Aaron Murray predicts Tennessee to score more than 13 points against Georgia

Former Bulldogs’ quarterback Aaron Murray predicts Tennessee to score more than 13 points against Georgia.

Tennessee (5-4, 3-3 SEC) will host No. 1 Georgia (9-0, 7-0 SEC) Saturday at Neyland Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m. EST and CBS will televise the Southeastern Conference East division matchup.

Georgia has not allowed more than 13 points this season to its opponents.

Tennessee’s lowest point total under first-year head coach Josh Heupel is 14. The Vols lost, 38-14, at Florida on Sept. 25.

Ahead of Saturday’s contest, former Bulldogs’ quarterback Aaron Murray provided his Tennessee-Georgia score prediction with UGA Wire.

Murray is predicting for the Vols to become the first team to score more than 13 points against Georgia. His score prediction is Georgia winning, 42-17.

Below are score predictions from former Georgia players that have Tennessee scoring double-digit points in the contest.

Former SEC QB: ‘I think the Clemson ship has sailed’

A former SEC quarterback and current college football analyst recently discussed Clemson’s struggles this season and seems to believe that Dabo Swinney’s dynasty is over.

Aaron Murray, the former Georgia quarterback who is now a CBS Sports analyst, talked about the Tigers coming off their 27-17 loss at Pittsburgh last week during which quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei was benched for two series and replaced by Taisun Phommachanh.

“I think the Clemson ship has sailed,” Murray said this week on the Punt & Pass Podcast with former UGA punter Drew Butler. “I think both of us were pretty confident that Pittsburgh was going to win that football game. To me, it’s now Dabo is – I’m not saying cleaning house – but it’s almost open competition, even for D.J. U.”

Butler pointed out that Clemson (4-3, 3-2 ACC) is one of only two Power Five teams – along with 0-7 Arizona – that have yet to score 20 points in regulation against an FBS opponent this season.

Murray compared Clemson’s down year in 2021 to LSU’s down year a season ago — when Ed Orgeron’s team went 5-5 after winning the national championship in 2019 — but Murray implied that LSU had an excuse because it is in the SEC as opposed to Clemson playing in the ACC.

“The thing that worries me — obviously with Clemson, they’re not a good football team, they don’t have an offense — but they’re in the ACC,” Murray said. “It’s not like you’re talking about LSU here. LSU had that magical run in ‘19. Joe Burrow and everyone, they’re scoring all these points. They win a national championship, and then you have the COVID year and then they kind of go backwards. They’re 5-5 the next season, and you can say OK, well listen, they lost all those players, they lost coordinators, they’re in the SEC, they’re in the SEC West. Like, that’s fine.

“But the fact that Clemson, this is happening to them, the way they’ve recruited, the coaches that are on that staff, and it’s the ACC. It’s the ACC! This isn’t the SEC. Like, I just can’t believe the talent on that team, that they are where they are right now.”

Murray went on to add that he thinks Clemson is the perfect example of how star ratings and recruiting rankings don’t matter.

“Those stars don’t mean anything,” he said. “Until you go out there and prove it on the field and actually go and win some football games, those stars mean absolutely diddly squat as soon as you sign your letter of intent. And this is the perfect example right now of Clemson, because they have a bunch of four- and five-stars, and they’re a 4-3 football team in the ACC, same level as the Pac-12 right now.”

CFB analyst Aaron Murray calls LSU ‘uninspired’, expects Florida dominance

Former UGA QB Aaron Murray discussed LSU and their uninspired brand of football.

Former Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray is no stranger to teams like LSU and of course Florida, having played in the SEC. The all-time leading passer in SEC history had some strong words for the Tigers-Gators matchup this weekend.

Murray was a guest on ESPNU’s channel on SiriusXM radio. When asked about the matchup between the LSU Tigers and Florida Gators, Murray was quick to paint a picture of just how bad this matchup could be. “I expect Florida to run up and down the field on this team. I just see a lot of uninspired football”, Murray said.

He has not shied away from the fact that he loves the Tigers quarterback Max Johnson. Jokingly bringing up the one-time transfer rules to get him to Athens to play quarterback. When discussing the southpaw, Murray called him a “one-man band.” The Tigers have been average at best in the trenches on both sides of the ball. With no running game and now being without their star receiver, it will be up to Johnson to play the role of hero.

I think Murray speaks to the level of disinterest among the fanbase for this game against the Gators. Given the talk before the season with Florida’s Ventrell Miller essentially guaranteeing a win would spark some sort of fire for this upcoming game. Miller won’t play as he was lost for the season, but the fact that neither team is competing for their divisions has taken some of the luster from this rivalry game.

On a Saturday morning where these teams kick it off at 11:00 a.m. local time, there is no level of anticipation for this game. Given that oddsmakers put this as a double-digit margin, tells you that he could be dead on and it could get ugly this weekend for the Tigers and head coach Ed Orgeron.

National analyst thinks Clemson will be on the ‘outside looking in’ of CFP picture

A few weeks ago on CBS Sports Network, former Georgia quarterback and current CBS Sports college football analyst Aaron Murray called Clemson the most overhyped top-25 team heading into the 2021 season.

But even Murray didn’t expect to see the Tigers’ offense perform so poorly against Georgia last Saturday, when quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei and company managed only 180 total yards of offense, including 2 yards rushing while allowing seven sacks and committing the pivotal pick-six that proved to be the difference in a 10-3 defeat.

Despite Uiagalelei’s showing against the Bulldogs, Murray believes he will still be one of the nation’s best signal-callers moving forward.

“I was surprised,” Murray said of Clemson’s offensive performance against UGA in an appearance on The Zach Gelb Show on CBS Sports Radio. “D.J. Uiagalelei, he looked confused. And I know Kirk Herbstreit said it a lot during the broadcast (on ABC), but it was true – he looked like the game was just happening too fast. I think the kid is uber-talented. I think he’s going to still be – and I think there’s a lot of people out there with the same belief – he’s going to be one of the premier quarterbacks in this country, whether it’s this year or next year before he gets ready for the NFL. He has all the tools.

“Unfortunately, he faced the best defense in the country, Week 1, an offensive line that is not very good, an inability to run the football and just a lot of pressure on him to go out there and be perfect, which is just not feasible against what Georgia was going to be able to bring. So, a little bit surprised.”

While Murray thinks the Tigers will run the table the rest of the way and capture their seventh consecutive ACC title, he isn’t sure it will be enough for them to make the College Football Playoff for the seventh year in a row.

“The good thing for them, just like Georgia, the schedule’s not super tough down the stretch for Clemson,” he said. “They should still take care of business in the ACC. But to me, when you see what happened with the ACC this weekend – Miami got just stomped by Alabama, North Carolina lost a game to Virginia Tech, (Monday night) Louisville lost to Ole Miss. It’s just a very weak conference. So, even if they do win out and win the ACC, I just don’t know if they deserve a chance to be in that final four at the end of the day.”

Although he knows injuries and crazy things can happen in college football, as it stands right now, Murray sees both Georgia and Alabama making the CFP along with Ohio State and Oklahoma, leaving Clemson “on the outside looking in.”

“If Georgia does what they did this past weekend and just gets a little bit better offensively, they should be undefeated,” Murray said. “I don’t think anyone’s taking down Alabama, they’re just too darn good. You have a chance to see two undefeated teams in the SEC Championship Game. It doesn’t matter who wins, who loses, both teams are going to be in the playoff at the end of the day. Then it’s Ohio State most likely, then it’s Oklahoma, and I just think Clemson, even if they’re 12-1, they’re going to be on the outside looking in based on the performance versus the Dawgs and just based on how overall weak the ACC is this year.”

Georgia football play of the day – Georgia vs LSU (2013)

Watch the Georgia football play of the day here!

It’s Wednesday, August 26 and today’s play of the day comes from one of the most exciting games ever played in Sanford Stadium, No. 9 Georgia versus No. 6 LSU on September 28, 2013.

After LSU answered the Bulldogs’ initial touchdown with two of their own late in the first quarter, it was up to star quarterback Aaron Murray and the Georgia offense to lead the Bulldogs back into the game.

LSU made a strong push late, but Georgia would go on to win 44-41 behind four touchdown passes from Murray with 112 receiving yards and this touchdown from receiver Chris Conley.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson now part owner of XFL

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has become a part owner of the XFL, a league that recently had four players representing Georgia football.

Former University of Miami defensive tackle, WWE Superstar and current Hollywood actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has just become a part owner of the Xtreme Football League, also known as the XFL.

Johnson and his business partner Dany Garcia purchased the league’s parent company for $15 million on Monday, following the league shutdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  Gerry Cardinale and his private investment firm RedBird Capital Partners also joined the two on the deal.

The XFL was in its second reboot this year and going very well before the pandemic struck the United States.  The league brought in roughly $14 million in revenue for the first 3 1/2 weeks.  Once the shutdown was inevitable, the league went on to lose $27 million in game day revenue and was forced to file for bankruptcy.

“The acquisition of the XFL with my talented partners, Dany Garcia and Gerry Cardinale, is an investment for me that’s rooted deeply in two things: my passion for the game and my desire to always take care of the fans,” Johnson released in a statement this Monday.

“With pride and gratitude for all that I’ve built with my own two hands, I plan to apply these callouses to the XFL, and look forward to creating something special for the players, fans, and everyone involved for the love of football.”

There are no current blueprints laid out for the league restart, but the deal is expected to be finalized on August 21st.

Four Bulldogs represented the University of Georgia this past season across two teams, the New York Guardians and the Tampa Bay Vipers.

Former Georgia nose tackle Toby Johnson (6-foot-4, 350 pounds) was playing for New York, after spending four years in the NFL playing for six different teams. Last year, Johnson played for the Massachusetts Pirates of the National Arena League.

Johnson came to UGA in 2013 after playing at Hutchinson Community College.

Georgia had three players on the Tamp Bay Vipers – QB Aaron Murray, DB Corey Moore and LS Nick Moore.

Murray broke numerous SEC and Georgia records during his time in Athens. He attempted to play in the NFL, but wasn’t as successful as many thought he would be.  He went on to work for CBS as a broadcaster in addition to playing a season for the Atlanta Legends of the Alliance of American Football in 2019.

Former Georgia safety Corey Moore was undrafted in 2015 but went on to have a solid career in the NFL.  He played for the Houston Texans from 2015-17 and the Indianapolis Colts in 2019. Moore finished his NFL career with 72 tackles, 5 pass deflections and one interception.

Long snapper Nick Moore came to Georgia in 2015 as a Mark Richt recruit. Prior to that, he was drafted by the Boston Red Sox, playing four years of minor league baseball. Moore, from 2015-18, played in 23 games for the Dawgs. He was given an opportunity by the New Orleans Saints but did not earn a roster spot.
