This would be a monster win for Sarkisian and his staff if they can pull it off.
The Longhorns potentially received great news in the recruiting world on Monday.
Texas’ offense has not been as dynamic as many predicted would happen when offensive guru Steve Sarkisian took the head coaching job. While the offensive line has been a reoccurring issue for the most part, one of the main reasons the offense has struggled are the inconsistences from the wide receivers.
While players like Xavier Worthy and Jordan Whittington have both shown flashes of being studs, they have also both had games where they are practically irrelevant. The duo is clearly the best on the roster up to this point, but they need to produce and catch passes more consistently.
Wide receiver has been one of Sarkisian’s main concerns even dating back to the offseason, and he and his elite staff of recruiters have hit that position hard on the recruiting trail recently.
On Monday, Texas received a crystal ball prediction for one of the fastest receivers in the nation for the 2022 recruiting class, four-star Brenen Thompson. The speedster is ranked the No. 14 overall prospect from the state of Texas and the No. 87 recruit in the country, according to 247Sports composite.
If the Longhorns secure Thompson, they are getting a dynamic playmaker who is a two-sport athlete in football and track and field. He won the Texas 3A 200-meter title (21.27) as a junior, and also earned a silver in the 100-meter (10.40).
Landing Thompson would boost Texas’ 2022 recruiting class, which currently sits at No. 5, to the No. 2 class in the nation. He would also be Texas’ highest rated commitment in the class.
Having him and soon-to-be star Xavier Worthy flying all over the field will make life miserable for opposing defenses.
