Alabama lands commitment from top junior college WR prospect, Malik Benson

Alabama lands the commitment of top junior college prospect Malik Benson. He has been the top wide receiver target for the coaching staff over the last few months.

Alabama received some good news on Independence Day by landing a commitment from three-star offensive lineman [autotag]RyQueze McElderry[/autotag]. The Crimson Tide continued their recent hot streak by landing junior college wide receiver Malik Benson on Tuesday. He chose Alabama over Tennessee, Oregon, Georgia and LSU.

Benson, who is listed at 6-foot-1 and 185 pounds, is regarded as the top junior college prospect by 247Sports’ recruiting rankings. Last season at Hutchinson Community College, Benson hauled in 43 receptions for 1,229 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns. He creates separation in his route-running and is very dynamic when the ball is in his hands. The Tide has a good reputation for developing wide receivers and Benson could be the next elite wide receiver to come out of Tuscaloosa.

Recently, Alabama’s recruiting trail has begun to pick up steam. Several of the Tide’s top targets are expected to commit to Alabama.

Benson has been a big-time target for the Crimson Tide for quite some time and has the ability to have an immediate impact on the offensive side of the ball next season.

Alabama lands former Georgia commit, RyQueze McElderry

Alabama got good news on July 4 as 2023 three-star offensive lineman RyQueze McElderry committed to Alabama.

The Alabama football team received a bit of good news on Independence Day. 2023 offensive lineman [autotag]RyQueze McElderry[/autotag] announced that he was committing to Alabama via Twitter.

He was formerly committed to Georgia before backing off of his commitment just a few days ago. McElderry has been a priority offensive line target for the Tide even though he was committed to Georgia.

He is regarded as a three-star according to 247Sports’ recruiting rankings. McElderry is listed at 6-foot-3 and 340 pounds. He plays for Anniston High School in Anniston, Alabama. Interestingly enough, he will be reuniting with a high school teammate, Antonio Kite. Since he received an offer in November, he has taken one unofficial visit and attended a junior day.

Alabama fans have high hopes that things will begin to heat up for the recruiting class in the months ahead. Several of the Tide’s key targets like Malik Benson, Peter Woods, Raul Aguirre, and Malik Bryant are all making their commitments in the next few weeks. All are expected to commit to Alabama at this time. Nonetheless, the recruiting class just got a huge boost in landing McElderry. He has sky-rocketed up the Tide’s recruiting board as well as recruiting rankings in the past few months. This is a huge win for the Tide.

Alabama lands star LB from JUCO ranks, Justin Jefferson

Alabama lands a JUCO stud LB in Justin Jefferson!

The Crimson Tide landed a commit from JUCO linebacker Justin Jefferson today. Jefferson attended Pearl River CC in Poplarville, MS, and ran a blistering 4.34 40-yard dash.

Jefferson is 6’3 and 210 pounds, an outstanding frame for an interior linebacker. As a senior in high school, Jefferson was First Team All-State and had 116 tackles. During this past season with Pearl River, he had 53 tackles, three sacks, and one interception in nine games.

Despite being a JUCO guy, Jefferson has garnished a lot of interest as he ultimately chose the Tide over the likes of Auburn, Florida, Oregon and many more.

Alabama Morning Drive: Tide receives a pair of Sunday commitments

Nick Saban and Alabama certainly had a good weekend.

Good Monday morning, ladies and gentlemen! Welcome back to Alabama Morning Drive! I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend. And what a massive recruiting weekend it turned out to be for [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] and the Alabama Crimson Tide.

The good news started on Sunday afternoon when three-star athlete [autotag]Brayson Hubbard[/autotag] announced his commitment to Alabama. If that wasn’t enough good news for Tide fans, later Sunday evening, five-star defensive back Tony Mitchell also made his verbal pledge to the Crimson Tide.

Hubbard is a talented prospect who plays quarterback for his high school team but will most likely transition to the defensive side of the ball in college and play safety.

Mitchell is an all-world safety prospect who just a couple of weeks ago was receiving a lot of buzz in favor of SEC rival Texas A&M. It appears as if coach Saban and the rest of the staff in Tuscaloosa showed everything they needed to in order to secure Mitchell’s commitment.

Both announcements were made on Twitter.

Let’s take a look at a few other stories that Alabama fans need to be following this morning.

What the Oklahoma Sooners are getting in 2023 WR commit Ashton Cozart?

What type of player are the Oklahoma Sooners getting with the commitment of 2023 four-star wide receiver Ashton Cozart?

The Sooners continued their positive momentum on the recruiting trail with another commitment this week. The 2022 class is done with just two prospects remaining on the Sooners’ radar for that class. Every other player has signed or is enrolled.

The focus is now on the 2023 class and in recent weeks it’s started to see some action. 2023 wide receiver Ashton Cozart becomes the latest commit to the Crimson & Cream.

He announced his decision Friday night and becomes the lone wide receiver commit in the class following the decommitment of Top 50 wide receiver DeAndre Moore Jr. Cozart is from Flower Mound, Texas and was being recruited heavily by TCU, Alabama, and Texas.

With him on board, let’s take a look at how he fits what the Sooners would like to do offensively.

Cozart is a taller receiver listed at 6-foot-3. His film shows a receiver that looks almost exclusively like an outside receiver option. He does an excellent job getting vertical and facing defensive backs out of their backpedal. He has long strides and track speed (ran a 10.74 100M dash as a high school sophomore).

Cozart tracks the ball well and looks very comfortable on vertical routes. His high school tape doesn’t show him being used on intermediate routes often but in due time and with more repetitions it’s easy to see him becoming more comfortable in that area.

Mozart shines with the ball in his hands. He displays an ability to make people miss after the catch. For a guy with his speed, being able to make people miss with create more opportunities for big plays.

All in all, Cozart is an excellent four-star receiver prospect for the Sooners. He adds size and elite speed at wide receiver and will continue to develop his whole route tree. His high school’s offense doesn’t feed him the ball but he was highly productive on just 36 catches and scored 11 touchdowns.

A team can never have too much size and speed and it’s not impossible to think Cozart develops into a starter-level receiver for the Oklahoma Sooners in his time at Norman.

Recruiting roundup: Checking out the 2022 recruiting class and other notes

Where do the Oklahoma Sooners stand with certain players in the 2022 recruiting class?

The Oklahoma Sooners are riding a lot of momentum as the calendar has flipped to November. They are undefeated, ranked in the top eight of every major ranking, and can currently boast a top 10 recruiting class.

While the on-field product has been good and still has the potential to be great this season, great programs don’t just neglect the other part of the team. Recruiting is the lifeblood of college sports. Especially college football despite what Florida head coach Dan Mullen might suggest.

It’s a 365 days a year job and it never stops.

Despite some hiccups, the Sooners are closing in on another top 10 class for the 2022 recruiting cycle. We would seriously be talking about a top 3 class had they not lost a top 10 national recruit in Luther Burden earlier this year. They also lost Jordan Hudson and Talyn Shettron as well.

However, the Sooners picked up the slack in terms of sheer star power and talent by their October run landing two of this senior’s class best talents in Gabriel Brownlow Dindy and Gentry Williams according to the USA Today Sports High School Composite Player Rankings.

With an early signing day of December 15th, the Oklahoma Sooners can put pen to paper and close the deal for good by having many guys sign and send in their National Letters of Intent.

As it currently stands, Oklahoma’s well on its way to locking down their 2022 class as no one currently looks like a surprise flip to somewhere else at the moment with a month to go.

However, there are a few recruits who could still jump on board namely guys like Jovontae Barnes, Hero Kanu, Marvin Jones Jr., Azareyeh Thomas, and Chris McClellan.

Jovontae Barnes, a running back from Las Vegas is set to visit Oklahoma for the Iowa State game. He plans to silently commit and announce his decision at one of the winter All-Star games in January. The Sooners are in an excellent spot here if you’ve followed our coverage over the months.

Hero Kanu, a defensive lineman originally from Germany, but playing football in California, is another huge possibility for the Sooners here. Judging things right now, this seems like it may be down to Oklahoma and Ohio State, which may be a theme for Oklahoma over the next few months on the recruiting trail.

Marvin Jones Jr. plays with 2023 Sooners commit Brandon Inniss. The chance is there for them to play in college as well. Jamar Cain is on the prowl and is positioning Oklahoma to be right in the thick of it over the coming months in a battle with Alabama and Florida State for the highly talented edge rusher.

Azareyeh Thomas popped onto the scene after a visit a few weeks ago and Oklahoma is trending well enough to have garnered multiple crystal ball predictions on 247’s site. Thomas is listed as an athlete but looks to be playing safety if he plays for the Sooners.

Most, if not all of these guys will be names to monitor in the coming months as letters of intent begin to get signed and as players end their high school seasons, allowing them to focus solely on their recruiting journeys as their senior football seasons come to an end.

5-star 2023 LB Jaiden Ausberry names Alabama in top 10

Could Alabama land the 2023 5-Star LB?

The 2023 class is about to enter its junior year of high school, so college is still some time away for the young kids who have likely not even taken the SAT or ACT yet. However, Jaiden Ausberry has already narrowed down his potential destinations to 10.

Ausberry is a five-star linebacker out of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and his top 10 recriting list looks like it could also be the AP poll’s top 10.

Along with Alabama is LSU, Ohio State, Texas A&M, USC, Florida, Michigan, Texas, Georgia and Notre Dame.

Alabama is currently unranked for the 2023 recruiting cycle. So, adding Ausberry would be a huge get for the Crimson Tide. He has not yet set a commitment date.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow Ausberry and the Alabama recruiting trail.
