Aaron Murray reveals his dad warned him to stay away from Aaron Hernandez during high school recruiting trip

Aaron Murray revealed that his dad actually warned him to stay away from Aaron Hernandez during a high school recruiting trip to Florida

Aaron Murray signed with Georgia as a five-star quarterback in the class of 2009. Murray, out of Plant High School in Tampa, Florida, chose the Bulldogs over the Gators in April of 2008.

Murray posted a clip from his podcast “SNAPS” on Tuesday detailing a significant experience during his senior year of high school when he went to Gainesville to visit the University of Florida.

Murray and his father arrived in Gainesville, about 90 minutes north of their home in Tampa. Immediately catching Murray’s attention were standout Florida players such as quarterback Tim Tebow and linebacker Brandon Spikes.

And then out walked tight end Aaron Hernandez…

“I remember my dad looking at me,” Murray said, remembering the moment they spotted Hernandez.

“He still reminds me to this day of this, saying ‘I don’t know who that kid really is, but if you commit to Florida I don’t think you should hangout with him.'”

Obviously, Murray’s father’s cautionary statement held some pretty significant weight. Hernandez, a former star tight end for Florida, went on to have a promising career in the NFL with the New England Patriots. That is until he became entangled in criminal activities that included murder.

“It was just the way he (Hernandez) was interacting with coaches and players. Just that kind of look in his eyes. I remember my dad literally looking at me, saying ‘I’m being dead-ass serious here, Aaron. If you commit to Florida, I don’t think you should get anywhere near that kid.

Stay close to Tim, stay far from Aaron.'”

Sometimes parents have that sixth sense when it comes to sniffing out trouble.

11 AFC East stories from last week for Bills fans to know

An AFC East rundown of stories for Buffalo Bills fans to know from the Patriots, Jets, and Dolphins.

You’re probably all on top of the latest news surrounding the Buffalo Bills and we hope Bills Wire helped you get there. But let us keep you up to date with the Bills news, just outside the Bills’ realm.

The upcoming 2020 NFL season has many thinking the Bills are the favorite in the AFC East. But Buffalo isn’t just going to stroll into that title. The Dolphins, Jets, and of course the Patriots, will all have something to say about that.

So let’s stay on top of some of the latest headlines surrounding the Bills’ divisional foes now. Here are 11 news stories from the other three AFC East teams from the last week right here:

Le’Veon Bell promises ‘the best year of my career’ in 2020

In 2019, Jets running back Le’Veon Bell had a poor season, much like quarterback Sam Darnold and the rest of their offense. Bell only rushed for 789 yards, three touchdowns and averaged 3.2 yards per carry in his first season with New York. But the running back has now spoken out on the season that was and projected forward on the season that will be.

Bell, 28, promised 2020 will be much, much better.

“I’ll be so much better, I didn’t give nearly enough… I PROMISE YOU, long as I’m healthy, this will be the best year of my career… & it won’t even be close,” Bell said on Instagram via Jets Wire.

Much of the problems on the Jets offense had to do with the play in the trenches last season. Conor McDermott, a former Bills offensive lineman who spent the bulk of his career in Buffalo as an inactive player on game day, actually was a consistent starter at the end of the 2019 for Gang Green because of injury and poor play. This recent offseason the Jets made an honest effort in free agency and the draft to improve play in the trenches for their offensive playmakers.

But the Bills defense will have something to say about the “best year” of Bell’s career at least twice.

Report: Patriots reach financial settlements on Antonio Brown, Aaron Hernandez

The Patriots have settled grievances with WR Antonio Brown and the late TE Aaron Hernandez

The New England Patriots have come to agreements on the financial grievances they were facing with wide receiver Antonio Brown and the late tight end, Aaron Hernandez, per a report.

Per ESPN:

The Patriots had owed receiver Brown $9 million, and as part of the settlement, he will instead receive $5 million, per sources.

… In addition to that $4 million credit on the Patriots’ cap, the club received a $2.55 million credit after settling a long-running compensation grievance with the late Hernandez, per sources.

The settlements created $6.55 million in cap space, giving the team an available $7.79 million. Prior to the settlements, the Patriots had the least amount of cap space in the league.

In the case of Hernandez, who was released in January 2013, compensation was sought for the final installment of his signing bonus ($3.25 million), his 2013 base salary ($1.32 million), his 2014 base salary ($1.14 million), and his workout bonus ($500,000). He was released in January 2013.

Hernandez committed suicide in prison in April 2017. He was serving a life sentence for murder in the first degree of Odin Lloyd, having been convicted on April 15, 2015.

Report: Patriots settle grievances on Antonio Brown, Aaron Hernandez contracts

The Patriots gained a significant boost in cap space with this.

The New England Patriots cleared up a significant amount of salary-cap space on Saturday, according to ESPN’s Mike Reiss and Field Yates.

The team settled compensation grievances with Aaron Hernandez ($2.55 million) and Antonio Brown ($4 million). They originally owed Brown $9 million, but will give him $5 million as a part of the grievance. The Patriots went from less than $500 thousand in cap space earlier this week to $7.79 million.

New England struggled all offseason with limited financial freedom and it’s made it difficult to sign players, including the rookie class. They began earlier this week by restructuring Rex Burkhead’s contract — which left them with nearly $1 million in cap space.

The Patriots signed Cam Newton on a team-friendly deal and they now have solid depth at all positions. Bill Belichick can use this financial freedom to make moves throughout the season and better manage the roster.

This is significant boost for the team who sat dead-last in cap space all offseason.
