Twitter reacts: Chiefs sign speedy ex-Patriots WR to practice squad

See what #Chiefs fans on Twitter had to say about Kansas City’s decision to sign speedy ex-#Patriots WR Tyquan Thornton.

The Kansas City Chiefs acquired former New England Patriots wide receiver Tyquan Thornton on Monday in a deal that will see the speedy pass-catcher take on a new role as a member of the defending Super Bowl champions’ practice squad.

A former Baylor Bear, Thornton turned heads at the 2022 NFL combine by running a 4.28-second 40-yard dash. His outstanding measurables were enough to entice New England into spending a second-round pick on him in the 2022 NFL draft.

Though he hasn’t yet been able to translate his blazing speed into production as a professional, Thornton now finds himself in the perfect situation to thrive in one of the league’s most revered offenses.

Chiefs fans on Twitter were thrilled to see that Thornton was joining Kansas City’s practice squad, especially after the team’s Week 11 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.

Chiefs trade up with Bills for No. 28 selection in 2024 NFL draft

The #Chiefs traded up with the #Bills to select Texas Longhorns standout WR Xavier Worthy with the No. 28 pick in the 2024 NFL draft.

The Kansas City Chiefs traded with the Buffalo Bills to move up to the No. 28 selection in the 2024 NFL draft.

The move comes amid a particularly perplexing first round that saw a plethora of offensive talent come off the board in the top 15.

With this trade, Kansas City secured the talents of Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy, setting the stage for an offensive rebirth for the Chiefs as they look to defend their Super Bowl LVIII title next season.

Patrick Mahomes needed more help in the passing game, and Brett Veach came through for him in a big way by moving up for Worthy.

One of the most explosive players in the 2024 draft class, Worthy was a dynamic target as a Longhorn, helping spearhead an offensive attack that was a contender in the College Football Playoffs earlier this year.

He set the record for the fastest 40-yard dash in NFL combine history earlier this year.

Chiefs fans are sure to be thrilled with this exceptional selection.

Saints schedule private workout with fast-rising linebacker

The New Orleans Saints scheduled a private workout with fast-rising Temple linebacker Jordan Magee:

The New Orleans Saints scheduled a private workout with Temple linebacker Jordan Magee before the upcoming 2024 NFL draft, according to Justin Melo of The Draft Network, He’s a prospect on the rise after dominating the NFL Scouting Combine, and he’s set Top 30 visits with both the Denver Broncos and Dallas Cowboys. Right now he’s projected to picked on Day 3 between rounds four and seven.

In four seasons at Temple, Magee had 235 tackles with 31 going for a loss and eight sacks. He had a nice performance at the combine, finishing first among linebackers in the 10-yard split with a 1.54 time (4.55-second 40-yard dash). He finished third in the broad jump and fourth in the vertical. His numbers allowed him to finish with a 9.29 Relative Athletic Score, with his biggest downside being his size and lack of confirmed numbers in agility drills.

The signing of Willie Gay makes linebacker a little bit less of an emergency need, but the Saints do need to plan for the future of the position. Demario Davis is still playing at a high level, but is entering his age-35 season and can’t be expected to play much longer. The Saints doing due diligence on the position is expected.

Twitter reacts to Xavier Worthy’s historic 40-yard dash

Users on Twitter were stunned by Xavier Worthy’s record-setting 40-yard dash at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine.

Xavier Worthy is a wide receiver prospect that the Kansas City Chiefs may want to keep their eyes on in the upcoming draft.

He set the record for the fastest 40-yard dash time at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine on Saturday, making a mark for himself in the history books in front of scouts in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Check out this clip of his historic run:

Worthy was a star at the University of Texas, playing alongside Adonai Mitchell in a Longhorns offense that ended the 2023 season with a 12-2 record.

His fantastic showing at the combine is likely to make his draft stock rise before the annual player selection meeting in April and may draw the attention of receiver-needy teams like the Chiefs.

Social media exploded after his official 40-yard dash time was announced, and some users thought that Kansas City could be a logical destination for Worthy:

WATCH: Texas RBs Bijan Robinson and Roschon Johnson at the NFL combine

The dynamic duo of Robinson and Johnson are showing off their skills to NFL scouts at the skills portion of the combine on Sunday.

Two of the top running back prospects in the NFL draft are representing Texas at the combine in Indianapolis this week.

Bijan Robinson is expected to be the first running back off the board come April. The do-it-all player enjoyed an excellent career as a Longhorn, winning the Doak Walker Award as the nation’s best back as a junior in 2022.

Roschon Johnson is an impressive pro prospect in his own right. Johnson served as Robinson’s counterpart for much of his time at Texas. He is a physical change-of-pace back who improved each season after switching from quarterback to running back as a freshman.

The combination of Robinson and Johnson made up one of the best rushing attacks in recent Texas football memory. They totaled over 2,000 rushing yards and 23 touchdowns on the season.

Will Anderson posts an official 4.60 40-yard dash time

Will Anderson blows his 40-yard dash out of the water with remarkable time!

Of all of the players who have come through Tuscaloosa and Nick Saban’s program, it will be hard to find anyone who has bought in more than Will Anderson Jr. did. Anderson has always handled his career with the utmost professionalism whether it be on the field, in workouts or just on campus.

So it should come as no surprise to the Crimson Tide faithful that Anderson absolutely crushed his combine, and specifically his 40-yard dash time. Anderson is technically an EDGE rusher but was lumped in with the linebackers and still put up a remarkable time of 4.60 seconds. A time that had scouts all across the league buzzing.

Scouts have been salivating at Anderson’s length and athleticism all week and have been drawing comparisons to Demarcus Ware and Khalil Mack, both of who turned out to be phenomenal players in the NFL. It’s hard for Anderson to improve his draft stock as he is already a top-five lock, yet, he continues to find ways to impress the scouts.

Saints fielded one of the slower WR groups in the NFL this season

Despite boasting speedsters Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed, the New Orleans Saints fielded one of the slower WR groups in the NFL this season:

Not going to lie, this is a bit of a shock. Despite boasting young speedsters  like Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed, the New Orleans Saints fielded one of the slower wide receiver corps in the NFL in 2022. While Olave and Shaheed have comfortably timed in the 4.3-to-4.4-second range in the 40-yard dash, as a group New Orleans was weighted down by players like Jarvis Landry (4.77), Marquez Callaway (4.55), Tre’Quan Smith (4.49), Michael Thomas (4.57), and Keith Kirkwood (4.50), with dynamic athletes like Kevin White, Deonte Harty, and Kirk Merritt only running a handful of routes over the course of the season.

So it’s clear the Saints need to get faster. Per research from Arjun Menon of Pro Football Focus, New Orleans ranked right around the middle of the pack with the 14th-slowest wide receiver room, based on average 40-yard dash time weighted by routes run. Teams’ leaders in routes run factored heavier than backups and reserves, and the Saints’ top route-runners included Olave (431 routes), Landry (207), Callaway and Shaheed (188 each), and Smith (178).

No receiving corps was slower than the New York Giants, who averaged nearly 4.6 seconds as a group. And the Seattle Seahawks set the pace with a blazing average of roughly 4.37 seconds. For comparison, the Saints scored an average of about 4.47 seconds:

Olave and Shaheed are a fine pair to build around, but the Saints should be looking to get younger at receiver in 2023 — or at least more explosive and athletic. Trotting out players who lack the speed to separate with consistency like Landry and Callaway is asking for trouble. It limits what can be done offensively and narrows the margin for error in demanding a quarterback and receiver be perfectly in sync from the snap to the whistle. There are plenty of slower receiving rooms around the NFL, but the New Orleans offense was so stagnant last season that you’d be forgiven for thinking otherwise.

NFL legend LaDainian Tomlinson high on Georgia football RB Zamir White

LT showing lots of love to Zeus

Georgia Bulldogs running back Zamir White helped his NFL draft stock with an impressive 40-yard dash at the 2022 NFL combine. Known as a bruising, tough-to-tackle back, he showed his speed last week in Indianapolis.

White’s unofficial time of 4.47 was later officially timed as a 4.40. He finished as the seventh-fastest running back in the event, but was only 0.03 seconds off the fastest time for a running back.

NFL legend LaDainian Tomlinson identified White as one of the guys who jumped out to him during the workout.

“A 4.40 for a guy that size is impressive, and he caught the ball well,” Tomlinson said. “This is a guy who can develop into a three-down back. When he comes into the NFL he can provide depth for a team right away.

Another thing is he’s a great protector of the quarterback. I think these teams will go back and look at his game film and see they have this guy ranked too low.”

White’s 40-yard dash time was surprisingly faster than that of his running mate James Cook’s.

Here’s a look at Zeus’ 40-yard dash at the NFL combine:

White is one of the top backs in the 2022 NFL draft. He still has work to do as a receiver, but he is not a fun guy to tackle. White ran for 25 touchdowns in three seasons with the Bulldogs.

White ended his career with a national championship, 856 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns in 2021.

White’s other NFL combine results include a 33.5 inch vertical jump and the tied for best broad jump at 10 feet, 8 inches. Neither White nor Cook participated in the bench press.

Watch: UGA football’s Quay Walker runs fast 40-yard dash

Georgia linebacker Quay Walker was one of several Bulldogs to elevate their draft stock at the NFL combine.

Georgia Bulldogs linebacker Quay Walker ran a 4.52 second 40-yard dash at the 2022 NFL combine in Indianapolis. Walker’s time was the (tied for) fourth-fastest time among linebackers at the combine.

Quay Walker can move for somebody that is 6-foot-4, 241-pounds. Channing Tindall, one of Walker’s Georgia teammates, was one of the only linebackers to clock a faster time than Walker.

Walker is expected to be an early round selection in the 2022 NFL draft, which will be held April 28-30. Walker recorded 63 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and two pass deflections in Georgia’s 2021-2022 college football season.

Here’s a look at Quay Walker’s 40-yard dash:

Quay Walker is far from the only Georgia Bulldog to impress in the 40-yard dash. Jordan Davis shocked the country with a 4.78 second 40-yard dash. Davis’ teammate, Devonte Wyatt, is the only defensive tackle to run a faster time than him.

Overall, the NFL combine is a big win for Georgia football. It is hard to think of a single Bulldog that did not boost their NFL draft stock at the event.
