List of Patriots’ 2023 pending free agents

Here’s an updated list of the Patriots’ current 2023 free agents.

The start of the new league year is only a day away, and the New England Patriots have already agreed to new deals for two of their pending free agents.

On Sunday, the team re-signed multi-purpose linebacker Raekwon McMillan to a one-year deal, and they followed that up by locking down cornerback Jonathan Jones for two more years on Monday.

The latter agreement was a big one for a Patriots team that was on the verge of having serious question marks in the defensive backfield.

But there’s still plenty of work to be done, especially with coveted players like wide receiver Jakobi Meyers and running back Damien Harris set to hit the open market on Wednesday.

Here’s an updated list of the Patriots’ pending free agents.

The NFL’s top 151 upcoming free agents, Nos. 76-151

The NFL’s new league year is just around the corner, so Doug Farrar put together his list of the top 151 free agents. Here’s 76-151, from Byron Murphy Jr. to Matt Pryor.

Before Derek Carr moved to New Orleans, Geno Smith stayed in Seattle, Daniel Jones got a big new deal, and Lamar Jackson led a list of franchise-tagged players that also included Commanders defensive lineman Daron Payne, Cowboys running back Tony Pollard, Giants running back Saquon Barkley, Raiders running back Josh Jacobs, and Jaguars tight end Evan Engram, the upcoming 2023 class of free agents was packed with marquee names.

Now that those names are off the board, this class is less exceptional in a headline sense — but it doesn’t mean that there aren’t still all kinds of players that could positively alter the course of any team. This class is now wider than it is tall, but it’s very wide. Which is to say, there is impressive talent soon to be available when the new league year begins at 4:00 p.m. EST on Wednesday March 15. And a lot of that talent will be more available to the teams that have really done their homework.

With that in mind, we have done our homework here at Touchdown Wire. This list of the top 151 players who will be free agents when the new league year starts is based on comprehensive tape study, and scouring all kinds of metrics to make sure everything matches up as much as possible in the inexact science of player evaluation. The guys up top are (or should be) still marquee names, though most of them are not offensive skill players.

Where it gets interesting is as you go down the list, Here, you’ll see players who may have tried their best in the wrong systems, players who may have failed to live up to their potential at this time, players who are just getting the hang of things, players who are hanging on to the last vestiges of their estimable careers, and players who might just need the right circumstance and opportunity.

Here, without further ado, is the second half of our list of the top 151 free agents for the 2023 league year, concluding with Nos. 76-151.

Fantasy football: Where will the NFL’s top free agents play in 2023?

Making educated guesses as to where all of fantasy football’s key NFL free agents will play in 2023.

Tuesday is the NFL’s deadline for franchise tagging, and we’ve already seen the likes of Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Evan Engram, Las Vegas Raiders running back Josh Jacobs, and Dallas Cowboys running back Tony Pollard get slapped with the tag as of Monday evening.

Free-agent quarterback Derek Carr inked a four-year, $150 million pact with the New Orleans Saints as the only notable fantasy name to be free to sign anywhere before the market officially opens next week.

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith was given a three-year, $105 million contract extension Monday, which comes as no surprise.

With that out of the way, we’ll take a look at the most likely landing spots for marquee fantasy football names prior to the opening of free agency.

List of available cornerbacks heading into 2023 free agency

There will be plenty of talent for the Patriots to pick from at cornerback in free agency.

The New England Patriots could go in a bunch of different directions with the No. 14 overall pick of the 2023 NFL draft, but considering the current state of things, the cornerback position could use some serious help right now.

Of course, they could mitigate the chances of any desperation moves by going out and signing one of the many available free agent cornerbacks expected to hit the open market.

That list includes veteran corner Jonathan Jones, who could be on the verge of playing outside of New England for the first time in his career.

One thing is certain: The Patriots have other areas to address on the roster outside of cornerback, including offensive tackle and wide receiver. It would be a huge weight lifted if they managed to come away with a veteran playmaker, especially if they lose Jones.

Here are the available cornerbacks set to hit the market.

Raiders to franchise tag RB Josh Jacobs barring long term deal before deadline

If Raiders can’t reach long term deal with RB Josh Jacobs before Tuesday’s deadline they will use the franchise tag to keep him.

We are just a few days until the deadline for teams to use their franchise tag. That means the Raiders have until Tuesday to decide what to do with running back Josh Jacobs.

They have decided that they are going to keep Jacobs no matter how it has to happen, so if that means using the franchise tag, that’s what they will do according to NFL media’s Tom Pelissero.

Recently Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels had said GM Dave Ziegler had been working with Jacobs’s agent to try and get a long term deal done. If the two sides can reach an agreement before Tuesday, they can avoid using the franchise tag.

Even if they do tag Jacobs, they could still ultimately work out a long term deal. The tag would just allow them time to do so.

If Jacobs were amenable, playing on the franchise tag could be a fairly good deal for the Raiders. The RB tag numbers are some of the lowest in the league at around $10 for the season and it would allow the team to see if Jacobs can repeat his breakout 2022 season in which he led the league with 1653 yards rushing and over 2000 yards from scrimmage.

22 pending free agents for Patriots in 2023 offseason

Here’s a list of the pending 2023 free agents for the Patriots.

It will be a crossroads for the New England Patriots in 2023 with many of their key contributors listed as pending free agents.

Things get even trickier with the team basically falling off a cliff, especially on the offensive side of the ball, in the 2022 season. They finished the year with an 8-9 record and missed the playoffs for the second time in three seasons.

The inevitable change that’s to come won’t just be with the coaching staff. This could be the year where we see some household names and legendary figures for the franchise say their goodbyes.

The good news is the team will have a lot of money to play with if they wanted to keep their current roster intact. According to Spotrac.com, the Patriots are ranked eighth in the NFL with $45,191,040 in projected 2023 cap space.

Here are the players currently listed with expiring deals in New England.
