wilson?'”

Schefter also suggested Russell Wilson (Pittsburgh Steelers) and Dorian Thompson-Robinson (Cleveland Browns) as potential trade candidates for the Dolphins. Schefter made it clear that he was not reporting that contact had been made, but merely that he thinks Miami should be making calls.

The Broncos opted to carry three quarterbacks on their 53-man roster this year: Bo Nix, Jarrett Stidham and Wilson. Denver’s brass has made it clear that the team views Wilson as a player who will start in the NFL again in the future, but he’s currently the third-string quarterback on the Broncos’ depth chart.

Denver acquired Wilson from the New York Jets in exchange for a sixth-round draft pick this spring. If Stidham is poised to remain as Nix’s backup this season, the Broncos should consider sending Wilson to Miami. If the team can get a higher pick than what it cost to acquire him, or if they can land a player from the Dolphins who could contribute right away, sending Wilson to Miami could be a smart move for Denver.

Falcons officials see Week 3 matchup vs. Chiefs as most important game ever at Mercedes-Benz Stadium

#Falcons officials are said to view Atlanta’s Week 3 matchup against the #Chiefs as the most important in Mercedes-Benz Stadium’s history

The Kansas City Chiefs will have a target on their backs all season as defending Super Bowl champions, and according to a report from Adam Schefter, their matchup against the Atlanta Falcons might have even more edge than usual.

On Sunday morning, Schefter tweeted that some Falcons officials view Atlanta’s Week 3 tilt against the Chiefs as the most important game in the history of Mercedes-Benz Stadium, which is in its eighth season.

Though it didn’t seem that a formal poll had been conducted, Schefter’s report was an early indication that the Falcons’ effort will be at an all-time high when Atlanta faces Kansas City on Sunday Night Football.

Every team that goes against the Chiefs knows that a win over the defending champions could make or break their seasons, and Atlanta will have a home-field advantage in their effort to knock off Kansas City in Week 3.

Expect to see both teams play with maximum effort on Sunday night as they look to establish themselves early in the season.

Report: Chiefs star left Arrowhead Stadium on crutches, in boot after injury vs. Bengals

According to a report, #Chiefs RB Isiah Pacheco left Arrowhead Stadium on crutches and in a boot after Kansas City’s win over the #Bengals.

The Kansas City Chiefs narrowly earned their second win of the 2024 regular season on Sunday by defeating the Cincinnati Bengals 26-25 after a walk-off field goal by kicker Harrison Butker.

Before the game-winning boot by Butker, Kansas City’s offense was largely led by running back Isiah Pacheco, who rumbled for 90 yards on 19 carries against Cincinnati’s stout defense.

In the second half, Pacheco exited the field and seemed to be in pain on the sideline.

According to NFL Insider Adam Schefter, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid told the media that the former Rutgers star was being evaluated for an ankle injury.

After Schefter’s post, another report from ESPN reporter Jeff Darlington revealed that Pacheco left Arrowhead Stadium on crutches and in a boot after the game.

Pacheco has been a rock-solid contributor in Reid’s offense and is among Kansas City’s most valuable players.

Stay tuned as news of Pacheco’s status develops ahead of the Chiefs’ Week 3 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons on September 22.

Chiefs WR ‘Hollywood’ Brown will reportedly miss the 2024 regular season

Kansas City #Chiefs WR ‘Hollywood’ Brown will reportedly miss the 2024 regular season | @EdEastonJr

The news early Friday morning that Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown had been placed on injured reserve appears to be only the beginning of the veteran’s troubles.

According to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Brown, who is expected to undergo surgery for his injured SC joint on Monday, will miss the entire 2024 regular season. The new information from Schefter is grim but not officially announced by the team. However, he details that due to recovery time, there is a chance he could play for the Chiefs in the postseason.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid spoke with reporters about his thoughts and wishes for Brown as he deals with this unfortunate injury after one preseason game. Chiefs V.P. of Sports Medicine and Performance Rick Burkholder also said that Brown’s injury didn’t heal correctly, requiring surgery after several specialists worked with him over the past few weeks.

Brown signed a one-year contract with the Chiefs during the offseason to help lead the way in their receivers’ room. He formed a bond and chemistry with Patrick Mahomes and the younger receivers and strongly performed in training camp. His brief stint on the field for preseason on August 10th in Jacksonville is still his only moment in a game in a Chiefs uniform.
